The place is very nicely decorated, good ambiance, good seating. Service was slow but they are minimally staffed, so come with patience! Food was really good, we both got bowls and took 1/2 home. I don't have much to compare the food at Tripoli's to as I have not had much Middle Eastern food, but I did love the dish that I ordered. I had a Tunisian chicken rice bowl. All of the ingredients were fresh, flavorful, and abundant in my bowl. The aïoli sauce on top truly completed the dish. We had good service but when we visited, there was only one other table so our weight was short. The dining area is clean and beautiful. It's very appealing. Menu had some interesting tasty dishes that were very reasonable. Note that it is a dry establishment where no alcohol is served. Food took a bit long to come out of the kitchen, as well as flagging someone down to pay our bill. My mocktail- oum kalthoum- quite floral in flavor with heavy notes of rose. I really enjoyed this place. Food was great. Our waitress was excellent. They have many options on their menu. They also have baked goods, coffee and tea. We went for lunch, but I want to return for just a hot beverage and a baked good one day. For lunch, I had the chickpea salad with the zaatar manakeesh. This is a cheese flatbread with zaatar spices. The chickpea salad is a good portion for being the half portion. It comes on a bed of arugula with chickpeas, red peppers, and feta. It is topped with a lemon herb vinaigrette. For dessert I had a small pastry with date. I don't remember what it was called, but it is one of their baked items. It reminded me of a fig newton. I did try their rose tea. Decided to stop in just to try out something different. We left satisfied, we asked the server to surprise us and he brought out Libyan couscous. My friend and I enjoyed it, I'd say it wasn't anything wildly flavorful per se but it was good. We ordered two pomegranate limonadas and they were incredibly sweet and I have a very big sweet tooth. Recent visit to Tripoli's. It took 10 minutes to be visited by waitress when there was only ONE other table occupied; it felt awkward and we almost left. However, we started off with chickpea salad appetizer. It was good but there was way TOO MUCH lettuce cut in big strips. Dressing was very light. Ordered a Tunisian chicken schwarma; it was good but a bit spicy. The Tbahij (Libyan ratatouille) was delicious with eggplant and potatoes and other veggies. I had a hard time walking out without calling for the manager or owner. I would like to start my post with the positive so here it goes. The ambiance was great, everything from the decorative rugs, Arab writing on the wall, tagine pottery and brass crafts were perfectly displayed. The tabbouleh salad was very tasty, it had the right amount of ingredients making it pretty as well as colorful placed in the neat brass metal bowl. Now with the things that require immediate remedial attention: 1. The burger was overrated, overcooked and dry. 2. The chick pea salad lacked chick peas, dressing, onions and feta cheese. 3. The lamb Kofta plate was prepared right however, it was not enough meat for the price and the cream sauce tasted like straight butter with a hint of garlic. The pita bread was lukewarm and looked like it had been unwrapped, quartered and thrown in a microwave for 30 seconds prior to serving it. 4. Drinks Ordered: The Cafe' Arabia was very tasty BUT, I didn't get it until we were almost done with our meal. We ordered drinks when we were first seated so that was a big red flag. My wife also ordered the Moroccan mint teapot and she didn't get it until after I got my coffee. I told the barista/waiter to cancel it when I got my coffee but he said it was also ready for us and could put it in a to-go cup for her. That kind of defeated the whole experience of drinking tea while waiting for our meal. 5. The service was really slow. Took over 15 minutes to get our (tap) waters and 20 minutes for our food when we were the only ones in the restaurant until we had placed our order. 6. The waitress needs some serious people skills and bussing training to know how to serve food and drinks. She touched the tops of the glasses her fingers. She didn't greet us and practically dropped the plates on the table when she brought them out. To add insult to injury, she put the handheld pay device on the table without asking us if we wanted or needed anything else. My kids wanted to try out some desserts, so luckily for us, the nearby HEB has plenty to offer. I had high hopes for this place because of what the owner posted on Instagram and it is so close to our neighborhood. Oh no! A disappointing visit this time. I picked up a falafel wrap and fries to go. My falafel was over cooked this time and bits were crunchy hard and looked old. There was hardly anything else on the pita but the falafel and a tiny smear of tabbouleh. The fries were overcooked and cold (I've not had good fries here since the first time--they were really good--i keep trying).
