There are not enough places on the water which I think is crazy for Long Island... but this is one of my favorite! I could not give this restaurant more of a negative star. It is not because of staff, besides management. The manager, believe her name Ann Marie was running around smoking her weed pen. I understand that it is legal, but throwing the F word and smoking and being able to smell it with my kids around was unenjoyable. Even if I did not bring my children to the restaurant it would be unenjoyable alone. Went here for lunch and experienced extremely slow service. My friend and I were excited to eat but when we received our food there was a hair in it. The waitress didn't even apologize but she did bring us another taco (but left the one with the hair in it in-front of us) I lost my appetite but the tacos I did have were nothing special neither were the nachos. I thought Whales Tale was OK. It reminded me of the Nautical Mile in Freeport in regard to atmosphere and crowd. Most of the seating is outdoors which is amazing (although we ended up sitting at the bar inside to avoid waiting 25 minutes for a table) There's actually a lot to choose from on the menu (not just seafood) which from what I've seen usually leads to more basic, run of the mill dishes. Regardless, if you're with a group, you'll likely find something to please everyone. Apparently, they're know for their tacos so that's what we all decided on. The maui chicken taco was bland and boring. It was mostly fillers like lettuce and this ranch sauce which wasn't that good. Severely lacked any flavor. The filet mignon taco was world's better. It was delicious and flavorful, I would order it again. As far as service goes, the bartenders were super nice and attentive. But our food took effing forever to come out. Like 40-45 minutes. For tacos for 4 people. What the heck? If I found myself here again, I'd get the filet mignon tacos. Especially because they have a great Taco Tuesday special. Taco Tuesday's!! Literally this place swarms every week for this alone. Nowhere else can you find cheap $2-3 tacos dockside on a summer day. Not the best tacos in the world, but can sure make a decent meal out of a bunch of em. Personal favorites are the Maui, filet mignon and surf & turf tacos. Most of the tacos are pretty hefty and filled. The mixed drinks here are decently priced as well so overall meals are pretty wallet friendly. If you don't do a Taco Tuesday special, it's hard to justify the price for the other main meals, although the Steak Melt and fries are decent. They had a limited menu it seemed like due to the pandemic. I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries and a pink lemonade. The place was ok but it was kind of crowded. I've been here before for sunset drinks and I highly recommend it. Mostly locals and everyone is friendly. Not fancy, come in jeans or if it is summer, come in shorts. This time I went for lunch and since they are famous for their tacos, I ordered the (duh) fish tacos. They were so good! The bartender Anna consistently wiped down the bar area behind every customer and kept her mask on through out serving us. She provided outstanding service. Walked in over an hour before close. I was quickly told that the kitchen and bar was closing. I ordered accordingly, my sangria tasted like water and my queso dip came out in a to go container. Four of us went for Taco Tuesday. Loved the atmosphere and the vibe. Waited about 1.5 hours out of the 2 hour expected wait, which was ok because it was beautiful scenery and weather. Had 2 rounds of drinks while waiting and all I can say is check your bill. Overcharged by about $15! Guacamole and bang bang shrimp were all good and we enjoyed the Tacos but I wish they offered corn tortillas. Then the bill came. Once again overcharged by about $19! All I can say is CHECK YOUR BILL! Not my scene. Not my scene at all. To be fair, we were here on a Taco Tuesday recently (ie allegedly their most crowded night of the week) but judging by what I experienced here, I shall never return. Three dollar tacos are surely not worth the mayhem that I encountered (note: I never did get to try those tacos). My friends had arrived before us, so they put our name on the list. When we arrived, the place was packed with people I had no desire to rub elbows with. We went to the bar to grab some Rocket Fuel and were ignored by the bartenders for about 15 minutes as they fulfilled order after order from girls who looked like they sure could afford to do rounds with their friends but instead insisted on paying separately each time for their frozen drinks with credit cards. And. Then. Not. Tip. For. every. single. drink. (Credit card minimums are a great thing). I would normally feel bad for the bartender who was closest to us and dealing with these rude women, but he didn't even look at me. Instead when a dude got up next to me, he was asked his order before I was. I'm no shrinking violet. I stated loudly and politely that I was there first, so then he had no choice to serve me or he'd look like a real jerk. I still tipped because I'm a decent person. No surprise when I later found out that men are given preferential treatment here as my boyfriend was able to go up to the bar and be served promptly. My friend told me that her husband was served once he jockeyed for a better position at the crowded bar (ie, in front of her). I guess they just assume all of us don't tip. Whatever. I don't appreciate it. Getting back to the outrageous wait time here on a Tuesday. Just don't even bother. Their system is outrageously flawed. There's a list where they write down names. In this day and age of the computerized restaurant systems, it means for shady practices. We saw people arriving who appeared to be seated before us and we just assumed the two gals at the hostess stand were seating their friends first. I can't prove this but our names were still allegedly at the bottom of the list so that it appeared we would be waiting until closing time to get a table (that is roughly 4 hours after we arrived). I was so over it after 90 minutes that I was desperate to leave, no matter how good the view of the harbor was (this was the saving grace of the evening). Never again. read more

Atmosphere: The best time to go is during the summer... which is also the worst time to go because of the screaming children at pool ajacent to the restaurant. When I asked her if corn tortillas, she said no they are wheat. Came here the Sunday before Memorial Day to have a nice lunch/early dinner with a nice view and being outdoors. We were seated immediately although the parking was annoying due to the fact that it's right on the ocean and people take their boats out and park in the same lot as the restaurant but overall wasn't bad. Had some IPA's the oyster bay IPA which was cold and crisp. We had oysters as our appetizer and ordered 2 party trays of tacos which you can't go wrong with for the price. Our server I believe her name was Ana was very sweet, nice and on point. The tacos were pretty good, the crispy fish was my least favorite. The fish was a little dry, but the Korean steak and filet mignon were right on point. Decently priced, nice atmosphere. I would like to come back here and check out their happy hour also. The one thing that's missing from here is the amount of seafood options, they have to incorporate some lobster rolls, soft shell crab sandwiches and some crab cakes. We have been coming here for years and have always LOVED this place, especially for Taco Tuesdays and Half Apps and Taps. Lately it hasn't been good at all. One server told us it's because there was a new chef and another server on a different day said that wasn't true. Not sure the reason, but it has definitely gone down hill. Very inconsistent with their food. We used to LOVE the tuna tacos (they were the best around) but then something changed and they kept coming out over cooked and tough. The sauce on the Baja pork tacos changed each time we came as was the case with other taco's as well. Sometimes so salty it was hardly eatable (And I like salt). It's a shame because we really love this place but we've stayed away lately because we were tired of being disappointed.
