My apartment manager (Shaffer Enterprise, LLC) hired this company to treat a bed bug infestation in the building. My apartment happened to share a wall with the unit that was the source of the problem. The experience was unsettling from the start. The crew arrived in an unmarked truck and walked into my apartment without knocking. When they realized I was inside, they turned around and left -- then told my manager I wasn't prepared because my plants weren't removed. Some of my plants are heavy and would have required extra care or assistance to move, but no one offered help or discussed options. When I left for them to do the work, I kept my camera on for peace of mind. At some point, they unplugged it, saying it was a "fire hazard." But left all other electronics plugged in and on. When I returned, I noticed a back-to-school gift card for my niece was missing. I can't say for sure what happened to it, but the entire situation left me feeling uncomfortable and distrustful. In my opinion, better communication, proper entry protocol, and respect for a tenant's personal property are essential in this line of work. I was extremely surprised to discover I had rats (Umm, cats? What up?). They ate my dishwasher hose, which caused it to fail irreparably. I also have termites. So, I called Western. We started out ok. James, the estimator, seemed like he knew what he was doing. Nice enough. High sales push. Here are my issues: 1. I was not offered financing. Which would have been really helpful, as they are expensive. Other service companys offer Blue Sky. 2. They did a great job blocking off access points, but only came once to check the traps. Never came back, despite me pointing it out. 3. The spot termite treatment was pointless and expensive. Told them it was ineffective, they never responded. 4. I requested a payment plan. Rather than talk to me about it, they sent me to collections. Collections? Really? I am paying them. I have since reached out to the estimator guy, who returned my call once, but refuses to provide me with customer service contact (they have since my service been taken over by Terminex). Now, he doesn't respond. I am incredibly bummed at the lack of customer service or efficacy of their work. Do Not Use Them. read more

I called and they said it could be a couple days, and O have still heard nothing. I talked to the church people across the street, and they had the exact same experience with this company. I requested service when I first moved into my home- they took a very long time to even come once they were there. I was told that they were going to do the circumference of the interior, which probably takes at least 20 minutes. I was working so my neighbor checked, and he was in and out in nine minutes when I called to complain, the manager yelled at me and was rude and more than a few ugly words told me never to call back and I said what about the bill and he said don't call back. The bill is fine. Well a year or so later I'm getting Bill from Collection Agency . I'm not sure what to do now I'm definitely not paying for no service. They were rude. First I have to say our sales man was GREAT, Westerns accounting is awful. Three months after having our house tented they contacted us for nonpayment . Our check cleared the bank and they still won't except it was paid. Pretty upsetting for a large check not to be recorded when received . I confirmed with Rep and yes he gave them check . I just emailed copy of check, just received a threatening email. I should let them come after us and just go to court. First of all why did they let this go so long!!! DON'T use Western. Paid 475.00 to treat a small area on my front slope for gophers. Probably, just one dang gopher. This was not a huge job as my front and back lawns are synthetic grass. Only a easy access slope. The company sent two guys (need two?) and they basically looked at slope for a few minutes, then sat in their truck for 20 mintutes then drove away. Was visited a few days later by another technician and he gassed a few mounds...maybe 2? Spent maybe 15 minutes. A few days later, more mounds appeared and I contacted Western Exterminater and they sent out same guy, with some help. This is for a 30 foot by 15 foot area....need two techs?? Anyways, they gassed again, about a week later more mounds...gopher not taken care of. So a week goes by and they tried poison. Still no luck. My main complaint is time spent per visit, maybe 15 minutes a visit. Also, they appeared to lack experience. i.e. identifying where to treat, etc. Bummer as the price was 475.00 for basically 3 'quick' visits....maybe a total of 45 minutes total treatment time over 3 visits. The last visit was never made, after they promised to come by and treat for last time I presume. So gopher issue not taken care of in the slightest. Cannot recommend. This is such a sad story. A friend hired Western Exterminator to do a heat treatment on his home. Western then hired Quality Pest Control without his knowledge. After the heat treatment was completed, there was significant damage to the home. Windows warped, flooring warped, TV's ruined, and the seams in the ceiling drywall are sagging, etc. He followed all the recommendations prior to the heat treatment and even had a representative walk thru the house to be sure he took everything out necessary. He is a retired elderly man and now his home is significantly damaged and nobody wants to take responsibility. After multiple communications with both parties, Quality agreed to replace the windows, and a few minor things, but not repair all the damages. Now, nobody will return any emails or phone calls. The damaged occurred on September 28th and my friend's house is still a mess. He has not been able to move anything back in, hoping one of these companies would do the right thing. In his last email, he asked for them to send their insurance representative out to the home to take a look. No response. This is so sad when people from both companies agreed the damage was from the heat treatment but nobody will do the right thing and pay to repair all the damages in this man's home. He has been misled that they were going to pay for repairs to later be told sorry it was denied. He has just been given the run around. He is an older gentleman and they are just taking advantage of him. This has been going on for way too long and is just wrong on every level!! I would like to encourage Western Exterminator to do the right thing and pay to repair the damage that occurred to this man's home IMMEDIATELY! A few days later I found a few ants where the problem was and called the tecnician directly and he was out that same afternoon. He took care of this problem for good. Update to latest fiasco. Inspection was performed in April 2023. Nothing was seen or detected. That said, we did not receive a full report to enable the sale of the house. So, another inspection was performed (again) one month later and now we supposedly have "active termite" damage. Go figure! And once again we cannot get a hold of anyone who can explain anything. I am very impressed with the service I received from Western Exterminators. They did an excellent job rat-proofing my house and recently when I noticed signs of possible rat activity, Mario came out right bright and early the next morning, located two areas where the genius rats we seem to have around here had found a way to break through and patched the areas up with cement to form a permanent barrier. He did a very thorough inspection and explained what had happened. Mario is definitely an expert in this field, so happy to have someone so knowledgeable on the job! read more

I've had a problem with Ants and spiders on my front and back porch including my children's play house - used other exterminator companies but the spiders and Ants just kept coming back- - western was recommended to me and Milton the exterminator explain the issue and solve my problem. HORRIBLE. NO WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS. I was given a 12-3 time frame of when the exterminator would come. I called them at 4:30 to see if they were still planning on coming. The admin told me they were but were running late. It is now 5:40 and still no call and no exterminator. This is not an ethical company. I contacted them because of rats in the wall. After inspection and quote of more than $2000 they proceeded with the service. They seemed to do a good job sealing all possible entries to the house and set trap in the heating ducts. Then the problem stated. I still had rats in my wall, they came pack, insisted all was sealed and set traps in a different heating duct. I still have rats in the wall scratching around each night. Now when I ring they just hang up on me! If I wait and go through the call center which takes forever either the person they says will ring back does not or the say they are switching me through to someone but instead hang up. It is one more than 2 months they have my $2300 and I still have rats. They had just dropped a customer who is in trouble and not honored their one year warranty. They are an unethical company and the appropriate authorities should know of this. read more

I am exceedingly unhappy with Western Exterminator. I was their customer for over 3 decades and I was treated very poorly when I discovered rats in my attic the day before Thanksgiving. I signed a finance plan with GreenSky offered by the Western salesman to pay $4000 to have my attic insulation removed and replaced. A subcontractor called Alliance Company required two trips to remove and replace the attic's insulation because they said Western Exterminator had under-estimated the volume of insulation needed. During installation of the insulation, workmen walked on my rafters, causing additional cracking in my ceiling. Alliance's supervisor of the workmen assured me after the second visit that I would be contacted by someone who would repair the damage. Western placed rat traps in my attic to see whether all rats had been eliminated. When I looked at my account online with the GreenSky, there were no charges to my account. I called Western Exterminator about this repeatedly and only once did someone call me and leave a voicemail saying he would get back to me to explain why there were no charges; he didn't. After I finally gave up and cancelled my existing regular service contract with Western Exterminator, the serviceman showed up at my door with a smaller, younger employee who could get into my attic and check the traps. He was unable to locate them, but left additional traps. No one has come to check them. I was pleased with a customer service representative at GreenSky when I called to cancel my account and learned charges had been billed to it on Dec. 31 and Western Exterminator had been paid. I had received a bill from Western and assumed they never billed GreenSky. The representative assured me Western had been paid and suggested I contact them. When I said no one there returned my calls in the past, she offered to call them in my behalf. The next day she called to assure me that Western told her they were aware GreenSky paid them and they never billed me! They claimed I was confused because they billed me for a regular $91 service. Believe me, I know the difference between a bill for $91 and one for $4000! Finally, a manager from Western came to view the damage to my ceiling. A man he brought with him called me a liar and said the cracks had been there prior to the attic insulation replacement. I told him some cracks existed before, but they had been greatly exacerbated by the workmen's activities. The manager said he would send someone out to repair some of the new cracks; he didn't. All in all, this was a distressing, frustrating experience. read more

I "WAS" an avid customer of this company. However, the last month has completely changed my mind. Around 10 years ago, I used Western for all of my pest control, at that time the SERVICE was Astounding and I never had to worry. In the last year my daughter had been using their services in Santa Barbara, paying for each time the exterminator came out, but not watching his every move as she works full time at home, has a 16 month old and a dog and a rabbit. Her hands and plate are full. Every time I would visit, I would want to go into the back yard and sit on the patio with the baby to read a book, play, have lunch. Yet, every time I attempted there were cob webs, all over the patio furniture. I couldn't tolerate it anymore and knowing how busy my daughter was, I offered to handle the issue. She wanted to cancel service with Western, I said "NO", I will handle. Well, after a month of trying to handle, I ended up cancelling the service. I spoke to the Manager of the Santa Maria office, which is where her original exterminator was assigned to. I suggested getting a exterminator from the Oxnard office as it was closer. Little did I know the exterminator from Santa Maria actually lived in my daughter's town, yet he always questioned her when he would call to let her know he was coming, to see if she really wanted service. The manager agreed and said we should get someone from the Oxnard office. Side note: I had to call the corporate offices just to get this entire process going as the manager didn't call me back when I first left a message. I dealt with a couple of people in the corporate office (Anaheim) and the one person whom was most helpful was Aubrey Rowe. She agreed to help and get a new exterminator to meet me at the home. I was told he was a great exterminator, by Aubrey. Since I had made friends with a couple of the "Ex-employees" of Western Exterminator, I contacted them to see what was going on, why service was so shady and non-existent. They both told me that Western had been bought out by a big Corporation and the employees just didn't care anymore and that the way things are done have changed. On this last Friday, (September 30, 2016) I met with the exterminator from the Oxnard location. Well, to my surprise it was a travesty of errors. First, he had left me a message that he would meet me at 10:00 a.m., he didn't show up until 11:00 a.m. Next we continued to discuss what needed to be handled. I told him all the areas that were of concern. We walked over to the trash can as my son-in-law had mentioned that there were spiders in the trash can. The exterminator showed me how the cob webs had built up in the inner lining of the trash can and there were two spiders (furry, gray and red dots) in the lining. He said, "Oh no worries, I will take care of them". After our discussion he said he was going to get started, I went back into the house and was playing with my Grandson. About 20 minutes later I noticed I didn't see him moving around the outside of the house, I looked out the window and he was gone. To check to see if he had done what he said he was going to do, I went back to the trash can. To my surprise, the spiders we had seen earlier were still in the trash can! I even noticed when coming back into the house that the front gate still had cobwebs on it. UGH! I felt so defeated, after weeks of phone calls, getting changes, dealing with holding on line, etc. This exterminator who had assured me and promised me I had "NOTHING to worry about", had left and not even handled the first item on the list we had discussed. I immediately, went back into the house (after killing the spiders myself) and told my daughter I was firing Western Exterminator, it was useless trying to give them another chance. I called Aubrey and she was very friendly, she apologized profusely and offered a credit for what ever possible service we did get. Overall, the ONLY person who followed through at Western Exterminator was Aubrey, because neither exterminator did anything but "talk" in my opinion. Buyer beware, make sure you are getting service from your exterminator as I think sometimes they just leave you a bill hoping you won't notice that service was not even done. I am not going to use any of the exterminators actual names as I do not feel that it would be appropriate, but I did feel the need to express my dealings with this Company that once offered stellar service. To update my post, Western Exterminator came out yet ANOTHER time after my previous post. They finally got rid of the ants, but while all of this was going on, simultaneously they had been leaving rat traps outside by our grill (and inside the large built-in structure outside). A rat had been caught and it smelled! I called them to come and get it, they said, "oh this is important, we will schedule an immediate pick up and have someone contact you immediately." No one called. I called the next day, informed them of the situation AGAIN. They said, "oh, we're so sorry! This is serious because a dead rat is a hazard! Let me call the district manager right away and have someone schedule a pick up immediately. We will call you back!" TWO days later, no call back!!! I called back a THIRD time! I said, DO NOT CALL ME BACK, my husband will remove the dead rat out of our backyard and do not ever contact us again! Cancel our contract with you immediately! Then, a few months later, they had the nerve to text me and ask me if I wanted them to come out for a service check! HA!!! Our neighbors just posted about this joke of a company in Nextdoor too! bad work, faulty accounting and TERRIBLE communication: are these guys even a business? We are in California and hired "Western Exterminator" which is now owned by Rentokill. Perhaps this is new, as we've been happy w Western in the past (20 yr ago). We hired for rodent (rat) exclusion and related attic cleanup. That was months ago. We still have rats so exclusion was poorly done in both the attempts they made so far. That's pending. The thing that is super frustrating is that the cleanup work, hugely expensive, was not done as expected. And no one can be reached. Ever. It is very much like these people aren't actually a business. We haven't paid our balance as we need to reach them re our issues. But no one of any authority or longevity with company can be reached. Late-in-day Friday call from "manager" from "restrill.cted" number... promising call back Monday. Nope... Twice... By the way: the billing amount is also wrong, as though they never noticed our (already cashed) deposit amount. Again: the accounting contact is only a voicemail with no human who ever returns call. read more
