You're not allowed to bring in food or drinks because they sell those items inside, and they also probably don't want you bringing in anything that isn't permitted. They had plenty of staff working the event, from security guards to ushers, helping people find their seats. As for the ambience, the place was well-decorated throughout the inside it was actually really nice. I would definitely recommend it if there's a show you want to see and it's being held at the Civic Arts Plaza. Don't hesitate to buy those tickets just be aware that you'll probably have to pay for parking.

It…read morewas billed as someone in a costume will come out, engage the crowd, and there will be a sing along etc. The lady came in a costume, spoke to the audience for maybe 10 seconds, and then just played the movie! That's it. I basically paid $120 for my wife and kids to drive 1 hour to see the movie, when I could have played it at my house. My wife calls me, furious. So I call the box office...they told me as a 1 time courtesy, they will refund me in 7 business days. It's been almost a month. I received nothing. So I called them just now only to be told I won't be getting a refund. The rep even acknowledged there were a lot of angry people. I encourage everyone to do a chargeback on their cards if you attended. It was straight up theft. $120 to play the little Mermaid Movie. And then the box office lied to me about the refund. This is how they billed it " Make a splash with an unforgettable, family-friendly event where you become part of the story! Sing-Along Live! brings Disney's beloved classic The Little Mermaid to the big screen with on-screen lyrics, audience participation moments, and a wave of musical fun for all ages. This event will be hosted live by our costumed Mermaid Princess." When in reality they just played the movie. Shame on the production company, and shame on the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza for letting these people scam everyone.

When you come around the corner and get that initial glance of the theater your heart skips a beat at its allure. It's an (all volunteer) community theater. It relies on volunteers and donors to keep it operating. In 2019, it is celebrating 61 years. They're doing something right. The 2019 season has some great shows lined up. Just passed was To Kill A Mockingbird and Sweeney Todd. Currently showing is Disney's original movie adapted for the stage, High School Musical. Coming up is Avenue Q, Proof, Much Ado About Murder, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Pippin and more. Check their website for dates and times. There isn't a bad seat in the house. It seats 185. If you have yet to see a production at this endearing, little theater, I urge you to find a show you'd like to see and not delay any longer. Buy tickets and go!

The Hillcrest Center is part of the Park Districts facility, tucked up on the hill. I had never been there before, and there is construction, and other challenges to getting to the facility, such as the entrance is on a side street, not on Hillcrest itself. But you will be glad you make the trip. Classes there are put on by the Conejo Recreation and Park District, and include classes for young musicians, and the opportunity to also review an art exhibit on premises. Sam Herbert as Evan, Carly Shukiar as Patrice and Antonia Vivino as Lucy had exceptional voices and terrific stage presence. Yet, along with these key roles, every single cast member could sing, dance, emote, act, and wow the audience with their talent. What my boyfriend and I continue to say to one another is, "Wow,,, the!se are only kids,,,, young people,,,what will they be like as adults? They can't get much better than this?" We recently treated our six year old granddaughter to her first live theater experience here for…read morethe performance of "Annie". We hoped that she would enjoy it, and indeed she did. It was so sweet to have her alternate at times from laying her head on Dear Hubby's shoulder and then mine. Sometimes she would sit up tall and lean forward at certain times in the show. After, she said, "I want to stay until the next one", thinking that the cast would be doing a second show right away the same day. She doesn't yet realize how much energy and effort goes into a performance like this, but I loved the positive reaction. The theater, while small scale and local, nonetheless does a great job of putting on entertainment which captivates their audiences. It's a blessing to have this venue close to home, away from the hassles and expense of going into L.A. Ticket prices are reasonable, parking is free, and the staff is friendly. The large cast managed to sing, dance, and act their way through a beloved classic musical on a smallish stage and made it work. Kudos to the visual technology that makes set decoration a new type of visual art. We're looking forward to seeing "Footloose" at the Arts Center soon.

Cool photo ops all around. They had a trivia game scrolling over the bar which is always fun. Lots of lounge seating great for smaller groups to drink and chat. That being said there were some things I didn't anticipate and wasn't prepared for: -not enough accessible parking very busy for a Friday night. When I arrived at 6:45pm valet parking was already full -no AC in the venue- two ceiling fans. It was unbelievably hot inside. -seating at the tables near the stage requires dinner service and there were 10 adults seated at an 8 ft table. Just impossible. The tables were end to end. No space to move. I was seated between two men and our shoulders were touching and everyone is trying to eat dinner. I was having a panic attack so my friend got us moved. -the meal was ok and so were the drinks. We had to purchase dinner and 2 drink minimum in addition to the price of the concert ticket. I knew this when I made the purchase but had no idea what the food was going to be like. - my meal was blackened Salmon. Which was good but a very small piece of salmon. The garlic mashed potatoes were ok however my veggies weren't steamed they were too hard. The entree was $42. No salad, bread or dessert option. I think this was very pricey for what I received. Despite what bothered me above. I had a great time after we moved our seats away from the stage and got to finish our meal with some elbow room. There isn't a bad seat in the entire venue so I am not sure why they cramped all the tables like they do. The space allows for lots of walking around so you can visit with friends- which I did. The venue is accessibility friendly. The entertainment was amazing and I have to mention all the staff working that night were very accommodating. They checked on me a few times. The staff Zoe, Ryan and Marco were all so very helpful. Including Robin the sound engineer-he was friendly as well. I will return if another act I want to see is playing at The Canyon Club. Now I know what to expect and can plan accordingly.

Before my most recent show, it was a venue I looked forward to visiting. However, it had been a bit of time since I was last at the club and things have changed. Unfortunately, after the show I attended on July 31, I may not be back. Please note that this review is for the venue only, not the show itself. While there is a large parking lot, and parking is free, it was very difficult to find a space. We drove around for about 15 minutes before we were able to see someone leaving a parking space that we could grab. On the day of the concert, the temperature was 100° F outside, or possibly a bit higher. When we arrived at the venue, we found that it does not have refrigerated air conditioning - just some fans. It was uncomfortably hot inside. If I had known this would be the case, I'd have brought a portable personal fan. It's hard to believe that a venue that holds up to 1,200 people does not have legit air conditioning. For those that would like a seat, you have to purchase dinner along with your concert ticket. The dinner selections are very limited and pricey. There is no longer drink service at the tables, so you must head to the bar for drink orders. Since the tables are packed so tightly together, this is not the most convenient situation for patrons. Also, if you use a credit card for your purchases, you will be charged an extra service fee. The bartenders Gus, Zack, and Lindsay were great. They provided friendly service and were a lot of fun. I felt bad that they had to endure the uncomfortable hot working conditions while taking care of everyone. I rarely leave a one-star review. It is really a shame that the club owners don't value their guests and artists to keep the venue comfortable. For the price of tickets, food, and drinks, we really deserve a better experience.
