Used to frequent this place a few times a week. Friday was first time back since new mgmt took over...it'll be my last. Limited menu, higher prices, and the place has lost the friendly atmosphere. Fantastic service! My first time eating here, I found the service and employees extremely friendly! Our waitress was top notch! The food is delicious. You can tell they are using fresh ingredients, by the quality of the food. The menu is small but any good restaurant has a select menu so they are able to focus on making the best dish for you. The food portions for the price were small and they loaded your plate with the non Essential food, like rice and Orzo. It was disappointing because it use to be high quality and worth the price. Couldn't recommend this place less. Came here a couple weeks ago with a few guys after a Reading Phillies game to grab a beer and a sandwich. First off, the draft list not only unimaginative but the selection isn't even balanced. We chose this place because their website said the list was "professionally selected", but the person making the selections either has to be new to craft beer or just not understand what it means to curate a draft list. Second off, they couldn't cook a burger to temp to save their lives. We each got a burger ranging from medium rare to well done and were all served well done burgers. The manager/owner didn't seem to be around (or care?) so we ate half our sandwiches, finished a beer and headed to Liberty for some wings. I'd suggest skipping over this place. Chicken wings are $1.00 a piece. I'm okay with that; but these were pigeon wings. The one was half the size of my pinky finger. You should be embarrassed to serve them. Rest of the food was very good. I'm glad I only ordered 6 wings!!! read more

This is one of my favorite places to go when I travel to Reading. Small place with a bar upfront with a restaurant in the back. Service at the bar is good, and isn't as crowded as in back. Food is outstanding. Try the pork schnitzel- it's fantastic .Don't count the calories, just go for it! Mussel Monday's can't be beat. Really good overall - You won't go wrong if you have dinner or a cocktail. Casual atmosphere is great. Bartender is friendly and has been here@ least 5 years. That counts for something. My wife and I we given a gift card which turned out to be a nightmare. First I ordered the chili as an appetizer. The chili was luke warm and had no chili flavor at all which I attributed to the temperature. I exchanged the bowl for another which was still flavorless. I like chili and would have been happy with a can of Hormel but this stuff was horrible so I returned it and cancelled that order. Next came my cheeseburger which I ordered medium; the center was rare. By this time I was so exasperated that I just ate it. Then the finale, the $50 gift card that our son gave us as a present was rejected for having no funds. By this time we just wanted to get out. After confirming with our son that the card was good, my wife called the restaurant the next day. The manager was indignant and questioned our complaint. That was a mistake but he later called back to apologize and informed us that the gift card processor made a mistake...he spoke too soon. They gave us another $50 gift but we have yet to return. I've had better meals at the local pizzeria but we'll use the gift card just to see how our return visit goes. After we use the card I doubt if we'll ever return. There are just too many dining options in this area. Bad mistake on the part of the manger to make nasty comments and question a customer's integrity. read more

Stopped in with my wife before a concert. A bit pricey for what you get but the quality of food and beverages was very good. Bartender was pleasant and professional. I have been thinking about this place a lot lately believe it or not. There are several places in Philly that remind me of of this the west reading tavern . We had dinner here a few weeks ago, when i was home. I love this place I came here as a child with family now as an adult with friends. I can remember my father reaching on the bar and handing me a complementary pretzel everytime we went there, no more complementary pretzels?? I was told it was a power play against a customer that ate to may of them at one time. I quess that's the way they take care of customers in a costumer driven business!! I have yet to rant on yelp but here goes. This place used to be automatic , food, drinks, coustomers service , the way the empolyees took care of bussiness was part of the atmosphere, but there appears to be new management , and this guy has no personality one of my quests tried to have a conversation with him, she might as well talked to there big red door. He patrols the dining room and stares make one feel uncomfortable. There are a lot of new faces working here things are different, the bartender was scatter brained, the server we had talked a lot , to much and service was slow it took her multiple trips to the kitchen to serve a pary of three.Then she presented us with our check with a full compliment dinner of dishes on our table. Summing it up food was as i remember it, i usually get the tavern chicken but this time i got one of there featured entrees and is was equally good, bartender scatter brained to be nice, service well, if you draw the right server you will be alright, management ..interesting to say the least. They do have a new and nice beer selection, the atmosphere is not the same. It's a shame how poor management fells a nice place. Have been to tavern multiple times but last time was sooo disappointing. Had Panko chicken entree. Panko chicken was dry and equivalent to frozen chicken patty from Costco. The Sunday special is great, 8 bucks for a personal pizza and beer! The bartender was fantastic, he took the time to explain everything offered and was very attentive even though there were several other people to serve. Overall it was an A+ experience, however most of the regular menu items seemed out of our price range, but none the less we will defiantly be back for the specials. read more

Wound up here by chance as not many restaurants open on Mondays in town. So happy we did! It was fantastic! Our server, Amy Lynn was amazing. She recommended us starting with Truffle Fries with Malt Vinegar Aioli - just amazing! I then had the Wiener Schnnitzel and my mom had the Manchester by the Sea. Both dishes were divine. They came with a salad of fresh greens from a local farm and homemade croutons. We both had the home made blue cheese dressing and agreed it was the best we have had. We didn't save any room for dessert. I am looking forward to returning the next time we are in the area. The only negative I can think of is the cost. If you are looking for inexpensive meals, this is not the place. If you want a great meal, definitely try this place and ask for Amy Lynn. You won't be sorry!! read more

I regret spending my Saturday night here. My boyfriend and I sat down at the bar and waited 10 minutes before we had contact with anyone. We had to ask the bartender to wipe down the area in front of us which had food all over it. She wiped it down and put a drink menu in front of us. Took about 10 more minutes before she asked what we wanted to drink. Then we asked for a food menu and it took about 10 minutes before she came back to take our order. We ordered duck fat fries and French onion soup. It took 45 minutes for our order to come out. Fries and soup takes 45 minutes?!?!?!? I don't even think these fries were duck fat fries. They were frozen fries and the dipping sauces weren't that good. The regular fries looked better than the duck fat fries. The soup tasted pretty plain. The service was horrible. The bartender never introduced herself. Her name was Alicia. I only know that because I heard other customers talking to her and I noticed because it's my name. She never apologized about the long wait or even acknowledged it. She never checked to see how the food was and didn't bother to ask when we were finished. Do yourself a favor and go to Chatty Monks for their hop fries if you're in the mood for good fries. read more

We are newbies to Reading but have fallen in love with West Reading Tavern! Great selection and knowledge of beers and a very attentive and super friendly staff and management! Must haves: mussels, the fries with the truffle sauce, crab mac and cheese. Yummo! Fiancé enjoys the burger and chili (if you're a meat eater). This is probably one of the worst customer service encounter I've ever seen. Coming from someone who has worked in a restaurant for 6 years, there was no excuse for how we were treated. Our server was not willing to explain to us how their sandwich special worked, therefore, we were over charged and when we asked her to please fix it, she was unwilling. She was also unable to accommodate for dietary needs. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos. They did not taste right and I took one bite and asked our server if I could order something else instead, she said "hold on" and walked away. She returned 10 minutes later, when my family has finished their meals, only to say, "you can order something else but there is nothing wrong with your plate so I will not refund it. This a nice warm old school bar with a good food menu. What sets this place apart is their awesome beer selection. They carry a very nice array of brews from around the world on tap and their taps are always changing. For a "Tavern" they seem to have more of an upscale food selection. Everything was well prepared and they use quality ingredients. This is a great date night type of a bar that is never crowded or too loud. I will definitely go back soon. read more
