Our Spanish explorer blood has inspired us to visit all 7 continents and numerous countries in our travels. This winter we are headed to Morocco, in Northern Africa, among other places. So it was our desire to get familiar with the cuisine, prior to the trip. Moroccan Bites was our choice and we couldn't have been happier we found it. The owner's daughter was our server and since she is from Marrakech, we took her suggestions on what to order. Not only was she extremely friendly, she took the time to prepare us for the culture we are about to experience and provided much needed help. For our meal, we went with an eggplant app and wifey and I ordered the Lamb couscous plus the Chicken Pastilla to share. The couscous meal was loaded with veggies, lamb and of course, couscous. The flavors were delicate and not overpowering at all. The Chicken Pastilla dish can pass for a desert with the cinnamon and powder sugar on top of a light pastry, just like a pie. It was my favorite entree of the night. Don't forget to try the mint tea. It's served hot and sweet and might actually give my Texas ice tea addiction a little competition. You shouldn't travel to a foreign land without trying their dessert options, or even travel across town as it was in our case. The glass display case caught our attention immediately, even before we sat down to look at the menu. We couldn't decide on what sweets to try, so we compromised and ordered several different kind of things. From the lemon cake to the Baklava, it was all very delicious. The Baklava is French like in its flaky texture and light enough to put down half a tray if given the chance. The inside of the restaurant is clean, has ample tables and is decorated in the country's cultural theme. It's been a while since I had the opportunity to enjoy this place and it was worth the wait. As always the staff is so nice and attentive. The entrees were prepared to perfection. The lamb with prunes was a first. The spices and tenderness of the lamb was so savory. The basmati rice complimented the dish nicely. You don't need to take a trip to Casablanca or Marrakech to sample a taste of Morocco. I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem while in San Antonio. It's located at an unassuming strip mall along in a busy commercial district. When you walk in, you are greeted by a multitude of photos and cultural memorabilia adorning the walls. One photo in particular captured my attention - the one featuring none other than Guy Fieri. Come to find out, he showcased this establishment on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives! The owner is a kind lady who immediately seats you with a smile. The interior is inviting and has ample seating throughout. I looked over the menu, which featured a variety of classic Moroccan dishes from soups to tagine, and everything in between. I started with a large mint tea, a specialty drink that typically encompasses loose leaf gunpowder green tea steeped with mint leaves and sugar. As I wasn't very hungry, I opted for a side of lentils. When the pot of tea arrived, it was brought to the table on a tray and poured into a short decorative glass! Although hot, the first sip flooded my taste buds with bliss and joy! The fusion of mint and tea leaves with just the right amount of sugar was sensational, refreshing, and quite satisfying. Next, complementary bread was brought out, after which came the lentils. The lentils were adequately portioned and were both savory and abundantly filling. There were so many more items on the menu that I wanted to try, but I left most of my appetite at home. Came here after watching the DDD episode on TV. My wife and I are always looking forward to trying new cuisines. We placed the order online and picked up Moroccan hummus and merguez sandwich. The Moroccan hummus was delicious. It was more of a soup than hummus but still great as an appetizer. The sandwich was good too, especially after adding some heat. I have been here twice and both times were amazing! The service and people are almost as good as the food! The food tastes like someone really loves making it. This time I had the lamb shank with apricot. The meat was fall off the bone tender and seasoned so well, but the flavor of the lamb came through. The broth it was served it was so delicious I could just drink it out of the bowl and be happy. The apricots on top really kicked it up a notch (same with the lamb shank with dates). My brother had the chicken pastilla. I was hesitant about it because of the powdered sugar, but I tasted his and I don't know how it all came together but it did! I was kinda sad I didn't order that, until I tasted my dish again, and fell in love with it all over again. The love from the owner and people working there is so warm and welcoming. We have been here multiple times in the past few months. We have been doing curbside and pick-up orders for so long and this was the first place we sat down in for a meal in a few years. The first time we came in on a whim and discovered that we had come in at a very busy time - just before sunset on a night during Ramadan. The staff were all very clearly incredibly busy preparing foods for families that would be breaking their fasts soon. We were greeted warmly and given excellent and attentive service. When the owner learned that I have Celiac and food allergies, she came to speak with us directly. We had already spoken with someone a few weeks previously about potential allergy protocols. She went over her knowledge of the issues for someone with Celiac and her commitment to ensuring I could safely dine in her restaurant. Everything was delicious - the spiced olives, the lamb and apricot dish my dining companion had, the bed of saffron rice my meal arrived with. The mint tea is amazing - I highly recommend it - and the owner shared how to make it at home and we bought a box of the tea required. Nadia helped curate the perfect vegan meal. We shared the Veggie Tagine which was so rich in flavor and chock full of stewed veggies, with a side of the basmati rice. The rice alone was so flavorful that the combo knocked it out of the park. We also split the vegan couscous. It had similar ingredients to the Tagine but was such a totally different flavor profile. I definitely suggest trying both! The serving size of each dish could easily feed 2 people, but if you are hungry like we were, you will not leave anything on your plates. I have never officially had Moroccan food. I was invited here by my friend to check it out. It does not look like a lot from the parking lot, but once you step inside, the decor is beautiful. I was greeted as soon as I came in the door. My fried ordered us Mint tea and it was delicious and soothing, it is a must-have. I reviewed the menu and decided on the meat combo plate, which comes with chicken, lamb, and beef. My friend ordered the lamb tagine. I also ordered the yogurt sauce. Everything was seasoned so well, and the yogurt sauce was refreshing. We really enjoyed our food. The staff were friendly and attentive. Great food here, not a single strong flavor that hides the great taste of the chicken and fresh homemade aroma that really hit the palate. First time trying Moroccan food and boy oh boy, it was very tasty delish to the nth power! The two (2) ladies who served us was like yin and yang, they balance each other. The more senior lady (I think she was the same lady with Guy Fieri many many years ago on TV) was a bit harsh and not really warm and hospitable but the other younger lady was extremely warm, friendly and always all smiles. We learned that all their service crew for the day called-in for the Labor Day and it ended up just the two (2) of them doing everything. Thanks for the younger lady, she saved our day with her hospitality and perfectly pleasing personality that complemented their delicious food. We started with the Moroccan Hummus--uniquely presented, the chick peas are not mashed or blended and it's served warm--and the Zaalouk--delicious eggplant appetizer, we thought bread would be served with it but it's actually delish. We also have the chicken tag in with veggies and rice, half chicken with rice, gyro and lamb with rice. Very satisfying and I even have the left over chicken and rice to go, my lunch the next day. Just very interesting to note, just realized it when I got home, they charged for "convenience fee" I should have not added a tip and the to go container was also charged, we were never told about that. That's something to think about, we may not go back here, the food was great, although the younger lady have great customer service, the more senior lady owner was not pleasant at all. A Saudi friend of mine recommended this place to me. I was concerned that I would be sitting on a floor and eating with my hands by myself. But they have tables and chairs and silverware in case you are worried about that. I did not see any extra rooms for that type of dining experience here. I ordered the green hot tea (sweet), kabob platter and Moroccan salad. Salad never arrived. The platter comes with rice and lentils. The lamb was very tender and cooked perfectly. It blended nicely with the basmati rice and lentil beans. My waitress was direct and efficient. Sat here wondering if I pay the bill or go up to the counter for quite some time. Nobody asked if I wanted dessert either. The waitress just walked by a 2nd time and don't ask if I was ok or wanted to pay. Starting to feel uncomfortable....do I get up and ask? Wait? Hold my card up? Ok. You go up and pay.... Nobody mentioned that. I was almost charged for the salad I didn't get but mentioned it and they took it off my bill. Well, once again I re-visited a restaurant only to learn that, for whatever reason, I did not review it the first time. I came here with my son at least six years ago. I know it has been that long because the restaurant has shifted one store over from where it was when we ate there. I asked the owner today if they had remodeled, and she told me they switched store locations six years ago. I was shocked to hear that my first visit had been that long ago. I remember that my son and I loved everything we had on that visit and swore we would be back. But, because of our habit of chasing down "new to us" ethnic restaurants, we just never had time for a return. Today, I was once again eating lunch with a group of retired school teachers. We arrived just as they were opening up. There were three ladies there that went through the door with us. I assume that at least one of them was the owner. We sat at a big table on the back wall but close to the dessert cabinets. I'll talk about the desserts later, but several of us agreed we would go there for tea and dessert alone. They looked and tasted that good. I ordered a pot of hot mint tea. It was served in a cute little silver-toned tea pot on a pretty little silver tray. It smelled wonderful and got stronger as I worked my way through the pot. It was lightly sweetened and really accompanied my meal well. That meal was lamb shank cooked with almonds and prunes. Knowing that I would be that rude guy who "sops" in public, (Mama told me NEVER to do that!) I opted for Moroccan bread instead of saffron rice. That turned out to be the best choice for me, as the gravy that the lamb was cooked in was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. The spices were very exotic and really knocked my socks off. The lamb was "falling off the bone" tender, but I did break another of Mama's rules and sucked the last of the meat right off the bones. The menu I saw online mentioned that, for $9.00 more, I could get extra meat. Trust me when I say that is absolutely not necessary. They put plenty of meat on the plate to please this fat man. My fellow guests ordered differently. Three of them ordered the chicken kebob sandwiches. I asked why they didn't at least go for the lamb kebob and got the impression that lamb did not sound appetizing to them. Two of the ladies ordered the gyro sandwiches, which in my eyes aren't even Moroccan. I am probably wrong. After all, I haven't been there. One of us ordered the Shrimp Peal Peal. It came in a tagine like my lamb did. The last person in the group had baklava cheesecake and an order of saffron rice. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals to the fullest. I did not see the usual to go boxes that we old retired folks are known for. Several of us ordered desserts- most to go. Those who ate them in-house said they were good. I don't remember what anyone got but myself. They had two special Ramadan desserts. I got one of them. It is called Slilo. It is made from a roasted flour that is mixed with butter, honey, ground almonds, ground sesame, other ground nuts and spices. They had a huge bowl with a mound of it on the counter top. They take that and mold it into a cookie shape with an almond on it. It was so delicious. It was grainy and flavorful, but not too sweet. I loved it. All of the staff was accommodating. They patiently answered all of our questions about the food and how it was prepared. The lady that I assume was the owner even took the time to tell me how to use the Moroccan spices that I bought for both my son and myself. I can't think of anything negative to say about this place. It was roomy but cozy. It was super clean. The decor was definitely Moroccan themed, and the music that was playing was beautiful and exotic sounding. The service is great here and the people are super nice! I loved trying the chicken tagine and the lamb shank with prunes. Both tasted really good and the portion sizes are huge. Their hummus is also excellent. I've eaten here twice and both times I am amazed at the flavor from the food. It's a mixture of spices and raisins that I would be too fearful of attempting to cook at home. Their rice is also interesting, as it is yellow and has a amorous flavor. The chicken is soft and full of the flavors from Moroccan spicies. The prices are reasonable as expected of a niche restaurant ($15-20). It's in a small shopping center and not easily noticeable. I have been to about 5 of restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Only one of them has been really good. I recommend not following Fieri recommendations lol. When we walked in, we were seated immediately. The restaurant was clean, decorated nicely, and nicely spaced out. The food came out relatively quickly and looked beautiful. We got the lamb with steamed vegetables and merguez. Both were okay. The lamb was still a bit chewy and not as tender as hoped. I used to like this place because the food is good but one time I went there around 20 minutes before closing to order some take out and when I walked in the lady gave me a very unfriendly look and said "what do you want!" very rudely. I explained that I just wanted to order some take out. She didn't seem very pleased but let me order anyway. Even the younger woman at the register didn't seem very nice that evening. Type in the word "rude" in the search window for the reviews and you'll see that I'm not the only one who has experienced this here. Ordered an entree, extra rice and a vegetable side. The vegetable side was $7 and wasn't even cut the way it was last time, or in the dish preview. Chopped instead of cut. And the portion was minuscule. That's a running theme. Overpriced dishes restive to the portion size. I guess they thought it was a takeout order, so they can short the portion? Very cute family owned restaurant with traditional decor. They check your temperature at the door and the seating is spaced out. This was my first time eating Moroccan food and I loved it. You must have a pot of the fresh mint tea! The food is flavorful and I love the authentic presentation. Our server, Waffa, is the daughter of the owner and she treated us like family.
