Long post! This isn't our first visit, so I'll do a recap of our first experience and then get into our recent visit! They ask for a recent rabies shot verification before any services are provided. When we first got our cats Jade and Solo (2021), we were looking for a cat grooming place. A lot of groomers don't service cats. We stumbled upon this location. What sold us as a returning client was the "application" portion. They had you fill out some paperwork before getting your cats groomed. A few questions were about the level of stress your cat. Questions like would allow the use of cbd oil, or would you be able to be in the same room as them to calm them down. As a first-time cat mom, this made me so happy! Okay! Fast forward to 6/18/23: We called and made an appointment for all 3 of our cats to get groomed at the Arcadia location. We got a text and email notification of their appointment. The day prior, we called and asked if it was possible to add a service to our long-haired cat. The service we wanted was something they don't recommend to first-time shavers, and they didn't have time available (on the same day as our appointment) to so they recommended a belly shave. Upon checking in, we told them we found a flea. We asked what their protocol for a contaminated carrier was because we had a cloth one. They said we could drop off the cats and take the carriers with us home to get them washed before coming to pick them up when they're finished. Not a problem, considering we were already doing a deep clean of the house while they were away. During check-in, we were wondering if it was possible to add a flea bath to their service. They were kind enough to do so. We had two groomers, Nicole and Noelia. I told them which cat was who, and they took them inside and gave us back the carriers so we could clean them. Jade: luxury spa, sugar scrub, flea bath Solo: luxury spa, flea bath Sabine: luxury spa, flea bath, deshedding, sanitary trim, and full belly shave (our most expensive kitty because she is a long-haired cat) $246 for all 3 cats (I tipped them 25% because of all the last-minute adds and how they accommodated us with our current situation) All 3 cats took about 3 and a half hours, maybe even four. Their appointment was at 12 pm. I dropped them off a little earlier than that. Received a phone call at 3:29pm, letting us know that the cats will be done in 20 minutes. In between those hours, we were able to deep clean the house using chemicals, so it all worked out, lol. At pick up, I was presented a "paw"gress report. Not gonna lie, I look forward to these every time! I wanna know how my babies did! They also gave us little treats for them, and they always come home with some sort of cute accessory around their necks! One of the groomers told me during sabines sanitary trim, and they found a worm coming out of her butt so I gotta make a call to the vet! Things like this make me feel that my babies (cats) are really being taken care of! When I got home, they came out of their carriers with a cute banadana around their necks! Each time after the groomers, they have a cute accessory on them. They looked so pretty and handsome! They also feel soft and smell clean! The cool thing about this place, if you can't go to them, they can come to you using their mobile service! Returning customer for sure! read more

I was extremely fortunate to pick and find them. They have some amazing instructors that are patient and let you have room to grow and learn. Huber Pineda was my main instructor. I'm truly grateful for him in helping me expand my growth as a groomer. For a beginner dog grooming course I found it to be excellent. I just wish that I had more time interning with them after graduating and receiving my certificate. Something has changed and the work quality has suffered. This was our pup's fav groomer and we always took her to the academy cause it's a good deal with good quality of service. This past time, we saw a significant difference in quality of work. Our pup's face was not as cleanly white as it normally was and the face wasn't trimmed well. In fact, we had to re-trim her face ourselves. The worst part is that they nicked her paw pad which caused her to a lot of discomfort and resulted in a painful hotspot. I guess I should have taken note when she was whining to leave when I arrived to pick her up. She's a super chill dog and was always happily wagging her tail when I would pick her up in previous occasions. I suspect that they had a change in teacher with the academy but regardless of the reason, the quality of work is just no longer the same. read more

Trying to find a good & trust worthy groomer is more than difficult. As a pet parent (2 Shih Tzus), you want to be able to trust the groomer with your babies & when you return to pick up your babies, you can't help but expect a clean, trimmed, & smelling good! I've tried multiple grooming places and the problem is that when I specially ask them NOT to cut my babies eye lashes, I mean it. Well, they didn't quite understand that part. They cut my babies long lashes & left a red rash on my babies face (cutting too close to her face)! West Cost Grooming Academy is located right off the 210 fwy, inside Pawfection next to a Chevron gas station on Lake Ave. There's parking up front or the back (entrance is through an alley behind the gas station). Chris is not only a groomer but also a grooming instructor. Chris was friendly & cheerful when he greeted me. He asked me what I would like to be done with my babies, any thing specific I would like etc. I strongly mentioned to him that it is important to NOT cut their lashes. He made note of that (called me back asking what I wanted done to my babies, he wasn't sure :/). I had to wait for him on the first visit (30+ min & couldn't wait for him the following appt. Left my babies with the staff). The grooming is done by students under supervision of the instructor. Yes, you read correctly, the grooming is done by students. You saw how bad my babies were before & then the after pictures, you'll see what I'm talking about, not bad. So far, I am pretty "pleased" with the results (give & take). Their beautiful lashes were not cut! The smelled good, they came home with bows & bandanas. They do offer pick up & drop off so call & ask for details. *Must bring current vaccination records. *Double check on appointment time & date. *Stars taken off due to lack of communication. read more

I hate to write a bad review for this place, but it was upsetting to find out my dog was licking excessively at his paws after his appointment (he did not do this prior to the bath & brush pluse face, feet, and tail trim. I bought my dog here for the first time for a tidy trim which includes a bath & brush plus a face, feet and tail trim (done by students) First of all, I don't appreciate the owner requesting for payment (and even asking how much I would like to give perhaps even hinting for a tip) before I even receive my dog ( I want to inspect that my dog received the services I paid for as well as make sure he was okay.) I didn't check him entirely until I got home and noticed that his nails were grinded too short and it was red/irritated/slight bleeding..I really would have appreciated if they let me know in regards to that at the time I picked up my dog. I felt deceived by the owner and the students when both the owner as well as the student said everything was fine when I asked if anything was wrong. I don't think I will come back here for my dog.... read more

Yay! It is so nice finding trustworthy groomers, so imagine the delight one feels when finding THE place to have my two pooches taken care of in a professional and loving environment. It's marvelous! My Bucky and Pearl are returned to me smelling so fresh and clean that you just HAVE to snuggle with them even more than usual. I don't need the bows and bandanas, BUT it is sure is cute. I've been a part of WCGA for a few months now and I'm so happy here. As a student I learn something new every day and spend time with cool dog breeds I've never seen before. The staff is kind and friendly and the atmosphere is always positive. Between the students and the customers, I get to meet new people all the time. I've made a lot of friends here that I know I'll have in my life for a long time. Before WCGA I wasn't really doing much with my life. I was struggling to find a school I was ok with, because I don't like being stuck behind a desk and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I didn't want to work aimlessly at some dead end minimum wage job doing something I'm not happy with. Now I have a place to be where I am happy doing something I can enjoy every day, no matter how hard or how long I work. Its nice having a job that makes me feel good about the work I do. I enjoy seeing how great the dogs look and feel when I'm done grooming them. Everyone at WCGA really cares about the animals that come in, and it shows in how much they are pampered. We even learned how to give them massages and facials (that's my favorite part). I also learned things like how to communicate with customers, how to handle even the most difficult dogs, how to read dog body language and how dogs communicate, and how to groom any breed I come across using the skills I've learned at WCGA and my school books. I just wanna say thanks Chris for taking me under your wing and teaching me how to be a groomer. Not just a groomer, but a better person. I sent my dog for grooming for the third time to this place. His body shook as soon as he walked in there. I paid extra for express grooming for more comfort but he was so scared of the groomer and the place. And I took only 10 minutes to pick up since they called but I got the complaint that my dog bit things around on the table. I saw that as my dog was anxious and uncomfortable in this place. He didn't see it as a loving place for him. My dog is a super sweet and gentle dog. He is very comfortable with all human beings around him. Chris is an awesome teacher! I learned so much during his course and he was so helpful accommodating my schedule. The salon is very welcoming and he keeps you busy. The course is super hands on. If you show up and are serious about learning, you'll get a lot out of the class. One of the things I loved was that he works with the local humane society and you get to groom shelter pups.
