    Spicy Chicken Sandwich
    David W.

Recently, I went to Whataburger for the first time, and overall it was pretty good. The restaurant was clean and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Most of us got burgers, and I had a buffalo chicken sandwich. All the food was delivered directly to our table, and I like that way they visit the table with extra condiments to see what you might need. The food tasted as good as can be expected, and our order was accurate. There were a couple of issues, but nothing major. For example, the fountain soda machine wasn't working and nobody seemed overly concerned about it being broken after we passed on the information. The fries were kind of short in the container, but we are talking about a very reasonable price point so we can't be too picky. The location seemed nice enough and was not very crowded. Overall, in a pinch this location has decent food with good service and a minimal hit in the wallet.

WHATA - BUMMER This was the weirdest fast food queueing system I had ever experienced. The double lane drive thru with a staff member in each lane taking orders is usually the method used when the restaurant anticipates high volumes of cars. Me and another car pulled in the double lane drive-thru simultaneously and were in separate lanes. I ended up being the second car to arrive. I placed my simple order with the associate; #5 combo, bacon cheeseburger. I used a credit card, to which the associate walks all the way inside the building to charge the card instead of being able to use the tablet from which he took the order. In the time that it was taking to get my order, 6 more cars had pulled into the drive thru. It was already 10 minutes gone by and the first car had already drove off with their order and the other car had pulled up in its place. After 15 minutes, orders were coming out but the associates were walking around confused because they were asking my name, if it was my order. When my order was finally brought to me they had forgot the drink so they had to go back in and get it. They had no direction or organization to their ordering system and took quite long just to get 1 combo meal with only 1 customer ahead of me. The burger itself was meaty and the fries were fresh at least. But the burger was kind of basic and nothing I would be rushing back to get at $12 for the 3 items and wait in that drive thru.

    Why serve this

Even after they mis charge you for meals they charged it all separately the fries drink blah blah and I get the money back cool then I come home and nasty onion rings like why serve these Update: I got home the sprite was flat and needed to be changed I was just on a roll with back to back bad service lol

Whatever it is about Whataburger, these burgers are so dang good!! I literally CRAVE the Jalapeno Cheese Burger and now that this one is so nearby it has become a bit of an addiction in the best way... plus they are 24/7 so I never have to worry if they will be open when I want one. At times the line can be long but it's become a popular spot in town. While I have only ever used the drive through, the staff is always super friendly. It may take a little longer than typical "fast food" but quality is not sacrificed. Today I also got a side of large onion rings - its the weekend lol. They must have just made this batch because they are nice & crispy. Whataburger welcome to the neighborhood!

It's a burger. I got the jalapeño burger. It was salty. I know you AZ ppl like salt. You and your ranch dressing. But we eastern ppl don't. So. Skip this if you cant manage salt. I scraped it all off n the beef was good. So there ya go. Service was great.

This was not even close to halfway full. I ate a few before this picture, but not many.

As a kid I remember when Whataburger came out, and they were great. We used to have them as a tradition on Christmas eve for many years. Today I decided to give them another try, as it's been several years, and the last few times hadn't been great. I had a coupon for a free double Chili Cheeseburger with the purchase of a medium fries and drink. I ordered mine with jalapenos, for an extra 70 cents. The bill after the coupon was $7.38. I remember not that long back that was the regular price of the full meal, including the burger. They took off $9.39 for the burger, so without the coupon this would have been over $17 for a single meal. There were about 3 people ahead of me waiting for food as I sat down. The wait was just about 10 minutes for the food, but the burger they gave me didn't have any jalapenos on it, so add another couple of minutes to get them to notice me standing at the counter with food in my hands, and to actually give me a cup full of jalapenos. Once I got everything assembled I was looking forward to a decent burger, but I can't say that's what I got. Even with likely double the jalapenos of a normal order, and the chili on it it was bland. I could sorta taste the chili, which wasn't good at all, but the most flavor came from the cheese slices. The meat had nothing to add but texture, and with two patties it filling, but that's the best thing I can say about this burger. Now for the fries. I ate about 6 or 7 long fries out of the pictured SOCALLED medium fries. When they served them the container was on its side, had stuff flowing out like it appeared full, but the container was never opened up at the base so it was like a small envelope, instead of a medium sized container. The staff is either to lazy to open the container properly, or more likely they're told to fill them this way to reduce serving sizes. Maybe I'll try them again in another few years, if they're still around.

Service was so slow and very awkward. And I was the only customer. Burger was ok. Fries not good. The spicy ketchup helped.

I really wish it were easier to find breakfast joints with organic coffee but it can be a bit difficult to find in certain areas, such as the east valley area. This was one of a couple options I could find. We attempted to dine here for dinner on a previous occasion but it was a long wait at that time so we went elsewhere. This time we showed up around 10:15am on a Saturday in June, and we were quoted 90 minutes for two people. Fortunately there was room at the bar, so we were seated immediately. The decor is very clean and subtlety higher end. It is an open floor plan with the bar towards the front door, which is also accessible from the large patio (in cooler weather times) that has mister fans and a lot of shade. They have one of the nicest and cleanest restrooms in the valley, with complementary sea salt scrub and high end paper napkins. They also have a couple luxurious event spaces, one of which was hosting an engagement party. My mom tried a non alcoholic drink special with decaffeinated tea and fresh juices, with a little flower on top. She also tried the avocado toast. She enjoyed both but she said the avocado toast was a little spicy, albeit she has an extremely low tolerance for spice. I opted for the breakfast sandwich and black coffee. The coffee came in a neat mug with an oversized handle that was very ergonomic. It was good, but slightly watery. Was at least comforting to know it wasn't laced with tons of pesticides like most restaurants' coffee. The egg, bacon and avocado sandwich was delicious. The egg and bacon were cooked perfectly, and the bread was nice and soft but not too dry. The greens on the side were fresh with a nice vinaigrette. The service was excellent, all of the staff were friendly and seemed to be happy to be there. All in all I was impressed with this place. The only thing I wish they had on their brunch menu was an omelette, because this is first place I have been in a very long time that isn't a fine dining establishment, where they actually know how to cook eggs properly. They were fluffy, moist, and light. I don't bring this up as a brag, but I attended culinary school and learned proper scrambled egg (French style) technique years ago. This is the first place I've been in a long time that gives my eggs a run for their money.

Then, on the second night I was in Chandler, we went back for a catered event in the back room of SanTan Brewing Company. It turns out I didn't miss out at all! I have to be honest: I'm not a beer drinker, so I didn't know what to expect from the experience, other than that my friends had been there two nights prior. But upon our arrival, we were immediately escorted past the many tables and the bar to an enclosed back room with tables set up for us, a buffet line, and a private bar. We had our own serving staff and bartender, and after a quick welcome, we were encouraged to go up and place our drink orders. I chose to stick with non-alcoholic drinks, though everyone who ordered drinks (mostly beer) left happy with their selections. When it came time for the food, we had a chicken and beef option, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, vegetables, and assorted desserts. Everything was tasty! My last trip here though I had to ask about why the menu had stopped changing as often since we were one of two parties there in the middle of happy hour and there was a large framed picture of a bartender with a bunch of signed notes on the bottom of it beside me at the bar. It turns out that one of the oldest curators and bartenders of the bar and restaurant had passed from a drunk driving incident and I had not known at all!
