There was an argument on the next table who wanted lunch but he wouldn't show them the menu - eventually he agreed and said - but you can't order for another 15 minutes - doh wtf really Server omg so so slow. We ordered food and drinks and I think we waited about 20 minutes for the drinks to come (no sense of revenue earning here - still at least we drank less!) Food - I had some kind of fish Benedict think it was sole (can't recall it was a white slab of fish that was a special) - it was over cooked, kids had burrito wraps - not that tasty. Everyone here was very nice, friendly and knowledgeable! Our sever Rachel was wonderful and also helped me pick between two dishes. I'm so glad she did because the seafood feature was SO good and fresh! The feature was haddock stuffed with a spinach and roasted tomato, garlic herb risotto, incredibly seasoned (not salty) cauliflower and an herb cream sauce garnished with micro greens. My boyfriend got the sausage, pepper and onion pizza and we also enjoyed the bruschetta which I can be picky about as many places make it rather oily. It was great here! It was nice and dim with a slightly rustic feel, which was relaxing. The service was good, it was very speedy with friendly waiters. Second, the drinks. We got cranberry juice and seltzer water. They were both well above average. Thirdly, the food. The appetizer, the crispy calamari, was subpar, being soggy, bland, and messy. The entree, we got rosemary pork chop, with whipped mashed potatoes and salad. The salad and pork chop were amazing, but the mashed potatoes weren't amazing, but decent. Wheat fields was recommended and we weren't wowed. My husband had the steak over risotto with broccoli. Steak was good broccoli was definitely frozen and mushy and risotto was undercooked. I had the Chicken Rigi (Cherry Pepper, Bell Pepper, Mushroom And Pink Sauce) first was not a pink sauce , the pasta was harder than al dente and the chicken was pounded out mushy chunks. The restaurant makes close to 20 different shapes and flavors of pasta, along with popular bistro-style dishes for those who prefer vegetarian, beef, chicken, seafood, or their signature items. Inside the restaurant is a large bar area, which is quite popular for Happy Hour, and a large dining room for those who would prefer to eat their lunch, rather than drinking it. The lunch menu has some real creative small plate and appetizer choices, along with entrée salads, soups, pasta dishes, sandwiches, and pizzas. The dinner menu adds on a nice mix of bistro entrées with lots of seafood, chicken and steaks. There's also a vegetarian, gluten-free, Happy Hour, late night, and 3-course prix fixe Thursday menu. Plenty to choose from! When the weather cooperates, it's nice to sit outside under the awning, and people-watch as you enjoy your meal. This section of Broadway is always busy with mid-day shoppers and students from Skidmore College roaming up and down Broadway. I enjoyed the cool (non-humid) Summer breezes as I chose to dine al fresco. My meal started with a cup of their white bean, spinach and tomato soup in a chicken broth. That came with a small bag of the world's greatest oyster crackers from Rutland, VT. Next was the sandwich of the day, or in this case an Italian Flatbread Wrap made with pepperoni, soprasetta, provolone, and arugula pressed down onto the flatbread, and served with a side of pasta salad. Sadly I have to both update and downgrade my review. While there are still some things I really enjoy at Wheatfields.. still swear their calamari is the best. The menu is terrible. It's as Mark D. said; "dumbed down". It seems very shortened, I couldn't even find one tortellini dish on the menu. My daughter is a picky eater and she loved the tortellini here, it was nice to have this as an option for when we go out. Unfortunately I'm going to have to leave Wheatfields off the options list. Last time her pesto was more oil then anything else. The menu is very basic. For a place that makes it's own pasta, they certainly don't have an in-depth variety of it. They don't have specials of the sort they used to have, which were imaginative and tasty. Now it's just a daily special that never changes. The menu list them permanently, seems like it's just the token fish or veal dish for the most part. Service? Pretty sure they don't care and they seem to have the "you're lucky to be eating here" mindset. No staff members, you're lucky anyone eats at Wheatfields. If you're *realllllly* lucky even after your apathetic service, customers may still choose to tip you. I guess I'm going to move Wheatfields(hopefully just for now) to the drinks and nibbles list. It's challenging for me to be truly objective here, because in Wheatfields early days (I'm talking the 90s), it was one of my go-to places for very specific dishes. Among these was the lasagna primavera, truly the best vegetable lasagna I have ever had. It's been off the menu for quite a while. My first visit here in several years was okay but not memorable. The decor is pleasant, the bread is still crisp and warm. One plus now is that it's served with a good quality EVOO from Saratoga Olive Oil. I assume they still make their own pasta, which is still a plus. Yes, we did try the lasagna again - slightly less than what you used to get for about 60% more than in "the old days." It was okay. But I would have been glad to pay a little bit more to get a dish with more sauce and another layer of meat, or at least non-grey meat. Sides are separate, typically $4, and these are decent. Service was fine. But I noticed the front desk was left vacant a bit too often. This was not the fault of an inattentive hostess. This was because the hostess was overworked, often having to leave the stand to attend other issues. The wait staff often had to seat new customers. I would suggest whoever manages the restaurant to put fewer demands on the hostess so that she can do her job. The bar area was quite popular, and I believe they have happy hour deals. That appears to be the bigger draw for Wheatfields these days. read more

As surprising as it may be, Wheatfield's food is on par with some of the best I've had in New York City. And along a string of restaurants by the neighboring Hilton, this restaurant had the most reasonable prices. After a long day of attending and working at a nearby conference, my colleague and I were gearing up for a nice cozy meal here. I was going to settle for the beet salad at a relatively low price of $7. When we read through the specials, my dining counterpart was recommended the sweet potato gnocchi and I also ordered the Risotto Arancini appetizer. The beet salad was exceptional, given that they didn't use canned beets and the arugula was topped off with a fresh slice of fresh goat cheese on top. Easily 9 or 10 dollars in Manhattan, I was really pleased with what I ordered. I wish I could speak more to the salad, but the sweet potato gnocchi was arguably the best gnocchi I've ever had -- soft but not squishy and the perfect balance of alfredo sauce to finish off our bread with. The Arancini appetizer was amazing as well: deep fried arancini- (small oranges) shaped risotto, panko-encrusted mushroom with smoked gouda. And it didn't feel like a heart attack afterwards. I've been to the Clifton Park location once before and thought it was OK and that I would give Wheatfields another try but after Friday night, this will be my last visit to any location. A group of friends and I were looking for a place to eat in Saratoga on a Friday night without reservations (rookie mistake) and were told by every restaurant that their next available reservation wasn't for another two hours. We walked past Wheatfields and figured we'd see what they had for availability and somehow we were sat immediately. That was probably the only good thing about the whole experience. I ordered the red sangria, which was good but overpriced. I also ordered the calamari, which again was pretty good but over priced. The serving size wasn't too plentiful either. For my entree I ordered the lasagna and a side of meatballs (Don't judge I was hungry). Food came out pretty quick, but it lacked major flavor. The sauce was not hearty at all and it tasted like it was missing something. It was really liquidy and the tomato chunks looked like they were poured from a can. Overall, the lasagna tasted like it was frozen, reheated and served. Gross. Isn't homemade pasta their claim to fame? The meatballs were actually some of the worst I've ever had. They were so dry and again, flavorless. To top everything off halfway through my meal I got the worst pains in my stomach that lasted the rest of the night. I felt like I was going to be sick every 10 minutes. The value of what you're paying for just isn't there. All their entrees, apps and drinks are way overpriced by at least 3-4 bucks and are't worth it at all. Bland, flavorless, mediocre food. There's so many better options. read more

I came here on a Monday evening. It wasn't too busy and I sat outside on a brisk late September evening. It was Meatball Monday and I was greeted by the effervescent and delightful Kellsey. She said the meatballs were pretty freaking good (not as good as her mother's, but a close second). I ordered just one, with my dinner. The meatball was amazing. And huge. And I haven't eaten meat in a long time so this was a treat. The marinara was flavorful and thick. And the bread was crusty and chewy and delicious... But what I really ordered for my dinner was the Market Pizza. This was grilled veggies, goat cheese, hummus spread on a flatbread dough topped with greens. Really good, really fresh and probably pretty healthy too! Note: the Yelp! hours indicate that Wheatfields closes at 7, it does not. Also I read a review suggesting the antipasto platter was unacceptable the previous night. Kellsey brought me one that had just been made and it looked delicious (photo posted). Had a disappointing experience here and am unlikely to go back. There are a few good restaurants in Saratoga with gluten free options, but we decided to venture into this one for some gluten free pizza. We arrived when they first opened and were seated at an outdoor table. The table itself rocked horribly, so we were easily seated at another since it was empty. The server was very friendly and cheerful, but she didn't seem knowledgeable about what on the menu was gluten free, or if things were prepared in a dedicated oven. My dining companion had to ask for gluten free bread and we received it, but I think it's still a plus that they had any at all, as a lot of places usually don't. The drinks were served quickly, but what really gets 3 stars is the food. I got a pizza and my partner decided to get pasta. For whatever reason, it took a really look time to make the pasta. We waited about 45 minutes for the food, and if that wasn't bad enough, it was cold. The waiter came out at one point and told me that the pizza was ready but the pasta wasn't. Ten - count them, ten - minutes later, she brought me the pizza because she "felt bad that it was dying in the window." Like, it was nice of her to do that but at that point the first slice was lukewarm, and then the second slice was cold. I thought about asking her to reheat it, but my partner's dish was cold too, and considering how it was supposed to be "just out" I'm wondering if there was a mix-up with another table or something. The dessert - a chocolate torte cake - was good, but we were told that it wasn't made in house, so that was a bit disappointing. They didn't have many gluten free options available for dessert either way. All in all, I don't think I'll be back here again just because of how long it took to get the food when it wasn't even all that crowded. I came here for a business dinner last night really not expecting a whole lot. But I was pleasantly surprised by both the quality of the food and service. I had a chicken marsala with homemade linguine that was really really tasty. Also, I could not eat the whole thing. There was a chocolate mousse for desert that was also delicious. I don't understand the hype of this place. The two times I've visited with friends, I regretted mid way through our meal. Service is sub par at best- mistook orders, wrong order and horrible attitude. Most of my party rated their meal as average and my SO's meal could not be eaten even though it came out 25 mins after everyone else. We're local but haven't been to Wheatfields for many years. A fixed price menu for restaurant week drew us back for another try. It was good. I don't understand some of the criticisms that others made. We thought the decor was very nice with incredible paintings of local buildings on all the walls. Couldn't tell who the artist was. Woodwork was simple but nice with nothing gaudy. If you are up front, you have a pretty view of Broadway. Also, we were there off-season so there was no touristy feel about the clientele or atmosphere. Waitress was neat and professionally reserved. No problem. Our dinners were OK with a very good Caesar salad, good pasta dishes, and so so deserts. The bread basket that another praised was nothing special. Issues: A bread plate was dirty with a very small spot of baked on food. It wasn't gross but still ... The stem of my wine glass was dirty and sticky. The rest of the glass was fine. How did that happen? Finally, someone made a very bad choice for the low end cabernet sauvignon. Thankfully I asked for a taste because it was dreadful with off flavors and too warm. With so many low priced, good wines from places like Chile, this is inexcusable. I ended up with a Temperanillo that was OK but obviously crafted for nondiscriminating drinkers. That's a lot of issues but none are serious. Wheatfields was in total $7 more than another local Italian restaurant but it was much, much better. Enjoyable front patio. Very good Arancini. We had the sausage and broccolini raviolis and one of the specials: shaved beef in marsala sauce over zitti. The special was really tasty with peppers balancing nicely the marsala sauce. We were however expecting way better from the sausage and broccolini ravioli. The ravioli were basically pasta dough around sausage meat and the broccolini sliced stems (not the yummy florets) were only present in a rather oily sauce.
