I wanted to share my review about this restaurant because it was the most unprofessional experience I've ever encountered. We placed an order and picked it up. Got home to realize the order was incorrect. We called and we were treated very badly by some young kids working there. Long story short they laughed at us when we called. They hung up repeatedly and we paid for a pound of crawfish we didn't receive and then the $16 crab fries had no cheese on it as described and were overly salted at that point, I just didn't need it. read more

Two stars bc food is amazing no complaints there. The service today April 30th was horrible. Multiple people had to get out of their seat to ask for things. The couple next to us looked very irritated by the service also. Timothy T (our server) walked by us so many times. We didn't get any refills at all. Not only that before it got some what busy we waiting for our drink order for about 10 minutes while the two servers stood behind the bar and talked. It will be a while before I go back. read more

Had a birthday dinner for a party of 8 and service was horrible. Our server visited us 1 time during our hour and 15 minute dinner. We had to get up to seek our drink refills, get up to pay out ticket. Normally I would understand if the establishment was understaffed, however there were about 10 team members on site with the place being about 40 % at capacity. This was my first time visiting What the Crab in Mansfield. I loved the decor inside and was amused by the robot waiter. We ordered the crab fries and calamari to start 8.5/10. The fries were so flavorful and the calamari was perfectly cooked although the dipping sauce was just okay and felt pre packaged. My boyfriend ordered the catfish and shrimp basket and I ordered a pound of crab legs in their house sauce. My boyfriends catfish was a 7/10, nice crust but not very flavorful and slightly wet inside. My crab legs were stuck to the inside of the shell and tasted a bit sour and I didn't like the house sauce, it had a bit of a creamy taste which is unusual for Cajun crab broil so I requested another crab in butter garlic. This crab was way better quality but I still wasn't Impressed by the sauce, it just didn't feel Cajun to me. Still a very nice restaurant with wonderful staff, but not my favorite crab broil in the area read more

I'm glad I didn't go off the reviews and tried it myself. I visited on the evening of 6/4. My server was Teona. I got the boiled combo w/ shrimp and substituted the crawfish for snow crab. She recommends the wat da medium spice and it was perfect. It was very filling and tasty. It was so much that I even left quite a bit of shrimp only because I was staying in a hotel with limited space for food and quite frankly didn't want to the room to reck of seafood. When back in Mansfield, I'll definitely return. They have a cool robot that delivers your food. I'm not sure if I missed the education on that part, but nevertheless great experience. read more

Just went in to have dinner, will not be back ever again. My wife and I tried sitting down where we normally do, as we visit for dinner on a regular basis. We typically have had dinner to the tune of 120$ to 150$ for 2 or more plus tipping the waiter/waitress. But apparently, it was more important for the manager NOT to have to clean 3ft of plastic covering because they refused to allow my wife and I to sit at a table that we normally sit and eat at because we like the view of the TV's from this table. They refused. "You can't sit there, you have to sit in the table next to it. Fine, no problem. Won't be back, ever. Enjoy cleaning whatever table you please now because it won't be from me eating at your establishment. You win, 3ft of plastic. And less tips, great job! read more

do not eat here, never coming back. no plain butter for crab, one fork, no spoon, no knife, food delivered by robot , one plate at a time for three people, several minutes apart, appetizer next to last, weird sauce on the crab, only one server during dinner rush which meant i had to get up three times to get things he forgot and it was crazy expensive. it was terrible and they have signs at every table that say "no refunds" because i'm certain people do not want to pay for this crap. i gave it one star because it wouldn't let me give it a zero. read more

Food quality is poor for the expensive price tag. Oysters were chewy like rubber. I asked if I could have them remade (a fresh order) they slide the tray back towards me and informed me of their no refund policy and that all they could do is cook it longer. I declined and just paid for the food. The overall service was SAD! Paid $25 for a glass of wine on an empty stomach. I feel as if I was robbed. Not military friendly, only will give discount for dine in only not takeout. So, I was still proceeding with the order. Our first visit to What the Crab was excellent! Kaila provided excellent and friendly service. She had recommendations for us and followed up to be sure we were enjoying our food! She made the sweet tea herself and it was amazing! The atmosphere was modern with an industrial twist, also clean and inviting. We enjoyed the robot delivering our appetizer to us! Stopped by for dinner last night for some Carb legs. The inside is done really well with a modern look. 6pm on a Wednesday so it wasn't packed at all and got a table right away. Ordered "Cajun" wings for appetizer, a catfish plate , and garlic butter crab legs. The catfish was awesome. The wings, well u can see by the picture that it literally had no seasoning, super bland. Very bad decision on my part. The crabs are market price. Today it was 37$ for a pound of snow and $74 for a pound of king. Wanted a half of king but they only sell king by the full pound. No 1/2 pounds. Portion is what u would expect but u don't get corn/potatoes or anything with ur crab unless u order a combo with crawfish and shrimp. The garlic seasoning was a little different than I am used to but to be fair, I shoulda asked to taste the sauce before ordering. 3 stars is mostly because of the pricing, not so much the crab pricing but the other stuff. I mean I know jerry jiñes is getting me for a $25-30 house margarita but $11-14 for a frozen margarita/drink would be the price to expect at Ruth chris . Overall not bad, but also not great. Update!! So my domestic partner was not happy and smacked me upside the head today saying we need to go get some crab, found a place by accident called juicy in cedar hill and it was fire. This place is great. My wife is really particular about her soft shell crab and they cooked it perfectly. We also had the catfish baskets and they were good as well. The drinks were strong and good. I had the crab fries for an appetizer and they were awesome, maybe they could pull back in the amount of fries as the ratio of fries vs the crab was off. But other than that very pleased. read more

I'm not sure why the reviews are so bad but we had a great experience! The crab boil with the house sauce was great, and everything was fresh. We also tried the fried catfish platter and loved that as well. Service was fast and attentive, and if I had to guess our food arrived within 10 minutes. The 4 stars is moreso because of my preference for sauces, as What The Crab's house sauce has a bit of a sweetness to it that although others might love, I prefer less sweet. This place is easy to miss - but we were quite happy we went. We visited at 1pm on a Friday. Figured it would be swamped. Wrong - only 2 other customers when we arrived. Our waiter was a very pleasant young man wo promptly got us situated & appetizer cooking. The appetizer was delivered by "Rosie the Robot". Fried green tomatoes. Excellent batter buy slightly undercooked. Totally edible but measurably shy of perfection. We ordered a fried shrimp in both dinner & lunch portions with regular & sweet potato fries. I didn't count the shrimp but the servings were generous and both portions were more than sufficient. I'll give the shrimp a fair review. All of the shrimp was a little overcooked. Not badly but enough to make the meat a bit dryer & tougher than optimal. I'd call it a 7 out of 10. Not bad but not gonna win many fans. The batter was excellent & moves the barometer to 8 out of 10. When things aren't busy that's when it's super easy to make a mistake that wouldn't happen if things were busier and "flowing" - like leaving shrimp in the fryer one minute too long. We'll try a busier time and I bet that problem disappears. The fries deserve their own bullet-point. The sweet potato fries were excellent. The seasoning was really good & they were cooked to perfection. The regular fries had a spice-laden crust that was delicious. Far better than any fast food joint by miles. Portions were good but not excessive. For a brand new place they did a very nice job. Service was very good. Pricing was reasonable. Folks started filing in & by the time we left the place was half full - which I was glad to see because we'll absolutely give them another try. We barely put a dent in the menu. My daughter LOVES crab! We were super excited to see something open in Mansfield. We read some negative Yelp reviews but we are really please to have What the Crab in Mansfield!! She got the Lemon Pepper Snow Crab with potatoes and demolished it!!! We ordered ours for takeout and the cashier was friendly and super helpful. I had a glass of wine while we waited for our takeout and made note that the bar was clean, the staff was nice and attentive and there were lots of TVs and a fun ambiance....looks like a good happy hour spot! We have ordered crawfish here quite a few times. The first few times, there quite a few dead crawfish. Each time we get it, it's more and more. This enrire last batch we ordered on Wednesday was the entire batch. The flavor of the crawfish is good but sorting through the live crawfish to throw out the dead ones before boiling is essential whether boiling at home or a business. Not quite sure if we really will be back as it is getting worse. And for the many that may not know why make a big deal about dead crawfish... those mushy crawfish your are getting are dead. When they are dead, the meat starts to disintegrate. They are supposed to be removed from the batch prior to boiling. read more

I will NEVER return to this restaurant or Akiri which is right next door and owned by the same person. My Type 1 Diabetic daughter and I waited patiently as SEVERAL patrons who came in AFTER us received their food. When I finally asked about the status of our order, we were advised that it had NEVER been placed. She apologized and asked for our order again. I placed the order but also asked for the manager. The manager was completely disinterested and couldn't stop smirking the entire time she spoke. When I asked how they would rectify the situation (at this point calmly), she said she could not add an appetizer (despite my daughter's dropping sugar) and she also could not discount my order. Instead, she offered that I could cancel the order that was just placed as if sitting for over an hour waiting for food just to leave with no food was a great customer service experience. I went next door to speak with the owner who of course wasn't in that restaurant either. You screw up and then just tell me too bad, you can just leave?????? The boiled shrimp gets all 3 stars. It was flavorful and delicious. Everything else was not very good. We bought raw oysters to start with. They had a funny taste where I didn't feel comfortable eating them. Also the Bloody Mary were horrible. I had to go up to the bar to ask for more ingredients that are supposed to be in bloody Mary's. I'm a big fan of seafood boil and was happy to see and location nearby me. Off the start it was pretty weird how there was no market price value anywhere posted and the prices for all items were way overprice for the quality of food. I have no issue paying fairly but this was off by far. I understand the elegant vibe but I prefer good quality food to match the price. The flavor was not there neither the sides. Theres better spots at better prices unfortunately this was not for me. read more
