We needed a reasonably priced hotel in Nyack, NY--about the halfway point between Washington, DC and Boston along the Garden State route. After a thorough search, this property emerged as one of only two options that didn't fall into the "high roller" price tier common to the area's newer hotels. The immediate surroundings are more industrial than expected, which may reflect the inn's overall character. The lobby has been updated, but the guest rooms retain a retro, vintage feel - slightly worn furniture and decor. Many travelers will still find it clean and comfortable, though our room did have food left in the refrigerator from the previous guest and a black hair in the tub. The woodwork shows its age, but the bedding and bathrooms have been refreshed. Staff were friendly and courteous throughout our stay. Breakfast was an unusual setup for those accustomed to self serve buffets: a waitress portions out items from behind the line--likely a response to past over serving. Portions were average, though I felt uncomfortable asking for seconds; the selection was solid, including eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, French toast, and juices, all cooked manually. For additional dining options, the Nyack Diner is a short walk uptown and worth the visit. Despite a few drawbacks, the overall value here is good, especially given the price, and I would return. The hotel appears not to have been updated in over 40 years. The room I stayed in stunk. It smelled like a smokers room. There were stains everywhere. The bathroom was old and not updated. The stairs were taped with duct tape.Whatever they are doing with the money they bring in, it doesn't appear they are putting it into the upkeep of the hotel. Overall, it was a good experience. Definitely served the purpose for overnight accommodations. We arrived later than expected. Desk clerk couldn't find our reservation, but with a little research and determination, he figured it out. Thankfully, he honored the original room rates, so 2 stars for that. The room was dated, but we already expected it. We were glad the room was equipped with a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The other bonus is that the property is 100% smoke -free. Rules at the front desk stated fines/ fees would be assessed if a violation occurs. Complimentary full breakfast. Make sure you try the award-winning cheesecake. I stayed at this place looking for a hotel. $200 a night is insane for this place. It's a Motel. I asked for some extra pillows and they looked at me like I was asking for something out of the ordinary. The blanket in the closet smelt like moth balls and so I asked for two blankets (2 separate beds). They gave me that. The breakfast, they give you a buffet voucher you show to their restaurant and then you can't serve yourself. They do. So they charge a high room rate but Nicole and dime you once you are in. What a depressing stop on our mini vacation. This place was recommended on a Sleepy Hollow tourism page. While I do love a good scare, the headless horseman has nothing on this dump. Grimy handprints and streaks on walls, rips and mysterious stains on bedskirts, a carpet that felt..oily while walking barefoot. Dented lampshades, busted hairdryers, peeling wallpaper. I'm usually not too picky about hotel, give me a clean room and decently comfortable bed and I'm good to go but this place?! No, no, no this place is terrible. It smells like cigarettes and mildew, that's quite odd since there is a $200 deep cleaning fee if you smoke. It wreaks of old cigarette smell, it must be embedded in the walls and carpets. Beds were very firm, like a board! Also we arrived 26 minutes earlier than check-in and they wouldn't even take our information, they told us to return at check-in time. The process was fairly easy once we returned though. To top of the dingy scent of this place, the lighting is very dim, it's only lit by 3 lamps in the room, there are no lighting fixtures on the ceiling. There's one outlet extension that hold about 4-5 plugs and no other plugs aside from the two in the bathroom. There are basic amenities which are the only positives here, an ironing board, an iron, a closet with hangers, desk with a mirror and a hair dryer. Check-out is at 12 sharp, the housekeeping lady started banging on our door at 11:59! If I stay in the area again I would most definitely go back to the Hilton garden inn even though it's further from my destination. Btw - this is a shady area & a shady hotel if you can't tell by now; the kind that you would see criminals in movies use to stay out of the public. read more

I had to sleep in all my clothes because i couldn't trust the mattress due to the condition of the room. I only spent 5 hours here before I woke up and got a refund. Upon arrival I felt that this was a fairly nice Inn for something that has three stars. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom looked nice , the TV had good enough quality and the water pressure in the shower was very nice. Once the nightfall came the good enough service that we recieved before changed drastically. When I went to ask the staff that was in the lobby for a plunger I was met with increasingly rude attitude from one of the maintenance who asked me "Why are y'all still up. I checked y'all in around 3pm. It's 5am." The person who worked behind the counter proceeded to tell me that the Inn did not have a plunger and gave me an attitude as well as I tried to explain to him that their weak toilet was clogged. I've never felt so disrespected in my life at an Inn. One of the worst experiences I've had. read more

I did NOT enjoy our stay. The room had an overwhelming smell of smoke. I woke up with a sore throat from it. The room temperature was difficult to control it was either hot or cold, couldn't get a comfortable temperature. There was only about 4 minutes of warm water in my morning shower before it turned FREEZING cold and I had to jump out without washing my hair. We saw dust around the room where it hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time. The tub also needed to be cleaned. The ceiling and walls needed repair. Lastly the vending machine was out of order in the lobby so we couldn't get bottled water to drink. I would NOT recommend this hotel. read more

Booked a king bed stay for one night and it was great. The room was clean, the bed linens were very clean and smelled like bleach which to me is a huge deal. The bed was super comfy as well as the pillows. There was a lot of channels to choose from which is always good. The bathroom was also very clean but I did notice a musky smell at times but then it would go away. There's carpet right outside the bathroom door so maybe there was a leak at some point but that wasn't a deal breaker especially for the price. They do have free breakfast at the diner adjacent to the lobby. They give you a voucher where you chose from a few options but we ordered a side of bacon because meats are not included. The diner is really nice, clean and has friendly staff. They also heavily advertise cheesecakes by Lisa whose won many first prizes for her cheesecakes. My husband was craving a slice so we purchased one. Geez! $7.50 for a slice!!! That's way more than Juniors. He did say it was good. A whole cheesecake will cost you $35 FYI. I did read complaints from other sites about rude front desk staff. My husband says they were friendly and had no issues with them. I encountered them as well and had no issues either. Overall, we had a nice relaxing stay here. The room was great, parking is free and the breakfast was good. I would stay here again for sure. Also...it's close to Palisades Mall (about 10 min) and close to Main Street (about 3-5 min ) driving. This is a huge plus. Main Street was beautiful! A must see. read more

It's a perfectly fine budget motel. Clean, if a bit dated. The walls are thin and the TV going all night in the room next door made for a restless night, but, eh, kind of to be expected especially since the rate was lower than all of the other non-sketchy hotels nearby. Breakfast is included; nothing fancy (your standard flavorless carbs, starch, and bland eggs) but plenty of it. The little restaurant has a nice family-diner feel, and apparently the cheesecake is award-winning. I'm a regular customer of the Westgate Hotel and have been coming here for the past five years. I've reviewed a couple key -- and excellent -- amenities that they provide. The Lounge: My experience has been great. Once a month in the beautiful, well-kept, and very clean lounge they host an 11-piece disco band. It packs the room every month! And the bartenders do an incredible job serving the large crowds. Also, between band sets, there is a great DJ who plays classic dance music. It complements the band quite well. The Restaurant: The food is always great and tasty while the restaurant staff is courteous and always takes good care of their customers. They also now have an AMAZING breakfast buffet. The Front Desk: The staff members at the front desk are friendly and helpful. This is not the kind of place that will give you an attitude for asking questions or requesting information. The Management: Always on top of everything. All areas are the hotel run smoothly in my experience. The Hotel: Clean, well-kept, and comfortable! I've never been disappointed! Even for budget hotels, I've experienced better. The fact that this place seems dated would not affect my review. I'm more interested in a clean room with comfortable pillows. I'm kind of struggling between a 2 and a 3 here. I would make an effort to not stay here in the future. The pros: *Location: easy to take a commuter bus from Port Authority and then take a $6 taxi to here. *Shopping: Go left on 59 and you're in a charming town. Go right, there's Palisades center. *Newish bathrooms: the bathrooms seem new and are clean. If you forgot some essentials, the front desk has them. *The staff is friendly *The cheesecake is delish. The cons: *pillows were shredded polyester. *the surfaces of the room, although not dusty, were grimy. I took a facecloth and wiped off the surfaces of the desk, the side things, the microwave, the door knob. The facecloth probably had to be tossed. *outside entrances only. This is a motel; this is not a hotel. *no swimming pool *breakfast was very basic with horrid coffee. Tip: take 10 minutes and walk to the diner near the Super8. I have to say, I have worked in service industry healthcare and I have to say staffing is incredibly important. Customer service is actually complex and it has to do w creating a safe functional situation for the customer in this industry. I have to note a total standout-- felt that the night manager Bryan or Ryan? Actually motivated me to finally write yelp review despite immense experience as a hotel customer. I would actually call myself a hotelophile. Night staff which I usually don't even notice was especially excellent. Aside from being awake courteous late in the evening Brian (I think)was polite and helpful as well as reassuring. I wasn't quite sure of crime data etc for this area but he seemed more capable and in control of the area than a bunch of officers. The creepy exterior though super cool I think seems like a Hollywood effect after noting safety measures. Ok here it comes the cool night manager cannot make up for yucky pillows old beds! Thus place could be super rockstar if the just fixed pillows and beds. Also a little bummer is the way it seems rigidly stuck in a time capsule I love the 80s party night signs but the are so dated a bit jarring and so just confusing the disgusting looking strip club brunch is ominous instead of cool. The best phrase I could use to describe my experience would be "barely adequate". The power supply in between the beds was broken. Neither one of the USB outlets worked, and only one of the power sockets worked. Makes charging your mobile devices difficult when you have two people and one functioning outlet. The only standing lamp in the room was also broken. The desk lamps worked fine. There were a lot of stains on the carpet and walls, and the bed was uncomfortable (although that part I kind of expected for the price). The shower however was the worst part of the stay. Their showers have one knob for hot water and one for cold. If you turn the cold knob on at all, even if the hot knob is cranked to 11 cold water is all you will receive. So your two temperature options are freezing cold and scalding hot. Wouldn't stay here again if I had any other options. read more

I had a deep sense of dread in my gut when I walked into this tiny room. From the smears on the wall to the ripples in the carpet, everything told me to flee. It really looked and felt like something from a David Lynch movie. That is when I noticed the scatter pattern on the wardrobe in the wall. At some point in the not so distant past somebody had taken a load of birdshot at point-blank range. A few of the holes in the wardrobe had been rubbed with magic marker in an attempt to cover them up, while others had been left in their raw condition. There were still a few pellets lodged in the wallpaper behind it. I swear on all that is holy I am not making this up. Needless to say we did not spend the night in this room. In the past years I've been celebrating anniversaries and birthdays in this hotel with free access to the lounge but now when I try to book I'm told that besides paying over $100.00 for one night that I'll also have to pay for the entrance to the lounge. The walls had stains, that I could just imagine where they are from. And no shower curtain. The smell of cigarette smoke imbedded in everything. You have been warned. Check in at 1 am was so difficult for the front desk person, Brian was his so called name. I checked into my room and couldn't spend more than 30 minutes in that filth. And Brian said he had been in that room just a couple of days ago and it was fine. My interpretation of fine and his are two totally different things. My response to him was, you must be kidding. He refused to give me a refund. I can't believe this disgusting place can exist. It's near the Time hotel. Save yourself the aggravation and if you need a hotel in the area, DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL. I'm not a super picky person but to me cleanliness is very important. This was straight out of the shows were the cops go and break in the hotel door to lock someone up. GROSS PLACE. The smell of that room stayed on my clothes. Stood here for the night on November 24, 2018 for my best friends bday celebration woke up on Sunday morning with bites on my arm didn't think much of it when o got home i noticed my arm was swelling i went to urgent care where they asked if i had any more and when starting to exam I had a few more on my arm they told me that it was bed bug bites i nearly died of disgust I then called the inn and told them I stood in room 262 and they told me house keeping was gone they'll shut the room down and handle it in the morning I have yet to receive a call from the Westgate Inn apologizing or compensating me for my night at there Inn this has been the worst experience ever the hotels looked clean but didn't smell very clean my best friend had to leave her room door open to air it out we dealt with the minor issues because it was her bday and we were celebrating at Westgate lounge I've never left a bad review on any restaurant or hotel I've been to but when you don't get a call to follow with your experience at a business knowing there was an incident is where i draw the line STAY AWAY FROM WESTGATE INN read more

Do not stay here. After checking in on a Friday night, I went out for the evening and returned around 11:00 pm. Got ready for bed and found the top sheet on the bed I used covered with two kinds of human hair that didn't belong to me. Ditto for the second bed in the room. I found a sheet on top of the coverlet that looked clean, remade the bed and went to sleep. The following morning I complained to the front desk clerk, who told me I should have called her when I saw the dirty sheets. She would either have brought clean ones or moved me to another room.
