This is office seriously needs help with their customer service. They've been extremely short and unfriendly with our family. The doctor seems great but the front office staff seem to be constantly revolving and they really don't appear to care about your experience or whether you return for their services. To compound their service issues, they made the business decision to use this system called Klara, so you can NEVER CALL AND REACH A LIVE PERSON. Most all exchanges are over text so responses are delayed. And the exchanges take so long that the appointment you need is almost always gone by the time you try to confirm it. As soon as we are able to receive the contact lenses we paid for, we'll never return. And it's too bad, West Salem is in need of businesses. read more

My family started coming here a couple years ago after our previous optometrist messed up our daughter's prescription. They're always friendly and helpful, I've never had trouble with a prescription, and they offer additional services/alternative test methods which I appreciate since I don't tolerate a few of the standard tests well. My only complaint is that their lens prices are really high (although I supposed everyone's are these days). Thankfully, they're more than happy to provide a copy of your prescription, and you can order glasses online pretty easily these days. Just don't forget to ask them to measure and write down your PD. You'll need that to order glasses, and it's usually not on the prescription unless you ask for it. (which is almost always true) read more

I have been going to this office for a few years. This last time I had my exam and was measured for new glasses. It was the young lady's first day and very busy. When I came back to pick up my glasses they were wrong. The office manager told me I needed to adjust to them but this was not my first time with progressives. I came back they scheduled another exam the following week. The Dr said the prescription was correct they just needed to be remade. When I came back the glasses had same problem. I suggested that the measurements may be wrong, office manager disagreed. I ended up paying more out of pocket and went to another provider to get my corrected glasses. I was told the previous measurements were wrong. I was treated rudely by the office staff at sterling and they did not refund me for glasses that I could not use. read more

I had a great experience. Everyone was really amazing and helpful. I feel like they really cared about me and wanted to do their best to help me with what I needed. It's my first time getting progressive lenses and all of my questions were answered. It was just way above my expectations and I am extremely pleased with my visit. Right now during these very hard times I want to say Sterling/ West Salem vision has been wonderful. My mother is in a nursing home on lock down here in Lake Oswego. So when I heard she broke her glasses I knew how hard it would be on her with no family and now no vision! I called so many places and no one could get her glasses in less than two weeks. Finally her eye doctor suggested I call Billy at Sterling and they went out of their way to make her glasses (from her old perscription and a picture of her) and over night them to us. I really only go here for Dr.Glennie., he was my previous eye doctor at Shopko-great man. He himself would get a 5 star. Aside from that, customer service is not great at this location. I went in the other day and asked if I'm eligible to get my frames replaced (I wasn't sure with my plan and what not) Well, it was possible but instead of going ahead to order the frames the man helping me offered a very cheap and in my opinion ineffective way to repair the frames for the time being; Get rubber bands from an optical department and use them as a spring. A rhetorical question I have is, If I am able to order frames why send me away without actually helping me? Continuing my disappointment with today.. I had called to ask if anyone would by chance still be at the office if I had made it there past 5 due to traffic. I wasn't asking someone to say I was asking if anyone would still be there and I got a snooty response asking if I'm already on the bridge, saying she can't tell me if they'll still be in the office since she doesn't know for sure when I'd arrive kind of thing., I told her I'm just leaving from south Salem and would be on the way just letting them know with traffic going from south Salem to west I just wanted to make sure I didn't leave work an hour early, and drive all the way there for nothing..but that I will be there and while saying thank you in general, the women hung up on me. I did get my new frames, just popped the current lenses into the new frames paid and was on my way. Thankful for help at all but disappointed at how things got handled. read more

After moving to the area I was looking for a new optometrist and found one in Dr. Rossman and West Salem Vision Center. I live near this business so they were at the top of my list when searching for a Dr. in my insurance network. Despite not finding many reviews for the business I decided to give it a shot due to the convenient location. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. They explained what my insurance would provide and what would cost extra. I decided to get the Optomap done and Dr.Rossman showed me the images and explained what I was looking at instead of just saying everything looks good as I have had done in the past at other optometrists. Dr. Rossman also made some suggestions to help me with my eye allergies as he noticed some eye inflammation. I highly recommend Dr.Rossman and the West Salem Vision Center read more

I've always preferred the smaller practices when it comes to my healthcare. We chose Dr Rossman AND his staff originally because it was close to my work. That was probably 10 years ago now. My work changed but we are still there. We enjoy being recognized, asked how we're doing, has it been that long..... they all are very personable there. Dr Rossman had diagnosed me with Macular Degeneration a couple years ago. He recommended eating Kale as a supplement to help slow down or diminish the symptoms. I love Kale so eating it as a supplement wasn't a problem. Sure enough, we did another test a couple years later...macular degeneration symptoms diminished! Dr Rossman, West Salem Vision Center is not a big chain store with the great BOGO deals (let's be honest. At the end, are those deals really deals? I've tried a few of those "deals" and still walked out with a whopping bill). The last couple years Dr Rossman at West Salem Vision have provided affordable options for those with out optical coverage to stay competitive. read more

My 85 year old mother visited for new glasses. They didn't hold the rolling chair when she say down. She fell and broke her wrist. They were very unconcerned, cold and callous that she had been seriously injured. They were neglectful and uncaring. We may sue them. read more

Dr. Rossman's office was clean and modern with up-to-date equipment. The office staff was super friendly and I got right in to my appointment. Dr. Rossman took time to answer my many questions and patiently worked with me to find the best Rx for my contacts. He explained the differences between the brands so I could find the one that fit my lifestyle, and sent me home with samples to trial before I purchased them. He carries a nice selection of eye glass frames to fit any budget. I HATE picking out eye glasses and was amazed when I found two different styles that I love! First, for YEARS I have been looking for a place that did not treat me as a cattle drive going through a large vision clinic. Insurance forced me here...and I was apprehensive. It was what I was looking for: clean, friendly, small (one doctor but NOT in a small dingy place), the DOCTOR spent most the time with me rather then the aids. The reasons why I write this review as 1 star, undesirable, is for two different causes. One, because I work in the Health Care field (Salem Hospital, RN) and understand how patients should be treated and how insurance of this kind works with billing. Two, the principle of treating a patient/customer with respect and dignity at all times; which their front office is inadequate or incapable of doing. After receiving my eye exam, I have been in a never ending discourse with this office and their inadequate billing "system" (more like their inept lady who does the billing and reception). If it wasn't for the conference call that I had with my flexible spending company and a wonderful insurance company that has my back (shout out to VSP and Benefit Help Solutions), I would be out close to $300. Not only did this doctor's office mess up on their own documentation for my insurance company on the first visit (who I am asking to take this business off of their list of approved vendors), but they also refused to correct an error on a document from the second visit that was holding up my flexible spending account and insurance from paying. It wasn't until VPS and BHS spelled out, on a conference phone call that I set up, the normal protocol of billing to the West Salem Eye Clinic front desk lady that this issue has seemed to be resolved (Though I have to call both of these companies, AGAIN, to see if they received the fax from WSEC and ask for the correct documentation to be sent to me from VSP or BHS because I STILL DON'T HAVE IT! Folks, this all happened in the beginning of January and it is now mid Feb!). After this office was off of the conference call line, amazement was expressed that someone of this nature is even allowed to do the job of medical billing. Sadly, when you inform them of these issue(s), the West Salem Eye Clinic will either blame their "system"/the omnipotent IT Guy and when that fails they say that you, the customer, are the one at fault; all while rolling her eyes at you! I have never been so appalled by the rudeness and inconsiderate, unprofessional, behavior that this Vision Center is willing to allow. I will be informing my insurance company and telling everyone I know at Salem Hospital to never come here. I hope you listen to my warning because even IF this is the best Optometrist on earth, it is not worth the wasted time, heartache, and money. Lastly, a customer should never have to call their insurance and flexible spending companies for a conference call to inform an EMPLOYEE of a doctor's office on how to correctly complete their job. read more

I came to West Salem Vision Center one day when I needed an emergency appointment because I got bathroom cleaner in my eye (gross). My normal doc couldn't get me in but the receptionist here was SO nice. She moved things around to squeeze me in right away and I had the best experience. The Doc and staff were wonderful. He was real with me and said it would probably get better on it's own but if I really wanted I could go get some over the counter drops at Walgreens. He told me I didn't need to come back but that I could if it didn't get better in a few weeks. When I left they told me they would just contact my insurance and bill me later. They took care of everything. The whole thing was so easy. No one tried to upsell me on anything or push me to make additional appointments. They were truly just worried about my eye. One of the best medical appointments I've had in years. Needless to say I will be changing doctors and continuing care here. read more

Their prices for contact lens are quite a bit more than other places charge. Today I discovered that they over-charged my insurance by $70 three months ago. They kept it as a credit on my account instead of returning it to my insurance company, and didn't even bother to let me know about it. I won't be back. read more
