West Reading Tavern came recommended from a friend and did not disappoint. I didn't check out the dining area or patio, but the bar area is small, dark, and intimate. We weren't sure in the beginning, only having one beer and leaving. We walked to another nearby restaurant, which was more modern and trendy, but quickly realized that we needed to go back. There's something charming about the Tavern. If you are a craft beer lover, you will love this place. Not only a well rounded variety of drafts, but an even better bottle selection. The prices are well below what you'd see at any other bar. Well below! We shared the calamari and pad thai fries. Both were above average. The calamari was fresh, not over fried, tossed with bok choy, and a sweet chili sauce. I could have eaten another plate! We mainly ordered the fries because it was a combination we had never had before. I loved the cabbage and carrot mixed in with the fries. The pad thai sauce added a sweetness - no ketchup needed! A great twist on such a bland and boring food. We are looking forward to coming back! Lots of beers to try!

Four stars for being a nice hangout for drinking buddies. Three stars for the food. Rounded down to three because, well, food is important. There are countless watering holes in town, but few can deliver the goods in both food AND drink. It all starts with the menu. Not the size of the menu, mind you. I think a small menu goes a long way, especially in restaurants with small kitchens. You can bang out entrees and not befuddle your cooks with 200 menu items. Speed and efficiency in the kitchen goes up, and everyone is happy. I would say, however, that unless you're trying to be a gourmet sandwich shop, your burgers should 1.) not outnumber the other entrees on the menu, and 2.) not out-price the entrees on the menu. WR Tavern is guilty of the former, and close to being guilty of the latter. The biggest offender is the "Impossible Burger," named so because it is completely vegan and tastes "just like beef." A feat like that must be impossible, no? I think the true feat is requiring patrons to pay $14.50 for said burger. Listen, I realize vegans are treated as second class citizens these days, and sometimes it's deserved, but charging them the same amount it costs them to refuel their Prius each month for a wimpy, 4 oz. vegan patty is simply cruel and unusual punishment. But I'm a meat eater. And I'm still not wild about the food. Please tell me what in god's name is going on with the pork schnitzel. Schnitzel is huge in these parts, mainly due to the large population of German-Americans that settled here centuries ago, but so many schnitzel dishes are just watered-down, bastardized versions in the here and now. The pork itself was as tough and dry as a dog's chew toy. And the kluski was a soggy mess - just overcooked to hell. The saving grace is probably the seafood. Scallops in the Manchester by the Sea entree were cooked perfectly. Each plump scallop had a beautiful sear and was bursting with flavor. Sadly, ever other meat, including the chicken roulade, was overcooked and as dry as the Sahara. I highly recommend WR Tavern for a happy hour meet-up with your mates to toss a few back, but when it comes to the dining side of things, I suggest visiting one of the other numerous eateries dotting Penn Ave in the heart of West Reading.

Food and drinks were really good, the staff was extremely friendly and atmosphere is clean and comfortable. We'll definitely be back!

The three stars is because the beer I had was amazing. I mean off the chain amazing. It was like a cookie stout from a local brewery. It was $11 for the beer and a pizza. The pizza left a lot to be desired. It was actually pretty bad. Maybe the food on the regular menu is better. The pizza was just a special that day. Skip the pizza. Order off the menu. And enjoy the beer!

2 stars for the food 4 stars for the service ------------------------------------------- We went to the West Reading Tavern on a Thursday night right when they opened the dining room for dinner at 5 p.m. Upon entering the dining room, a server told us to sit where we wanted. West Reading Tavern's décor is that of an old English pub with lots of dark wood beams and some stained glass windows. The end result is a dark, drab setting with tired décor. Despite all that, the place was clean. We started off with our drink orders. I had a chocolate martini which was quite good and was the best part of the meal. My husband had a beer. Each meal comes with "button bread" which has poppy seeds and sesame seeds on it. The bread actually was very good and had a homemade taste to it. I asked the server if the restaurant made this bread. She said that it comes from a bakery named Selena's. At the time we went, they were offering some dinner specials to celebrate their anniversary. We both decided to order off the special menu. Soup and salad came with each entrée. I got a cup of onion soup and a salad while my husband opted just for the salad. The salad was good, if uninspiring and the balsamic vinaigrette was decent. The onion soup had a hearty beef flavored broth---not the best I've ever had but far from the worst. For my main course, I chose sea bass served on spaghetti with a scampi sauce, while my husband chose the Jack Daniels pork chops. The sea bass was properly prepared, thus it was moist and flaky. The scampi pasta was...different as I've never seen an item with scampi that didn't have shrimp in it. My husband said his pork chops were over cooked and not very lean as there was some fat on them. Service was quite good and attentive and our server was friendly. Even though the place wasn't busy, they kitchen was on the slow side. Before the tip, dinner cost $66 + change. We both left feeling like it wasn't worth that much money. Oh well...lesson learned. The bar is very popular with the locals. By the time we finished dinner, nearly every seat was taken. I don't think we'll go back here again.

Stopped here while staying in Reading for a wedding. The beer flights were so tasty! Would definitely go back if ever back in the area.

This may sound odd but today was the annual art on the avenue and I took my children for the first time. We were walking and my son, who's only 4, was fascinated by the guys breaking open the coconuts...and to my surprise the gentleman breaking them open warmly invited my son back to open one!! The look of absolute happiness on my sons face is something I will never forget!! After my son got the coconut open the gentleman even gave him the coconut water! I've never eaten here but if this is the way they show customer service I'm definitely going to be going to eat there!!! I just wanted to say thank you so very much for such a small gesture that made my day and my sons day!! I just wish I had gotten the gentleman's name so I could thank him by name and in person again for his absolute kindness!!

Located a bit out of the way in the Flying Hills golf course, but worth the drive. Sports bar- Eagles vibe w/ a decent draft list. The kegs weren't working (seems to happen at every bar we attend these days) but still enjoyed a Mike & Merrill Philly Hazy IPA. Wings a good size, crisp, you know, the way wings used to be before everyone started charging an arm & a leg & serving broken pigeon wings. Classic "Buffalo" sauce & blue cheese dressing were good. FINALLY tried famous Caramel Burger (which I missed several times at the Hamburger festival). It did not disappoint. Good size, flavorful patty, & what these people do best- the bacon jam & caramelized bacon. The sweetness of the onions sings thru. Order it! Husband ordered seasonal special Frikadellen/Bratwurst Smash Burger. Skipping right to it- the cottage fries. (Gracie's/Louie's if you had this all the time we'd have no beef! LOL) INCREDIBLE! Crisp, thin, tender, amazing. If you follow me you know I am over the frozen fries served at every eatery in this country. Finally, amazingly pleasant, genuinely happy, server- Reese. She was on my side throughout this whole foodie journey, even the beer & burger mishap (initially burger served w/o cheese sauce). She's a keeper! We'll be back & will spread the word! Till then, stay on your toes! Thank you Louie's for a great meal.

Fun restaurant and bar in the Reading, PA area!…read more My friends and I were traveling through Pennsylvania and we wanted dinner, a place to watch a football game, and good food/beer. We found Brewer's on Yelp and and were very happy with our visit. Brewer's had a local feel to do it and a lively atmosphere for a Thursday night. The food menu has a large selection of different types of food so almost anyone can find something to eat. Great selection of beer with a lot of regional offerings. Also seem to run a special for different types of alcohol for most nights of the week ($6 large draft IPA beer on Thursday night). I ordered the brisket meatloaf sandwich that came with BBQ sauce and gouda cheese on top. The sandwich was very tasty and I especially enjoyed the pretzel roll it was served on. I liked that I was able to substitute a side of perogies instead of chips. The moon ranch grilled chicken sandwich was a little underwhelming and the moon sauce was the only positive to that sandwich. The service was good and our server checked back in with us multiple times during our visit. There's also a beer outlet with a large selection of craft beer attached to the restaurant so you can take local craft beer home with you. They call themselves a small place with the BIG selection!

Our waitress, who chose to wear air pods, was crass and impolite. She was sarcastic in a negative way towards one of the members in my party about their drink choice. She also stunk of heavy cigarette smoke and was coughing all over the place. The food was nothing special - just standard bar food. However, the prices here are outrageous! Unfortunately, it's just not worth going here when I can go elsewhere and get a real meal, not just bar food. I'm actually sad that I have to leave a negative review. In the men's bathroom, the sink has next to no water pressure and they were out of soap. I wonder how the employees wash their hands... On a positive note, the food was served fresh and hot!

I mean I guess it wasn't that long ago, but it feels like a lifetime has passed in between. The bar that night was full of familiar faces. Groups of friends from both Wilson and Wyomissing neighborhoods had been unified with a common aspiration. After nearly two full days of agonizing rain delays, we were all about to witness the Phils bring the city of Philadelphia its first championship in 25 years (since 1983, before so many of us there that night were even born). This isn't Santino's of course, but it's impossible to separate those memories, which is probably the case for many of the folks still coming here who can remember fondly the mingling with family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. I'm glad this remained a restaurant and didn't turn into another spa or something. It's a bit harder to go to a spa and think hey I used to drink Jaegerbombs right over there by the koi pond and speaker playing soothing rainforest sounds. You can tell just by the sequence of naming conventions (from "Santino's" to "Tino's" to finally "State Hill Craft Cocktails & Kitchen") the kind of vibe they're going for here. The "Tino's" era, though brief, proved that you could keep the neighborhood charm and just slightly ratchet up the presentation, especially in the food and bar departments. Over time the menu has shifted from fine-casual Italian to more upscale comfort food, with wagyu meatloaf, lobster mac & cheese, and the always elegant, always dashing meatloaf patty melt. State Hill Craft Cocktails & Kitchen or whatever iteration of dining establishment will be there 15, 20 years from now (Luxe Carwash expansion perhaps) will bring together members of the community that wouldn't ever otherwise cross paths. New friendships will form, and old ones will strengthen. The atmosphere was electric that night in Santino's nearly 20 years ago. Everyone was elated, even people who didn't watch sports were happy because they could see other people were happy. For one night we could push everything else aside, the weight of responsibility and care lifted from our backs. A reminder that joy could be had, and our existences, though flawed, remained full of promise with even better days ahead. This is probably the least helpful review you've ever read LOL

One appetizer came out 20 minutes after that and then another 25 minutes after that the dinners came out. All in all... We didn't get any food for over an hour and 15 minutes. The wait staff and manager had no idea how slow everything was and we were the only table that ordered. Everyone other table was eating already. The ambience is OK... I'll be honest, I didn't know much about this place going in, but I'm really glad I went and I'll definitely be back. Walking in, the first thing you'll notice is a beautiful, large fish tank built right into the wall on your right. The restaurant is dim and upscale-feeling, but still very family-friendly and not loud or overstimulating, so you can actually have a conversation. They have both booths and tables, and the space is very open and spread out. As a parent, you can even strategically seat your family in view of the fish tank or the windows to give the kids something to look at. It's great for a casual family dinner, a date night, or even a birthday celebration. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible with no ramps, you can roll right in to your table. It's located in a plaza but set apart, so parking was never an issue. Plenty of spots, including handicap parking up front with just a short walk to the entrance. They have a solid variety on the menu including alligator bites, burgers, pasta, salads, and more. It is on the higher end price wise. Most entrees start around $14 and up, and even the kids meals begin at $8.90. The cocktail menu is extensive and the dessert menu is worth a look too. They also have a lunch menu where prices vary a bit more favorably. I ordered the Coastal Cheddar cheeseburger burger with no tomatoes and it was excellent. Very fresh, well seasoned, and served with shoestring fries that were equally on point. They also bring out a ciabatta loaf with butter to start, which was a really nice touch. Food came out quickly (always a plus). The staff is genuinely incredible. There's a tag team mentality where anyone on the floor can help you, refill your drink, or check on your table. My server was very attentive, and even when they got busy someone always stepped in. No reservations needed, at least when I went which was on a Sunday around 1pm. Highly recommend!

My husband and I assessed Austin's differently. He ordered prime rib which he said was nothing short of perfect. Cooked medium rare as requested, tender, juicy -- he savored every bite. I scanned the menu. Nothing jumped out at me. (I generally don't gravitate to steakhouse-type restaurants.) I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs. My point of comparison is Longhorn's which offers more of a bang-for-a-buck, and in my opinion better tasting ribs. Not to say that Austin's aren't good. They are. Based on the popularity of Austin's, it's clear management knows what they're doing. But I think a small salad and baked potato should be available with the price of the entree -- not worth the extra $7 I was going to be charged. The salad is listed as 'field greens,' -- which it's not -- but reading the menu you'll see they mean iceberg and romaine. The salad was good, enhanced by their garlic ranch dressing. We washed down our meals with well-priced drinks: merlot ($8.90) and Blue Moon ($6.90), then splurged on dessert. Austin's flourless double chocolate brownie a la mode is very rich. One order for two adults is plenty. Austin's is aptly described as a family restaurant. A lot of kids. A lot of noise. Service is friendly and on-the-ball. While not my kind of restaurant, if prime rib is your thing -- this could be the place!
