We returned to this location 4 days after my last post, on our way home. Carli was there. She's such a sweetheart! Always a welcoming smile. Always helpful. I ordered the grilled chicken just before 11am. They didn't have any ready-made. Carli came to our table and told me they were making it fresh for me so it would be about a 7-minute wait. She brought it, with our other foods, about 5 minutes later. Everything was fresh and hot. Shout-out to the kitchen for timing everything so well! Later, I told Carli the root beer was out. She swapped it out herself - though she and all other staff were busy. This Whatbutger deserves higher scores! I stopped in today to get me a breakfast burger, and a banana pudding shake. I did not get the banana pudding shake. I got a vanilla shake. It really upset me, but on top of that when I got to the window to pay the cashier Dakota B had an attitude with me. I'm pretty sure you're tired. I am too, but there's no reason for you to have an attitude with a customer that has done. Nothing wrong working in the food industry you are supposed to have a calm mentality meaning whatever attitude you have with somebody else that day leave it at home does that makes you look bad but that also makes the restaurant look bad. Right now this stop is costing us 30 minutes plus of travel time. Asked to pull up at the drive thru for five minutes after getting our food. We have all eaten and while yummy, still waiting with no drinks because the shake machine had to be loaded up. 4 cars have pulled past. Sending a young one in for an update. Update: We wound up with 6 drinks and stopped back to give $10 for those extra 3 on the way back north. Staff is always super sweet and nice. This was the most disappointing Whataburger I've ever had. We live less than five minutes away and ordered in advance. Made it within the window ended up having to wait at the drive-through because they were out of root beer. Staff was slow to check the drive through and inattentive. They almost forgot an item. The food was basically cold by the time we got it home. The grilled onions tasted pretty much raw, beef was dried out, the bun tasted stale. The fries were cold and soggy. The vaunted banana pudding milkshake either tastes entirely like vanilla or they messed it up. Can't tell it's such a let down. Far from the ones I enjoyed in Mississippi and Texas this one was a drab letdown. With fast-food prices becoming more absurd by the moment, it's really inexcusable. First time trying Whataburger. I will not give this location a 2nd chance, maybe a different location. The cashier taking our order took 9 minutes to take our order. She claimed computer issues but I saw she was having difficulty entering the order with her 4" long fingernails. The restaurant itself looked fairly new and well lit unfortunately all the tables were sticky. Our food arrived fairly quickly but it was cold and I had to ask for the banana pie shake I ordered because it did not come out with the food. Before all the haters start busting on me, I know this is not the Doral Country Club in Miami or the Brown Derby in New York City. It is a Whataburger where young adolescents should go to learn working skills though leadership and guidance provided by adults. I placed a walk in order at 12:16 PM and it was not until 12:25 PM when I was handed a bag. I did not think anything about it got in my car and left. Well hold on quick draw; you see I ordered a kids meal with tomato and onions; small fries; Chocolate Chip Cookie and a Kids Drink. What I got was a Jalepeno Cheese Burger with Medium Fries and Medium Drink. Something here does not belong... I can see where someone could be confussed as the orders are similar... NOT. After a TERRIBLE time trying and failing to get served at Whataburger's Beltline store in Decatur, I traveled to north to Athens to satisfy my Whataburger needs. Arriving in Athens and in walking through the door, I was met with two enthusiastic voices calling out, "Welcome to Whataburger!" How refreshing. [In Decatur, after waiting-waiting-WAITING to be served, I finally put my head in the kitchen area and asked "Would it be better if I just used the Drive-through?" Only one person responded . . . and he LAUGHED; then turned and went right back to what he was doing. He and others purposefully telegraphed their NASTY attitudes. Other people walked out since they too were not getting service.] The Athens store felt . . . family oriented. People eating their meals volunteered their affinity for the store. An amazing difference from the service experience in Decatur. As a last note, the folks on staff in Decatur let me know, "This would be a great place to work if it wasn't for the customer!'' God Bless the staff and management in Athens. Since the problems in Decatur can be measured from the day they opened, management (guaranteed, in-store and above) is an issue that needs resolution. What a mess We stopped by on the way back from the beach and to be polite we were not impressed! 30 minutes for a few burgers... the service was absent even if the clerk was very polite. No care at all, no management total. Chaos everywhere. We got the wrong condiments, they forgot the onion rings.... As I stand here and ponder, a few things are evident. The care and concern for customers seems to be decidedly lacking. First and foremost this is the second time I have come inside for a remake. As of this writing, I am at 39 mins of waiting. I have only been approached by two employees who state "they would check on my order", only to lead to the unavoidable,"they are working on it" or "I'm sorry, we're just really busy". This response is rather comical at this stage, as there have been numerous customers to receive their food well ahead of me that ordered long after I did. To the management team that may read this, communication is disappointing, customer care is lacking, and when I finally receive my two combos and onion rings I will update the time it took. My family got to the athens, alabama establishment at 5:45pm last night to grab a bite to eat on our way into huntsville. We ordered our food and sat down to wait. I noticed that there was several people waiting so I figured there would be a small wait. I know that places are short staffed so I try to be patient. After waiting 30 minutes I went up to the front and asked how much longer our food would be. The cashier went to the kitchen and asked. I could hear the workers in the back make rude remarks that we should be more patient and it would be out when they get it out. The cashier came back and said they were working on my order. He never offered an apology for how long it was taking. I sat down and waited again. At 45 minute wait my family had to leave since we had an appointment to make. I went up again to the cashier and asked for a refund. At this time another man was doing the same since he had been waiting the same amount of time. A few people had walked in to order and asked me how long I had been waiting. I told them 45 minutes. The new customer asked the cashier if that actually was the wait. The cashier said yup that's about right. The cashier went to get the manager to see if a refund could be given. The workers in the back were so rude with remarks that we should learn patience and to just sit down and wait. This is fast food...there is no reason for it to take 45 minutes to be ready. No reason to not inform customers that a wait would be expected. They seemed to only be concerned with the drive thru customers and nobody inside. The manager came out and offered the refund. I did lose out on a coupon I had used for a free whataburger meal as well. I won't be back to this location. I love whataburger bit the long wait mixed with the attitude from the employees has made it where I won't visit this location again. I also still am waiting to see my refund on my card since they won't give back the refund in cash. I've been in quite a few locations in Texas. This location needs some serious texas training. We done this location 3 times, and I'm close to saying "never again. " Although the food is good, the orders are not audited, so the people handing the orders out the window don't know if the orders are complete, and give the impression that they don't care. Well, this location is better than the Madison location but that isn't saying much. Let me start by saying that I really enjoy Whataburger most of the time. At least at locations outside of north Alabama. I love the burgers, the chicken sandwiches, and especially the chicken topped salad. Hubs is a big fan of the patty melts and the burgers but enjoys the chicken with salad as well. The first couple of times we ate at the Athens location, the food, the service, and everything else was great. My orders were correct and the food and service was great. But a few months after opening, the service dropped off completely (still the occasional nice person but rarely a correct order). Guess the setup and training team went home. Of course, we understand supply issues but it seems they are always out of napkins, all condiments, and straws in the drive through but sometimes have them for inside customers. I have found it difficult to eat salad without a fork in the car and it's really hard to drink out of the cups without straws when traveling but it can be accomplished. I am about to the point of taking my travel silverware out of my suitcase and put it in the car alongside with paper towels and ketchup. Besides forgetting utensils and condiments, what really annoys me is an incorrect order that I've waited 30+ minutes for...I ordered a salad with an extra chicken patty. Paid a couple of dollars more. Got only one patty instead of two. Hubs ordered large onion rings but got the smaller fries. This wasn't the first time it happened but now seems the norm at this location. I'd not recommend eating at this location. Unless you enjoy a mystery grab bag of food, no condiments (love the spicy ketchup when it's available), no utensils, and really long wait times. Oh, and the slogan about you being satisfied...not applicable at this location. Yes, after the last time I did put in a complaint to corporate but three months later still no response. And I do complimentary reviews to corporate when warranted. I had written them a nice email about how good it was a few days after opening. Just don't expect anyone to reach out to you if you are overcharged and receive incorrect or incomplete orders after the opening team leaves! read more

What is the problem with this place? The last time I ordered online, it was a disaster. Today I foolishly tried again, and again they screwed everything up. I ordered online, set the time of arrival, showed up on time (actually a few minutes late for good measure), went to the drive-through, gave my name and pulled forward. There was a car in front of me in the right lane, and a car pulled up behind me. We sat there for twenty minutes before getting our food. In the meantime, four cars in the left lane pulled up to the window, paid for their food and drove off. When I got home, the order was wrong. We went in there on January 4, 2024. We used to get a burger meal at Whataburger for less than $8.50... now the meal is over $11. No thanks. They aren't that good... and there is no legitimate reason for this crazy price gouging. Also, at this store in Athens, AL on Jan. 4, 2024; it was over 85 degrees inside there. I was not provided the complete meal I ordered. The fries were wet and cold and were ordered hot and crispy yet they replaced them only after requesting the replacement for the cold nasty wet fries then waiting over 15 mins after pulling forward and asked 3 times including 1 time after pulling forward for the DrPepper I ordered with the meal. My wife wasn't feeling well and we had pulled away onto the main road already when we realized still didn't get the drink. I tried calling back no one answers the phone, called multiple times with ZERO results. I added the receipt to my app purchases. I then got online and filed a complaint with the Whataburger store corporate office customer service line. Replied back shortly by email said we will reach out to you on this issue. Oh holy guacamole batman! This Whataburger customer service was above and beyond. Ylaina, the cashier, was absolutely so sweet from the second my order started. Then, when I wanted to switch my coke for sweet tea (I was exhausted at this point and don't know why I said coke lol) and her and the manager were so incredibly sweet and said it was all ok and totally doable. WhataBURGER is out of burgers on a Saturday afternoon!! We sat in line 10 mins before we even knew they were out of burgers and got stuck in the line since there's no way to get out. We ended up sitting in line for THIRTY MINUTES and not ordering a damn thing since we came for a burger. The staff wouldn't even move people in line into parking spaces so we could exit the line.
