9 1/2 years ago we had the best Amana 96% with Aprilair humidifier and ultra violent scrubber installed. I was so proud. The April air never really worked and they came out many times and never fixed it. At 6 year point the condenser made a loud noise and stopped, it needed to be replaced and the labor cost me 1500.00 I checked around and that was a lot. Recently at 9 1/2 the Furnace started making a gurgling noise and just started stop working. The first man that came out said it was a part and changed me 280.00 Labor to replace it. It didn't fix it, so he had someone else come out. The next man that came out was here for several hours a couple of times. I realized these young men wasn't HVAC Furnace men. I decided to ask around and my friend told me about a good Hvac Furnace man. He worked on the Furnace several times and it just can't be fixed. We have been without a Furnace for a month, thank goodness we have a gas fireplace that will heat the house. We still have 4 months on warranty but I just want it fixed. We are retired and and just can't handle all this. We are totallyreplacing the Amana with a Day and night. This experience been like fighting the tar baby. read more

Western Heating and Air was a decent company but now they're a sellout corporate company. I've been a customer for over 10 years. I had them service the heating unit they sold me because it was top of the line and I wanted to protect my investment. They billed me monthly for 12 months to come out annually to test my unit and make sure our furnace will be functional throughout the winter. I need better service! Bought a new furnace and AC from Western Heating and Air about a year ago. The Thermostat has never worked properly....Always at least 4 degrees higher or lower than the set temperature. They haven't been able to get the unit working properly on our warranty service calls. We had a tech scheduled to try again about 2 weeks ago. The tech apparently called in sick- that occasionally happens I get it. We were promised a follow up call for a new appt. which never happened. We called today (Saturday) to get a service tech out (It's 100 degrees today and 91 degrees in the house. The said they could get to us possibly as soon as Wednesday. We said, "Wow, that quick!" If you expect reasonable service from a company you paid $18,000 to this is not your company. read more

We pay the monthly fee for membership that is supposed to include a variety of services. We couldn't even get basic service last night in an emergency when our water heater was leaking everywhere. I called at 7:30 pm on a Thursday night and was told they could get someone out next Weds. This was a plumbing emergency and she clarified that was the soonest. Ridiculous. I called another company and someone was at my house within 25 minutes and saved us from having water damage in our carpet and drywall. Horrible service. Don't expect anything from them in an emergency. read more

Unfortunately I cannot give a positive review for this company. Their "Red Handkerchief Promise" is a hollow one. And even though I am a maintenance club member with "priority service," I am feeling abandoned. What makes this even worse, is my non-functioning AC was working fine until my scheduled maintenance appointment on Thu. By Fri. evening I realized something was wrong as my house was getting hotter and hotter. By all appearances it was a result from that maintenance call. Beware if you have trouble on the weekend. I called Fri. evening and was told there were no appts. until next Wed. (our state is in the middle of an excessive heat advisory). But he was hopeful I could be seen Sunday evening or maybe today (Sat.) The person on the phone today was polite but firm in that Mon. morning was the earliest she could try to get me in. Saturday was only for previously made appts. I asked if she could contact technicians to see if I could be squeezed in. She cannot. I asked if there is an emergency, does the customer have to wait from Fri. till Mon. for any possibility of help, and she confirmed that is true. I find that appalling and incomprehensible. Don't do business with this company unless you don't mind not having any help should your problem occur after hours. And if you don't mind a company not making right ASAP an issue they caused themselves. I am beyond disappointment. read more

In Summary: There are three possibilities. Either their tech was not very knowledgeable (I'm optimistically guessing this one), or their margins are too high, or the tech saw an opportunity to take advantage. A $500 estimate was more than double what a second company estimated as $200. The story... I originally called Western Heating because my furnace was short cycling (I strongly suspected a bad sensor). I asked if their tech had spare sensors in the van. They said he would. He came out, took a look, and diagnosed a bad sensor. He charged me a $50 dispatch fee (fair enough), but told me he would have to come back on Monday to replace the sensor and his estimate for that was $500. It's worth noting that the sensor was held in place by two visible screws and when I looked online sensors ran from $29-$129 (for the most expensive ones that were part of kits). The tech started back tracking his estimate as he noticed I was looking up prices on my phone. In the end I simply cleaned the sensor a minimal amount and replaced a damaged air filter that was pressing against the furnace (probably the real problem). It all works fine now and I saved $500. I checked with another company who looked up my make and model and said they would charge about $200 for parts and labor to replace the entire sensor/ignition kit in the future if I have a problem. read more

My service was scheduled for the following Wednesday, they called 30 min prior to arrival. They were vary knowledgeable and always addressed me by name, not Ma'am which is wonderful!! Western installed a new compressor in summer of 2015. Our old compressor and A/C system worked great for over 20 years until the compressor went down. Cost of a new compressor plus install was about $3,000. Since then things went downhill. In order to make the AC work they had to disconnect the heating. When we wanted heat we had to disconnect the AC. After numerous visits to figure out what was wrong, it was determined that the person who installed the compressor messed up on the install -- crossed wires, etc. I've had to replace blower motor, transformer and numerous other expensive parts plus labor that blew as a result of faulty install. So far I've had to pay about $3,000 additional and the system still doesn't work. Two weeks ago I had another service call to look at the system (still wasn't working) and it cost nearly $300! The tec said there were no guarantees that it would work. We got air for one day and then it went down again. The tec told me there was really nothing more to do. He said my blower, condenser was old and probably needed replacing -- more thousands of dollars What's confusing to me is the system worked perfect for 20 years until compressor went down -- so why now after new compressor with the same specs as old one system needs replacing -- especially after being told the root of the problem was messed up install of compressor. I guess the HVAC business is quite profitable. Keep charging customers to fix the mistakes the HVAC company makes -- yet never fixing mistakes and keep coming back for more. I must say in a positive tone that one of their techs, John, has been over many times trying to untangle their mess. On some visits I wasn't charged yet I just found out I have about an additional $500 I owe them for some of those visits. Just went out and bought fans to try to cool down house. Can't afford Western Air anymore. read more

I have used Western air several times. I have spoken to their staff and everyone from Jose, their installer to Ryan and Angie, the owners, are always friendly and helpful. I recently talked with Ryan and told him some of my issues I was having with my system. He didn't have to take the time to talk to me. He could have given my the typical response and said that he just needs to send someone out and charge me for it. Instead, he spent over twenty minutes talking to me about issues I have had and how to address it. Later, a friend of mine had his furnace fail in Lehi. My buddy had a kid at home. I don't live in Lehi and Western is in Orem but I called Western and asked if they could drive out there and help him out. Ryan personally answered my phone call and made sure my friend got taken care of. I have used multiple different contractors over the years but Western goes above and beyond. I know them well and would use anyone else for AC work in Utah. read more

Let's start with the good stuff. First off, there was enough to warrant 5 stars when we first started. The cost was low, the people were kind, friendly and open about what I'd be paying/getting with my purchase. That being said, let's get on to the bad stuff. When the furnace was first installed I followed all instructions on how to care for it for the first 24-48 hours, then it began making "BOOM" noises. I contacted the company and they came out to investigate promptly (thank you). The tech said it was just a loose wire. Two days later, same problem. Call again. Techs come back out and say that there's too many 90' bends in the pipes (why wasn't this noticed in the first place?) After they fix the bends they cut another hole in my house and another 3" hole in my houses main support beam. Now my power bill hasn't gone down at all (it's actually begun to rise) so I investigated and found that they haven't insulated the holes that they've cut through the wall and there's cold air just blowing in from the outside. I've tried to contact them again, but there's no support email, and now the website says that they only allow 1 submission per customer and I've already had to contact them 3 times so I'm S.O.L. and have to contact them on the phone (which is a pain seeing as I work night shifts and have to lose sleep if I'm gonna catch them) I'm tired of having to contact them for unprofessional work and, at best, will change this review to a 2 star if they come out and fix the holes that they've cut into my house, and remove the old pipe that they left from the first botched install. Edit: After spending a night thinking about the things I've said I've decided to raise it to a two star review. The people who helped were not rude or lazy. They have always been more than happy to come out (even when it was the the 2nd or 3rd time I've called.) and try to fix the issue. The rest still stand, and I'm displeased with the lack of quality craftsmanship that has gone into this install, but I don't want to throw them under the bus completely. Final edit: After seeing the review they were nice enough to contact me and try to make amends. A tech came out quickly and patched up the place. Shelbee and Eric came to my office to repair our A/C after it had been out for 3 days (over the weekend and then a holiday). I called them in the morning and they promised to send someone out at about 5pm. I was pleasantly surprised when they called at 1:30pm asking if they could stop by immediately. I was impressed with the efficiency and knowledge that they worked with. I could tell they were well educated on the equipment and how to get it working. They fixed many of the problems that my last HVAC tech created, and got my system back up and running. I purchased a maintenance package with them so that I could get annual tuneups by them again. We chose Western for our new HVAC system install because of their sales rep and their reviews. Don't let that fool you. We paid a lot of money for a completely new system to be installed to have issues with it in under 48 hours of the install being complete. The first issue we had was that our ceiling started leaking water out of one of our light fixtures the day after the install. We called and they sent a tech out to fix the issue that night, however there is water damage to the ceiling now that they wouldn't fix. The next issue was that none of the new vents that were installed were actually secured to the ceiling at all. The vent covers were screwed in through only drywall. Another issue was that they broke the molding around the attic entrance and damaged the trap door to the attic entrance. During the install of one of the new vents in our kids room they ran into issues cutting the hole for the vent and cut the hole in a different area, but didn't fix the area they cut first properly. I called and had their supervisor come out to show and explain all of these issues to them. After this they scheduled another appointment and redid the whole install due to it being done wrong on pretty much everything. They fixed all of the major issues, however they wouldn't fix the ceiling where the water damage is. They fixed the molding however it looks terrible and their fix was that they would just fill the gaps with silicone. They wouldn't fix the trap door to the attic entrance though and gave the explanation that they didn't know how it happened. The HVAC system has had fault codes ever since it was installed. The one that is always active is Blower Motor Outside Limits, there is another one that is only intermittent and just randomly comes on which is Low Pressure Switch Open. The excuse for not fixing the cosmetic issues is that they are not master carpenters. When I asked them if they would be ok with it in their own home the response was no. I'm not sure why it's ok in my home then. I have attached pictures for all of the current issues that still have not been fixed. Whenever the fan runs for the HVAC system the house smells like the attic as well which it didn't do with the old system. This install has been my worst decision I've ever made to date. I hope they correct their issues so I can rate them at least a 3 star. *Update* They cam out and repaired most of the system, however the system is still broken. We have had multiple appointments since this review was originally posted. Today I came home from work to the newly posted picture. We had the air from our attic pouring out of the access door into our house. This is an absolute joke. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. I've never seen a company in their industry provide the kind of service guarantee they do. We had our new HVAC installed by them in September of 2015, and their guarantee got them out to our place when a regulator stopped working and froze up (literally), which isn't even a part that most contractors would replace for free, but they did. They care about their work, and every technician of theirs I've spoken with really enjoys working the work environment and the guarantee. I could go on, but I think getting them out to your home would be proof in itself of their quality and professionalism. read more

We thought we were getting a great after hours service when we came home one night and our heat was out, they didn't charge a lot for an after hours call and came right over, but after working on it for a couple of hours and charging 400$ it still didn't work the next day, called another company and the minute he walked in and saw the furnace he diagnosed the part that needed to be replaced which was 82.00$ I have emailed this company with no response to my complaint, I do not recommend ever using this company! read more

Ripoff report - These guys take advantage of anyone not familiar with HVAC replacement components. I was charged $253 for a $12 capacitor, a 20x markup. They wanted to charge me $600 for a $120 fan motor. Not sure how these guys can wake up in the morning and feel good about their business model. Run from these guys. read more

$217 to replace a capacitor (normally less than $40 and easy. I have done several. Another $217 to replace the disconnect. $20 part at Home Depot. Another $217 to clean the air handler coil...listed as Easy on the invoice. Did give a small discount and deduct the service call charge because I got a 2 year maintenance plan for $120. Total ended up being $723. Not cheap but unit is working again so have to appreciate that. read more

I have been using Western for a few years now. They are large enough to be professional and cover all your needs but still small enough to give you personalized service. I had them move my AC unit last year and they did an excellent job. Just had my AC tune up this morning. They are very thorough and always have friendly staff. read more

These guys are great. My AC condenser unit went out in the middle of July. Talk about hot! They were able to get me in two days later, which was much quicker than anyone else around and the job only took about 30 mins. Blown capacitor. In order to make my water heater code compliant Jim S. had to rebuild the old venting system. It was a tuff job that required a lot of part fitting and dirty work! We were on a very limited time frame when visiting our Provo Canyon cabin. Bre Hardman at WH&AC took our call and rearranged schedules to get a skilled technician (John Breivik) to make a service call that same afternoon. John is a knowledgeable and expert technician; he diagnosed the problem (a leak in two connecting lines that feed our oil burning furnace) and fixed the problem in less than an hour. John had previously solved a problem in October when the furnace quit operation due to a faulty switch. On this visit, John again proved his expertise as he quickly diagnosed the problem (replaced the switch) and also serviced the furnace to ensure everything was in working order for the winter months. We highly recommend WH&AC service as we have always found them to be responsive, professional and with excellent technical skills. read more

I requested a diagnostic for my heater that went out. It was $49 so I said what they heck why not. The guy came out. Got a text he was on the way didn't show up for an hour after saying he was on the way (which I think is a attic they use... I'll get to that). I say I have to get back to work cause I just wasted my whole lunch waiting when it was suppose to be a break. It gets WAY WORSE... I go back to work then get a call they found what was wrong. I supposedly need my flame sensor, ignitor and furnace capacitor and it's some "package deal" for $300. It doesn't make sense because two of the 3 things were just replaced in 2017 so I say I have to think about it because I feel like I'm getting cheated (which I was). I call a different heating and air place they do the diagnostic for $29 and replace the flame sensor all out the door for $161. The crazy thing is a stayed with the second guy and he went over everything with me and checked the 2 things that "needed" to be replaced and they were "basically brand new" one was suppose to read at 7.5 something and it was reading exactly at that. The guy from western heating and air also tried to pressure me that I wouldn't get this deal unless he did it right then and there. He is shady, if you ever call them make sure you are there watching everything they check and make sure it's actually bad because they will lie and cheat you out of money. Please do better this is sad to see. read more

It is unfortunate that I have to write this review. My upstairs AC system was not cooling and had frost build up on the insulation line going into my unit indicating either low Freon or a bad coil. I used Yelp to set-up a request for an HVAC technician to come and give me an estimate on repairs. Western H&A was the first company to respond and was very professional over the phone. A time was setup for the technician to come to our home and Justin arrived on time. He was extremely nice and professional. After spending some time looking at our system (which is a 9 year old, 13 SEER, 2.5 ton, Lennox unit), Justin stated that there was a leak and it was 2lbs low of the old R22 Freon. He stated the following three options: 1. Refill the system with R22 and put a "dye" in system, return in 3-4 weeks to see where the leak was originating. Cost: $500 ($49 for the diagnosis, $90 per pound of Freon, and $270 labor). 2. With our system being an "OLD" unit and using the non environmentally-safe R22 Freon, it could be at least another $500 if its an easy fix to the outside unit. If it was an issue to the inside unit it could go up significantly from that point. Not only would we be replacing parts (which could be in the $1000s), chasing leaks, but we would have to re-charge the Freon at $90 per pound and still have an OLD unit at the end. 3. He then gave the option that since R22 was going to be illegal to use in the future, he recommended for us to replace the system completely so we don't add to the depletion of the ozone layer with our leaking OLD unit. Since our system was a "nice" unit originally, the estimate he gave would be $3500-5000. I told my wife the night before that if we get a "scare" pitch with a suggestion to replace our entire system we would get a second opinion. I told Justin that this is what we were going to do and would call him back if the 2nd opinion validated his assessment. This is when Justin's demeanor went cold. He did recommend replacing the filters in our two units at a cost of $10 each. I agreed and my wife paid him. Thankfully, my wife went downstairs to check on the unit right after he left. She found that he had not put in a new filter and the cover was not replaced. She ran out and found Justin still sitting in his truck. She told him he forgot to put in the new filter. He apologized and went back in the house, went downstairs, then came back up and apologized again and left. When my wife went back down again, the filter was half sticking out of the unit. She was able to seat it properly but was amazed that he left it in that condition. Follow-Up: We had a 2nd HVAC company come in today. He ran a leak test, used a "sniffer", checked the compressors, found a couple of loose fittings outside and serviced both our AC units. He was there about 2 hours. One required 2 pounds of Freon and the other required 1/2 pound. Total cost for the service call, Freon, and service to both units? $435. He checked the temperature of the air ducts after servicing and said you look for a 20 degree temperature drop from the setting of the thermostat. Ours was reading 24 degrees lower at the vent. He said our system is in great shape and to call him in 8-10 years when we need a replacement. We will definitely be calling him. read more

Sunday was the second time we've had the need for fairly urgent AC repair, and once again Western Heating and AC provided excellent service. Technician Justin was prompt, friendly and clearly explained what the problem was. Repair was completed quickly and we were able to work out a great price that included preventative maintenance on both AC units and furnaces. The discounted pricing essentially offset the price of the off-hours call. I cannot imagine using another company for my HVAC needs. read more
