$9 for fish and chips? What more could you ask for? We stop by here for a small lunch on our way to the Outer Cape. Btw, take the scenic route (Route 6A) instead of Route 6. It's the journey and the destination. The fish and chips are decently portioned though I did notice that my recent order was smaller than one a few years back. The fish was still flaky and flavorful, though. It's still a bargain at $9. The lobster roll is a good price ($18 as of this writing) but I find it to be a little too heavy on the mayo. Again, it's still a good price. Service is excellent and the servers are friendly and mostly attentive. The place is a tight bar but it's pretty clean and not dingy. One reason to come here is the cheap prices. For example, $9 fish&chips, which I read somewhere they haven't changed the price in 20 years! $22 for fried clam plate is cheap these days when up to $38 is not unheard of. Lobster rolls, $18, is also considered cheap. Another reason could be if you enjoy the ambience of an old-fashioned dive bar. The bar totally dominates the room, with just a few tiny tables squeezed against the walls on three sides, and a huge TV over the bar which was tuned to golf that day. It was pretty full when I arrived, with almost everybody sitting at the bar. I chose a table. There's also a large outdoor space with a few diners but it was too windy and bright for me. Order at the bar and they bring the food when it's ready. I ordered a fried clam plate and a ginger ale. The portion was certainly adequate for the price, the batter was light and crunchy, and the clams were fresh. However, the big flaw: the larger of the clams - they varied in size - were unpleasantly undercooked. Does anybody like them like that? Not me. I left a few of the largest ones uneaten. The fries were, no other way to put it, awful. Soggy and tasting of nothing but frying oil. No cole slaw served with this, though it's available as a side. On the positive side, the waitress / bartender was really nice and welcoming to me. Service was fast so you won't waste much of your day if you stop for quick lunch. And the prices, as I mentioned. So 2 stars for the food: the quality and lack of cole slaw. Are the friendliness, ambience, and prices enough to make up for this? Maybe? So I'm adding a star. It's doubtful I'd ever go back but if I do I hope I remember to request the clams cooked well-done. But in truth I might be growing tired of clams. read more

This place is a favorite amongst the locals, it's come a long way in the past 20 years when it was divier than it is today. With an excellent selection of fried fish plates and cold beers, this dusty gem doesn't stretch past what they've been known for, for decades. We were in town for a wedding and one of the souvenir shops in Onset told us we needed to check this place out if we were looking for lobster rolls. And when a local tells you to check a place out...you do it. And soooo glad we did! I LOVED THIS PLACE!!! It's this small establishment with the bar in the middle and surrounding bar tables along the walls. The bartender was...AWESOME!!! She was super attentive to every customer in that space and had the BEST personality! She was hilarious and just overall awesome! And fellow Buckeye! O-H! I-O! She enhanced our experience a great deal! The local souvenir shop lady was NOT KIDDING. These lobster rolls were AMAZING! The roll was buttery soft and the lobster was so plentiful for a really affordable price!!! I would have normally expected it to be a lot more expensive, but again...the local lady said..."you will NOT find another lobster roll at this price that is really good..." And she was right! Plenty of food but was all fried in a grease that was not very good tasting, so much so that I couldn't taste the food, only the grease. Service was fast and friendly. A+ for that. Best Deal at the Mouth of the Cape This is a tiny restaurant nearby the Sagamore Bridge and not too far from the Bourne Bridge. Seafood is fresh and delicious. And it's reasonably priced. Disappointed!! We've been here several times and always great ... until today. Called at 5:09 pm to order takeout, was told "just come in it'll only take 10 minutes". Arrived at 5.15 and placed order at 5:19. Waited, waited, waited .... at 5:50 asked about my "10 minute" order, was told it was next. Finally got my order at 5:57 (making me 20 minutes late for work). Paid $21 for 12 small clams?!?!?! And also a $2 takeout charge?? What was my favorite seafood place deeply disappointed us. I have always wondered about this place as I drive by often. So me and my buddy stopped by for lunch one day. This place did not disappoint. Great Seafood at Great prices. I got the fired clams and my friend got the fried shrimp. Staff were friendly and checked in with us often to see if we needed anything. A place for locals with a small yet affordable menu of what seemed like fresh seafood. What is also fresh however are the employees. A little rough around the edges. We walked in on a Saturday evening and it was BUSY. When I asked if we can order at the bar, I was met with a VERY CURT "we're very busy, you have to wait" from the bartender. OKAY, cool. We waited. It was loud (as expected). It really just seemed everyone who worked there was frazzled. The woman who took our order was ok, though when she cleaned the table I was waiting (not eating) at and I told her it was fine, she said "for the people who will sit here after you." She seemed more hospitable after she took our order, processed my card, and realized I gave her. 20% tip just for taking our order. We had no other choice for restaurant since many places in the area closed by 8PM and we got back to our bnb so late. Maybe this is my fault. Overall, the food was ok. Our friends recommended we try the Whaleback. This place is a true local gem. We sat in the bar area and took it all in. My wife had the lobster roll and I had the whole belly clams. The food was delicious and the prices were amazing. I had a cold beer and when I asked for a glass the bartender gave me a funny look. Everyone was drinking from the bottle . Ordered fried seafood platter (fish, clam, scallop, shrimp, came with fries- $20), and lobster roll ($13, came with potato chips?. Affordable prices - half of all other nearby spots and comparable in quality. Lobster roll was meaty and good. Probably too much fried stuff in one sitting. Left a bit dry mouth later in day - would've been nice if there were some non-alcohol drinks to wash down. Google and actual sign says Bob O' Malley Whalehouse but doesn't show up as such in Yelp. read more
