Local hardware store that has most of the essentials. Been very convenient in a pinch. I've had mixed experiences with the customer service. I've had really helpful gentlemen at this store (both young and old) help me out with various project questions and issues I've had. Even had them go in the back and fix a couple things for me which I was extremely grateful for. However, the last time I was there customer service sucked. It was all women. I stopped a young girl and asked very politely if she knew where WD-40 was. She said she had no idea and took off. I was kind of flabbergasted, and I just assumed that she went to go ask someone and would find me to let me know. Nope, she literally just said no and took off. It was so bad customer service it was almost funny. Then the cashier who rang me out was whatever. Chit chattin with another employee right there bitching about something work-related right in front of me. Just wasn't the best experience this time around. Overall, it's a convenient hardware store so I'll continue to return if it need something. There are no other hardware stores in Princeton unless you want to count Walmart. read more

Paid $250 to have my insurance updated so I could sell for the "Westlake Group". Went through a rigorous check to get onboarded. Delivered my first order in January and still have not been paid. Its now August. Store manager tried to help, but corporate office doesn't pay their bills. They take advantage of small businesses. I buy everything every year from there. There biggest stilh trimmers, back pack blowers, chain saws, coolers, even paint, and of course close to $600 in fertilizer. As I saw, read the signs on the floor "this way to pick up orders" I followed them to the back doors where I pick up my order every year and knock on the door. With one foot in the door I asked a lady clear down to my left about my order and she "snapped" instantly at me. Little punk with entitlement I told her I simply followed the signs on the floor. She said "I don't care what the signs said. You need to go to the front. So I certainly did go to the front. I canceled my order. Never again will I set my foot in there. Bought grill online, delivery scheduled never showed up or called as a courtesy, next they said the grill would be delivered, waited all day, no showed again. When I spoke to a manager, no remorse, no apology, no customer service. Asked for a refund. Manager was rude and uncaring. Don't go to this Ace Hardware. It's a small shop, but they have a decent selection of items. I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for but they had many other viable options. The staff was friendly-ish. The cashiers at the front will greet you, but if you're looking for help from any of the guys wandering around, you won't get it. Also, it's super mucky inside to the point where this big ass fly will harass you out of nowhere. That lil bugger definitely made me leave sooner than I wanted to. read more

Bought a masterbuilt 560 yesterday from home Depot... went to the academy sports store in garland and in Mckinney trying to find B&B charcoal briquettes and of course none... all out... went to Mckinney ace to see and I couldn't find any.. also was looking for a magnetic telescoping tool to get any dropped bolt washer or nut... spent 25 min going up and down every isle looking For that and for my charcoal... never could find anyone working there except at front checking people out. Went to Mckinney location to see if they had part. Nothing was in right bins. Very disorganized location. No employee could help, had no clue what we were talking about. I bought a grinder and had some issues with it . I call the next day to talk about exchanging it. A girl by the name of Alayna answers the phone she said hey how can I help you. I answered back with hey how are you doing today. She responds with excuse me how can I help you. Explain that because I am polite I was simply asking how she was doing before engaging in the conversation. She is very rude unprofessional and clearly has no manners. I've never had an issue with this location before. Hopefully they fire her so she can go back to working at McDonald's or wherever she came from. read more

Wanted to support Ace Hardware. Used to work at one years ago. Went in to the McKinney location today to purchase a Treager grill. They've got free assembly and delivery this week. Several employees standing around and none of them offered help as I was looking at the grills. The one guy I approached acted like he didn't have time for me, no one else said anything to me and I was told I should go up to the front. I did and went right out the door. Ace is known for their customer service but they failed miserably and lost a customer and a sale. read more

How is it that the HD has put this place out of business yet? A generation behind in technology and reliability, sadly stuck in the 1970s. HORRIBLE online ordering experience. First I ordered an item, completed the order. Later on it told me the items I wanted were not available, but wouldn't let me cancel the order. Ordered another item, and told it was available for pickup. When I went to pick it up , they said it couldn't be looked up by last name. So I gave the employee the order number and he couldn't find it that way either. I showed him my email with the 'available for pickup', he said he didn't have it. I had to cancel the order myself, still waiting for a refund. The employee, Dave, said I shouldn't be upset because it happens all the time. Nice. I needed spare keys for my Chevy Cavalier (no Chip). I went to Walmart and then to Lowe's to get them cut. Both had the blanks and cut them well, but the key only worked in the door lock. The ignition was sticky and wouldn't turn without a LOT of jiggling. My Dad suggested I try Groom and Son's hardware in McKinney. I did, and the gentleman there assured me it would work perfectly or bring them back and he would make adjustments to them until they did work. He looked up the key to assure the correct blank, made a difference, and then expertly cut my keys. Both work fabulously! I can't be happier. No more sticky keys... Groom's has that personal service lost by the big chain stores. If they don't have it they can get it. read more

Needing a longer bolt for a bicycle and a longer strap for a bike rack, I decided to save time by going straight to the helpful hardware man. Big mistake. After waiting 15 minutes by the helpful hub, finally three employees emerge from the back. The third one acknowledged me waving at them and attempted to help me. The problem was he seemed to know nothing about fasteners and had a hard time keeping his thoughts straight like he was high. I gave up on the bolt and asked for something to join two rubber straps (with holes running down the middle) together. He said the best thing he could think of is tape. Rather than kill somebody with a bike attached to the back of my car with tape, I decided to take my business elsewhere. I don't have any plans to return. read more

Absolutely the best service you will find. There are nice old guys standing at the front waiting to assist you. They have a great selection and a lot of things you won't find at the big box stores. They've got the greatest selection of nuts/bolts you will find. Don't even both with those big box stores for that stuff. There's free popcorn in the back too. My husband and I have used this store for small things for years and the service seemed fine---then this Labor Day wknd, they had a sale on Benjamin Moore Paint that was advertised as being good thru Labor Day---I arrived at the store at 4pm on Labor Day to buy $300 worth of paint and there was a small sign on the door that said they had decided to close early (at 3:30p) that day---I could see them inside, but the door was locked--so I felt sure they would still honor the sale price the next day. But I was wrong---when I arrived on Tues. and explained I had been there at 4pm and asked if they could honor the sale price (a 'huge' $5.00 off per gallon), the staff said only the Manager/Owner could approve that---the Manager/Owner then told me the sale ended when they closed on Labor Day (though they had closed 2 and half hours early) and that was that...no apologies or efforts to show they valued the customer. I went ahead and bought the paint and was Overcharged!! ---I had to return to the store again the next day to get a refund----this store is unfortunately not the friendly store it once was... read more
