1 star because the manager was always helpful and responsive. That's where the good stuff ends. This review is absolutely related to corporate level actions which represent a greater problem with storage companies and their insatiable greed. I started renting a unit from West Coast Storage in November 2025. My monthly rent was $159 for a 10 x 10'. $144 rent and a $15 insurance. By May 2026, the company was sending me an email titled RENT ADJUSTMENT NOTICE. Seemingly benign words introducing me to a shocking email that stated my rent would go up to $220, effective immediately next month. From $144 to $220. A 35% increase!!! Here is a direct pull from the email stating why: "We do not take adjusting your rental rate lightly and understand cost increases impact you. We want you to know that this is not a reflection of your tenancy but of several other factors. When we make rental rate adjustments we consider rising facility costs, facility maintenance needs, facility improvements and current rental market conditions among many other factors." Reading this BS was insult to injury. Rising costs from one month to the other at a 35% rate? So ridiculous. I'd heard that storage companies were gouging customers, and now I experienced it myself. I had already read the reviews saying that at about the 6month mark, they ceremoniously increase rent. But I had no idea it would be such a astronomical increase. Cowards hiding behind lies. I'd rather they just come out and say 'we want more $$' than hide behind the joke of "rising facility costs". Companies like West Coast and Public Storage are preying on customers like sitting ducks, waiting half a year until the renter has settled into the unit. Then they hold you captive & gouge you. The obvious question is how can companies get away with this? I've since read about the lawsuits and found out that some companies have a clause saying they can increase rent up to 500%. These business practices are criminal. read more

I started with this company in 2021, renting a 10x10 storage unit for $249 for the entire year--which, in hindsight, was already a high rate. Over time, I noticed that the rent increased every year. Most recently, I've been paying $332 per month. Then, on January 28, 2025, I received an email stating that starting March 1, 2025, my rent would increase to $375 per month. I called to express my concern, as the price had become too high. I told them I planned to move my belongings out by March 4, 2025, because I could no longer afford what they were charging. I spoke with the manager, who assured me that my rent would not increase further if I agreed to stay. Based on that conversation, I assumed the $332/month rate would remain in place for the rest of 2025. A short while later, they called me after noticing I hadn't moved out in March. I returned the call and left a voicemail explaining that I had a family emergency, which prevented me from moving. As a result, I stayed and continued paying $332 per month for the same unit. Then, on April 30, 2025, I received another email notifying me that my rent would increase again--this time to $441 per month starting June 2025. I immediately replied, reminding them that their manager (whose name I unfortunately forgot) had promised my rent would not increase if I stayed. I had every reason to believe my rate would remain at $332. However, I never received any response to my email. I tried calling the facility multiple times, but no one answered. After repeated attempts, I finally got through on May 16, 2025. Unfortunately, the woman I spoke with AARON was incredibly rude and unprofessional. Now, before the end of May, I'm officially moving out. I've already secured a new, clean, climate-controlled facility in Vista that charges just $114 per month for a 10x10 unit--a $304 monthly savings. I was a loyal customer for four years, and this is how I was treated. This company takes advantage of its customers and keeps raising prices without proper communication or regard. To anyone considering using West Coast Self Storage: think twice. The employees are rude, the customer service is nonexistent, and the initial prices are misleading. This has been the worst experience I've ever had with a storage company. TO BE HONEST I WILL GIVE THIS COMPANY 0 ZERO REVIEW. I have no choice to give 0 review. read more

I have been here since 2020! I have witnessed lots change over time and managers come and go. Yes the facility went down hill but has finally taken a turn for the best!!! I see many of these past bad reviews were tenants that were THE PROBLEM! The newest managers have really come in and cleaned this place up SO much! I am extremely impressed as a client. Personally I was planning to leave with how bad things had got and massive improvements have been addressed and handled. These newest manager is The Best I have seen yet! I would absolutely highly recommend this facility after renting from other facilities in Solana Beach and experiencing a renters worst nightmares, this place has been a breath of fresh air even through the minor challenges that have come up. First, it's open and seems pretty clean inside. Plastic shield between people to check in and one bottle of sanitizer on the counter. My issue here is it's a breeding ground and every floor should have sanitizer stations. And someone wiping down carts. Today there was a lot of people going in and out and other than the front desk woman, nobody helping you stay clean. The offer was a bit clumsy, first month free and 50% off the next five.... then rack rate??? Just give me a simple easy deal and put stuff like insurance and lock bold and clear up front. It really was easier to lease my car and more straightforward. And let's not forget the magical $25 management fee???? Huh??? We will grab it for a while since it's close and semi clean. This was initially a well run place. Recently , the management has neglected the facility and there are multiple issues with the operations & maintenance. Staff onsite is spotty. No return phone calls and after hours numbers do not work. I would highly recommend that you walk on by until they start to maintain and care for this property again. In addition, their costs have soared in the past year. 25 to 33 percent increases. read more

After flooding my unit forcing me relocate - they violated my lease (customer since opening, March 2020) and gave my unit to another customer (May 2023). It was documented that they were to honor the lease and return possession of the unit once the repair was complete and they still violated the contract. they suck u in with discounts (for 1 month); i verbally said auto-pay, but he didnt activate it then have to pay late fees, even lien fees to continue paying. they require "special" lock which unique to some storage facilities. Costs extra. Cant use your own lock. A1 storage also. only 1 person working there. You wait for this office person to come back after lunch. (of course) they threw all my stuff out when i was out of town; such big storage places should b able to hold it for u, especially if they want to keep u as a customer. I would try renting from small family storage places, not big anonymous ones which dont care about your well-being. read more

Very impressed! Great location, very clean and safety measures beyond expectations. The entire building was very well lit with motion lights and when I was in the office I noticed they have at least a dozen security cameras. The indoor units are climate controlled and very easy to access- they also had carts you can use. The person I dealt with (likely the manager) was polite and very accommodating! I would definitely recommend this place before the word gets out. read more
