Chicken avo press (no avocado for me though - hah) and sweet potato fries.
Bailey B.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Sweet little spot tucked away in Athens.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'd been wanting to try the food ever since seeing some particularly mouth-watering pictures of the food, so I jumped at the chance while spending some time in the area recently. I visited for lunch on a Friday in August at around 12:30 while killing time before an appointment. It was Friday during peak hours, but MAN, they were busy and the space inside is pretty limited. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I will admit feeling a touch claustrophobic and germaphobic -- not due to a lack of cleanliness on their part, just so many people packed in so tightly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is somewhat surprisingly (to me, at least) connected to a small drug store, which gave it a sort of old timey feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You stand in line and order at the counter off a tidy blackboard menu. The line moved at a steady amble and the girl working was very sweet when I got to the front. I order a chicken avocado melt (sans avocado -- lol) with sweet potato fries and a tea to drink. I did ultimately manage to snag a spot to sit. Although the line to order moved at an acceptable pace, I will say, the wait for my order was...pretty long. Long enough that I started getting a little worried about making my appointment. At least 25 minutes, maybe more like 30 -- unfortunately I delayed too long writing this review to remember exactly. Just as I was about to get up to ask if I'd been forgotten, my food was delivered in the manner all their food is -- to go, in a styrofoam container. In their defense, they were apologetic about the wait time and they were most definitely slammed. I managed to eat quickly enough to make it to my appointment, so I'm not that mad about it. The food itself was satisfying! The chicken inside the melt was seasoned and cooked very nicely and came in large, neatly cut chunks. The Swiss was also nice and melty. I wish the bacon had been a little crispier and that the ranch had been put on the sandwich rather than sent as a dip, but I get wanting to avoid sogginess and whatnot. The sweet potato fries were a generous portion and scratched a craving I'd had for a while. Overall, I like their menu and their approach to a slightly healthier, fresher option for lunch. Would definitely return and try additional dishes. They do a lot of call-in/carry-out so u might try that some day to make sure my food is out on time. Give them a visit!

Loaded fries with chicken

The building itself was kind of cold and we had planned to dine in, but food is given to you ready to go so we took it to our hotel room and were pleasantly surprised with delicious food. I had the loaded fries, they didn't have brisket so they asked me if chicken would be okay and it was delicious. My husband had one of the bowls and was also impressed with his dinner.

Hula Bowl
Andrew G.

Best fast-casual food in Athens! My go-to is the Hula Bowl (rice, sweet chili sauce, a protein, and fried jalapeño slices), but you can't go wrong with anything from the menu. The sweet tea is great and we love the patio seating on a nice day. Indoor seating is a bit limited, so keep that in mind during peak hours if you're wanting to dine in. The food is always fresh and staff if friendly!

Really more like a 3.5, FWIW…read more Took a lil roadtrip out to Athens with my folks on a day off last week. We wanted to try this place. Since it is in the main part of downtown, super close parking is a bit of a big ask; we parked at a public government building about two blocks down and walked over. The inside is very small and only has a couple of two-seater tables and one bench setup, but there are multiple nice metal tables outside to sit at if the weather is good. Fortunately, we lucked out in that regard, as it was a nice day. The inside of the restaurant smelled absolutely amazing, so I was excited to order. Their lunch menu mostly consists of sandwiches and burgers, with limited sides like chips, broccoli salad, soup of the day, and so on. Bottled drinks and a couple of desserts round it all out. My parents split a Philly cheese steak sandwich with pasta salad; I got a chicken cheese steak with a cup of the soup of the day (potato), and we shared a slice of strawberry pretzel salad for dessert! The employees were nice enough to bring our food out to us while we were at a metal table on the patio, so that was sweet. Food came out relatively quickly and was definitely fresh. Overall, it was fine! My favorite thing was probably the strawberry pretzel salad; I wish I'd had a little more but I should've ordered my own portion! lol. The potato soup had really nice garlicky croutons on top that I enjoyed, though I wish there'd been bigger chunks of potato in it. I liked my chicken Philly just fine though I feel like it was missing some sort of flavor somewhere. My parents felt the same about their regular Philly. Unlike me, though, my mom unfortunately got several gristley bits she had to spit out. The chicken didn't have that same problem. Overall, a pleasant enough experience though I wouldn't say our socks were knocked off, haha. I'd return and try other menu options if I come back in the future.

From where we were at the Tennessee state line, it was about a 50 minute ride on small country roads. We arrived at Mike's Cafe after most of the lunch crowd was gone. We ordered the smoked chicken with fried potatoes, pinto beans and okra, a double cheeseburger deconstructed, small onion rings and a BLT to go. They didn't have turnip greens or collards so I ended up with fried potatoes. Fried cornbread was included. Inside the restaurant the ceiling in the small dining area was similar to galvanized siding. It was shiny new. I didn't ask if the dining area was a new addition. The shiny caught my attention. I believe there were 12 booths for seating. We were the only customers inside sitting while Mike, the owner, was back in the kitchen preparing our foods. We introduced ourselves and told Mike we drove over there because we heard so many great things about his food and that his restaurant was clean. It was clean too! Mike brought our foods out and we headed to the car. As we were about to leave, Mike came out with a sample of his hamburger soup on the house. What a lovely gesture. We thanked him and his wife and headed home to devour our haul. The smoked chicken was delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the fried okra, pintos and fried potatoes. The BLT was made with a lot of thick cut bacon. Yummy! The double cheeseburger we shared later was delicious and cooked perfectly. If you like old style good home cooking, please stop by Mike's Cafe. His food is fire!

This is a small little bakery; technically they have daily lunch specials but there's very limited seating so it's more of a grab-and-go type of spot. They also have premade dishes in tall coolers if you want to take and reheat something as an appetizer or an entree. Great for on the go engagements or as a quick fix for a family that needs feeding. There's also a selection of packaged breads made in-house and a dessert case. The service was extremely nice! I had a lovely chat with one of the employees. The only major complaint I have was that the store smelled really weird and unpleasant when I visited. I have NO idea what it was from -- I couldn't place the smell. Maybe a dish I don't like? Maybe the yeast for the bread? Not sure. It looked clean and had a good health code score, but the smell was rough. At any rate, I grabbed a slice of strawberry pretzel salad for right then, as well as a slice of Elvis cake (iirc) and a snickerdoodle. The strawberry pretzel salad had a pretty strawberry jelly top and was packed with lots of cream cheese filling! It was good, though I do wish there had been a thicker pretzel crust; sometimes I felt like I was mostly eating pretzel crumbs instead of an actual bottom of a layered dessert. Still, definitely yummy! Hubs and I enjoyed the Elvis cake later. It was super moist and sort of reminded me of a hummingbird cake. My snickerdoodle was special (peanut butter snickerdoodle? Coffee snickerdoodle?). It was a unique combo of flavors that you don't typically see but sadly I'm far enough removed now that I've forgotten exactly what. Regardless, it was good! Stop by and treat yourself sometime!

Along for the ride in my favorite sister's quest for the best locally made sourdough bread, we visited Suzanne's last month. It's small, and I think it may have had 2 little bistro style tables inside, but it may have had 3. There are several refrigerators on the floor with grab and go items such as a ground beef-based "John Wayne casserole," pimento cheese, various casseroles, maybe a 3-bean salad, chick salad, broccoli salad, and more. A stocked confection counter is where you order and pay. They had really cute Halloween cake "pops" for sale and their "sour dough" bread was on a small display on the right as you enter. They offer hot lunch specials daily Tuesday-Friday, 11-2 and a soup of the day at 6.49, ranging from said John Wayne casserole to chicken poulet and stuffing. We missed the lunch window and didn't purchase any of the grab and goes. The staff here are patient and friendly! Really nice! Sister and I each got a loaf or 2 of the sourdough, sister tried one of their confectionery items and said it was good. I also got two of their giant chocolate chip cookies for the hubs. The unanimous verdict on their sourdough bread is it is a good bread, especially for toasting; however, sourdough it is not. The bite I had was sweet and fluffy. Hubs and sister agreed it was delicious bread, just not sourdough. So, it's back to Publix for sourdough. Don't plan to eat in if you go to Suzannes, I told sister, "I guess most people get their lunch to go and eat it in the car, parked here, or back at work." Thanks, Suzzane's! I'm happy to have visited your shop and to see all you offer!

The indoor seating area has only four or six tables, so be prepared to eat outside or take it home. The place is very clean and the people are very friendly. I had the cheesesteak sandwich which was delicious. It was packed fully with beef and sweet peppers. It was a little lite on the cheese, but that's ok with me, just so you know. Opted for fries instead of the other sides available. They were very good, hot and crispy. Yes the price is a little high, but that's the world we live in now. It was very comparable to any other sandwich shop or a fast food chain.

The app did not work on my dear friend's I phone, but I just added her order to mine and that worked fine! I did not like you couldn't modify or cancel your order after placing it via the app. I had the American Wagyu French Dip, half sub, 5 inch, no mayo which was $8.73 after the $2 discount, and friend had the Homemade Turkey, small sub, 8 inch, no raw onions which was $10.84. Both sandwiches were made correctly. We arrive 20 minutes prior to the pickup time I indicated on the app and they were just starting the orders. We were the only customers. The staff were all wearing matching uniforms, hats, and plastic gloves [I'm not sure if the cashier had gloves on]. The restaurant interior was tight, and I thought the music was too loud. The restaurant was clean, including the single unisex restroom. The staff were friendly and smiling! They forgot my au jus and were happy to give me a giant container of it, which was overkill for the size of the sub. Dear friend loved her sub. She was very excited to try this Capriotti's since she loved the Bobbie sub she had in Vegas as Capriotti's. I thought Wagyu beef was wasted on a sub sandwich. The sandwich was very filling, the au jus was hot, and I was grateful to have ice water from their fountain machine while friend got a diet drink. I'm not really a sub fan. I never wake up craving a sub. I also thought these were pricy subs! Friend's coke was $3.25. Do know, there is not ample seating inside and the "feels like" temp yesterday was supposed to reach 107 degrees. I was grateful we were able to get indoor seating. I'm glad to have tried Capriotti's; however, I personally don't have a desire to return, because of not being a big sandwich fan. I also just prefer table service and don't want to be constantly walking around to pick up the order, get napkins, refill my water, get the au jus they forgot, throw away my trash, because I've already worked a long day and I prefer to relax while dining.

She enjoyed two lovely cups of their coffee and then I think water, and I had some vino since she was driving. We split a 10 ounce filet mignon (which is not on the lunch menu but is available if you ask for it) and it was beyond delicious! I trusted our excellent server (I think her name was Holly) to select the cut of meat for sister and me from the butcher shoppe, Corkshire, and it was beyond excellent!! It was just as good, if not better than the filet I split with my Sorority Sister when we came here for my birthday in February! Sister and I also shared their take on a bruschetta. It was good; however, for me, it was the "weak link" - I like a traditional bruschetta with buffalo mozzarella, balsamic, fresh ripened tomatoes, etc., and this was more akin to a charcuterie board on toasty bread slices. It looked beautiful! The meat topping was plentiful and lovely, it had more fat on it than I care to have. There was a sort of berry relish on another layer and that's where I called it quits on the bruschetta. My sister did enjoy it, though, which is what mattered! We ordered two mac and English cheddar cheese fritters for Sister, and she really really loved those! They were presented wrapped individually in their to go box, to keep each one warm, and again, Sister, loved them! Neither of us had room for desert which, since Salty Cod has a separate bakery/gelato shoppe, would have offered some delicious options! Thanks, Salty Cod, for another memorable, relaxing birthday celebration!
