Our server was a bit overwhelmed when we first sat down, but after greeting us, service was spot on. All the pasta is fresh and homemade. The lasagna was a big hit at our table, weighing in at almost 1 pound. I tried the Gnocchi as an appetizer portion. It reminded of my grandmas. Wow. What a fabulous meal our first night in Saratoga. These reviews were all over the place but most places were booked already so we gave it a try as they had availability. We were able to make reservations a couple days prior. Our waitress was busy but still attentive. The staff was really working hard as I observed. I give them A+ for all their efforts in trying to please and run smoothly so don't read the 1 star reviews that mostly state the service was not to their standards and not go. With that being said I will move on to the dinner. We started out with the Caprese and Eggplant Napoleon. I do not care for eggplant but this looked so good I had to try. I am craving it as I type this four days later. Caprese was just as fresh and fab and both apps were enough to share between four. Excellent. The herbed butter was a nice spread for the home made bread. There were a few specials offered but for the heck of it asked if there was anything else that could be their specialty that may not be on menu. Waitress said they can add scallops to their shrimp scampi dish which drew me in. Both were piled on a bed of angel hair. So fresh and delicious. Husband had the gnocci based on yelper advice and didnt disappoint. Friend had the creme brulee and said the crust on top was too hard. Maybe cooked too long? But that was only complaint. We made a mistake on paying and the waiter, wish we could remember his name, was very professional in pointing out our error. I'm surprised that the reviews for this place aren't better. I've visited Saratoga twice and eaten at Wheatfields twice. Nice atmosphere, very good service, and something for everyone . On the last visit, I had my 2 teenage daughters with me, one of whom is a vegan. I tend to eat fish, and my other daughter likes pasta. What a crew. This place was able to make us all happy. When they learned they had a vegan amongst us, they were very accommodating. I had the salmon- very good, one kid had a ceasar salad and gnocchi, and the vegan had bruschetta and vegan pasta. I had an afternoon alone today in Saratoga and visited Wheatfields for a delightful lunch! The bartender Anthony, was friendly and attentive. About as unremarkable $30 meal as I have ever had. Should have referred to Yelp before we stopped in. The kale spinach salad had the most acidic dressing and NO real flavor other wise. We've visited Wheatfield's every time we're in Saratoga, starting about 20 years ago! Food and service are both excellent. Today we stopped for lunch on our way to Vermont. We both had Great FRESH green salads. I had the macaroni and cheese - your mother didn't make it like this! My spouse had linguini and clam sauce with gluten free linguini and loved it. This low star rating isnt based upon the taste of our food because when it finally arrived (after being sent back because it was ice cold for one dish and the wrong item for the other) it was good. However, it was an 8 person bachelorette dinner party and after waiting an hour our food was brought out over a 30 munute period. 2 people got there food, then 20 minutes later 4 more and 15 minutes after that 2 more. On top of it we didnt receive any bread to our table over the first 40 minutes of sitting there. We had to ask our waitress twice at which point it was finally delivered. And i understand things happen, but noone said sorry or offered any kind of consolation. It wasnt until we said we would like to speak to the mgr did someone apologize and offer a discount. At this point we didnt want the money and left. When your are paying 20-30 dollars a plate for a meal you expect to have a better experience. I am knocking this down to a couple stars for the bait and switch operation these guys are running. First of all, all the entrees are priced in the five star restaurant range. This is not behaving a five star restaurant. We read the menu, and with a party with vegans/vegetarians and meat eaters, it appeared acceptable. What really drew us in was the happy hour offer (two for one) which we felt would somewhat offset the high menu prices. The food was satisfactory, the mac and cheese bland, and the steak salad void of any veggies but red onions and the steak not cooked medium rare as order, more like medium well. Well, getting back to the original reason I am writing this review; the manager gladly seats us at a window table, and we proceed to order drinks as advertised - but WAIT, the happy hour offer is ONLY AVAILABLE at the bar. All the locals around us are simply going to the bar and not utilizing the waitress to get their drinks. Well, if you are the manager of the this place, please reconsider this policy. We limited ourselves to one beer each as a result and we don't think the wait staff should be penalized for this hare-brained policy. BTW, the locals urged us to bypass the wait staff but I can't, I have waited tables, I know the drill. It's hard work. read more

I was pleasantly surprised. We went with a group of 9 and had a great meal. We went to the bar during happy hour and were pleased to find out that the drinks were buy one get one free! We went to Wheatfields the other night for a nice evening out. While there were a few places where they missed the mark, we still had a pretty good meal. The bruschetta was tasty and piled high. I didn't love the cucumber Riesling gazpacho. It was okay; I just didn't think the flavors harmonized very well. I thought the basil butter that they served with the bread basket was delicious. I loved the mussels; the marinara sauce was nice and spicy and went well with the shellfish. The chocolate mousse was the perfect end to things ... rich and creamy, but light enough to let us walk out the door rather than roll. My main complaint was with the service. Our server was attentive through most of our time at the restaurant, except for one long stretch after we were served our entrées during which she was M.I.A. for quite awhile. I'm pretty sure she was seated a few tables pretty much back-to-back, and I understand how difficult that can be, but I was just about dying from the aforementioned deliciously spicy mussels, and was all out of both water and wine. I could see the water pitcher sitting on a nearby counter, and after I had polished off both my glass and my husband's, I was seriously contemplating just getting up and refilling my water myself. Eventually my husband flagged down a server and asked for some refills (probably to save himself the embarrassment of being with the crazy lady helping herself to stuff off the service stand). Also, even though this is pretty minor, I do wonder why tables on the patio aren't given cloth napkins. Just because you're eating outside doesn't mean you need to feel like you're having a picnic. I think this restaurant could be better than it was on the night we experienced it. If they just tighten the screws a bit, I'm sure it could be a lovely place for dinner. read more

3/17/20 Restaurants were told they could only operate on a take-out basis, during the pandemic, which will be devastating to our downtown favorites. We just had our first take out meal from Wheatfields tonight, and will definitely order again! Plenty of good, hot, flavorful food. Dry chicken? No thanks. We visited Wheatfields for lunch on a Monday afternoon. The restaurant was quiet, but the host seated us next to another table (of loud talkers...), so we ended up sitting in relative silence while we waited for our meal. The arancini were good, but the pasta dish we'd ordered (with chicken) was nothing special, and the chicken itself was almost inedibly dry. We'd enjoyed sitting on the sidewalk at Wheatfields before, but after this experience and with so many other amazing places to eat in Saratoga Springs, we probably won't be back. read more

Our waiter was very friendly and accomodating (sparing him my wrath for the slow service), but was also very busy, and it seemed we were the only table he kept forgetting about. Food was good, perfect for a light outside lunch. Ordered bruschetta, salad, and the eggplant cipriani napolean (breaded eggplant, fresh tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, balsamic glaze). Not convinced the mozzarella was fresh mozz, and if it was it was not high quality cheese. White wine sangria and bloody mary were both good. Reasonably priced, nice atmosphere. Overall my excellent decision making skills tell me that this place could have been better, could have been worse. read more

Bravo to Wheatfields for their recent and effective Twitter campaign...it brought me in. Unfortunately, the experience was pretty pathetic. Our server was teetering on rude. We were, clearly, an annoyance to her. The food and drinks were worse. My martini was only half full and I could have had a child consume it...it was pretty much void of alcohol. The beet and goat cheese salad I had was yuk. Spring lettuce mix out of a bag, slimy beets (and I love beets!), and 2 little hunks of goat cheese. Polenta fries were so overly frizzled and burnt that they could have been fries of any sort...truly unrecognizable. Sadly a cruddy experience. You can do much better in Saratoga. read more

Was I just on Kitchen Nightmares? Because that's pretty much the only thing that could redeem our experience there. For starters, our waitress was invisible. Finally took our drink orders and I asked about the ingredients in some menu items for my egg allergic son. She came back after a rather long time with our drinks, and when I asked again about the ingredients, she said she forgot so she had to go back. Our food took at least 30 minutes to come out. I sort of wish it never had. Our food: ranged from terrible to mediocre. I got the antipasti platter as my entree. 2 slices of pepperoni, 2 slices of salami, some fresh mozzarella, some not as fresh tomatoes, some VERY not fresh grilled veggies. The worst: some "bruschetta" in the middle of the plate-which was actually just the bruschetta topping, and it tasted like it had been sitting around more multiple days. No bread for it (not that I would have eaten it) Also at our table: mediocre calimari, a mediocre meatball sandwich which came with inedible pasta salad. Also: a waitress who basically ignored us. We spoke with a manager to complain (which we NEVER do) and to their credit, gave us a bit of a credit on the bill. Even so, I would never go back. So gross. read more

We ended up here sort of by accident, on a drive from Montreal back to NJ, but it turned out to be a happy accident! We got into town around 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon, which isnt really a lunch or dinner time, but we were starving. Our orignal choice for lunch only served bar food at that time, so we went in search of anywhere that would feed us. We walked to Broadway, the main road in Saratgoga Springs, and since it was a beautiful warm day there were tons of people out. We saw Wheatfields immediately, and the fact that there were a lot of people dining outside was the main reason we went there. Contraty to what other reviewers have said, the two employees we encountered there were very friendly and pleasant, and we had no complaints about the service at all. Our waitress was attentive and great. I guess we got there in time for the lunch menu, as about 5 min after we got there, a family was given the dinner menu. I had the fettucine alfredo, which I was very happy with, and my brother had a chicken pesto sandwich, which he also really enjoyed. We both liked the bread and seasoned butter that came in advance of the meal. We loved the food, and the experience, and if I happened to be in the area again, I would definitely come back here. read more
