After some research, I was interested in one of several pistols, and they stock them all--they have a pretty good range of handguns. The sales staff has been very knowledgeable and helpful. It is great to have the shooting range in the same building, so you can try before you buy (with range membership). They are not a full service armory but can provide some services. Another gun shop review. Sign of the times I guess. We all need to worry about our safety. This review is specific to the Handgun 101 class they offer. It is excellent. Our class had young couples to senior citizens in it. I have been using a gun at the range over the last two years, but had relied on good support from a friend who lives across the county and careful vetting of ideas you can find online. I am happy to say I think I have been a very safe gun owner. But I still learned a couple of new policies that l will adopt from this class. Also I learned some improved grip and mechnical techniques that will impove my skills. The class I was in, was taught by the owner. Ex-military and Counter Intelligence etc. Also trained in field medicine. But clearly someone who has the skills to teach. This is a man who clearly has seen the the truth about guns. He doesn't play down the danger a gun has and why you never assume its unloaded, but respectully teaches the students, many there because they are considering a first gun, not only to ALWAYS treat the gun care and and to be always aware of what is around you. Then they teach with hands on many types of guns how to hold, how to use, and finally when the range is closed the class is taken down to learn how to fire a gun properly. There were several aids helping with the hands on sections. So we each got some great personal attention. When I bought my first gun, all the classes I could find were booked out weeks, and odds are something will happen to make that happen again. If you have never taken a class as a recent gun owner or as somone who is even thinking about adding a gun for personal protection. This class is a good place to start. The range also is good in that it has exceptional air filtering and policies to keep people safe and its very inexpensive to use the range, and rent guns to try after you have learn some basic. Yeah My membership expired, yeah I haven't been there for over a year, but that's not a reason to assume that I don't know anything about gun safety. I've had my membership for the better part of a year and I think I've shot here enough to write a review. It's the closest indoor range to where I live in shoreline so it's not too far away which is nice. The lanes at the range are honestly pretty crappy. They're really small and barely have enough counter space to operate more then 2 firearms at a time. The rifle range and pistol range are both only 25 yards which is not a huge deal but it would be nice to have a 50 yard rifle range. If you plan to shoot here, call ahead to see if they are busy first. When they get busy to the point of having a wait list, it's not a good experience. The amount of people that get crammed into each range makes it kinda hectic and not very enjoyable. The range staff are nice, and the range master seems to be a good guy. I was having an issue with my AR and he took the time to fix it for me on the spot and even offered to let me use his personal lower reciever to use while he was fixing mine. They're happy to answer all your questions and are polite. If you're looking to buy a new gun, gear, parts or ammo here you are going to be surprised on how expensive the pro shop is. Most of the stuff they have is marked up a lot, which is understandable, but I wouldn't recommend buying your ammo there, it's expensive. (About 15-25% more than Lynnwood Gun which is near by). The AR15 parts are also marked wayyyyy up. read more

Overall a very clean and well run range. Range fees and ammo prices are fair. Check in process is digital and fast. They don't treat you like a criminal. Not an 'old boys club' (anybody who has been to any range ever knows what this is). Not intimidating for novice shooters and not annoying or restrictive for experienced shooters. I'd really like to give West Coast Armory North a 5-star review, but after reading the review below that was left by Trista H. and having a different experience, I'd like to offer an alternate perspective of John and Martha's training program. The classroom portion of the training was good for beginners, particularly the portion where students practiced with the orange dummy guns. John, the range owner, is a good trainer, though he spent some time to impress upon the class how much experience he's had training secret government agencies and special forces (i.e., Delta Force, FBI special response unit, "DOD covert operation agencies without names," etc..) It's possible, but doubtful. John is an outstanding shot, and doubtless knows his stuff, but his seemingly self-aggrandizing introduction concerned me a bit (over-confidence can be a very bad thing.) John's wife, Martha, is very nice and I have no doubt that she is a competent shooter. She does, however, tend to lean in without warning during live-fire exercises to correct students, and that has the potential to be dangerously distracting for new shooters. At this point, I'd like to cover a major concern about a recent incident that happened during an intermediate handgun safety class I took at West Coast Armory North. Having taken classes from other organizations, including the NRA and Insights, one of the things that all instructors have made a point of emphasizing early on is not to overreact if a hot spent casing goes down your shirt. Hot brass from another shooter's pistol went down another shooter's shirt shortly after the live fire training began and that shooter kept his muzzle pointed downrange and put the gun down before pulling out the hot brass. This would have been a good time for John to emphasize the importance of not overreacting to hot brass while holding a loaded weapon. He did not do this. A few minutes later, the same thing happened to a woman who was taking the class and she flipped out, waving the gun around at everyone in the class with her finger on the trigger while desperately reaching down her shirt with her free hand. Frankly, it was an "oh shit" moment for everyone in the room. John managed to pull the weapon to the ground and out of her hand within 10 seconds, and thankfully, no one was hurt. That stated, it could have turned out very different. After this happened, John stopped the class to discuss what to do if you were hit with hot ejected casings. The woman, who had left the room for several minutes after lashing out at Martha, was allowed to continue the class despite breaking every one of the four safety rules that John had pounded into our heads earlier in the class. I did not feel safe around the woman, since she showed no common sense or self control. Still, she was allowed to continue shooting alongside a dozen other mostly beginning shooters in an open room with no protective barriers. Frankly, I was amazed that she was allowed to continue participating in the shooting portion of the class, since her nerves were so frayed after her flip-out. At the end of the class, John announced that her gun was out of ammo and all was well, but... well, who knows? There were a lot of "what ifs" that could have gone down with her in the room. There should be a policy that if you break one of the four rules, you get a warning, break two and you have to stop shooting while Martha re-instructs you on the four rules. Break all four and the class should be halted and the person should be required to leave the range for the remainder of the class. This class was intended for people who had some familiarity with handguns, yet this woman clearly needed remedial, basic training and should not have been allowed to continue shooting in a wide-open crowded room. That being said, most of the class was very useful, but the few very avoidable mistakes that happened that evening could have resulted in a much more tragic outcome. I hope John makes a concerted point of explaining hot brass from this point forward in all of his safety courses. Better still, he should limit the number of students on 100-level courses to six per class, since having a dozen people in the room, with six behind the firing line without any form of protection, was a clear risk in this situation. read more

Been a member for a few months, started with the Bronze membership (only one available) and switched to the Silver as soon as it was offered. I use the range a few times a week and the staff has been great. I've seen steady improvements to the range. The store is great as well. They have ammo at fair prices and an expanding line of accessories and firearms. I would highly recommend WCA (north) to any new or experienced shooter. read more

So I'm going to begin this review by admitting to being ignorant of the fact that West Coast Armory North is not affiliated with the West Coast Armory locations in Bellevue/Issaquah. My wife and I joined the range in Bellevue just over a month ago, but hadn't had a chance to go back since then. Since we actually happened to have the same day off, which can be rare due to our respective occupations (nurse/law enforcement officer), we thought it would be nice to head out to the range to rent a few guns for her to try out. She recalled having seen a West Coast Armory location on Airport Road, so we decided to head out there and check it out. My wife was very pleased to see advertisements for the Northwest Women's Shooting Network and she picked up a flyer regarding it. Upon being greeted at the counter by an employee, I asked if there was a way to look up/verify our memberships in order for her to obtain a rental and some range time. This is when our disappointing experience began. The employee flatly stated that the Everett and Bellevue/Issaquah locations had different owners and were not affiliated with each other. I considered that this might have been the seventh time he had to explain that fact today and shrugged it off. Thinking that this location might be more convenient, we then asked about the cost of a membership. The employee stepped away and returned with a membership flyer, with no further explanation about what this location offers. When I asked if they offered a law enforcement discount, the response was a flat "yes" and nothing else. He didn't mention what the discount was or even politely ask who I work for, which is inconsistent with previous experiences during my 17 years of law enforcement service. My wife and I glanced at each other, thanked the employee, and left. About seven steps into the parking lot, my wife turned to me and asked "What the hell just happened?" I replied, "What happened is that we're definitely going to keep driving to Bellevue." read more

First time gun owner, and I was treated with the best customer service as possible. They made sure I was making the right decision for me, made sure it fit my hand okay, even before I purchased my first gun from them they recommended I rent a couple of their guns to shoot in the range and it was a great idea, I really got a feel for the different types of weapons! Also they offer a free military membership! Their prices are also very good compared to places like cabelas and such. Overal I will be a member for life!! I have been a member here for about six months now. Service is generally excellent on the range, except when it gets really busy. Never had to wait for a lane yet, but I have been there on a weekend when only a few lanes were available. The range safety officers are knowledgeable and will definitely be right there if you do anything unsafe. Excellent selection of firearms and gear in the store. Prices are mostly at or slightly below MSRP for most items, pretty much in line with competing stores in the area. Glad that I have my membership and will be renewing it when the time comes. read more

I use to go to Sam's because it was convenient. You sort of endured the dark atmosphere, surly employees and overall not so good feeling. When I heard WCA was opening in Sam's old space I thought I'd give it a try. Talk about far exceeding my expectations. Light, airy atmosphere with first class ranges. Great ventilation and very friendly, helpful staff. I joined, got my brother to join, and am telling friends if they want a first class shooting facility they need look no further. I'll be taking my wife there when they offer their introduction to firearms class. They're starting to fill in their inventory in the gun shop, and the ammo they offer is fairly priced. This a well stocked gun store for hand guns; overall not as big a store as other stores (yet) but they are growing day by day since taking over from when it was Sam's store. There are some long guns in this store also. Guns are mostly new, not much in the way of used guns yet. Like other stores they will order non-stock items. The store staff are knowledgeable and very friendly. Gun prices are comparable to other stores. Ammo can often be found here when other stores are sold out. There is a gun smith in a separate corner of the building not associated with the gun range and store, I am told he does good work. The range is growing in the number of bays available, the third bay is new and open but used only on an 'as-needed' basis. The existing lanes, one for for pistol and 22 rifles, the second for other rifles, have been cleaned up and the ventilation equipment filters cleaned so the air flow is good. The range staff are friendly and knowledgeable, there is a very good selection of rental hand guns available, most near new since they were purchased a short while ago to stock the gun range rental counter. Like all ranges if you rent you have to buy their ammo, but you can use your own ammo in your personal guns. They do not allow the use of some ammunition, anything over 7.62 x 39 rifle ammo is taboo. Check with them on restrictions on pistol ammo. Some folks don't like being watched like a hawk for range safety violations, but I have been 'barrel' swept while in there, so I believe they are right to watch the gunners and come straight in to correct inapproriate and unsafe behavior - that teaches newbies and the poorly trained to use safe handling techniques and helps prevent accidents. I don't mind a bit. My thanks to them! They are all nice people if you engage them in conversation, and they have a responsible job to do. There are older and younger employees, male and female, it is a user friendly place in my view and a good place for old hands as well as newcomers who want to learn to shoot safely and responsibly and have fun at the same time, or merely ask questions and learn. I live close and I'm very happy they are providing such a good service in this area. read more

OMG I DIDN'T FREEZE!!!! YAY!!! So when it was Sam's I froze in there, the staff was older (they never really bothered me though) & it was a lot darker/dingier. Came in with the husband to shoot the shotgun I bought him & the 9mm-place looked totally different. Staff was nice & helpful, it was clean & organized. Now onto the range-holy cow felt almost like a Spanish inquisition. I had to register (my husband has an annual membership & has been there quite often since they re-opened but I work graveyard & days off fall on Mondays so it was my first time back since its WCA now). Did all my questionnaire, picture, etc & then the guy starts asking my experience etc. I've shot multiple types of guns off/on since I was a kid-lately though I just can't get to the range that often. So yeah I'm rusty I tell him but I can hit my target ;). Let's just say they are very thorough in all the rules, etc (yeah I know not to point the gun at my neighboring lane). It definitely rubbed me the wrong way-like I'm not an idiot thanks, especially when they know my husband by name when he walks in. So get into our lane, load up the 9mm & I start shooting the first clip. Now being that I haven't shot it in probably a year I just start unloading, not worrying about my grouping, just getting the feel back. Make it through the first clip & there's the guy from Spanish inquisition-steps right in front of my husband, tells me to change my stance & grip a bit-ok I'm fine w/ critique's but dude, don't pre-empt my husband like that. Focusing more on my grouping now obviously since I feel like I was being watched, I start up again. I won't even get started on how "the little woman" was talked about as we were packing up to leave. It was just not a vibe I'm used to-maybe I liked the grumpy old men that treated me like I knew what I was doing (since I do & if I don't I ask). I don't know, maybe after I go a few times I'll feel better-I just felt like I was being talked to/about like I'm a moron (and the little woman vibe really irked me). read more

Went there to sight in my gun and try out some other guns they had for rent. The staff was ok at first. I returned one gun of theirs, the slid didn't stay open and was told to return it with mag out of it by the range safety guy. When I did the other counter guy was there. He proceeded to tell me that I was an unsafe shooter and that he wasn't going to give me another to rent. The range safety guy told him several times that I returned it as I was instructed too. The counter guy then looked at me and said I should have returned it with the mag in it...that's an unclear gun in my book and I did what I was instructed! Won't go back. Few other issues with that same counter guy...talked to manager about everything...he wasn't happy about the issues and took care of things...I'm just now uncomfortable there. Would have given one stars cause service sucked but manager was helpful so they get two stars. read more

I would've given West Coast a 5 star review except that I still have clear memories of the price gouging of the '13 gun craziness. BUT now that that ridiculousness is behind us, West Coast is a great spot with by far the best range around. It's clean, professional and safe and the customer service seems good. This isn't too much of a sportsman shop, by that I mean classy guns like a pre-64 model 70's, single action revolvers, and hunting supplies are scarce. They don't really have anything for the hunting side of shooting (big game, varmint nor birds). Just about everything is tacti-cool, but given that handguns / AR's are what sell these days that makes sense and keeps the lights on. Ultimately, how they compare to the local competition is most important. I rank them against the competition as follows: 1. Range = A+, won't find a better spot locally (Kenmore has a TERRIBLE pistol range) and WCN lets you shoot .22LR rifles with a bronze which is great for silhouette practice. The range officers are friendly and helpful. 2. Prices = B+, i'd say the only shop that beats them is Low Price Guns in Bellevue (and Walmart). Lowpriceguns stayed sane with prices when no one else was which is why i have to give them the nod but still solid B+ to WCN for staying on par with Cabelas and company. Prices are decent but they aren't trying to be the best deal aroun. Having a range helps with that. 3. Selection: B, tactical centered, some nice Remington bolt actions, decent AR's, great selection of pistols and good variety for demo in the range. I'd like to see more used selections, didn't see much for upper only options for ARs, parts kits, etc. To be a big player in AR sales - options are king (see Rainier). Adventure Sports in Lynnwood has quite a bit more selection for cleaning supplies and the best reloading stock around, Ranier Arms beats them for AR selection, Cabelas (to be expected) on variety. The used selection at DJ's pawn in Bothell is the best around and Skagit Arms also offers more for long gun variety. read more

We went in on a Sunday to purchase a hand gun and I believe our salesperson was Robert. He was patient, extremely helpful, knowledgable and was a great communicator. I've shot at Sam's before and it was damn cold during the winter time. The guys at the WCA North range are pleasant, easy to work with and a damn sight friendlier than Sam's old fart. I'd give WCA North range 5 stars if they'd only install some new lighting above the shooting lane booths instead of keeping the old fluorescent lights BEHIND the shooter. I can't hardly see what I'm doing in the booth, much less be able to pick up my gun sights in that dark cubicle. Wades has a little light above the shooter which is all you really need to see your gun sights...if WCA's would install some better lighting and somehow extend one of their bays out to 30 yards, I'd be all in for an annual or lifetime membership to shoot my AR's or .22lr's. I've walked through the gun shop several times to get to or from the range, but not interested in buying anything at their prices or anyone else's for that matter. I've been a shooter and collector for 40 years, reload my own ammo and buy, sell and trade on my own terms. I don't have money burning in my pocket to buy the latest and greatest nor am I affected by any proposed gun ban scares. If you think WCA North or any of the other store's prices are high, then don't buy it there. Eventually like all supply and demand scenarios, prices and supplies will meet what the market will bear. If you're crying about spending $17 a box for 9mm then you evidently couldn't afford to stock up before 11/2012 when they were still selling for $180/1000 at WAC shows. Shooting has never been about getting the best bang for your buck, it's about enjoying what you're doing and making it a lifetime hobby. Guys who rushed out and paid $1500 for a standard Bushmaster AR-15 that sold for $750 before last winter are as much to blame for the crazy scalper prices as the store owners jacking the prices up. If you didn't need an assault rifle before the proposed ban, you certainly don't need it now burning a $1500 hole in your credit card account. WCA North gets my business at the range and if they're competitive for parts and firearms, they'll get mine there as well some day. read more

Plenty of lanes for shooting, well ventilated, and good selection of arms to rent or buy. The staff blamed us for shooting out a light bulb when in fact the bulb fell from the fixture and shattered on the floor between our shots. The made us pay for it even though it was not our doing. Careful going there. They may make you pay for clogging up the toilet. read more

This place is awesome, just professional enough that everyone is safe. The staff here is lacking the giant pointy stick that seems to be in the anus of most gun range employees. They never talk down to you if you ask a stupid question and they always welcome you in and holler goodbye when you walk out. Great prices on ammo and for like $20 you can swap out as many rental guns as you want. Overall this is my favorite range I've ever been to, I only wish it was outside but this is Washington so that wouldn't be very practical anyways. read more

The new staff is great and the range is clean!!!!! You no longer need to wear a sweater, down coat and long johns with winter gloves to shoot there, in other words they fixed the ventilation system in the range. Times have been tuff and they are getting some stock of ammo and firearms, I do not think this was there fault by any means it more came down to the opened gun store at a time when the crazyness was at its peak. There prices are very fair there is no gun store that can compete with online prices so be realistic, they have a roof and four walls that they have to pay to have people standing there whether you are in there or not. reading this it sounds like I work there, that could be further from the truth I just am happy to have a great gun store in Everett. I am sick of Discount Guns ( how can you charge those prices and have the word discount in your name?) Lastly there is the big box Cabalas. What can I say? You get a high volume store and customer service is the first thing to go out the window and they have proven it. So this is why I am happy to write a great review for Everett's one and only good gun store and range. read more

My wife and I just took the Handgun 101 course offered there, as we are newbies to all things handgun. I just bought my first revolver from them a week earlier (kind of putting the cart before the horse, I know), and she wants a semi-auto pistol, so the course seemed like a great idea. We were both very impressed with the instructor and the way the training was organized. The tutorial, as well as the hands-on experience was a great introduction to something we knew very little about. It was well worth our time and the cost. As for my purchase from them, I knew what I wanted (through research) when I went in there, and they were both polite and informative, answering any questions I had, and allowing me to handle other handguns (which only reinforced my decision on what I wanted). I would recommend these folks to anyone who is interested in becoming involved in firearms. Ask them honest questions, and they'll give you honest answers. A positive experience, overall! read more
