As soon as I walked in, the odor or fish hit me right in the nose. Personally I did not really like that aspect of the restaurant. I understand it's a "fish n chips" place, but the odor should be pleasant when walking in, not overwhelming as mine experience was. I had been wanting to try this place for a while now. I would drive past it when heading to Fashion Fair Mall but just never got around too until now. Service was good, the lady taking our order was nice at explaining any dishes we were curious about. I asked how big the fish pieces were and she explained they were like ten inches long and I was shocked, like WOW. So I went ahead and ordered the two piece fish n chips. The kitchen is right behind the cash register so you can clearly see them making the food, which is nice. So you know that you are actually getting fresh food. Our food took less than ten minutes yo be served. Just from the look of it, the good looked freshly made. When I saw how big the fish pieces were I was really surprised because they were the biggest fish n chips I had ever had. Both the fish and fried were sizzling hot. I tried the fried first, and they had a very nice crunch to them, just the way I like them, not soggy at all. They had great flavor as well. The fish however, was very greasy. It had too much coating on it. I would squeeze it and my fingers would be covered in grease. The tarter sauce they provided was good, it complimented the plain flavor of the fish nicely. The fish was great! The calamari & clams also great. Hushpuppies BOMB- The cocktail and tarter sauce were both perfect. The 4 stars would be for the French fries they were not very good or seasoned. I also didn't like the food being served in paper boats. It felt a little messy and there was not room to put anything down other than on the sticky table top. The place could use a thorough cleaning but overall the food was very good. Will def give them another shot. read more

Mixed emotions from my first two experiences, I will be back now that I know the rules. The restaurant closes at 7pm. So the first night didn't get a chance to try, so I came back the next time about 6:40pm as I entered I asked the owner if he was open , as he was shutting off lights, he said take out only. Hotel was 10 min away no chance it would be hot, but I wasn't going to miss the opportunity. Got a 2 piece with 4 prawns. I was pleasantly surprised. The batter was still crispy and their tartar sauce was tasty. The prawns were crispy, and the cocktail sauce was tasty as well. It had sown heat, which might be a turn off for my parents, OA, I want to come back to try it when the dining room is open to enjoy right out of the fryer. The crispy batter on the fish and the sauces warrant another try. Plus need to try out the hush puppies and calamari. I just need to arrive when it is convenient for the restaurant. read more

The fish was so crunchy golden and delicious, not heavily battered like a lot of places here in Fresno, the calamari was good too, wish they had the rings with tentacles lol but they were crunchy and tender inside, lots of flavor specially when dipping into their tartar sauce.... Still my Number 1 choice for fish and chips out of anyplace here or at the coast! I love the mild white fish and the light coating. Their tartar sauce is a great accompaniment for the fish. Prawns are great here, too. I like the shrimp cocktail sauce and the cole slaw is so creamy and tasty. Fries are good and you get an ample amount. We picked up from here and the only complaint is I wish the girl that took my order was a little bit more friendly. I got the two fish and 6 scallops it was really good except for the fries they were good at all. My wife got the 2 fish and chips and she loved hers as well. The tartar sauce is good but the cocktail sauce was amazing. My mother got the 12 prawn and she really liked them as well and got it with onion rings but they were ok. For our first Friday of Lent, we decided to come to West Coast Fish N Chips for the first time ever. It is a smaller restaurant and we got there around 6pm so we beat the after 6pm rush. I got us a seat while my husband waited in line to order. Clam Chowder- 5 out of 5. It came with oyster crackers and absolutely delicious. Fish n Chips- 4/5 My husband loves fish n chips. Had a bite of my husband's fish and it was good. He refused to let me eat his prawns, but he liked them. He didn't finish his fries so I finished them. They were cooked well, but needed salt. I salted them and they were really good. Crab Cakes- 3/5. I've had better crab cakes. They looked a little burned, but $4.99 for 2 crab cakes is not a bad deal. Service- 5/5, Amazing, Liz whom I knew, was doing cashiering was sweet and kept up a good pace with the line, the ladies who brought out the food were efficient. I will definitely be back. read more
