Wow. What a fabulous meal our first night in Saratoga. These reviews were all over the place but most places were booked already so we gave it a try as they had availability. We were able to make reservations a couple days prior. Our waitress was busy but still attentive. The staff was really working hard as I observed. I give them A+ for all their efforts in trying to please and run smoothly so don't read the 1 star reviews that mostly state the service was not to their standards and not go. With that being said I will move on to the dinner. We started out with the Caprese and Eggplant Napoleon. I do not care for eggplant but this looked so good I had to try. I am craving it as I type this four days later. Caprese was just as fresh and fab and both apps were enough to share between four. Excellent. The herbed butter was a nice spread for the home made bread. There were a few specials offered but for the heck of it asked if there was anything else that could be their specialty that may not be on menu. Waitress said they can add scallops to their shrimp scampi dish which drew me in. Both were piled on a bed of angel hair. So fresh and delicious. Husband had the gnocci based on yelper advice and didnt disappoint. Friend had the creme brulee and said the crust on top was too hard. Maybe cooked too long? But that was only complaint. Wheatfield's is a small Italian Restaurant located in the heart of Saratoga Springs, NY... I sat at the bar and my bartender/waiter was very kind and so helpful with recommending the highly recommended selections available on the menu. The soup was Butternut Squash Bisque - it was fabulous. However, for dinner I ordered scallops with an asparagus risotto and Tortellini with a pesto cream sauce. I was a bit disappointed with how the scallops and risotto was cooked. I'm still in the search of an amazing risotto! Any suggestions? The Tortellini with a pesto cream sauce was very pleasing with a glass of Malbec red wine... Atmosphere was very comfy, cozy and relaxing if you are just cold and want to go to a restaurant without having any concerns of being someone that you aren't. I'm surprised that the reviews for this place aren't better. I've visited Saratoga twice and eaten at Wheatfields twice. Nice atmosphere, very good service, and something for everyone . On the last visit, I had my 2 teenage daughters with me, one of whom is a vegan. I tend to eat fish, and my other daughter likes pasta. What a crew. This place was able to make us all happy. When they learned they had a vegan amongst us, they were very accommodating. I had the salmon- very good, one kid had a ceasar salad and gnocchi, and the vegan had bruschetta and vegan pasta. About as unremarkable $30 meal as I have ever had. Should have referred to Yelp before we stopped in. The kale spinach salad had the most acidic dressing and NO real flavor other wise. If I was writing this review based strictly on the food I would give 4 stars. However, I can't do that, the service was really 2.5 stars at best. Our server was not very attentive, every time she did come to the table it was to apologize for something she forgot to do- enter our app order, bring the wine that was ordered with dinner, and bring our check. Don't bother going if you have children. My husband and I went with our two year old we were basically thrown our food and rushed us out. My two year old was quiet and not making a fuss. They did not give us bread asked us what our order was two seconds after giving us our menus. Brought out our salad without giving us silverware. Before we could even finish our salads our entree was at the table. The waitress then asked if I was done when I still had more than half my food on the plate. The food was average at best. We've visited Wheatfield's every time we're in Saratoga, starting about 20 years ago! Food and service are both excellent. Today we stopped for lunch on our way to Vermont. We both had Great FRESH green salads. I had the macaroni and cheese - your mother didn't make it like this! My spouse had linguini and clam sauce with gluten free linguini and loved it. I've eaten at Wheatfields many times and I've had a positive experience in the restaurant. I have celiac disease and I cannot eat gluten and I am sensitive to cross-contamination, and I appreciate that Wheatfields offers gluten free options and that they're careful when dining in. That being said, there have been two occasions when I've ordered to-go and there have been serious errors in my order. Most recently, Mealeo said that the order would be ready by 1:03 PM and the person who scheduled the order with the kitchen misread it as 1:30 PM (the manager then said that this was an error on Mealeo's end, which it was not). Additionally, the gluten free baguette that I had ordered was a regular baguette, which is dangerous for me to eat had I not called to confirm that the order was incorrect. In my previous to-go order, I had been given regular pasta instead of gluten free pasta and again, had I not called to check, I would have been eating food that would make me extremely sick. read more

This low star rating isnt based upon the taste of our food because when it finally arrived (after being sent back because it was ice cold for one dish and the wrong item for the other) it was good. However, it was an 8 person bachelorette dinner party and after waiting an hour our food was brought out over a 30 munute period. 2 people got there food, then 20 minutes later 4 more and 15 minutes after that 2 more. On top of it we didnt receive any bread to our table over the first 40 minutes of sitting there. We had to ask our waitress twice at which point it was finally delivered. And i understand things happen, but noone said sorry or offered any kind of consolation. It wasnt until we said we would like to speak to the mgr did someone apologize and offer a discount. At this point we didnt want the money and left. When your are paying 20-30 dollars a plate for a meal you expect to have a better experience. I am knocking this down to a couple stars for the bait and switch operation these guys are running. First of all, all the entrees are priced in the five star restaurant range. This is not behaving a five star restaurant. We read the menu, and with a party with vegans/vegetarians and meat eaters, it appeared acceptable. What really drew us in was the happy hour offer (two for one) which we felt would somewhat offset the high menu prices. The food was satisfactory, the mac and cheese bland, and the steak salad void of any veggies but red onions and the steak not cooked medium rare as order, more like medium well. Well, getting back to the original reason I am writing this review; the manager gladly seats us at a window table, and we proceed to order drinks as advertised - but WAIT, the happy hour offer is ONLY AVAILABLE at the bar. All the locals around us are simply going to the bar and not utilizing the waitress to get their drinks. Well, if you are the manager of the this place, please reconsider this policy. We limited ourselves to one beer each as a result and we don't think the wait staff should be penalized for this hare-brained policy. BTW, the locals urged us to bypass the wait staff but I can't, I have waited tables, I know the drill. It's hard work. read more

I was pleasantly surprised. We went with a group of 9 and had a great meal. We went to the bar during happy hour and were pleased to find out that the drinks were buy one get one free! They also served cheese and crackers free at the bar. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The calamari was perfectly cooked and not at all chewy. The eggplant appetizer was big enough for a meal. We just had our first take out meal from Wheatfields tonight, and will definitely order again! Plenty of good, hot, flavorful food. Dry chicken? No thanks. We visited Wheatfields for lunch on a Monday afternoon. The restaurant was quiet, but the host seated us next to another table (of loud talkers...), so we ended up sitting in relative silence while we waited for our meal. The arancini were good, but the pasta dish we'd ordered (with chicken) was nothing special, and the chicken itself was almost inedibly dry. We'd enjoyed sitting on the sidewalk at Wheatfields before, but after this experience and with so many other amazing places to eat in Saratoga Springs, we probably won't be back. read more

The service was not good. They made a mistake with one of our meals and had to remake it. Instead of letting us know that there would be a delay, they let us sit and wait and wait and wait. While they were remaking the dish, they left the rest of our dishes sitting there. By the time we got our food, my french fries were completely cold and my boyfriend's pizza was soggy from sitting out with tomato on top. Aside from the service, I still would not recommend eating here. As an appetizer, we got bruschetta. There were barely any onions in it and it tasted like you were just eating tomato and balsamic on a piece of bread. For the meal, I got a chicken caesar wrap, which was not good at all. My boyfriend's father got a pasta dish that cost $20 and the portion was so small that he left there still feeling very hungry. When we got our check, that's when we found out about the mistake because there was something we didn't order on it that was then discounted. When we asked the waitress about it, she said it was the kitchen's fault, not hers (which is a lie because the waitress, not the kitchen staff, enters the items into the computer) and did not offer any kind of apology for the mistake or the wait. My family and I came here for my birthday lunch. The service was great, however the food was not good. I ordered a side caesar salad and the flatbread of the day. The caesar was very average and had nothing interesting about it. The flatbread came out cold and was very dry and flavorless. Nice ambiance. Great service. Very small portions and overall a pretty poor value for a meal. Though they say they measure out a 6 oz glass of white wine, serving it in a huge red wine glass just leaves you feeling like they are being über cheap with the vino. Rather they use a smaller wine glass. Adding chicken to the porcini radiatori and you get 4 tiny dry chicken...nuggets. Seriously. It was a chicken strip cut into 4 pieces. Tasted good but the portions of the kids menu spaghetti was larger than the adult. The linguini w claims also tasted good BUT small portions and the pasta was clumped together like it had not been stirred. PS. Five friends walk into Wheatfields... this place is warm and inviting to walk into. We started with a bottle of wine and the calamari. Wine selection was great and reasonable. The calamari was a little sauce heavy (think sweet and sour Asian) but the calamari were light and crispy and not chewy. Some us started with the house salad or a Caesar salad. My house salad was perfectly dressed. All the greens and veggies looked and tasted fresh. We ordered: the lobster ravioli, gnocchi, crab Mac n cheese, the porcini radiatori, and linguini and clams. All were really delicious and the pasta tasted fresh. The dishes that were cheese or cream based were heavy, but that's kind of to be expected. Serving sizes were HUGE. read more
