The generous second star is for the restaurant. The waitress was great. And if you sit in the restaurant, you risk having a good time. The bar is awful. The bartenders mix a nice drink, and treat you like you're on probation while doing it. Believe me: the five-star reviews you see are from the neighborhood locals. Insularity favors insiders. But to show up from out of town is to encounter an unsettling coldness. A hostile provinciality. That snotty, loud-mouthed, you're-not-from-around here bullshit. This is by far, my favorite local bar. It's one of those old school no frills bars with wood panel walls. needless to say it's nothing fancy but, the service and food are spot on. You can't go wrong with anything you get here or at least I havnt. I have had the pilgrim wrap, the philly cheese steak, buffalo wings, steak tidbits and finally my beloved roast beef "all the way" sandwhich. Everything I have tasted was not only delicious but surprisingly amazing. In fact, I stopped by last night for some dinner and beers and was literally singing and dancing in my chair as I was eating my roast beef sandwich. Its warm roast beef prepared medium rare(so its slightly pink in the middle) covered in gorgeous Au jous (gravy) topped with melted mozzarella and served on toasted garlic bread. This was by far my favorite dish at Wheeler's but as I've mentioned everything I've ever had there was delicious. On top of the amazing food this bar dishes out everything is really reasonably priced which is another reason I really live to give these people my money! They always have a nice selection of beer on tap and there bar is fully stocked! I highly recommend this place it is definitely a go to spot for me to get amazing food and have a nice adult beverage. read more

The chances of seeing a flyover state, parentally funded, coffee stirrer-physiqued, bearded Civil War General impersonating "artist" here are fucking ZERO. Cheap food, cheap drinks, Brooklyn accents galore sprinkled with a little Ruski. Lots of Rangers, Giants, Jets, Mets, Yankees fans all year round. No Cleveland or Wisconsin team fans ever who would probably get suplexed right into Sheepshead Bay if they ever dared to venture that far down into ACTUAL Brooklyn. Had the chicken wings for the first time this past summer, don't know why I didn't have them before that because they were GREAT! Best burgers in the area, always cooked to my liking, medium rare. The tortellini carbonara is awesome and there's enough to take leftovers home. Great french onion soup in a crock, fried zucchini and mozzarella sticks are yummy, as are the baked clams but they're a bit small. Oh, and great beer selection, tap and bottles. read more

After years of coming here, as more of a grounding experience, from the airiness of North Brooklyn. It's an awesome, no-nonsense bar to come have a few drinks in and it's the only one of it's kind in this area, as well. As straightforward as bars come. Food isn't bad either. Wings are hit or miss, and are usually just fine. The buffalo chicken wrap is a favorite, as well as the Pilgrim wrap and cheesesteak. People do stop in here for burgers , as Wheelers does have probably one of the best burgers on Sheepshead Bay Rd. Prices on drinks are right and staff has always been pretty cool. read more

Cheap drinks great food, I'm IN! I went here last night for the first time with my friend and it was great! Their drinks are cheaper than most places and everywhere I looked people wouldn't stop talking about how great their food was! Even the bouncer came up to us and was telling us about how we need to try the steak! I had originally thought this was a dive bar walking in, but then realized it really was a nice restaurant attached and it was a really fun environment. They have a WORKING jukebox so that's always fun! Anyways back to the drinks and food: Stella on tap = my favorite. I wasn't looking to try anything huge considering a few hours before getting there I had just had dinner but I did need to try something on the menu! So I kept it safe and ordered the buffalo wings. This is just a review for the atmosphere and the bar, not the food since I did not have any. The service is amazing and the drinks are good and cheap!! Like really cheap compared to any other place. The atmosphere is why I really like the place. It's a local neighborhood bar so there are a lot of regulars. I'm not local to the area, but everyone is extremely friendly! It's a great place for a relaxing evening or an evening of getting straight up drunk with friends (as long as you're civil and don't drink and drive!) I would definitely recommend if you're looking for something low key. read more

Hey guys. I was in attendance last night & had my usual great time with my regulars. My bartenders John, Jimmy, Jack & Danny always do a stellar job. Wheelers is the place where everybody knows your name.....lol. Last night was particularly special. The clean sound of the music was different than at any time in the past. I started playing my music but unbeknownst to me Mike (the owner) changed jukebox vendors without telling me. I ran back to the dining room and grabbed Mike to congratulate him for finally getting new speakers. He said I didn't get new speakers JB, that improved sound is actually from the upgraded jukebox. Well you could have knocked me over with a feather. He's got touch tunes now of which I have the app, and I've been using it for years. I started playing music and thought I died and went to heaven. You see, I'm a frustrated DJ and now that I could listen to my music more clearly I most likely will install a bed in the back and never leave. Wheelers is, was, and always will be my go to place for great food, drink, company, & most of all great music. Hey Mike. Definetly me and Hubby's spot for some good drinks, and good food. I can honestly say we never get past the appetizer menu. We always order the same 4 appetizers, because they never dissapoint. This place has an old Brooklyn feel, An "old man" bar right off the train station. Cozy decor and friendly staff. They have the best wings you will ever have! No fancy flavors for the wings; just buffalo but still amazing. The chili is decent, and the nachos supreme are worth a try. They have decent beers on tap but nothing really special. Wheelers never fails.. My boyfriend and I came one night when we were in the neighborhood and wanted to get something by quick to eat. Regardless anytime I come here the bar always has a decent crowd, and it's nice that they separate the dinning section for people who are just trying to have a meal rather than drink. We sat and were given menus by our waitress who was very sweet, we both ordered a drink and than looked over the menu for a little bit. Wheelers has the typical bar food menu, but also offers some full dinner options which gives a nice variety. I ordered the French onion soup and an app and the chicken capricciosa salad for my entree, and my boyfriend ordered a grilled chicken wrap. They're both menu items that you can't really mess up, and we were both satisfied with our dinners. The service was good and ambience was nice, I'll be back if I'm in the area. read more

This is THE best sports bar in South Brooklyn. Alcohol is very reasonably priced, lots of beer on tap choices including a new Heineken Light station. The best part? The food is amazing! They actually have a restaurant part of the place that really opens up when you walk to the back. The wings and mussels in white sauce are phenomenal. Staff is always friendly. Jukebox so you can play your own music if you'd like. Yelp says they're open till 2AM but thats just when they stop serving food. They're open till 4 AM 7 nights a week. read more

I loved it. First off as someone born way too late for the classic rock era(I'm 22), it was nice to find a place playing all the classic rock hits. If I went to one more place playing the current crap spewed into society(or even worse the braincell stealing crap in williamsburg and parkslope), I was gonna crack. THANK YOU for that alone. Wheelers is an occasional escape for me, because I'm an American living with the Russian people of Brighton Beach, and let me tell you...these peope are different. That being said, I discovered this little oasis of Americanism on the edge of Sheepshead Bay and have frequented this place a number of times since. It's usually pretty crowded with locals on the weekend. A "beers and ballgame" type of place that has 4 large flatscreen tv's playing sports over the bar, and a dinning area in the far back. The prices are decent, about 3 bucks a beer and 4 bucks for a shot. They never had any "specials" every time I asked. As far as the service goes, its just OKAY and the bartenders are very neutral (personality-wise) and always seem like they dont wanna be there. From what I have been told (by other patrons), the food is good, but I havent tried any yet. Overall, this is a decent bar. Nothing outstanding, but a good local getaway at times. read more

I was led to believe that this place was only reserved for lecherous old men and people with affairs. For a long time, I believed this and thus why I've stayed away from Wheeler's. Then E's birthday came up and his friends wanted to meet here for a quick drink after dinner. I was really surprised at how well-lit and non-sketchy it was inside. Prices were decent, the bathrooms were clean, and the customers come in all shapes and ages. They have tons of big screens for you to follow your sports teams and service was pleasant. We came for a birthday party. We were around 17 people and we took 2 bar tables after asking 2 of the wait staff if it was ok to do so. We were there for an hour and no one came to see if we wanted to order. There were 2 tables in the bar table area that were being served and the wait staff literally walked through us, as if we were not there, to take care of the other patrons. I finally had to stop one of the waiters to ask if we can have menus. A half an hour later, I had to stop another waiter to ask if they can serve us. After all that the manager or owner came over and reprimanded us for taking more than 1 table, abruptly kicking us off the other table, and ushering another party (who he obviously knew) to the vacated table. He then escorted a waitress to them and introduced her to the party and said she would take care of you. What the hell?!?!? 9 out of the 17 people were left standing. We got discussed and elected to spend our money elswhere. We were ready to indulge and spend a lot of money there and that meant nothing to them. It seems like it has a decent amount of neighborhood patrons and they are happy with there regulars. They don't seem to welcome new business. Everyone else that seemed to be a regular was greeted with smiles and we were just completely ignored. Maybe it would have been a better experience if I went with a smaller party. Maybe this review will be in vain since they are really busy and this will have no effect on there bottom line. Maybe there food is as good as the reviews say it is...... I'll never know. read more

Came out here on a weekday afternoon and wasn't disappointed. Food: I ordered a steak and shrimp fajita (this combo isn't specifically on the menu) with Buffalo wings as my appetizer, no sauce. The fajitas were very delicious. My steak and shrimp was brought out on a sizzling cast iron plate. The steak was tender and the shrimp was well seasoned. The Spanish rice and black beans was somewhat under-seasoned but the meat balanced it out. The sauceless wings was underwhelming. The chef clearly relies on the sauce for flavor because the chicken didn't have a hint of salt. Sad. Service: My waiter was very attentive and checked on me often. He mixed up one of my orders but that probably was a communication error that I created. read more

A friend in my building suggested this place for a great hamburger and on a whim I went Saturday night. I go in and sit at the front left bar. I order a hamburger. The waiter wasn't very friendly really. I ordered a draft beer and waited. And I waited. The waiter never once acknowledged my being there. After an hour, I finally asked where my food was, since the place wasn't that busy. He goes to check, but only makes it as far as the end of the bar. Never comes back to me. Another fifteen minutes go by and finally I had to yell at him, "It's been over an hour now, could you PLEASE find out where my order is?" He finally goes to the kitchen and returns with my food. The hamburger was ok. But after an hour, I would have eaten anything. Horrible service and the place has an odd smell too, like a chemical cleanser or something. While it's something of a landmark in Sheepshead Bay, I don't know why. read more

This 4 star rating is strictly for the dining part of this establishment. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly. The burgers are awesome! That is usually what i will have when dining here. The seafood is very good as well. Once had the seafood salad and it was spot on. If you are in the mood for a bacon cheeseburger with fries, i highly recommend you have it here. It is what it is, and I kinda mean that as a compliment. Not many casual bars in the Sheepshead Bay area and this one's not a bad place to hang out for a while. I've been drinking here off and on for a decade and the place is relaxed, there are TVs, and the music doesn't suck. There's finally an IPA on tap - thank you! - and the food is actually quite good for a neighborhood bar. I'm a strict vegetarian and I can actually eat here, which is very surprising, since I can't eat most places in the neighborhood. That said, take it from a South Brooklyn girl - the attitude here is pretty South Brooklyn. Nothing fancy and no pretension - even though they could probably use a little more - and the place is loud and customer service isn't the best. For example, my husband ordered a pasta dish that came with salad once and asked if he could substitute it for a soup. The waitress said very curtly with a straight face and no other words: "No." No explanation or other offerings, just "No." Take it or leave it. And don't get me started on the cultural and political weirdness of Sheepshead Bay, but that's another story. So... not the friendliest or the classiest and it kinda feels like it's the 1970s in here, but overall, it's a good place to get a beer and relax. read more
