I am an animal lover who has had small dogs and exotic animals all of my life. I have a 7 yr old female Chihuahua who had one eye that did not blink along with one side of her mouth (dewlap ) hanging. She was lethargic and seemed very ill. I saw West Boca Animal Hospital online and made an appointment to see Dr. Kuehnel. I walked into the room with 2 techs and eventually the doctor. I told the doctor about my dog's eye of which he replied, "I don't see anything wrong with her eye". I actually told him to pull her bottom lid down to show him how cherry red it was. He then said, oh I see it. Then we spoke and he said, looks like partial facial paralysis. I looked at the symptoms online so I knew that seemed right. I also asked if he could check the pressure that eye for glaucoma since it appeared she was blind. He did and said it is from the paralysis. He asked about anything else I said actually I would like adult blood tests and i was done. I asked him to do a liver enzyme and CBC on her. He never suggested any blood work. I asked for adult blood work . Which he did. I had told him that my animal was raised all natural and I do not give her drugs unless necessary. He told me he could give me an antihistamine for her head. I said you mean like a Benadryl. He gave me a bottle of pills. They drew blood and I paid $400. He said he would call me tomoroow with the results. That evening my dog was so I'll I thought she would need a hospital. The next day no phone call. I called in the afternoon for the results. I was told Dr. Kuehnel was off and a tech would call me back. I got a voicemail from the tech to call her. I called back she was in a meeting. I asked the receptionist if the blood work was okay. She said, everything is negative. I asked for her to email me the results she said the tech will call me back. The tech called and said, calcium and phosphorus was high. I asked her to email me the report. Actually when I looked at the report, protein was out of range high and lymphocytes were high. When I was there the doctor suggests an antihistamine for her head. I said you mean like Benadryl? Instead I was what I was given was an antinflamatory not an antihystamine (Rimadyl). I asked if Dr. Kuehnel could call me because now i was really upset since my animal was so ill and her tests were off. I told her I'm returning this drug it was not something discussed with the other doctor and in would never give my dog this drug. Rimadyl is for hip dysplasia and after surgery for pain. Internet states. Not given for facial paralysis. She said, we don't takeback drugs. Price $30. I asked to have the doctor call me . Another night with no sleep. Some hours in the day my dog seemed okay. Then out of no where she would fall I'll. I get a call Friday 8am from Dr. Simon. I was woken out of my sleep. I told her my dog was I'll. She replied, I'm just calling to go over the blood tests no discuss the dog since I never met you. I said, please have Dr Kuehnel call me. Saturday comes, no call. I called after 2pm and asked to speak to Dr Kuehnel. She said I'll him call you. He called me back and started yelling at me how he's entitled to have 2 days off and surely I don't expect him to call me on his days off. I started to talk as I was in shock. He went on how I like to talk a lot. I stopped him and said, I haven't been able to say a work. He continued to be so out of line and nasty. I could take it so I said. I think you are so unprofessional and I'm done. Never asked about my dog. Was an experience that in my 60 yrs on this planet and owning dogs, iguanas, rabbits ,monies, and a cat, I've never had and hope to never go through again. As I'm writing this review, the phone rings and it's Dr Kuehnel trying to apologize. I said, you know you need to have compassion as a vet and be symphathetic when someone's animal is ill. He tried to undo what he did. He started to tell me to go to another doctor if which I replied , I intend to. I added, you called me so I don't write a review about you. That's the reason. I said, I going to wish you well but I'm hanging up. He continued and I hung up. This was a nightmare. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Seek a different vet hospital if you expect compassion and find a doctor who will actually care. read more

Took my ailing dog to this place, had dr. Kuehnel check him out. I was told the pet needed a battery of tests to avoid going the hospital. Upon agreeing and paying the hefty fee, I was casually informed by dr. Kuehnel that he had no idea what was wrong with the animal and that I needed to go the hospital anyway. So, after spending a lot of time and money, I found myself back at square one. As a general impression, the vet came across as a disingenuous and primarily financially motivated businessman; I will not return there for all his waiting-room coffee. read more

West Boca Vet has been a complete game changer in my pet's lives. I currently have 4 cats and 1 dog, and they are all patients at this kind, and compassionate hospital. They are a 5 doctor practice and I simply cannot pick my favorite since every one I have experienced is fantastic in their craft and knowledge of Veterinary Medicine. They took care of my eldest cat of 15 years after he was discharged from Coral Springs Animal Hospital for a quarter of the cost! The nurses even texted me updates while the practice was CLOSED during a holiday to let me know of his status and that he had been fed and watered in the morning and the evening. That meant SO much to me! I often board my other cats here when I go out of town, and the Kennel Technicians never fail to send me photos of my babies enjoying themselves and soaking up the sun in their very own kitty condo. I have also had the opportunity to meet the practice manager, Katie, and the assistant practice manager, Mollie, who have been behind the scenes running the place for the last year and a half or so. I am beyond impressed with these two ladies and the manner in which they conducted this hospital's business during the first initial COVID outbreak. It was a tricky time, but you ladies nailed it in patient care, professionalism, and keeping everyone safe and socially distanced! I cannot say enough great things about this place. The technicians are always pleasant and gentle, and the front desk always makes you feel as if you just called Disney World with their phone etiquette! This place is fantastic. I took my Yorkie named Friday there this past Monday for a dental cleaning with extractions. We were warmly greeted by Dr. Selter himself who was a real sweetheart with everything. The place was immaculate & the service was perfection plus. I am so pleased that he took the time to speak with me & warm up to my dog. My dog had 10 extractions & was jumping around later on the same evening. As I was falling apart, the vet and staff took care of my children as we waited on husband to say goodbye to out first child. My son, who is autistic was running around and they handled it in stride. I moved to Boca 2 years ago and during that time I have been to 3 different vets. I am so happy to have found West Boca Veterinary Center (WBVC) as both of my previous vet center experiences were unfavorable. My dog had eaten something that could have ended up causing major problems if the offending item hadn't been retrieved. After trying unsuccessfully to get my dog to throw it up, I took her to WBVC. Given my past 2 experiences at the other vets, I was anticipating first being met with incompetency and apathy on the part of the staff and then being told by the vet that it would require a vast sum of money for the procedure. My experience at WBVC was the antithesis of that. I arrived at their facility very stressed and the staff was welcoming, prompt and understanding. Their facility was also very clean. My dog was seen very quickly and the situation was accessed appropriatelly and in a step-wise fashion. I'm very thankful that the quick actions on the part of WBVC resulted in getting my dog to vomit the item up and their bill was very reasonable. The next day, they called and followed up to see how my dog was doing. I also later received a letter in the mail, thanking me for using their facility and welcoming me to return in the future. WBVC has earned my future patronage for both my dogs and I am happy to have finally located a reasonable, professional, and extremely welcoming veterinary center. I realize I have only had 1 visit there but based upon that, I would highly recommend them to others. read more

They were very wonderful with our cat. We just moved him and my son here to Boca with us from NJ. Our cat was sneezing & not eating. They fit me in the same day! I am so grateful to all the yelpers for their great reviews. The office treated our Josh very well. And unfortunately he did scratch the doctor, as he is very afraid of vets since he had an amputation a few years ago, but the vet was OK with it. Overall, they just were really sweet. I actually called to make the appointment, but it was my son and husband who took the cat. When they got back home with the cat they actually thanked me for sending them there. Dr. Kuehnel is a great vet and the staff is wonderful as well! We also groom our 11 year old Yorkie here and the groomer is top notch! When my Yorkie recently started having seizures, Dr. Kuehnel and his team were flexible, understanding, responsive, and were able to helped us figure out what the best course of action was in order to deal with the seizures and make sure my dog was as healthy and comfortable as possible. My dogs have been with the head vet for 4 years. Nice enough guy but never there. This guy is NEVER around. I can't say enough bad things about the staff. Truly challenged in every way. I can tell you one and all: STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET GROUP. They will rob you blind and don't know squat about dogs. What he does best is cruise. Do yourself a favor and find another group. I have a puppy that had nonstop diarreah for 2 months. Kuehnell kept charging and charging for test after test and then put the dog on a diet that made her even worse. Then he left town for a week on a, you guessed, CRUISE.The staff does everything they can to run interference and the order of the day is "BE AS RUDE AND ACCUSATORY AS POSSIBLE".The staff couldn't be worse but the orders come from the top. The place is a joke. After thousands of dollars we took our dog to a neighborborhood vet who fixed her in one 26 buck visit. The doctors at WBVC were clueless. This place has nothing but zero stars from me but I had to do use 1. We also painfully put down a dog at their suggestion but in retrospect our animal didn't need to die. The CRUISING doctor wasn't even there. The staff didn't want to accept a specimen because they didn't know how or what to charge.Money is the bottom line. Not your pet read more

After posting my review, even with the vet being off for the day called me within minutes asking what happened and genuinely wanted to get to the bottom of the situation and at the very least offer recommendations for other vets. I had already made arrangements with another vet and everything turned out ok. Several days later West Boca called on a status of my dog. There are times when you can tell there was an obvious laps in customer service and the initial response sometimes fueled by emotion will last. By far the best vet experience I've had in the past 3 months. I've taken my new pup to 3 different vets since getting her as I haven't really felt a true/safe connection to any of the other vets, staff, or offices in general. All of that changed today, when we were greeted by Carla at the front desk with the biggest smile! She was super sweet to our chocolate lab pup which made her super comfortable (most importantly), and was incredible nice to us on our first visit into the office. We were promptly shown to the exam room, where we were then greeted by Katrina. Katrina took her time with us and really made our pup feel special as well. A big thanks to her for all of her time. The doctor was awesome as well. Quiet spoken, caring, and did the most thorough exam we had received thus far! Small practice with caring good service. A real person answers the phone. Dr. Kuehnel takes his time and answers all questions. As Jason G. wrote, I went to Clintmoore Animal Hospital for years and although Dr. Butzer is a fabulous vet, it was not possible to see him most of the time. I rarely saw the same vet twice. Also, prices had gone way up. I have only good things to say about West Boca Veterinary Center and I am glad that I made the switch. The only concern I have is that they are not open as many hours as Clintmoore, and should I have an emergency I would need to take my animals back there. Jane K. read more
