I have been coming to this restaurant when it was still located in Downtown Clovis. The quality of food belies the abstract layout of the restaurant itself, shaped more like a corridor than an eatery. I'm not sure if the prices have changed in the last decade, the best deal being the one fish combo. You get the equivalent of a medium french fries, one large piece of fish that fills the entire basket and a little extra just because. Everything is fried fresh, I cannot count the number of times I've burned my mouth on some hot fish because of my impatience. The clam strips are also very tasty. The family that owns the restaurant are stalwarts in the community and you could not find a better local business to support. All in all, if you have some free time and are in the area, you owe it to yourself to try this unassuming restaurant. Your stomach, and wallet, will thank you. read more

I have been coming here for years and it is always delicious and consistent. The restaurant has a quiet relaxing feel with calming music playing in the background. I've only ever had the fish and chips with various different sides. Every time the food is hot. Now the only reason I won't give 5 stars is because I know the majority of the food is frozen and not fresh. Sometimes I just want Fish & Chips. You know, battered, fried to a crisp but flaky on the inside fish. I was in the middle of Clovis and remembered this place was next to BC'S Pizza. So, I went inside. After looking at the menu for a minute, I noticed a few things. Most of the items are consistent in pricing. That's pretty cool for a customer and simplifies it for the register. I also saw Clam Chowder bread bowls. They had a special that day of fish, clams and chips. It was $7.49 for the special and was what I wanted anyway. I also got a fish and shrimp and a fish and chicken. The chicken was for my niece and she must have liked it. My kids really enjoyed the fried clams. They were cooked perfectly and had a satisfying balance between batter and clam. These were the first thing to disappear from our haul. Next time I come in, I need to remember to shoot a picture of the fish filets. They are epic in size! This is definitely the star attraction for this place. Perfectly cooked as described above. The salt level of the batter was just right. It brings out the best flavors in the fish and not over battered like many other places. I love clam chowder. When I ordered it to go, I was curious about how it would be packed "to-go". They warm a sourdough roll, cut the top off and cut the bowl out. Those cut pieces are then grilled to toast the exposed bread and then reassembled and wrapped in foil to keep them warm. The chowder is packed in a Styrofoam bowl. When we got to them at home, we didn't bother pouring it into the bowl. Instead we dipped the bread into the chowder. The chowder itself was great! Not too starchy and chocked full of clams. I will say this is not a fast food restaurant. Everything was cooked after it was ordered. Well, I'm sure the chowder was done prior, but you get the point. I felt for fish n chips like somebody else on here after just being in Monterey where they wanted $18 (say what). I came here and was pleasantly surprised ordering my 2 piece meal with fries and it was like $8. The place was clean, the food was good, and i was super satisfied and felt like i got a great deal. My first time at West Coast and I left not too happy. I went to this Fish & Chips with high expectations, as I have read many reviews on yelp that seemed to have positive compliments and reviews. I walked in and I was the only one in there, it was about 4pm which I thought was odd. This is always a bad sign for me, not seeing no one in a restaurant. Well I ordered two pieces of fish. The fish was crunchy, nice size and very warm when I got them. They came with an okay tartar sauce. I know mine is better to tell you the truth so that was a little disappointing. Well I also ordered the onion rings instead of having the chips that came with it and was told that they was .90 cents more. I said fine give me the onion rings. Well here's where my visit went downhill, as the onion rings had hardly any batter on them and they were lukewarm at best. I told the owner and she said, "well you can put them in a 350F oven and they will warm up and taste just as good as when they were first cooked". I was really surprised by her response. I have to tell you that she was Asian and a very nice lady. Umm they make do this in her home country, I get it, but this was the first time I ordered food out and was told to take it home and cook it myself lol. Overall I give this place 2 stars. First off, as many other reviewers mentioned, this place is VERY kitchsy; there's buoys, fish nets, fake fish, etc. covering the walls. That part I didn't necessarily mind, I'm mean, sure it's cheesy, but whatever, we're in central California, and without the ocean anywhere nearby, they have to make it feel ocean-like somehow (even if it's not very authentic looking at all). The kitchen is open so you can see them making all of your food, which is of course, always a good thing. However, the bad part of this that applies specifically to this restaurant, is that there's industrial fans all over the floor in the kitchen that you can see are covered in dust. It definitely doesn't make me feel too good about the sanitary conditions of the place at all. I mean, if they can even keep their kitchen free from dust flying everywhere, then I don't even want to know what else they have going on back there. Plus, there's always that really sticky feel all over the tables and chairs from all of the grease on the food; I hate that! Anyways, on to the food. My fiancé and I ordered some fish'n'chips and a bowl of clam chowder. First off, this chowder no where near compared to Splash Cafe down in Pismo, and I wasn't expecting it to. But it did have a real grainy feel in your mouth which wasn't the most enjoyable thing, because the actual flavor of it wasn't too bad. The fish'n'chips also did have a tremendous amount of flavor either, but again, they weren't terrible. I do remember them having some pretty good tartar sauce though, but whether it was home-made or store bought, who knows (although I'm suggesting the latter, as the rest of the food wasn't spectacular). Altogether I think we paid around $12-15 with a soda as well. The price wasn't anything over the top, and it's what I expected to pay for seafood anyways, but the quality/taste of the food didn't really justify me coming back here any time soon, if at all. read more

This place used to be amazing but it went all downhill. You used to get good flaky meaty fish. Now the fish is cut thinner than a fish stick. What looks like big pieces of fish is ALL batter. Completely disappointed with this place. If you want some good food don't go here, go to the fish n chips on fresno and Gettysburg. This place completely changed the food they serve because I believe they have a new owner. Chicken isn't the same they serve what looks like frozen chicken strips, the shrimp all bread only a small sliver of shrimp actually in it, and even the sides taste different like fries and hush puppies, not the same as before. If you liked this place and haven't been in a while like me, early 2020, you might be disappointed. The fish was so good before. The batter was crispy and just so good. But now, it's reminds me of the frozen flat fish patties you buy from the frozen food section of the grocery store. The fries were rubbery and overdone. The clam chowder was not very good. This is the worst fish and chips place I've ever been to. I'm in Clovis visiting my mom and she decided she wanted fish for dinner. So at 5:08pm I placed an order. It was my first time trying this place so I ordered several things, fried clams, prawns, crab cakes and of course fish and chips. Continued what I was doing but 30 minutes later never received confirmation that the order was received. Looked at the status and was told to call Grubhub, which I did. That person couldn't find my $40 order. I hung up and called the restaurant. The owner told me she had no order from me. I tell her about yelp/grubhub and she says she doesn't have an account with them and again, there's no order. I call grubhub back and after a bunch of questions, my order was found. At this point, it's going on 45 minutes from original order placed. The rep tells me he understands what happened, an order is placed then the driver goes to the restaurant to place the order for me and deliver it. However, now almost an hour into the driver wasn't even at the restaurant. He was close but not there. I tell him I want my money back and he says let me check on his status. Gets back on the phone and amazingly the order was in fact placed and will be delivered shortly at 7:08pm At 7:15pm my cold food finally arrives. I take the food and the driver actually stands there like he was waiting for a tip. (Not happening) I start dividing food and right away notice the brown fries under my barely moving fish and extra dark clams. Everything had been refried and was as hard as a brick. After waiting 2 hours for food when I haven't eaten all day, I prayed it tasted better that it looked because we were really hungry....nope! It tasted as bad as it looked. Absolutely nothing was worthy of eating and all went in the thrash. The rep asked me at the end of the conversation if there was anything else he could do, I said yes! Yes, it's just deep fried fish and potatoes. Yes, anyone can make it. No, not everyone can make it taste this good. Been here twice: Lunch - ordered the fish and shrimp platter. I consider the fish portions were a pretty hefty, not just a few dinky pieces. The batter was golden nice and crisp, not thick like most places that leaves you fishing for the fish meat.
