Storage fees and the cost of repairing damaged parts caused by the repair shop were added to my insurance bill, affecting my monthly

WARNING: Deceptive Business Practices & Hostage Tactics Read this article and check out the Reddit and Facebook posts before taking your car in. "They Damaged My Car's part, Then Tried to Blame Me" If you are considering West Hills Collision, please review their BBB profile and other 1-star reviews first. You will see a disturbing situation that has happened to me and many others: "You bring your car in for one repair, and they damage another part of your car. Then, they hold your car for months, charging you thousands of dollars in storage fees and insurance premiums. They held my car for over 2 months!" 1) Unprofessional, Irresponsible, and Fraudulent: This shop operates more like a middleman than a repair facility. They subcontract important work to a third party. While repairing the rear panel, they damaged the rear window defroster. Instead of taking responsibility, they blamed it on "the part that may have worn out, and it no longer works". My car arrived with no problems, and they had the nerve to say that. It wasn't until I mentioned suing them that they began processing my insurance. Poor Quality & Salvage Parts: Despite my car having original OEM parts, they replaced the broken glass with recycled/salvage glass from a junked vehicle. 2) "Delay Tactics" (Steve): Steve is the initial exchange and pick-up. When I brought my car in for a rear panel repair, during the repair, you would not receive any information about the car unless you made a call. Even if they damaged another part of my car, they would quietly inform my insurance that the part was damaged. When the shop damaged my defroster, Steve denied responsibility, claiming it was my car's fault, and the issue was delayed for weeks. He refused to take action until I threatened to contact the DOJ (Department of Justice). It seemed like he was there to stall for time, allowing storage fees to accrue. After dragging out repairs for weeks, they suddenly stopped working on the car altogether and then started threatening $250/day in storage fees, even though I was only waiting for them to fix what they had broken. 3. "Legal Manipulation" (Broc): Broc, the manager, ran the scheme. He initially tried to push the responsibility onto me. When I protested, his attitude changed. He suddenly launched into a complex legal argument (Clearly AI supported), citing specific Oregon Statutes (ORS) to force my insurance company to cover the damage caused by his third party, as well as substantial storage fees. He used my situation to inflate the claim amount by thousands of dollars (the storage fees alone caused my bill to skyrocket to over $3,000). The shop damaged the part (rear defogger) on 22nd October, and when the insurance did not cover the damage caused by the shop, he charged me for the storage fee on 22nd October. Steve initially said it was my car's fault. After I told him I would take it to court, he informed Broc (the manager) and reiterated that it was the fault of the rear panel repair. On the day I was finally supposed to pick up my car (11/17), Steve emailed me at 1:08 PM stating the car would be ready at 3:00 PM. Just 32 minutes later (at 1:40 PM), he emailed again, claiming a sudden "front suspension" issue was preventing completion, and moved the car to yet another shop. The Outcome: They held my car for over two months. I had to file a formal complaint with the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation (DFR) just to resolve the mess they created. Check their BBB profile. I am not the only one this has happened to. Do not trust them with your vehicle. They will break it, blame you, and then hold it hostage to squeeze money out of your insurance policy.

AVOID THIS REPAIR SHOP! Continue if you have time for my bad experience. Initially happy to do business with you because they got work then it goes downhill from there. My front passenger side got hit in January, they had to assess and get the parts and understood it'll take time. End of February I reached out to see if there was any progress, "oh yeah parts just came in". I got my car back in March and surface level looks fine. I was advised not to wash my car for a month to allow paint to cure and it's also rainy season. Late April I reached out because my bumper was drooping down on my driver side to a point where my side marker light was completely off. I brought it in, and they shoved it back into place. Not long after that it started to come off again and I noticed paint fractured lines at the spot they did the repair. They keep shoving it back then finally tell me that I need a new bracket for it to stay on. Of course I purchased the part. No surprise I patiently waited and had to reach out to find out if it came in and to set up an appointment. My car is driven to the parking lot from their garage for me to inspect. I noticed paint fractured lines on the area they repaired, and they said they'll need time to do that. Then I inspected the side with the new bracket as Broc was walking in, and it already started to come off without touching it. I immediately asked him to come back to take a look since he was the last to drive it and pointed out to the insertion point of the bumper being warped and broken from their attempts. He verbally said OK he owes me a new bumper. Of course, I had to reach out to see what the status was and they're backing out on the replacement bumper. On the day I brought it in, there's proof from photos they took that there was no sag on that side, I was given other excuses. For the last 10 months, I have been a more cordial, flexible and respectful client than others. As soon as I'm firm with needing a solution to this because it needs to be back to pre-accident conditions from a repair shop, I was turned away and given a number to the owner (Don Blazer). I have yet to hear back. If you value your vehicle, take your chances elsewhere. No standard of craftsmanship, no follow up, no reliability.

    Gorgeous!

ASTONISHING. Seriously. We were surprised at the level of customer service provided. It's how you always wish the service industry would behave, but rarely what you get. The level of communication, accommodation, trouble shooting, repairs, all the way to delivery - the ENTIRE process was easy, smooth, and stress free. Each person on the team we worked with were friendly, accommodating, patient, empathetic, and so on. Special shout out to Cha. He took time to explain things, offered solutions and went out of his way to make the process easy for us. Based on this experience, we consider West Hills Collision our "go to" for body and mechanical work (not that we are hoping to need them again soon. Ha ha!). They folks are terrific.

All these problems surfaced after the snowfall not too long ago. Jason and team were diligent with their inspection and unfortunately it turns out I have transmission problems. It's on the street somewhere, nothing left, so we have no idea what happened...a rodent? Bad belt? Bad luck? Who knows. I don't drive this car much, so even though it had been two years, it was only about 6k miles. I brought it to them (limped in) and left it overnight since it was after hours. They agreed that they couldn't tell why it failed, but had a new alternator belt on it later that day. When I went to pick it up, I pulled out my credit card. He said "nope" and just shook my hand. It wasn't a lot of miles, but it had been two years, they had no belt to inspect and they still fully covered the work. I've never worked with an auto shop like that. If your biggest concern when choosing a shop is trust, these are your guys.

I also added a comprehensive exam (which they offered at a discounted rate) for them to look at my car as a whole and to let me know what things might need repair now and in the near future. They were able to see my car within a week of me reaching out for an appt, and they only kept my car for ~5 hours. They tried everything they could to find the source of my leak, but when they couldn't, they referred me to Liberty Water Leak, who was fantastic and found the sources of my leak and water damage within a few hours. With the comprehensive exam, they listed each item that needed repair and were not pushy AT ALL. They also answered all of my questions, yes... even the dumb ones. There was an oversight where my wiper cowlings were not installed correctly, so I did leave an honest review on SureCritic saying that I wasn't sure if I'd trust them with further repairs due to that mistake. Within a week of posting that review, the shop called me to apologize and discuss what happened. On top of that, they refunded me my entire bill. I understand now why Tom Dwyer Auto has such good reviews-- They genuinely care about their customers and producing quality work. I am grateful to have been treated with respect, not taken advantage of as a female, and for their determination to correct the mistakes made. Thank you again!
