Went to start my old 2002 Acura last week, and it was suddenly making a loud exhaust sound, along with enhanced odor. Since I'm way over my teen years, I decided the sound was not a good thing, so I found West Coast Muffler here on Yelp, and it was only 2 miles away, so I gave them a call to check it out. I was told to bring it in the next day at 7:45, which was actually a good time for me. Got there right on time, and there were no other customers waiting, so the owner Steve put it right up on the rack and found a cut in the exhaust right before the catalytic convertor. Someone had tried to steal it, but got interrupted before finishing. He offered to repair it with a weld for $60 while I waited, which I gladly accepted. They found 2 more cuts, and fixed them too. I offered to pay more, but he declined. Everyone there was extremely friendly, especially Steve. We talked some while his worker was doing the welding, and I enjoyed the talk. I also like that I was able to go in and look under the car to see the damages, something a lot of shops won't allow. I needed an oil change, but they don't do that. However, he told me about a 10-minute oil change business down the street, so I got one there, and was home by 9AM with 2 good accomplishments for the day, costing me about $120 total. That's barely more than going to Starbucks! OK, I don't go to Starbucks personally, so I don't really know this for a fact, so don't quote me. read more

I took my 64 Chevelle here because Steve came very highly recommended by several friends. I took the car there for West Coast to complete my big brake install, which meant checking the system, bleeding the brakes, checking the master cylinder, etc. As well as some minor muffler work, After 2 weeks and a bunch of excuses I was called to come get the car. When I went to start it to check the brakes I was told that I would need to tune the car properly in order to get the proper Vacuum so that the booster would work correctly, which was a crock of BULL-SH%#. I was charged over $1000.00 bucks. The insulting part is that the brakes never worked properly until I installed a Hydoboost system myself, in the process of checking there work I found no cotter pins had been replaced on the spindles, fluid was the same that was in there when I dropped it off. Oddly enough prior to dropping the car off and during all of my updates, Steve and his wife were absolutely wonderful, once it was time to get my car they hardly had anything to say to me, especially the wife. This is very unfortunate being that I had looked forward to them doing work on my project. Needless to say I will NEVER recommend or do business with these people again. Came in on Saturday 1/31/15 because my 2002 Beetle was loud and smokey. Her checked it and Welles it for free but informed me I needed a Flex Pipe And I could make an appointment for that. He installed the system and boxed the spare parts up for personal storage. This shop is very busy. Don't get butt hurt if they don't hold your hand while you question the work you want done. Visited Steve at WCM last week for advice on which muffler should be installed to quiet down my 1967 Chevelle with a Big Block motor. Let him know I had done some research but preferred a professionals advice. He steered me in the same direction I was going. He also advised me to purchase them online as it would be quicker. My Ford Raptor's exhaust spent several years on the east coast with their salted winter roads so it seemed to be having issues (loss of power, exhaust smell, rattling). I stopped in to see what new system they'd recommend and they told me it needed a simple patch job and a new bracket. I came back a week later they quickly did ther work and only charged me $60. The weld and new bracket look great and ther truck is running much better again. Great shop and one I'll use again. read more

Linda is the person at the front desk and she made all the paperwork and answer all the questions that I had for my exhaust as smooth as possible. I'm not sure entirely what this shop is capable of doing but from what I can see is they do just about everything on the hot rods in LS engine and trans and I'm sure they do way more. I've been going to West Coast Muffler for many years, having had full brake jobs done, suspension work, and modifying my exhuast system adding Flow Masters. West Coast has always done me right. They have always given me a good price, and have done excellent work. The last job they did was putting Flow Masters on my Suburban with a 454, with two exhuast tips coming out the back. The worker spent so much time making sure each tip was lined up exactly where it should be, I was kinda blown away. He made sure each tip was positioned exactly symectrical with the other tip. And the truck sounds great. I get many compliments on it's sound and asking me what I did. On one occasion, I had just hooked up my 7,000 lb. boat to go on a 350 mile trip, and the master cylinder went bad. I called WC Muffler, and they got me in immediately, and repaired my truck, and I was out the door very quickly. We made the trip without any problems. On another occasion I had them do an install for me, and I forgot one of the parts. They loaned me their truck so I could run home to get the part. These guys are very good. I don't know what happened in that other review, but that has NOT been my experience (or my friends experiences) at all. These guys know their stuff, and are up front and honest. They've even talked me out of work I wanted to do because they said it wasn't necesary. Check out all of the hot rods and such that go there. They wouldn't be in such high demand if they did what the other reviewer claimed - they would be out of busines. I found these guys many years ago, when I asked my co-workers where to go to have exhuast system work done, and everyone at work (gear-heads) recommended them. And several of these guys lived in Fairfield and Vaccaville, but made the trek to get to WC Muffler. I strongly recommend them. Go there (or call them), and talk to them. Then judge for yourself. I think you'll be another happy customer like me and the many co-workers that have had them work on their cars. __________________________ ETA 1/23/14 Had them crank my torsion bars just a tad to gain ~1" on the front of my '97 K2500 Suburban 4WD, and do a front end alignment. Excellent service, once again (as I waited). In addition, they removed my slide in trailer hitch, it was stuck really bad. I had previously beat the snot out of it, with no luck. I had to use a hammer to get it in the last inch or so when installed, and that was in 2006 Add to that several salt water boat launches, and that baby was really stuck. Even the cotter key and pin required heat and a lot of pounding. Steve used a torch to heat up the female hitch receiver, and with a lot of pounding got that bad boy out. It was a PITA! And he didn't want any money for it (I practically had to force him to take $20. Again, old classics on the racks, and in the lot. Still 5-Stars no doubt! read more

Bad news: my catalytic converter was stolen from my car in the Orinda BART station! Good news: I emailed West Coast Muffler Saturday night when they were closed, and first thing Monday morning when they opened, I had a response from them saying they could help and to bring it in if I hadn't already gotten it fixed. Linda was very knowledgeable and in a very easy to understand taught me that depending on the specific year/model/engine whether or not the state of California would allow an aftermarket catalytic converter. I was in luck! I was still dealing with my insurance so didn't bring the car in until a few days later. The owner Steve was there early so I was able to drop off before work. A few hours later, car was done. Steve was happy to put the car back up on the lift so I could examine the work done - looks clean to me. Steve and Linda were both very easy to work with. So I went to get a muffler delete for my e92 328i. Called them over the telephone, a woman answered nicely and gave me a reasonable quote. When I came over, I met this guy name steve. To begin with, he's rude and doesnt care about what you want. I ask for a decent, not too expensive exhaust tip and the guy called me a moron for asking such stupid question (I don't really care, some person are just rude to begin with). When I asked him for a lower price, he told me "This is not a bargain store, its a custom shop" then gave me my car key and walked away. Well, imo type of owner is surely bad for business. Great muffler shop! I called around to shops all around the bay and just kind of stumbled across West Coast Mufflers. I called on a Wednesday morning to see when I could get in to do a Flowmaster muffler and stainless dual exhaust with black tips on my F-150. They said they could get me in that afternoon at 2. When I showed up, they were very helpful in talking with me to make sure I got what I wanted, showed me the tips and asked me where I wanted them placed on the truck. By 4:30 the truck was done.
