West of Java Coffee House is a low key place to stop by for your takeaway caffeine fix. I stopped by for my latte to go. Service is very efficient. The mini cafe is too small to accommodate much seating, so it's a locally roasted alternative (to the larger chains like Starbucks) for those who don't mind a quick pit stop en route to or from The Shipyards district. It's located conveniently off of Lonsdale and has a vintage feel - far from flashy. They proudly serve Bean Around The World locally roasted world coffees. read more

My daughter and I went to West of Java coffee house with Grandma for an afternoon snack. I'm quite sure we've driven past this place thousands of times over the years but never really thought to go in until now. It was the " Gooey Cinnamon Rolls" sign that drew us in. Grandma was the one who saw the sign and thought it might be a nice place to try sometime.  Newsflash: The "Gooey Cinnamon Rolls" at West of Java come from Grounds for Coffee! Didn't know this when I stepped into the shop. It was while we were sitting down, enjoying our food and drink that I looked out the window and noticed the Grounds for Coffee logo printed on the "Gooey Cinnamon Rolls" sign that's hanging outside the shop. It's small and easy to miss, but it's unmistakably the Grounds for Coffee logo. I was over the moon when I realized that I no longer have to drive all the way to Commercial Drive or Alma St. to get those Cinnamon Rolls. Now I can get them anytime we go to visit Grandma!  Aside from my excitement about the Cinnamon Roll discovery, our drinks at West of Java were pretty nifty as well. We had Mocha, Chai Latte and a Matcha Latte.  I was also elated to discover that they allow people to bring in their own reusable cups and that you can get a discount for doing so! The greatest secret in lolo. In the summer, I get an iced latte with almond milk and it's always amazing and consistent. The turkey cran sandwich is something I wish I could recreate on my own. In the winter, they have the best London fogs. This place is so cute and I go here any opportunity I can. read more

Very small coffee shop off of 1st and Lonsdale. I came here on the way to the comic book shop that is on the same block. Because it was hidden away it was less populated than others. Bonus points as they sell Bean Around the World beans and cinnamon buns. There is nowhere to sit inside and because it is small and narrow social distancing was a bit of a song and dance challenge between people coming in and out, however, for the most part people were respectable. I had a decafe single shot latte with some vanilla. Prices are on par with other shops. read more

Great coffee, from a simple and efficient little shop. Its nice to not have to wait behind people reloading their coffee cards. It also seems like few people get fancy coffees here which makes it very convenient. It usually takes a quick 20-30 seconds to get my morning brew. read more

Quite possibly the cutest neighbourhood coffee shop ever. It's tiny - just a sliver of a space next door to a bike store, but they have the high ceilings and use those walls to maximum advantage to show paintings and drawings by local artists. There are a a few counter seats inside, plus a couple tables outside. In the summer, people with cute dogs and well-ridden bikes simply flock here, because it's been in Lower Lonsdale forever, and they're known for great coffee. Anyway, I had the chance to stop in again the other day ... and the server was really friendly, plus she was nice enough to let me borrow an outlet to charge my dead cell phone. (They also have free Wi-fi.) I also liked that in addition to a nice selection of newspapers, they also have current copies of gossip mags to peruse. (It's okay to read them if you don't actually buy them, says I.) I was very behind in my Jennifer Aniston-related news, you see. They don't have much in the way of food, unfortunately, but what they do have is nice and fresh. read more

These guys brew Beans around the World and serve Silk soy which makes me happy! Super tiny little place with lots of character. There's always lots of locals (and puppies!!) sitting outside when it's sunny. Free wifi too! I didn't notice any vegan food options but the coffee is good and cheap so can't complain too much! The girls who work here are the sweetest gals ever. I don't go very often but when I do they are very kind and seem to remember me. Last time I went they were out of mango for the smoothies. So I tried the four berry smoothie. Yum! Today when I went I ordered it again. When I was about to leave she told me she was ordering mango and would have it for next time. And asked me how I liked the four berry smoothie. I thought it was so great that she remember me for ordering the mango one. Thanks ladies for the great food/smoothies and service. Nothing special, place feels cold and not very welcoming. No newspaper, electric fireplace is not running despite cold weather, cinnamon roll tasted not very fresh. They need someone to puts some love and passion into this place. read more

This is my fav coffee shop in all of North Vancouver. The owners Jean and James are super friendly, they go out of their way to please and honestly, they make the best coffee I've found. It's a very tiny place so sometimes it's hard to find a stool but if the weather is nice, the very best place to be is out on their little patio fronting on E 1st St. So much happens at that corner, endless entertainment and amusement! It's a great place to meet your neighbours, business associates and some of the other regulars, or just hang out reading the free papers or surfing the free WiFi.
