I'm not sure why this place doesn't have a higher rating. It's neat and decently clean. Look at my pictures. Could it be even cleaner? Sure, but I don't think it's fair to compare Asian grocery stores to huge national chain markets. If you want that kind of market, then I think you should be prepared for that kind of pricing. Many people come to these markets not only because they offer many items that you can't get elsewhere but also because of the pricing. Speaking of offering specialty items, I appreciate that I can find items here that I can't find at Korean or Chinese markets - frozen chopped lemongrass, Coco Rico, multiple brands of fish sauce including Red Boat, live crawfish, etc. This market certainly caters to a more Vietnamese clientele. It's a huge market. The seafood section could be set up a bit nicer, but I do appreciate that they offer to cook your fish if you want. You do have to hunt for items a bit sometimes. They may not always be in the aisle you expect to find them due to limited shelf space. So, you might find something on an end cap, the front of the store, or some other aisle. read more

I prefer buying meat elsewhere as it's not the cleanest here but tons of other people I know like to buy their meat here. This is a huge grocery store that specializes in Asian products and they also offer fresh seafood and fresh meat market area. They also offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables not normally found in the more mainstream grocery stores. The aisles are wide and the store is clean. Prices are good overall. The problem, however, is in the checkout experience. Everyone is nice but for whatever reason, the lines move very slowly! It can take you 30 minutes to checkout with an average of 4 people's checking out per register and that's with everyone on line having an average amount of groceries in their cart. read more

This place have gone down hill with their service. It has been my favorite market I go to for the last 10 years until my recent experience today. The seafood services area people need training on how to provide the quality customer service. I came here around noon today and there was people lining up waiting for the seafood services either fry or clean their fish. There was two Mexican guys and another middle age Vietnamese guy working at the seafood area. They don't seem to want to work there. Especially the Vietnamese guy just took off in the middle of helping someone not saying if he turning back or get additional help. I literally waited for 30 min to get the hep just to pick and weight the lobster. I asked them I need help to get the lobster cut in pieces. I've been here many years and familiar with their policy. To cut the lobster you first need to pay it thwn bring it back for the guy to cut it for you with your receipt showing it was paid. I went to pay for the lobster and grabbed a few bottles of hair dye products. The cashier at stall 1 was helping me . I grabbed the 3 bottles of hair dye and trying to pay for it along with the lobsters. The Cashier gave me the weird look and tell me the hair dye shampoo is $40/each. I told her ok. After bringing up my items, I turned my cart trying to get back to the seafood area so I can get my Paid lobster cut in pieces but the cashier tell me I cannot return back in the store. She literally said " you already paid you need to get out not return back to the store ". I said yes I paid and have receipt in my hand and need to get the lobsters cut as I normally do and per your many year policy you provide that free services. She insisted it's their policy once you paid you cannot return back to their store. I honestly think this Cashier lady need to get training or either that she need to get her brain check. That's insane for her to say that the store policy! If You're planning to go shop here remember your list of items cause once you pay you cannot go back to the store to shop for more if you forgot something !. Or just do your self a favor cut all these BS services at this market and go somewhere else. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: I came here for the mock meats and stayed for the impressive array of produce and other goods. I've been going to Korean and Japanese markets for decades, but I'd never really been interested in going to a Vietnamese market until i decided to go vegetarian. After getting the tip from a friend that Vietnamese supermarkets had a great selection of mock meats, I decided to take a gander and was not disappointed. There is a whole frozen aisle devoted to mock meats and vegetarian products that was like discovering Ali Baba's cave. All those intriguing and mysterious ingredients from my favorite vegetarian and vegan Viet restaurants can be found here! Everything from "chicken ham" to "seafood" balls and everything in between. It's a nice change of pace from all the Impossible, Beyond, and Gardein stuff (although I love those too!). I also started getting rice paper, rice noodles, produce and herbs to make my own spring rolls and noodle salads, and they have a great selection of vegetarian sauces to go with those too. This is where I go to buy Asian Groceries. Convenient location, reasonable prices, and it beats having to drive all the way into Little Saigon to get produce...and this location is closer to me than having to drive to Irvine for 99 Ranch. You can get almost anything you want when it comes to asian cuisine, particularly Chinese or Vietnamese food. What's great is that this plaza also has a roast duck bbq store, Lee's Sandwiches, and a bakery nearby too. Asian fruit and vegetables are super cheap here (usually when in season). We stopped by here not long ago while in SoCal. It's like a Viet super Wal-Mart. They have groceries, clothes, costume jewelry, dishes etc. I got some cute high heels for $20. American size 8 is not common here just fyi as they run in small. Lots of goodies to choose from especially if you're buying gifts. They have a little bit of everything here. We planned to cook Rabo Encendido (a cuban oxtail stew) today, so we came here for some of the ingredients and some other goodies. Oxtail - Not a bad deal at $4.99 per lb. It is nicely packaged too. For the most part, the meat dept is pretty organized and clean As for the produce, it is ok. Some veggies are really fresh, like most of the green asian veggies. However, the fruits like oranges, plums, apples look a bit tired. You can be adventurous and get Durian, jackfruit, papaya, fresh longans... They have good deals on mangoes. A box of 16 Champagne mangoes for $ 12.99. Not too shabby. Really you can wander thru this market and see all the imported goods from Southeast Asia and China. It is impressive. However, I stay away from foods containing preservatives - icky. Read the labels carefully if you are the same way... read more

It's been 5 years since I last wrote my initial review of this place and I'd like to update by saying it's still the most comprehensive Asian supermarket in Orange County. It's a little farther for me than any other market, but if there is something specific I'm looking for, then this is the one I know I'll find it at. The places does have some negative points after 5 years. Initially the place was pretty clean according to my review, but now, one of the top negatives is how bad it smells inside. Some areas don't look clean either, but then again, I'm only buying non-perishables and vegetables or herbs I am cooking with so it's fine by me. This place is not called a mega store for no reason because it is just huge inside. The produce section is quite impressive. Whenever I am looking for ethnic herbs or vegetables I know I will be able to find it here and it is also pretty fresh! I bought some Thai eggplants from the farmers market and some from here, and believe it or not, the one from here was fresher than the one from the farmers market. Still the best Asian grocery store ever and I will make the trip everything to come here. read more

There is no where to display the numbers yet they expect you to get a number and even if they saw you standing there waiting patiently, they won't help you. So many things I love about this place!! They have an awesome selection of just about everything Asian, whether fresh, canned, bottled or frozen. I drive from Long Beach to do some serious grocery shopping here. PROS: - best prices for live seafood, vegetables, and alcohol. i get my sake and soju here. - fresh tofu, soy milk, fried tofu cubes, and rice noodles. my fav fresh rice noodles are pin noodles and flat noodles used for pan frying. - large selection of vegetarian items. check out the mock meats in the canned aisle or the fake fish in the frozen section. i'm not vegetarian, but i've never seen a larger selection anywhere else. - hard to find Asian fruits are always fresh and in abudance here. think dragonfruit, rambutan, and logan. Since my cat transitioned to raw diet, I've been looking for well priced Chicken meat in every supermarket, trying to find a balance of price and quality. Granted I normally shop in H mart, Ranch 99, Walmart and Ralphs. Since there were some mandarin characters on the storefront, and the look and feel were much like Ranch 99, I thought I'd give it a shot. The chicken breasts sold here did not have a pack by or sell by date. All blank. You have to take your chance with it. Since it's during covid I couldn't even take it back. It's already developed a flimsy layer when I get home. And I could tell even my cat hated it too. Oh well. This hooman will try to do some fried chicken dices with it, hopefully the staleness would go away. But i'll never buy meat from here again. Who knows if their meat has been on the shelves for a month or year. p.s just saw someone left a review with food with expiration date of 2 years...no wonder management got rid of sell by date/pack by date all together????? The good: - Its easy to find a parking lot - Supermarket is giant, alleys were wide. It's easy to push trolleys around without bumping to people. - A lot of frozen/canned vegan products The bad: - Terrible trolley that's covered with rust, they don't roll well. Some of them are really hard to push, they always go to the wrong direction. -A lot of products have Chinese or Vietnamese name on it, but they are produced in USA. - Everything comes in huge bags, some of them looks like horse food. The products here look more for wholesale. - Sprouted potatoes, green potatoes, sprouted yam, badly wounded eggplant, skinny rotten chives, molded root vegetables and winter melon that looks like they were pumped with chemicals. No thanks. - A lot of expired frozen products - A lot of products doesn't belong to their place, you will be surprised by the prices that shows on the cashier machine later on. The horrible part Terrible service by this women called Hoang L. They put the same fish products under three kind of prices. 21 USD/16 USD/9 USD. I got the small pack and wanted to try it out. The salted fish is from Myanmar and they are about 3inchX4inches. They charged me 16 USD, so I wanted to cancel it. Hoang L used her teeth to make loud "tsk" sound and lift her shoulder and raise her hand to me. Her body language was obviously like " why would you do this? She act like I'm asking her to do a big favor. Then, she called the manager to cancel the order, the manager is nice and act normal, but you can feel Hoang's impatience and she become very rude. She started to throw every grocery we had, as if they bothered her. All the jars and cans and herbs started to fly around. I don't understand her anger just like she couldn't understand why I have to cancel that overpriced cheap looking fish from Myanmar. I'm not here to spend money and watch your stinky face and look at how you throw my herbs or desserts. If you want your groceries undamaged, definitely don't come to this place. read more

This is one of those places where someone who loves to cook can find some very difficult to find ingredients. I was on a quest to make an authentic and wonderful pho, and Thuan Phat was just the place. Put it like this: They have durian and live geoduck. Oh, and unfiltered Ballast Point sculpin for $12.99. (not on sale) This is a large Vietnamese market with plenty of room, tolerable human density, and friendly service. This is the cleanest Vietnamese supermarket I've ever encountered. - Gluttony expedition - Produce: Cheap and wide varieties. Especially fruits - you can find tons of exotic tropical fruits like Mangosteen, dragon fruits etc. It's pretty cool! Seasonings: Tons. Great varieties. They also have lots of Korean and other Asian stuff as well. I do like it ;) Rice: Wide varieties - kinds of rice and size. - Conqueror's deduction - It was so huge and I couldn't check them all. Great store... IF YOU DON'T LOOK UP. I'll simply paste here the report I sent to The Orange County Health Care Agency: In the 7 o' clock hour on the date of January 10th, 2015 I visited a local food market to purchase Coconut Water. When I got to the aisle (14) of my product, I bent down to look at the cans and felt a small splash of "water" lightly hit me. I looked up and saw that the ceiling tile directly above my food product was COMPLETELY MILDEWED, MOLDY, WET, SAGGING and DRIPPING down onto the products. This is not just a tiny spot of mold, but an entire 2-3 foot section of ceiling tile COMPLTELY saturated with BLACK MILDEW and WHITE SPORES being transferred down to the product via a water drip. Not a matter of simply replacing a tile... there is clearly a DEEP MILDEW problem in the ceiling/roof. When I pointed it out to an employee, he shrugged it off and said, "I know." Even if they address the ceiling mildew, there is still a matter of what was contaminated by the mildewed ceiling drops onto the food products. I'm sure they won't just throw out a sectioned aisle of products. I simply cannot go back into this store, wondering what else was quickly cleaned up (rather than properly addressed by health officials.) I'm a regular customer,use to go there 2-3 times a week. Today I'm so upset with the really bad customer service. I wanted a specific piece of pork belly in the second section. An employee there said "I have to buy on the top section, when they sell all the top section, then I can take the bottom. REALLY?????? IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SELL THOSE CUTS DON'T BRING IT OUT.
