Super responsive manager, didn't have any problem connecting and scheduling maintenance

I've been a renter my entire adult life, and over the years I've dealt with more than a few questionable property management teams. That's why I feel so lucky to have Peter and his team managing my current apartment. They truly go a step above. Peter and his team are incredibly communicative -- they respond to texts and phone calls almost immediately, and any issue that comes up is usually solved within 24 hours or less. They're proactive, professional, and genuinely care about the residents and the property. It's refreshing to live somewhere that's so well run and where the management takes real pride in their work. I recently received a 30 Day Notice from my landlord and had to move my business from Eagle Rock to La Cañada. I found a couple good locations but I was having a hard time securing a lease going back and forth for weeks with the leasing agent. They ask for a lot of personal information one of "customer service" representative from 1 (213-247-0727 sent me a very unprofessional message reading "Ok whatever. What a waste of time. 8/14/19 Few months ago Jonathan Contacted me to finally give me back my money. Then instead of $500 he said he can only give me $250 back. But he wants to meet with me and make sure "I need to remove the Bad Yelp review on weyland company and him" In the end I just said NO !!! Because he owes me $500 and all the stress hardship he put me into just to get back my apart deposit. He can keep his $250 and I can keep my dignity and karma will get him soon. That is the problem, Jonathan did not do a formal walk thru with me and my wife and told me to wait for my check(refund). I received the check in 2 months and received fake charges. Would you be happy? I filed small claims, then jonathan tried to settle with $500 and drop my charges. After that he waited for 1 year and said sorry I could not help you with your $500 refund anymore. read more

A terrible HOA management company! Get any interaction with them in writing, save receipts (you'll need them for things like getting a key deposit back) record the transaction in video and have them state what the fee was for, otherwise they will do their best to not pay you the full amount back. Unprofessional, terrible service, slow to respond on any issue and generally unwilling to help. The sooner you can have these people out of your life the better. read more

Worst HOA management ever! Jonathan Paik is a snake. He tries to short change you for gym key deposit. Never pay them cash because they don't keep records. Also, they suck at inspecting the property. They took their long ass time in fixing water heater and irrigation issues. Do not hire them as property manager because they do not manage but just take your money. Very unprofessional people. I can't speak for the whole company, but I dealt with Peter Paik, and it was a nightmare. From the look of things on Yelp, Jonathan doesn't seem much better. Kind of funny that he has literally written his own positive review on this site which reeks of desperation. The property I rented became uninhabitable. The place was a detached garage like studio. The walls were in HORRIBLE shape upon move-in, even though he told me it would be painted before. I had to find a place to keep my cat for 2 nights because he had someone come paint it like a week after move-in, which cost me money. There was something wrong with the piping because the place smelled like rotten eggs. He refused to investigate the problem. Instead he just stuck some liquid down the drain, which did nothing to fix the problem. The place had an insect problem. I have never killed so many spiders and bugs in my life. We're talking multiple a day. Spiders were actually coming from the poorly ventilated bathroom vent. I saw them crawling down on their web, so they were coming from the attic. But he refused to get an exterminator out to me unless I left the house with my animal - during a pandemic. I have had plenty of exterminators come to my previous residences without having to leave. So I ended up taping up the vent to avoid the attic spiders. It was bad. So yeah - various insects, spiders falling from the ceiling, rotten egg smell, and for some reason I found black residue throughout the studio. Who knows what it was - mold, soot, I'll never know because the inspector cancelled our appointment because of COVID-19. The gate broke frequently, and it wasn't a great neighborhood. There was an alley right outside. So it felt very unsafe when the gate was open. Because of all of this, I couldn't bring myself to live there for a full year. I have never had such a consistently negative renting experience from the beginning. I gave 30 days notice after consulting on whether I could get out of my lease. Peter said yes, and that I would get my deposit back. I have this all in writing. During those 30 days, he never once showed my apartment to a new potential tenant, and I wasn't surprised. Because he agreed in good faith (and in writing) to return my deposit, I went ahead with it and moved somewhere safer. It was no surprise, after all I had to deal with in this scummy studio, that he tried to shirk me $450, claiming false charges like 'deep cleaning' and 'painting' needed, when there were literally little specks and small patches on the wall that anyone would consider normal wear and tear. Did I mention the paint job was so flimsy, paint would literally just come off for no reason while living there? These guys are practically slumlords. My neighbors had multiple complaints about them too. Most of them moved out around the same time I did. Beware of signing a lease with them. I am still considering taking them to small claims for the rest of the security deposit. When I confronted him about the charges, he called me names, including 'disgusting' and tried to defame my character. I have never been treated so disrespectfully, and have never had a problem with my other landlords. Did I mention he let a maintenance guy in my place once without my permission, which is against the law? The worker left trash in my sink, and had clearly maneuvered my furniture, which just felt like an invasion of privacy. Meanwhile he's driving around in a fancy sports car, probably taking advantage of other tenants so he can afford it. BTW, I have never felt the need to write a negative review for any other management company, and I have been a renter for over a decade. These are the pictures he claims costs $450 to fix. That was the only vent in the entire place, and the marks are from when I had to duct tape it shut to block out flying-ass spiders the size of my thumb. read more

I'm not telling you whether to lease with them or not. This is simply my experience... My girlfriend and I decide to move forward with leasing one of their apartments. Two weeks prior to move-in we sign all the necessary paperwork and wire over first month's rent and security deposit. Move-in day arrives. We've packed our cars, set up utilities, and scheduled furniture delivery. Before I go any further, I should inform you that Jonathan Paik generously told us we could move into the apartment a day early -- a Sunday to be exact. We show up on time and Jonathan is there waiting for us. He immediately tells us he's short one front door key; even though the lease specifically states we'd receive two copies. He suggests we make a copy of the key ourselves. We decline his offer. He then states the garage remote isn't working. We must have given him a bewildered look because he says he'll take care of it. He follows up asking us if we brought the move-in checklist. We tell him no. He says not to worry. We can do it on our own. We shake our heads in dismay and try to look past his early blunders. We're taking in our new apartment -- our new home. Then we notice it. The apartment isn't ready for move-in. There's scuffs, markings, and picture hangers on the wall. There's hair in the sink, grease on the appliances, and the floor is dirty. Nothing has been cleaned or painted. Nothing has been done AT ALL since the last tenant lived here. At this point, Jonathan begrudgingly agrees nothing has been done. Yet he somehow manages to accept zero responsibility. It's almost as if he's gaslighting us. It gets so bad that we ask if this is our fault. He says no, but he doesn't know what happened. He'll get a cleaning person immediately and we can move into the apartment later today. We kindly, yet firmly tell him we'll move in when EVERYTHING is done -- just prorate us until it's ready. He brushes us off and heads out to buy a new garage remote and a copy of the front door key. An hour later we've paused on unloading some of our belongings. Meanwhile, Jonathan comes back and tells us a cleaning person is on their way. Then he hands us the new garage remote and a duplicate front door key. He also gives us a plant and $10 Starbucks gift card due to the troubling start. Kind gestures, but he's still lacking a sincere apology and ownership of the situation. He tells us we can move into the apartment once the cleaning person is done. But while he's been gone we decided to give the apartment a closer look... In his absence we discover the front door knob lock doesn't lock (the deadbolt works though so credit for that). Then we find droppings on the window sill. We quickly Google what kind of droppings they are -- termites. Google tells us if the windows are difficult to open/close that could mean a significant infestation. Sure enough, the windows are difficult to open/close. We inform him of these new issues and tell him we can't move in until there's a new lock and a termite inspection. We'll head to a family member's for the time being. Six hours later Jonathan tells us to come by to check out the apartment. We do. He says the cleaning person is almost finished and once they are it'll be time to move in. He also fixed the front door lock. We ask about the painting and termite inspection. We wouldn't want to move all our stuff in just to have to move out for fumigation after all. He tells us he'll schedule painters and a termite inspection after we move into the apartment. We're mystified. Again, we ask to move in after those things have been done. His first impression obviously hasn't instilled confidence he'll get the job done. He refuses. Out of curiosity we ask him how much of the deposit they kept from the previous tenant. Without hesitation he tells us $1,000 for cleaning and painting. Oh. I'm getting extremely aggravated at this point so Jonathan spews that move-in isn't until tomorrow anyway. Thus confirming that yes, he's been trying to gaslight us. I raise my voice and use vulgar language. My girlfriend becomes upset at the way he's handled and continues to handle the situation. Jonathan questions us potentially being bad tenants and asks if we want our money back. My girlfriend and I privately discuss the situation. We come back and ask him again to paint and inspect the termite situation before we move in. He refuses. We ask for our money back. He agrees and we all terminate the lease in writing via an email. Despite all the above, it ends cordially. We're not bad people and don't believe Jonathan is either. The following day Jonathan issues a full refund of our first month's rent and security deposit. We receive it a couple days later -- ending in a... learning experience. read more

I've interacted with the company over email. I don't have to meet someone in person to understand that they are underhanded and dishonest. read more

Have had my ups and downs through the years but overall I would say they do everything in their power to take care of the tenants when possible. I'm a fired employee? HUH?? You can't even distinguish between a client and an employee?? Maybe there were so many employees who were hired and just quit so fast because it was so sh*tty and therefore the owner doesn't remember who worked there and who didn't? I mean, many people already know their services are horrible. You can tell that just by looking at all the negative reviews here! Also, it is true that the reviewer Susan P was not a tenant but an employee/manager there, no?? Correct me if I'm wrong. Oh, and whaddya know - review by Susan has been taken down. Is this just a coincidence? LOL!!! Further, look at the owner's comments on the reviews. You know, it just made me laugh. How lame and incompetent..... I'm not sure if the owner is aware of this or not but he should realize that his company already has a bad reputation enough and his so-called managers of his company are really just nothing but bunch of idiots and incompetent. I'm assuming that his company has lost several clients already? As I mentioned earlier, I never worked for this company and even in the future, I would very much refuse to work here if I had to work under these people. Isn't it so obvious? How long you think you can last here under these people? One more thing - the guy in the picture of comment by Peter is not Peter himself. I believe that may be the picture of Jonathan, one of the managers. I'm pretty much sure he is a younger brother of Peter (owner). I swear, he doesn't know jack sh*t about property management. Jonathan was punctual and assisted with the interaction with tenants and access to the site so that we could finish the job without problem. I wish all management companies worked like Weyland. I have lived in one of the Weyland Management Groups properties for around 3 years and have enjoyed my time. In Los Angeles, you can always expect an issue here or there that comes up and Weyland Management has always taken care of things in a timely manner. I have had to have a couple of water pipes fixed as i have at other apartments and they have responded quickly every time. I have reached out to Jonathan about any apartment issues and he has kept me up to speed about where we are in the process of getting something fixed. I can definitely say that I have had no real complaints as they have always taken care of their tenants. This is definitely not a perfect world, but at least they try and get things taken care of quickly and without any issue.
