This place is located in the Crowne Plaza near SFO. My friend and I got breakfast included with our overnight stay. We went down and was seated pretty quickly but then everything went downhill after that. We put our order in but the server didn't inquire if I needed a drink since my friend ordered coffee and me nothing. I did try later to see if he can fill up my glass with some water but ignored me. None of the servers were very attentive and didn't care about their job. When our breakfast came it was bland and the portions were small. Breakfast potatoes were baked and had diced raw onions and peppers as an afterthought. The eggs were okay and the bacon was probably the saddest looking thing on the plate. The food was very delicious! I had the fettuccine Alfredo and it was so good! It was pretty cold in there and the service was not good. The Asian man who was serving us was a little rude. He stepped on my foot and I made a joke as if it hurt really bad and laughed it off and he didn't say sorry or anything to me. Only gave us one refill and that was it. I had a very serviceable burger from this hotel restaurant. The servers were proficient. The prices reasonable considering where it is located. Downsides: atmosphere was pretty noisy with games in televisions all around the room (this is, of course, an upside if you are really into watching sports on TV while eating.). Good Things: -The steak was cooked well. -After seating, service was good. -Restaurant was clean and pretty, bad a nice ambiance. Bad Things: -No hostess or worker in site for the first 20 minutes. I stood outside the restaurant to be seated for a while. I had to question a passing hotel worker if the restaurant was even open right now. -The side dishes were pretty undercooked and the mash potatoes had chunks of really hard potatoes pieces in it. It also tasted like soap, lol. -Everything DESPERATELY needed seasoning, especially salt and pepper. The steak was so under seasoned and the vegetables had blacks flecks which I assumed was pepper but added no flavor. I actually paid for this meal with some food vouchers so I only had to pay a portion of what the vouchers didn't cover. It was the best of times it was the worse of times here in Burlingame California. While we started our vacation on a good note we ended stranded on a bad note. After having a nice Korean meal down the stripe of Burlingame's little downtown area, we got to settle in for a night cap at the West Bay Restaurant bar. It was late into the evening with just a few customers watching the Giant's baseball game. We got seated right away at the booth and ordered two desserts and two drinks. My husband got a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and I got a Vodka Fresh. It was one of those nights where some sweet treats and a vodka fresh was going to make the night feel calmer and better. I had their pear tartlet and my husband had their lemon sorbet it was refreshing and mine was sweet and a little rich with the tart shell being very much like pastry crust. It was good can't complain. Our server was I believe also the host he was nice and took our order when we were ready and gave us our check when we were done. Not the finest Crowne Plaza/IHG restaurant I've experience. First, my serve was exceptional - Min. The bartender. He was funny, polite, efficient, attentive, hardworking and the type of bartender anyone should be proud of to have manning the bar. I was totally stoked about the $10 Chandon half bottles - so stoked I had two. I also had a glass of rather mass produced white wine - well the entire list is. Made me laugh seeing a sign that stated "local wine" - as a wine writer I was like ........ whatever. Most of it was corporate stuff that you can find anywhere.... nothing localvore, but indeed, it's made from grapes in the Bay Area, so no false advertising, just crappy wine. I ate total junk food. Happy hour (which I think lasted until 8 PM) potato skins which were fine (how can you screw those up?) and then I ordered chicken tenders and fries from the kids menu. Tenders were good, normal frozen and fried. The fries, sucked. However, Min was great. I went to leave after 4 hours of being there, working on my laptop, and I felt bad leaving and not saying goodbye to him, but, he had stepped away from the bar for a moment. I am staying here in the hotel and I decided to ordered room service! I ordered a chicken Caesar salad! Jess took my order she offered free bread rolls! When I declined a drink she made it a point to ask if I'd like a water and personally brought it to me! This was the best customer service I've gotten from a hotel! It got here in less than 25 min! This is a hotel restaurant, so the prices are a bit higher (I assume) than if it were not. Other than that caveat, I highly recommend this place. My wife and I ate here tonight; she had the veggie burger, with fries; I had a pork chop, one of the specials, with grilled vegetables. Both dishes were excellent, including the fries, of which I ate quite few. The waiter gets bonus points for warning us that the pork chop is thick and takes longer to prepare, and that we probably didn't want an appetizer, given the quantity of food in the entrees (neither of us finished, even though the food was excellent). I had two glasses of the Belle Glos pinot noir ($11; $45 for a bottle), and my wife had two glasses of the house Chardonnay ($6 from 4 to 7 p.m.); very reasonably priced for the quality. When we checked into the hotel, the front desk person said that the restaurant had a new menu. I don't know if that came with a new chef or not. In any case, we're glad that we took a chance despite the low ratings in the past; this is certainly a convenient place to eat if you're staying here. read more

We stayed at the hotel about a week ago. We wanted breakfast before we went to the airport so we went downstairs to eat. There were about six of us outside waiting for the restaurant to open. It was supposed to already be open at 6am but it wasn't. I went to the front desk clerk and asked what time they would be open and he appeared shocked that it wasn't. I walked back and someone appeared and started seating people. We decided to go with the buffet but when we went to fill our plates nothing was fresh so we sat back down and decided to order from the menu. It took quite a while to get our omelettes and pancakes. The omelets were just ok. They didn't have much inside of them and the pancakes were odd not at all fluffy just kind of rubbery. The coffee was good. Service was not great. I might try it here again if I am staying at the hotel. I am not sure what happened that day but it wasn't good. read more

I love coming to the Bay and pretending I don't know where to find good food. I can be such a tourist! West Bay Cafe was my most recent find. They're located at the renovated Crowne Plaza Hotel near SFO. They serve American food, they're open late, and have a fully stocked bar. I found the staff to be very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is segmented with an area for the bar (situated right in front of 2 huge TVs), there's an area sectioned off for large group gatherings (which I believe they use for Corporate events, parties, or overflow), and then general seating surrounding the main entrance. It's spacious and modern and I believe it's one of the better hotel restaurants near SFO. read more

It's not just being horribly over prices that earns a one, which would be a zero if that was possible, nor is it presentation so poorly done that it makes prison cafeteria presentation look like world class artistry. What set me to advising this place should be avoided is their pure dishonesty. I ordered their Crème brûlée, what I received instead was vanilla pudding dumped into a ramekin given a caramelized top with strawberry's dumped on top in the hopes of distracting one from the fact they got plain everyday jello pudding. The only saving grace is the fact that a short walk over a pedestrian bridge puts you in Burlingame which has a plethora of excellent fairly priced restaurants. Trying to get a table for lunch between breakfast and lunch setup is really annoying. First off, I see several servers walking around and no comes to direct me to seating. There is a sign that says, "wait to be seated" but there is ABSOLUTELY NO ONE AVAILABLE. WHAT KIND OF SENSE DOES THAT MAKE!!! So, I took it upon myself to walk into the restaurant and say to someone walking, "CAN WE SIT ANYWHERE OR JUST STAND AT THE COUNTER AND CONTINUE TO WAIT ON ONE OF YOUR CREW MEMBERS TO ASSIST ME BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A LONG WHILE". It was after delivering that very loud statement that the workers became very attentive and less oblivious to the waiting guests. Once seated I was able to order my food. The vibe was just uninviting here but the BIG TV was cool. The food was alright. The burger lead to me dropping a big deuce about an hour ago which is good because I stay regular like that. Anyway, the whole idea of getting food from here was very exciting initially and then regretful afterwards. I guess it depends on what day and time that you decided to stop by. Went to this place twice in 24 hours because I was staying at the Crowne Plaza hotel that hosts this restaurant. The ambiance is relatively nice with booth seating and a huge screen TV. The evening service was nice. The waiters were attentive and were very prompt in water and soda refills. However, the food was disappointing. I ordered a $16 falafel with a side of salad. The presentation was decent but the actual taste was probably the worst falafel I've had. The falafel balls were extremely dry and tasted old and stale, and the salad was also not very fresh. My boyfriend ordered a burger with fries and surprisingly, seemed to enjoy his dish. so if I were to recommend your next order, stay away from the more obscure dishes and stick to the safer options like a burger, sliders, or their chicken wings. read more

She offered to and did bring items that they did not have on the buffet today from the kitchen at no added cost. Toni is a rock star! Says she works for a staffing company. I asked for a Rickey with gin, told the bartender how to make it and the price was $15...$2-$5 more than any drink on the menu even though they didn't use top shelf. The drink was tasty but I can get the same drink for at least $3-$5 cheaper at the Hyatt. The bartender was awesome and took the calamari off the bill. He was attentive. I have had dinner at this restaurant numerous time, as well as had the breakfast buffet during two long term stays at the hotel (totaling 12 days). The food is good (esp. dinner menu) but what is most excellent is the staff. I wanted to give a special shout out to Fernando, who was the server assigned to my section when I came for dinner. He was personable, efficient, and consistently ensuring I was satisfied with my meal and took time to attend to my needs (e.g., refilling drinks). He made great recommendations when I had questions on the menu, and paid attention to detail. Keep up the excellent service, Fernando. I also wanted to commend the great service of Luis and Elva, who work during breakfast at west bay restaurant at the hotel. Also the front desk manager of the hotel is professional and personable. I am giving 5 stars for service, but only 4 for food as I would like to see more variety in the food offerings during the breakfast buffet. read more

I realize the restaurant is in a hotel so will come at a premium price but, after spending $17 for a basic salad And $11 on one draft beer I was asked to pay extra For a tiny cup of vinaigrette salad dressing. When you are overpaying to begin with it is painful to be gouged for ridiculously simple things. I was really glad this hotel restaurant had several gluten free options and the food was quite good. But it took a very long time to get our order. When we sat down, there weren't many other tables in use. We ordered, got our drinks pretty quickly, but then just waited and waited for over an hour. Eventually, the waiter had an excuse that somehow the kitchen messed up our order and I just found that sort of unprofessional. As a former server, I know that the best thing to do is apologize, offer to make it up somehow (comp something, free dessert) but don't throw the kitchen under the bus. I noticed that the tables around us (which got their food well before we did despite being seated after us) also had complaints. Seems like they need to better train their waitstaff. There were plenty of people working and it was not busy, so really no reason to have to wait over an hour for a burger and a piece of chicken. read more

Food poisoning and terrible service. Looked pretty greasy but I was stuck here overnight for a flight, it was late, and I had no way to get anyplace else. I asked for a beer in a bottle. Waitress brought it over after pouring 3/4 of it in a glass. She dropped it on my table without me even able to explain I wanted the beer FROM the bottle. She came back and asked if something was wrong with the beer as I did not touch the glass and only drank the 1/4 left in the bottle. I said to her that the reason I ordered the bottle was to drink from a BOTTLE. She brought another bottle, took away the full glass, and charged me for both. Very expensive beer. Hopefully the food would be better. Nope. First few bites of the Steak sandwich was ok, then it tasted rancid. I did not eat more than 1/4 of it. Ceaser salad looked ok, but dressing was odd. Next morning I almost missed my flight as I was so sick. I left her a tip as she has to work here, but the place needs some serious help. Chicken way over cooked and I ordered balsamic dressing and bleu cheese was served. Whatever.. I was able to eat 1/3 of my salad because it took Over an hour to get, I had to take the rest to go including the fork and ceramic ramekin of dressing. That'll teach them.. lol read more
