Visited here today in Downtown San Antonio. A colorful bunch of visitors here. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger Combo. The fries were cold and the burger was underwhelming at best. A bit dry and like whatever for me. The spicy ketchup was good. I liked the soda bar with the Gatorade and light lemonade. Due to it being Downtown there were a lot of homeless customers also, which wasn't a problem, but it was hard to eat and smell the urine and other things that came with that. read more

Took 36 minutes to get a bland cold burger and fries, but the cops that ordered 10 min after I did got their meals 5 minutes before I did. The manager even came out to greet them personally. The place was not packed and it wasn't rush hour, it was after 2:30 pm on a Tues. Cashier was nice though. If you ever wonder where all homeless people in San Antonio are, this is the spot. No matter what day/time there is a good chance you will be sitting next to if not sharing the table with a homeless person. The place is filthy and no one cares that homeless hang out there. The staff moves in a slow motion. They are always fully staffed, yet time doesn't exist there. Whether you order online or stay in line, you will be waiting a very long time. Soda machines are constantly out of ice and drinks. Customer service... They aren't familiar with this word combination at all. Constant attitude with a lack of sense of any kind of urgency. I don't usually write reviews for fast food chains, but this place is arguably the worst fast food place I've ever been to. To say the service is slow and disorganized is an understatement. Everyone who works there look like they are 15 and they can't wait for their shift to end. It took 30 mins to get my order like everyone else. The booths, floor and general area cleanliness is worse than a gas station bathroom. On top of that I got food poisoning so that probably means either worker hygiene and/or food safety is probably disregarded. If I could give 0 stars I would. Avoid this place at all cost. read more

Just an over hyped Texas thing. My friends always raved about this place saying how good it is. After my first couple of bites this place tastes just like every other fast food joint. Where to get started Whataburger is a texan favorite and community enjoys it. It's a great fast food place if you want something simple and good. However the thing people don't tell you is that the service was incredibly rude and they got orders wrong. My family was in town and we were ordering a lot of meals and they gave us maybe 2 packets.My mom asked for more and they said "if you like it so much go buy it yourself" We spend 35 dollars that night and left with only two packets of ketchup.The next issue was that they messed up the whole order. I used to work with a guy from Lubbock, TX who was quite a character. He was a real foodie, and won quite a few cooking competitions with his barbecue, sauces and salsas. Well, there are Whataburgers in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and of course Texas, but none up in my neck of the woods. So one of my goals for our San Antonio trip was to check out Whataburger and its ketchup. We went to the Riverwalk location today and ordered two junior burgers, a regular burger with jalapenos and cheese, a few fries and a soft drink at the counter. When the server brought our tray to our table, we saw a lot of food for our $13.39. Actually, it was a lot of pretty good food! My junior burger was a pretty good size for $2.79 and it tasted great with lots of lettuce and tomato. The super fresh fries were thin and crisp -very good. I wanted ketchup, but Whataburger doesn't set out packets or pump tanks like the offer fast food burger joints. Instead, a server carries out a tray with salt, pepper, napkins, and packets of regular ketchup and spicy ketchup. Yup, I liked them both, especially the spicy version. It made my hamburger outstanding. Did I like Whataburger? Yes, I really did. The food was great, the service was very good, the whole experience was very enjoyable. This is the worst Whataburger I've ever been to. Every time I come they take over an hour to get my order. And at that, when I went up to the counter (after an hour) to ask where my food is at, he went and grabbed it quick like it was already ready they just didn't wanna grab it. I've been coming to this Whataburger ever since I moved back to SA and got my job in downtown and they're very friendly, always enough seating. You're in and out in minutes. Since I'm a regular, I've never been stopped when I'd return after lunch to refill my gallon size of ice tea which they call "medium" until yesterday when the Whataburger cop stopped me dead in my tracks. Apparently they're all in a huff about refilling your cup once you step foot outside the doors. The Ice Tea Police then instructed me to purchase another $2 Styrofoam Earth-killing cup or empty out the contents of my already filled mega jug of ice. After apologizing profusely for being a total corporate-interest jerk he offered to dump the contents for me to which I marched my barrel of ice and dumped it in the receptacle myself. There is no way in H E double hockeysticks that I'm going to pay $4 a day for flavored water! It is absurd how corporations make millions off of something they spend all of ten cents on. To add insult to injury, I can't reuse my styrofoam cup despite the fact that it will outlive all of us including the cockroaches! Realizing it's 11pm on Labor Day weekend, there is only one register open and the employee at the register continually leaves the register for some reason. The line to order took 30 minutes or more for most people. The fact that they were this understaffed was astounding. I understand that Covid has caused a shortage of workers, but this was beyond ridiculous. If it wasn't an absolute necessity to get food and there was anywhere else open, I would never have come here and waited this long. The answer is not well. I really love the flavors of In N Out. It feels fresh and healthy for fast food. But I found Whataburger to be bland - almost preferring McDonalds if I'm going to go there in the middle of the night for something I know will drown my arteries.
