I had heard about this place for a long time now and there is nothing better than a fresh chicken. What's the difference you might ask. Well, there is a huge difference in the texture of the chicken meat. However, since I was only making soup with it today, it really shouldn't matter, but since I was in the area, I decided to check it out. The place is clean. It didn't stink either. I had been to the chicken place in LA's chinatown and it stank like high heaven. I couldn't bear to be in there for more than a minute or two. This place is definitely a winner in my book. There are 2 types of chicken -- brown or regular. The regular ones are HUGE, like capons. The brown ones are $9 each and the capon ones are sold by the pound. When I brought it home, the feet and head were still intact. I totally forgot that they sold chickens this way in Asia. OH BOY! So here I am trying to get rid of the head.... I used some poultry shears and OMG, I got such a bad case of heeby jeebies and let out a few shouts here and there. One time, I accidentally poked the eye and it opened. WHOA!!! Next time I'm having them remove the head before I bring it home.

One day momma came home lugging bags of chicken. Me: Momma. Why do you keep buying so much chicken? There's no room in any of the three fridges. Momma: Don't tell me what I can't do. Besides, you're going to finish the chicken. She cooks the chickens into Ca-ri/curry, makes rotisserie chicken, fries 'em up. She even made popcorn chicken. And guess what? I ate everything. Damn, glad I picked her as my mom. The chicken at Dakao is fresh. It's a storefront with a lot of workers dealing with a lot of dead chickens in front of your eyes. There's usually a line out the door but it moves quickly. My mom used to go to the chicken store down on Westminster/Harbor but no more. Dakao is her go-to place. They have free range/American, bones, eggs, the chewy chicken....I don't know all the names. You can also pick male/female, too. A whole chicken is $11.00. Notes: -Curb parking all around the store -Accepts cash/credit -If you go towards the end of the day, it'll be scrawny chickens as your selection. You can try to haggle

Mostly fat, does this look like it's worth $4 a pound?? They mixed up fat and other parts while charging me money for drumsticks.

I went here with my girlfriend at around 7:00 pm on a weekday and we needed to wait before we could get a seat. While there was a lot of seating, there seemed to not be enough staff to manage a new section of the store. Once we got seated, we browsed their ordering sheet. After giving the staff the sheet, it took about 10 minutes to get all of our skewers. Prior to the skewers, the sides are given out first. For skewers, we got the marinated beef, beef and pineapple, and pork belly. We also got an order of the cold noodle, which ended up pairing well with the skewers. The quality of the skewers is equivalent to the Monterey park location! I'll probably skip out on the beef and pineapple one for a future visit and lean towards the other flavors. The service was okay. They seemed to be understaffed at the time so we needed to find the staff to ask additional sides and the check; they didn't check up on us.

The grill bases for each table are much wider than most places, so leg room is limited. The only thing that wasn't the best was the temperature in the restaurant. Their pork dishes are DELISHHHH (i recommend skipping the beef brisket) and I love that they cook the meat for you so you can just DIG IN. I love the lil extra goodies they include like the pineapple, mushroom, and cheese... so yum.... For the combos, I prefer the kimchi stew over the soybean stew since the soybean is a little salty for me. Make sure to order the cold noodles too - they complement the meat SO WELL.

While we waited for the grill to get going, we snacked on the banchan. The pickled dishes and spring greens were especially refreshing and did a great job balancing out all the rich flavors to come. The highlight was definitely the meat. Everything was grilled perfectly and came out incredibly juicy, tender, and flavorful. What I loved most was how many different ways there were to enjoy each bite. You can dip the pork into the garlic oil sauce, add a little wasabi, pair it with the melted grilled cheese, wrap it with myeong yi, sprinkle on some salt, or simply enjoy the quality of the meat on its own. Every combination brought out a different flavor profile, so the meal never got repetitive. The soups were comforting and packed with flavor, making them a great complement to the barbecue. Overall, this was a really satisfying KBBQ experience. The quality of the pork stood out, the variety of accompaniments made every bite interesting, and the meal felt thoughtfully put together from start to finish. The restaurant was lively!

Soy Sauce Raw Marinated Crab (5/5) ($89 for two crabs) - Hands down the best tasting soy sauce raw marinated crabs in Orange County (and maybe even in Los Angeles)! They use fresh female Korean caught crabs which makes all the difference. The meat is tender, sweet, filled with roe, and not at all fishy! They marinate the crabs in a delicious soy sauce that has the perfect balance of saltiness and sweetness. Squeeze the crab meat out on hot rice, seaweed, and sesame oil for a delicious bite. The exact address is provided with your order! The owner, Aamir, was very friendly and professional when I picked up my food and the burgers were packaged very neatly in separate boxes. I ordered two smash burgers that included three patties each, which cost $15 per burger. They included caramelized onions and jalapenos, which were a delightful surprise. The patties were a little salty, but upon reading the other reviews, I see that the owner pre-marinates the patty meat. The prices were also steep for just the burger, and I thought my order would come with fries on the side, but that doesn't take away from the quality of the food. The burger itself was massive, with one being more than enough to feed a hungry person. After talking to the owner, he mentioned he pre-marinates his meat, so that could be the reason why the taste was a little salty for us. The sauce is awesome and complimentary, so when ordering, if you don't plan on eating the burger right away, to prevent sogginess, ask for extra on the side.
