The nursery is open but you have to make a shopping reservation appointment to get in. It was really easy to make in their website and you can a confirmation email and text. They have a large selection of outdoor plants and supplies but on my most recent visit, I was shopping in their inside store where the indoor plants and gift wares live. They have a pretty nice array of house plants, like monsteras, and a bunch of succulents, air plants (tillandsia), and cacti. They have some hanging plants too so don't forget to look up! There are also lots of pretty artisanal ceramic pots in various sizes and colors. There were also terrarium supplies (like those glass globes that air plants go into). They also sell cute mugs and scarves and books and other plant-themes things that would make nice gifts. I also noticed a menu of coffee drinks (but i think that wasn't in operation but what a cute idea). I was able to find the perfect plant and pot that's going to be a gift for a friend. When I checked out, the cashier offered to repot the plant for me!! And when i said it was a gift, she put it in a box with tissue paper for me! She also checked for me the care instructions for the specific plant too! The customer service here is so friendly and amazing! Support local and support small business!

My huge Norfolk Island Pine in its new home.

I really love West Seattle Nursery. I stopped in recently to check and see if they had any Norfolk Island Pine trees in stock. They didn't, but they asked me if I'd like to be contacted once they do. So I left my info and let them know I was looking for a 10"+ size. Within a couple of weeks I got a return phone call about a large Norfolk Island Pine in stock and I was so excited to go pick it up. When I arrived, they had the tree set aside and it was gorgeous... AND HUGE! I had to take it home! They also helped me to the car with my new tree which was really nice. A huge 12" tree for only $90.

We have a large yard and parking strips with no lawn, just ground covers, trees, azaleas,…read morerhododendrons, etc. About 4 years or so ago we realized that we were unable to keep up with the weeding maintenance and also wanted to get help with pruning and other gardening tasks. Over that 4 year period, we had 2 different landscape services who came every other week and raked, ran the blower and did some weeding. The most recent landscaping service didn't really weed at all and after we were gone for a couple of months, we came home to a terrible weed problem, which we tackled ourselves in a number of areas. It was time to find someone new. We hired Essential Gardeners a little more than a month ago and we have been extremely pleased with their professionalism and attention to detail. The first major weeding task was to remove grasses from one of our ground cover areas that had been just getting worse and worse over the years even with the other landscapers supposedly taking care of it. Our 2nd landscaper didn't even touch it even though we asked him to just about every time he came (and when we were gone, who knows what he did). A crew from Essential Gardeners removed all of that grass and all of the rest of the weeds in our planted parking strips and after a month, we haven't seen a single blade of grass grow back. Pretty impressive! They also did some reparative pruning on a couple of cherry trees that our last landscaper hacked at and they purchased and planted new ground covers in an area we needed help with. They meticulously hand weed with real weeding tools (our other landscapers pulled stuff out with their hands when they did get down and weed, but mostly relied on their rakes, which has created hard packed areas where our ground covers just stopped growing into). Also, the raking by the other landscapers raked out new little plants we put in and broke off the sprouts of the old things we'd planted that come up in the spring. Suddenly, some of the ferns we planted years ago are appearing again! We feel very fortunate to have found Stefany and Kim, we love their cheerful gardening crews, and we love the work they've done for us. We've finally found gardeners who understand about hand weeding and do an amazing job of it. We look forward to working with them long term.

Based on such good reviews that they had, I contacted Essential Gardners and left a voice mail as to the help I would like. Stefany returned the call promptly the next day and was very attentive in her follow up communications with me to help shortlist some plant varieties that I might like, types of services that could fit what I was looking for and estimated costs associated with their services. Before the week of the services, Stefany also made sure to contact me again so that I knew the exact date they were coming in. The date of the service Stefany and team arrived on the date as promised and did such a wonderful job transforming my sadly looking garden into a lively one. I didn't even have to stay home to monitor them while they work..and upon returning from work..I was really happy with the job they have done. This is the first time I used Essential Gardeners to help me with a small garden landscape makeover...but as I am very impressed with their work quality, honesty, and attentiveness to client needs, I am actually using them help tend my garden on a regular basis going forward as well.

The shop was open and the staff members were lovely and helpful. I'm admittedly particular about flowers because my grandmother owned a floral shop in Seattle. I specifically asked for fragrant blooms, such as freesia or stock. I was told those were unavailable, but that they had some especially fragrant roses, so we agreed to use those. We gave them a $100 budget, which they respected. The finished arrangement was pretty, but the tall, vertical vase left much of the stems exposed, so the overall design didn't feel as polished as I expected for the price. My greatest concern, however, was the fragrance. The roses smelled strongly of an artificial rose fragrance, more like room spray, perfume, or detergent than the natural scent of fresh roses. When we presented the bouquet, the recipient's first question was whether the flowers had been sprayed with rose water. I cannot confirm whether anything was applied to the flowers, but the fragrance was extremely off-putting and did not smell natural to us. If naturally fragrant flowers weren't available, I would have preferred to be told that so we could choose something else or return another day.

THIS IS ABOUT ONLINE ORDERS…read more Really really disappointed about my online order because the plants at this place look gorgeous and I was looking forward to buying more but it's not worth $100 down the drain because they can't ship it right. I purchased two kokedamas (a small one and a big one) but my big one arrived in really poor condition. Stems and leaves were bent pretty bad during shipping and the plant looks likes someone used it as a soccer ball. I tried contacting the place for some help, they just said it was fine and to water it. It's been a few days, plant is still in shambles and they've been really unhelpful. I've tried a few things to fix it, but it took too much damage to get it back into shape. I posted the photo of what I ordered vs what I got just so people have expectations for online orders. I have a large collection of kokedamas and was really hoping to order more from this store to add to my collection because they look so pretty online. This was the only place where I've had a plant arrive in bad condition that I've ordered these plants from. imo it's not worth online orders at least Update: I did not receive any 10% off that they mentioned in the replies

I decided I wanted to make all my own centerpieces (25 total in 5x5 glass cubes I found on CL), my own bouquet, my bridesmaids bouquets, and all the corsages and boutonnieres the day before the wedding. Ambitious, but was completely doable with help. About 2 weeks before the wedding, I went to the stall and talked to Tong. I chose a $5 bouquet with various huge dahlias in reds, oranges and yellows (perfect lucky colors for a Chinese wedding!) and asked if he could make 35 of these. No problem, Tong replied with a friendly smile. The one day before the wedding, my BMs and I drove down to Pike at 8:30AM and picked up all the flowers, which were ready in boxes for us. All we had to do was take them home and cut them down to size and add water to the vases. If you have the help arranging, take advantage of the great resource of flower vendors at Pike Place. The flowers are freshly cut, already arranged, local, and prices are better than florists. Especially around peak wedding season in late August and September, dahlias in many colors and varieties bloom readily in Western Washington. Will definitely come back to Tong to pick up a bouquet for special occasions!
