So much fun! We had 8 of us and we went for four hours, everything went great and the bikes were fabulous! (We used Electric Bikes) the controls were easy and the battery was long lasting! The bikes weren't fully electric but I didn't break a sweat the entire time and it was four hours! There was a nice path that was easy to follow and was very beautiful! Always a great experience with Wheel Fun! Located just off the canal between the amphitheater and the state museum. They have several bike options but I've always gotten the double or single surrey bike. You can fit 4 adults or a couple of adults and many kids. The staff is so helpful and explains how to operate the surrey. There's a helpful map that also has their phone number in case you fall into the canal or something. Only kidding! You won't... Maps said they were open. They weren't. The sign on the kiosk said that they open at 2pm. So we sat around waiting. A person showed up at 2pm. I waited until the kiosk was open and walked up. The person "working" just stared at me. I said, "Hi" and the response was "What do you want?" I explained that we wanted to rent two 2-person bikes and the person said, "In 30 min." We didn't have 30 min and I asked if they could just unchain that one section since we were renting two of the same bikes. "It takes me 30 min to set up," was the grumpy response. We only had an hour to spare, so we had to leave. Meanwhile setting up involved putting out the flag. I can certainly see why that was the priority. read more

Given that Indianapolis has spent $62 million on great new downtown bike paths, we figured it would be worth our while to fork over a few of our own pennies for afternoon rentals. For the record, there is a bike share program (Pacers Bikeshare) here, and it's open for tourists to use, but the pricing structures favor commuters (annual memberships) and short rides (less than 30 minutes). We also saw that some area bike shops offer rentals too, but those emphasized the need for advance reservations, something we weren't willing to do, given the unpredictability of spring weather in this part of the country. So we went with a last-minute stop at Wheel Fun, which seems to get most of its business renting novelty vehicles like surreys, tandems, and "choppers", and which seems to hire seasonal teenage labor rather than bike geeks. But their hybrid bikes were fully functional, and just what we wanted for an afternoon of exploration. read more

One can rent a double surrey for $35/hour. The surrey has a map at the "dash," allowing you to see where you can pedal around. In the two times I've ridden on a double surrey we explored the canal and White River State Park. I recommend the surreys especially if you have visitors in town and want to show them around these areas of Indianapolis. (Bonus: there are photo opportunities of Indy's picturesque skyline.) It's a great alternative to renting individual bikes. PS: You can also rent a single surrey and individual bikes. PPS: If you have kiddos under 14 with you, then they are require to wear helmets, which Wheel Fun Rentals does provide. PPPS: Wheel Fun Rentals does sell water for $2.00/bottle. read more

I was able to join Yelp on a double surrey for Bike to the Ballpark! It's such a fun way to see downtown Indy! I highly recommend coming down here on a nice day and exploring the area on one of their unique bicycle-type vehicles. The cultural trail is nice as it's wide enough for the surreys. I will definitely come down here in the future to bring friends and family to a fun, interesting day in downtown Indy. read more

They have tons of options for every age, shape and size. They let you try them out to make sure they will work for you as well. Decently priced per hour. We found that an hour was plenty of time to wear us out. You pay at the end of your use with a ten minute grace period on each hour which is nice. We rented a double surry for our 5 teenagers and we rode a deuce coupe. We were having a nice afternoon ride until the front wheel of our vehicle blew. We called the staff immediately and were informed it was our responsibility to get the bike back to the shop. This was an impossibility due to the condition of the blown tire. The oh-so helpful staff continued to say it was our responsibility. If we dragged the bike back to the shop we wouldve damaged the rim and were not willing to do that. So we left the bike and walked back to the shop. Upon return the staff comped our "rental fee" but then proceeded to charge a "maintenance fee" because apparently its the customers responsibility to repair equipment when it breaks down during the rental period. I was very disappointed in our customer service experience. Had this situation been handled differently i would be leaving more favorable review. read more
