If you don't know what to look out for with swindlers, stay away! & Pay the fee to use your credit card so you can file a chargeback with your bank if they don't keep their promises! This will be a lengthy review as Johnny with West Coast Sanitation has warned me he takes these reviews "very seriously" & "will counter everything I say with paperwork & proof." So here's my story. I needed to locate my septic tank & leach lines so I didn't put storage container on top of them on my property. My father-in-law recommended West Coast Sanitation. I reached out to West Coast, told them what I was trying to do & we scheduled a time for his guys to come out. No price was ever discussed before the arrival of West Coasts workers. His gentleman arrived, we chatted about what was going on, & I asked them what this would cost. He informed me it'd be $750 to locate the tank & lines, & to pump it. I thought that was a little steep for what I needed done. So I informed him, I didn't need it pumped, it was working just fine, how much without the pump? He informed me they have to pump it to certify it. I was a little taken back because this is the first time certification was mentioned, so I asked him "There's a certification?" he said "Yes" I asked how much without the certification or pumping, how much just to locate it. He informed me it'd be the same $750. $750 still felt a little high to me for what I really needed, but with a certification that "requires a pump", & my tank probably hadn't been pumped in 8 years, I figured there's enough value in pumping it & certifying it as we didn't have to certify the tank when we bought the house 2 years ago, so I found the value in doing it & agreed to the $750 for the Locate, Dig, Pump, & Certification. Being more expensive than I was hoping for & seeing how I have plans in the future to build more structures on my property, I was curious how much more it would be to get the proper paperwork to submit the septic to the city so I could do that. I mean if it was only $250 or something in just paperwork, why would I not have them do that while they were out at my house already doing everything else. So I inquired as to how much more to include drawings/paperwork needed in order to build additional structures & I was instructed by Johnny via his guy to not do it now, if I'm NOT building now as building codes & st&ards change, to wait until I'm actually ready to break ground. So I obliged & just moved forward with the $750 originally agreed upon finding the extra value in the pump & certificate. I signed the paperwork for the work to start (Which granted does not say anything about certifying, which I will admit, that was my error for being a good human & actually believing somebody would do what they said they would do, life lesson learned, get it all in writing) The gentleman were great, they found the tank, found the leach lines, dug up the lids, a few hours later another team pumped it. As the first team was packing up, the team that took my check & gave me the paperwork, before the pump truck came, I stopped the main person that was working on the project & said "Hey you said something about a certification. Where is that?" his response & I Quote "They will send it to you, that's why I took down your email address" once again being trusting, I said "OK" & off they went. 2 weeks went by, no certificate, 3rd week I sent an email, no response, 4th week sent an email, no response. The next week I called & left a voicemail & Johnny did call me back within a couple hours, he apologized for not responding via email. He said they were having email server issues, I thought that was a little suspicious because their email address is @gmail.com .... but I moved on. I explained to Johnny what was going on & what was promised & he was nice at first, but in a nut shell said that's not what the paperwork or emails say. I reiterated the whole conversation I had with his guy when he was leaving about the Certification & Email address, & Johnny doubled down with paperwork and emails. I asked him how we can make this right he said, "Make what right? We did what was on the paperwork & what was emailed about" After a little back & forth, & me trying to give the benefit of the doubt, & the opportunity for Johnny to come up with some win-win solution, Johnny became hostile & started yelling, which in my opinion is unprofessional, so I ended the call. It felt that he didn't care about being a good business owner & putting the customer first. He didn't even try to say "Hey, I never heard anything about this, this is all new news to me, I'm just going off the paperwork I have, can I call the guy that came to your house & see what's up & call you back?" Nothing of that nature, just continual double and Jonny proceeded to text me making sure I hung up, then left me two voicemails which went to trash because I'm not trusting or working with them ever again. In my opinion, be very careful with this company. You may want to hire a lawyer before proceeding. I wish I had. A lawyer can help you with ensuring that all the elements of a contract are performed. In my case, a C-42 inspection form and plot plan were never completed or delivered to my possession. When I called to find out why, the owner (Johnny Frakes) hung up. I hired another firm to do the work which caused me to pay twice rather than once. The City of Riverside suggested I contact CSLB.CA.GOV to file a complaint for failure to perform according to the terms of the contract. To do so, you must go the website mentioned above. Once there, click the circle with the words "File a Complaint". Go to Licensed and Unlicensed Project Complaints. There is a pdf file in English or Spanish you can download. Fill out the form with the details of your complaint. Once completed, send to the So Cal address which is listed at the top of the form. As of this writing, the address location to send the form is in Norwalk. If you read the numerous 1-star reviews for this company, you may come away with the impression this company is a predator that feeds on the unknowing. Many of the 1-star reviews are fraught with anger, frustration, and disappointment because the customer appears to have lost money and time to this company. In reading through the 1-star reviews, the owner was referred to as a "cursor", "bully", "unprofessional", "unresponsive", "hostile", and someone who is prone to lying. For example, Grissom L said in his review posted 2/4/23 "Terrible customer service, highly unprofessional. Unresponsive. [The owner] will lie to you when you can get him on the phone." In my opinion, you may need to hire a lawyer to be sure you don't have done to you what was done to the others based on the details given in their 1-star reviews. The phone was answered by a live person and after a brief description of what was going on, I got a quote and an appointment for the next day. Top notch service, I needed my septic tank vacuumed and they showed up with in the hour. Johnny did an outstanding job, and went above and beyond what I expected. He is very knowledgeable at his job and did more than expected. After he cleaned out our tanks he had me flush the bathroom and it was still flooded. He actually took the time to dig out the ground to find the clean out tube and clear it out. If it wasn't for him I would still have crap in my tub. I was very pleased with his service and I will be using them again in the near future, and recommend them to all my neighbors and family. Johnny really made sure that I wasnt gonna have issues in the near future and made sure that the clog was clear before he left, while his phone was blowing up with other possible jobs. I would like to balance some of the negative (ie 1) reviews of West Coast Sanitation and its owner Johnnie. Several did not use the service but gave negative reviews anyway (Johnnie is the president of the company, Ram. Why weren't you impressed by his answering the phone?) Other reviewers gave negative comments based on their interactions with Johnnie. My experience was just the opposite. I called WCS and made an appointment. Johnnie came out himself, right on time, spent plenty of time with me, answered all my questions, evaluated my problem more completely than the other people who came out, and was pleasant, thorough, professional and never rude. I chose another company, based mostly on price, but WCS had the second-best price out of the four that came out and gave estimates. I would not hesitate to use this company! read more

I had them come out and pump my tanks and they were late and didn't communicate with me. I had to call 5 times before they finally showed up. I need my septic system looked at for a possible leach line failure for the future so I gave them my information but never heard back. I called again because I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt (may be really busy) but they had no record of my request or service to my septic. I scheduled an appointment today 7/31/17. I was told at 2pm they would be here in 30 min....no one showed. I called and they said they are running behind. I called back at 6pm and they said maybe tomorrow. We needed a C42 inspection and something showing an alternate expansion area so we can install a swimming pool. Prior to pulling a permit the health department must sign off our pool plan and they denied us the first time saying we need a C42 and new expansion area. We called West Coast Sanitation and spoke with Johnny. Johnny sent his crew to our house the next day and they plotted our septic and leach field. Within a week we received the report from Johnny and took it to the heath department. They signed off on it! And now we are getting our pool! We couldn't be happier with this company and highly recommend them!! read more

We used West Coast for a C42 certification. After paying in full we were never able to obtain the certification from West Coast. The owner kept claiming he needed more info and would return calls days later each time costing our project time and money. After close to a month of waiting after we provided West Coast with the requested information and still no certification we chose to call someone else. The new company came out and the next day we had our certification. The new company needed no information from us to complete their work. When we called to let west coast know we had to go else where the owners response was oh good now you can start your pool. I would not recommend West Coast to anyone. If you do decide to use hold your money until they are complete with the work being paid for. read more

This company is owned by "Johnny" who is the President (he was also the person who completed the inspection) of the company and he was unwilling to offer a reinspection. He completed a septic cert on a home purchase in May 2017. After encountering concerns with our septic we reached out to him only to have him say, "you want us to come out for free... what is it that you think we didn't do?" - when that was never the case. I attempted to explain our situation over two telephone calls and he was less than pleasant, rude and was the worst person I have ever had to deal with. We were very willing to pay for a reinspection. He didn't want to come back out. Which was a huge red flag. Beware. Use other service. read more

Just an update: The office manager sent the certificate 24 hrs after the completion of the job. I guess Johnny has a company policy that he will not change even when he knew the certificate was needed for escrow to close. I will say Johnny did rearrange his schedule to get the job done so I will give them 3 stars. If I had received the certificate the day the job was done, it would have been 5 stars. It was pricey but the other companies couldn't do the job until next week so I guess you pay more when you need it done right away. read more

Imagine that your house is on septic. It's the weekend, it's 95 degrees in the shade....and none of your toilets, baths, showers, sinks or any of your household plumbing works. You're a single mom with six children, and NOTHING WORKS. My tenants are like family to me, and I was resolved to get this matter solved. One call to West Coast Sanitation, and their crew arrived within the hour in the late afternoon, and immediately began assessing the problem. Within minutes, they came to the terrifying conclusion that a pipe had collapsed UNDER the foundation. The following morning, they arrived early and started digging under the foundation from the outside, and also excavated the septic tank. It was then that they discovered that the septic tank's leach field had failed. They brought out excavators and other assets, pumped out the tank, repaired the damaged pipe, added risers to the septic tank in addition to some more bidirectional cleanouts. Within two days, the family was back to normal. West Coast's crews were very professional, and their office manager Shirley did all the contracts and credit card billing via email. These folks know what they're doing and they get it done. I highly recommend this contractor. read more
