I ordered here a few weeks ago and the food was so good. I got the Peruvian empanadas and I got the hickory barbecue Carnita tacos. The empanadas were crispy on the outside but full of so many different flavors on the inside. I was very impressed, especially with the sauce they had on the side. Then for the tacos, they were full of so many flavors and the onions on them were good as well. I love that they have a big piece of avocado on top and the sauce with lime really pulled it all together. Nice little place next to water. Mixed menu of Vegan and non vegan, toss in a few gluten free. Made mistake and ordered gluten free vodka sauce. Pasta got super mushy m, couldn't eat most of it and sauce was bland. We also ordered prawn chicken, that was very tasty and chicken parm, also just ok. Service was good. Jane found a spot by a 45-minute parking sign. I didn't like sitting next to the door, so I asked to move when a table became available. We finally moved to a table with a marina view. The downside was a construction dumpster below. Food Jane: Steak with Mushroom & Onion Taco + Hickory BBQ "Carnitas" Taco Me: The Gringo - The breaded chicken cutlet was too dry and tasted like sandpaper. I told our server about it, then spoke with his manager, Daria. She offered a replacement and suggested something from the dinner menu. Me: Teresa's Chicken (no avocado) - The grilled chicken was dry, just like the breaded chicken cutlet. If Gordon Ramsay ate what I ordered, he would feel the same! I have been here over a dozen times and it is always consistently a great experience. Service is always good. Food is always fresh and tasty. The restaurant itself has a great vibe and is always well maintained. The menu has a lot of vegan options but since I'm not vegan I stick to meat in a meals and there are plenty of options for that too. Even though they're not an Italian restaurant the chicken parm is one of my favorite dishes. I also love the "beef empanadas". Here is my comprehensive review of The Purple Elephant. There are signs that says parking for 45 minutes. You can park longer than that. I asked Daria (Manager) do I have to move the car every 45 minute, she was really sweet and said no you can park there. It's definitely going to take more than 45 minutes to dine here. After we parked the car, the entrance was colorful, inviting, even took pictures of the purple elephant. How cool is that. As we walked in, staff was in the back motioning us as we said a party of two. We were in the outdoor patio. Since, it was a Tuesday I ordered Tacos- Pick two from the menu. *Steak with Mushroom & Onion- It was delicious. -Hickory BBQ "Carnitas"- I taste the BBQ sauce but as for the carnitas it was not good. It was more like mushed up. Usually, it be pieces of pork. It did not look like that at all. More like fat pieces. As for my friend, who ordered the Gringo- the chicken cutlet was dry and over cooked. I tried a piece and had hard time swallowing it. Informed the staff who said I get the manager. Daria came over tried to rectify the issues and brought out another dish. It was still over cooked. The some of the chicken pieces were blackened. I would give four stars to the waiter assistant. He moved us to another table and checked in on us and made sure our water was filled. The waiter guided us to the table, took order and asked us if everything was okay. Would I come back again. The nice thing about this vegan place is that they also offer non-vegan. There were eight of us and three people were vegan and the rest were not. It was crispy and the sauce was delicious. As for the nachos, I was blown away. You couldn't really tell that it was made with vegan cheese. It had so much flavor from all the toppings. Ambiance is 10/10, but food was a fail unfortunately. This place advertises as having healthy plant-based options, but as a vegan I can confidently say some of these items are just a flop and not tasty. For starters, their pickled vegetables that come with every dish are just terrible. This is coming from someone who loves pickled anything. Additionally, more than half of their menu items unfortunately just have that "too healthy" taste if you know what I mean. They're either dry, flavorless, or simply not what the menu advertises it to be. For example, their "whopper" literally tastes like beans and grass. Additionally, their Greek salad with "feta" is just raw unseasoned tofu crumbled over. Again, this is coming from a vegan who eats relatively clean and enjoys the health food spots in town. It just seems like there was a lack of flavor or effort put into a number of their dishes. Additionally, the food is not cheap. If I'm paying that much, I would hope to clean my plate and thoroughly enjoy the food. However, in contrast, the desserts are excellent (rice pudding/chocolate mouse). I'm assuming they outsource their desserts considering the vast contrast from their food. I would say it's worth picking another spot for dinner and heading here for dessert. read more

We went here to celebrate my friend's birthday and it was such a good experience! I emailed ahead to ask if I could bring cake and balloons and they got back to me right away. When we arrived, Sam had a table set up outside and even helped me tape the balloons to the wall, which was so thoughtful. The food was really tasty and well seasoned. We tried the coconut shrimp, the steak + mushroom + onion taco, and the carne asada burrito... all delicious with very generous portions of meat. I also like that they have healthy options like quinoa, grass-fed beef, and vegan dishes. Prices are very reasonable too. For the kids we ordered chicken and mac and cheese -- both were delicious, but picky eaters may not go for it since the mac and cheese isn't the traditional style and the side was yucca instead of fries (I didn't ask if they had fries though). With the exception of the pollo, the dishes were severely lacking in seasoning and/or moisture... and everything is so ridiculously overpriced. The yucca fries were VERY dry, as was the burger... the buffalo cauliflower is mushy and underwhelming, and the surfers bowl was disappointingly bland- just a big bowl of bland curry rice soup (though the shrimp was seasoned well). The chicken is the only thing consistently good, I've had that multiple times. But I likely won't be eating here again, the surfer bowl was my last straw. read more

I ordered Mac Attack with beyond sausage. It was a vegan dish...but you wouldn't even be able to tell. I am not vegan but it was delish. It consisted of gluten free pasta, creamy "Cheese" Sauce, Toasted GF Breadcrumbs, Sriracha, and Jalapeños. It was super yummy and very filling. My friend who is vegetarian ordered Chifrigo. It consisted of Tico Style" Gallo Pinto, Beyond Sausage, Vegan Chili, Pico de Gallo, And Fresh White Corn Tortilla Chips. He said it was delicious and that he wishes he was able to get something like it back home in Atlanta. My other friend ordered yucca fries and a side of rice and beans. He enjoyed it. I did try some of the yucca fries and I honestly wasn't a fan. I've had yucca fries from other places that were delicious...these just weren't doing it for me. Service was mediocre.
