    Puffy Taco

Went on Labor Day around 1105 am, empty, they just opened. But it seemed like they were busy with online orders. We were easily attended to, food was quick. I enjoyed the Salmon taco, it was refreshing and no fishy taste! The puffy taco of course nothing compares to the ones locally made here in SA, but the chicken was marinated well. The elote and queso dips were also great! Will order them again. My husband said the spicy chicken tikka was okay, he like the queso birria better. Overall, we enjoyed eating here. We just moved back to San Antonio and made a point to stop by Velvet Taco for an early dinner a few days after arriving. It was so good, that we just went in again this weekend for lunch! Getting into the parking was still surprisingly smooth despite all the highway overpass construction around the 1604/ I-10 (RIM). A few things have changed in the last couple years but Velvet Taco still has that modern, funky vibe I remembered. We kicked things off with the blue corn chips and Elote Guac; (Vegan & GF) ... Classic guac, roasted corn, queso listo, Valentina, citrus lime crema, queso fresco, lime... oh man! That's is my new favorite! My wife went with the Rotisserie Chicken Bowl again which comes loaded with all kinds of good stuff: queso blanco, roasted corn pico, black beans, avocado crema, and basmati rice with butter and cilantro. She loved it! Really flavorful and filling. I ordered the same two tacos: * The Grilled Steak with portobello mushrooms and crispy red onions on a corn tortilla * And the Mexi-Cali Shrimp Taco: blackened shrimp, napa slaw, sriracha aioli, avocado, roasted corn pico, micro cilantro, flour tortilla, which totally lived up to the "fan favorite" hype Both tacos were put together really well. These are some of the best Tacos I've had in SA town. She also tried their "Kick Ass Margarita", and it lived up to the name--smooth and not overly sweet. I had a 16oz can of Modelo Premier. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Velvet Taco hits the mark. Smart combinations & thoughtful blend of textures and flavors, cool atmosphere, and a creative fusion-spin on their tacos that makes you want to try them![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great job... looks like Velvet Taco will be a regular spot for us!

I don't have much to say about the ambiance because I got it to go but the food? The service? Chef's kiss. I'm not even a super fan of tacos. These are really good. I tried a couple of the seafood tacos on a flour tortilla. My friend had the chicken bowl and it was really good. We both love a red velvet cake (I consider myself a connoisseur) so we had to try it. It was different. Not bad, but not the way we do it in Georgia. Best believe, it didn't go to waste. I'm not sure what took me so long to eat here. Oh, yeah, I'm not a super fan of tacos lol. I think may have changed my mind.

First time there. And I did not get the taco, they looked small for the price and it was only for one. I wanted something more filling for my bucks. I got a beef bowl, it was pretty good. kinda like a chipotle bowl. I also got the red velvet cake, it was just staring at me as I was trying to check out. I'm glad I did, it was delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was clean, open seating and was plenty on A mid day lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was great, she was kind and helpful with it being our first time, she explained everything. I would return.

Fried Paneer Taco and Nashville Hot Honey Tofu Taco
    Jasmyne G.

After hearing about Velvet Taco we decided to give it a try. It was during lunch time so it was a bit busy. There was a lot of variety on the menu which we loved and after being undecided for 15mins we ordered the Fried Paneer Taco, the Nashville Hot Tofu Taco, the Grilled Salmon Taco, the Beer Battered Cauliflower Taco and Chips & Queso. I will say, for the bill to have been $28 everything was just okay, not worth the price point. The food... The Fried Paneer was not good( in my opinion) there was barely a hard fry on it, it wasnt enough batter to be fried but again it was soft almost mushy and lacked flavor. Reading the description I was super excited about it but it missed the mark.. completely. However, The Nashville Hot Tofu was very good, it has the heat and it was full and flavorful. The Grilled Salmon was good! A lime wedge on the side would be a plus(my preference) but very tasty. It was a nice size portion of salmon for the tortilla it came in but this was good. Now, the Beer Battered Cauliflower... The batter was hardly there, very soft almost mushy and paired with mushy avocados it was a NO for me, a bit disappointing. Lastly, the Queso and Chips were good your basic chips and cheese. Our cashier(Tianna) I think her name was, she was a bit discombobulated and not very knowledgeable of the menu so she wasn't a help when it came down to getting our questions answered. Also, when our order was called there were other orders to be picked up by customers so I had to guess which items belong to me and when I asked her which items were mine she was clueless. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining area was very dirty but where we sat was the only area that was clean so that was a bit cringy but nonetheless, everything was just interesting to say the least.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But definitely give velvet taco a try for yourself and I hope you have a better experience then we did.

It had been so long since I went to Velvet Taco. The food was really good and I really enjoyed the combo option they have of two tacos, a side and a drink. The meal was super filling and very affordable. I loved the elote and the buffalo chicken taco was delicious! Staff was super nice too! They ran out of queso and only had curry queso and they were able to give my husband a sample to try before ordering.

Never found a taco restaurant with so many different selections of odd tacos. The flavors were fantastic!! Service was ok. Not much welcoming when we arrived, very stoic girl at counter. But food came out pretty quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere was nice with fun signs scattered throughout the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This is my SAY What combo. I went for the chimichurri steak tacos because that has enough spices to clear my sinuses! The elote was awesome too. Definitely coming back.

Velvet Taco is a casual, quick service restaurant offering a variety of tacos containing chicken, pork, fish, vegetarian and beef. My favorites so far are the #17 Mexi-Cali shrimp taco, the #18 chicken waffle taco and the roasted corn in a cup (it's pretty addictive)! My kids love the seasoned chicken strips and tater tots (both are fantastic). My only issue is when I ordered additional food in the app from my table, my name was never called when my order was ready so it sat there, getting cold. Unfortunately, the app didn't notify me it was ready either so the temperature of the food was disappointing. Outside of ordering through the app, the food options are great. Update: I have figured out how to identify "tableside delivery" in the app on the final screen before ordering, so I've started using this setting when placing orders in the app, but it only results in my food coming to the table 50% of the time. When the food doesn't come to the table, my name is called on the intercom but it's a win because I'm alerted the food is ready.

While we were visiting San Antonio, we looked up this location and decided to give it a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As soon as we walked in, the establishment was clean and inviting with great music at the right level of noise.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were a group of six, wanted to try every taco, ordered nacho Trio, Birria nachos, a couple orders of tots, and the margarita with the shot! The manager or owner was very kind, super friendly, and made some great recommendations.

This place in located on 1604 access road right before you hit I-10. The place looks quaint and when you walk in notice the decor. You head down the aisle and see the menu on the wall. In case you forget what you wanted they also have a menu at the counter. This place does fill up fast and indoor seating is a bit limited. We ordered the Nashville hot tofu and Beer battered cauliflower taco. We also ordered the crispy tots with the local egg minus the bacon. Everything came out pretty quick and looked delicious. The first bite I took I was instantly impressed. I enjoyed every bite. The tots were very crispy. I was a little overwhelmed by the amount of pepper on the tots. The egg did dim that taste down a bit. Overall, I would give it 5 stars for presentation and taste. The staff are super nice and patient. The customers in front of us couldn't decide (who could blame them with the choices) and they helped them with their order. Definitely worth the trip if you're in the area. I can't wait to come back!

This place was so tasty and trendy! This was a nice spot that made ordering easy and received my food rather quickly. The food was fresh and hit different palate notes salty, spicy, savory, crispy and crunchy! Putting that egg on the dish was decedent just topped it off for me! I was glad to have had that dish. Parking was easy.

I'm taken aback every time I walk into to this wonderfully positioned taqueria in downtown steps from the River Walk. The smells, the feels, the sounds- it'll set your senses on fire. It's ambience is nothing short of walking the streets of Mexico and stumbling across the best local food find there is- it's your lucky day. It doesn't end there, because I have yet to discuss the flavors that this place dishes out. If you can imagine that other taquerias in town as as good as mamma's cooking, Plantaqueria is grandma's cooking saying, " I taught them everything they know." The counter service, decor and neon lights transport you to a pueblo that you probably have no business being in but were fortunate enough to get lost in. I feel that the people working to advance this visionary concept are in love with what they do because you get that experience with every bite of fresh, homemade goodness, weather you dine in or take/order out. Dude, fresh corn and flour tortillas, C'mon, man!! And speaking of vision, the owner, Sofia, who looks like she would get IDd at a bar has created something truly unique and incredibly delicious. Plantaqueria has revolutionized modern, classical Mexican street cuisine. It's open 7am-7pm so you can literally have this all day and you might wish you did. Y'all need to get you some, and don't thank me, thank the purveyors of this Alamo City gem. P.s. I've brought my mom in to eat this stuff and she totally agrees!

The smell alone made me think we were in for something special. We grabbed a couple of cocktails and ordered tacos, which seemed like the obvious choice. The tacos were good, but that's about where I'd leave it. They weren't bad at all, but they also weren't particularly memorable. With the aroma coming from the grill and all the recommendations I'd heard, I was expecting a little more flavor and a bigger wow factor. The atmosphere was fun, the service was good, and the charcoal grill definitely adds to the experience. I just found the food itself to be more "solid" than "spectacular." I'd rate it about a 7 out of 10. Worth trying if you're already at El Camino, but not a place I'd go out of my way for.

My wife and I use to frequent this place YEARS ago, the service was good and the food was good,…read moreyears later we decided to go back & mannn the food quality & service has went down terribly! Pulled up on a Friday late night with my family ordered the standard 5 tacos. They are a bit pricey as well. I ordered the carne Asada and my mother in law ordered the chicken. While it did seem like it tasted good it was super greasy. (TMI coming up) When I woke up the next morning my I noticed my bowels were literally moving the next day, (I counted about 9 times). I felt bloated and everything. My wife even told me that as we were pulling off she witnessed the cook I believe his name is Julio eating some of the product while he was preparing peoples food (the side door of the food truck was open so you could see right in). Funny enough we decided to go back Saturday evening to give them another try, thinking it would be better, BOY was we wrong. I ordered the same order plus charro Beans, elote (corn in a cup) and 3 cans of sprite. This time we took literally one bite and the meat was DRYER than the Saharan desert both the carne asada and the chicken. (Tasted like some reheated old meat or meat that had been made days prior). We were already at the hotel at this point and was infuriated!!! We ended up calling and I believe I spoke to Julio (or whoever the cook is) over the phone. After lying saying that he cooked the meat fresh that day he stuttered I told him aint no way the meat was fresh. He then said and I quote " I cooked the meat "a couple days ago" then said "sorry I burnt it or overcooked it". (Knowing that why would you serve that to me?) I then stated "yes it tasted old period". I requested a refund in which he agreed to. Driving all the way back I brought the food back as well. Julio (or whoever the cooks name is) tried to plead his case to me saying that the meat is fresh and took a fork and tasted the food himself and then tried to offer me the food. I told him "no I don't want to taste it, just refund me please" in which he did. Dishonesty, Not handling food with care, lying. Is something that crosses the line and I won't be back. *Also if the owner is reading this I have the phone conversation recorded and the video evidence to show proof this whole interaction, so do not just glaze over this review* I don't like writing bad reviews, but this one is for sure warranted. Seems like they will dress up the taco and selling you some "old meat" people just be careful and mindful when coming to this taco truck. "The Earths Best Taco" they say... that's a stretch!

Here's a cleaner and more professional version that still keeps your personality and honest…read morefeedback: This restaurant is perfect for a date night. The atmosphere and lighting create a very intimate vibe, and the darker setting really helps it stand out from other restaurants in Laredo. Just a heads up -- they do have a dress code, which honestly adds to the overall experience. The food was excellent. I ordered the chicken mushroom plate, and all the flavors were bold and well balanced. For drinks, I highly recommend the Jardin Eden. The fusion of lavender, blueberry, fruity liqueurs, and aromatic herbs made it one of the best cocktails I've had in a while. My only complaint was the service. We had a party of 10+ people with only one server assigned to us. He was very kind and professional, but it was difficult to find him throughout the night, especially when we were trying to pay our checks. The restaurant also wasn't very busy at the time, so service felt slower than expected. Overall, this is still a great spot for a special night out, and I would definitely come back.

Our waitress was great!…read more I had the potato and egg taco and the fish taco. The potato and egg taco did not have any taste...literally. The fish taco was ok but it had too much salt and could have done with some lettuce and cheese. My husband had the potato and egg taco (same feedback as me), and the beef taco, which he absolutely loved. Will we be back? No, but you can try it for yourselves (maybe not the potato and egg though).
