Ordered from the bar and waited an excruciating hour for my food, only to witness the people next to me receiving their orders within a mere 10 minutes after ordering through a waitress. Absolutely infuriating! Starving and with a long journey ahead of me, I was too famished to even consider canceling my order. The rude waitress ignored us, and when we brought up our concerns, the manager was equally rude and disrespectful. It's appalling that they don't even advise other customers before they order that it's going to be a long wait. It seems their profit comes more from their drinks than the food. To add insult to injury, it became evident that other customers had experienced the same problem. In the end, I had no choice but to cancel my food order. Next time, I'll be sure to avoid this place altogether when I'm in Brattleboro. read more

This is the bf and I's go to place for dinner on the way home from skiing in Vermont. If we don't go here after skiing, it feels all wrong inside Whetstone is nestled along the river, and its bar offers spectacular views. It's in downtown Brattleboro, and very walkable if you're shopping along the Main Street. We love Whetstone because they have a great menu and a really cool vibe. We have not had a bad meal here; they make a lot of their food in house and you can tell. They of course have a great beer/cider list, and also a 'fancy cocktail list' for people like me who don't like beer. The place is always hoppin' so it's good to check in on the wait list through Yelp. Service has never been bad despite being there on very busy nights. We had to wait a little while to be seated, so we ordered drinks at the bar. As you can see, there are some great views! I had the state line spritzer, which was good, but a little sweet even for me haha. Later in the night I ordered their hot and skinny margarita, which has a spicy rim and lemonade I believe in it. We started our meal this time with an order of their buffalo wings and poutine. All their apps you can order a large or a small size, which I really like. We love their wings-- so crispy, and they serve them with their smoky blue cheese dressing which is stellar. The cheese curds in the poutine aren't too melty which put me off a little the first time we had them, but I enjoyed it this time around. Their gravy is also top notch. The bf ordered the gobbler for dinner, which is a turkey sandwich with bacon, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, cheddar, maple cranberry aioli...mmmm. It was served in a cute mini cast iron pan. I ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi tacos, which had a cabbage slaw, pico de gallo and a chili lime crema...very fresh and delicious. It came with black bean salad and chips and salsa. I gave one star for the view. We were here about two years ago and loved it. We came in tonight and from the start it was a terrible experience. The bartender was rude and dismissive. We stood at the bar to order food and were ignored for about five minutes before she finally acknowledged us. I get being busy but a "Be right with you" goes a long way. Her greeting was "what do you want?" or something to that effect. We ordered and sat down. My husband's food came out about 10 minutes before mine. The waitress basically dropped the plate on the table and walked away. She came back with my wings and they were pathetic. Sorry. No other word. They were so tiny. This place used to be packed. Charge for refills on soda and coffee. Staff is nice. Food took so long to come out. Chili dogs couldn't pickup. So soggy. Mibe cane with fried pickles which tasted like they were from yesterday. Brattleboro is full of good restaurants so find another. Came here once years ago and left quite happy, but I felt the experience this time was only mediocre. Service was spotty from the start - we got on the wait list when we came in and were told it would be 30 min. You actually get a text to tie you into a Yelp app where you can check your place in line - super cool. However, this doesn't seem to actually be used. At first it seemed to, and the number of tables in front of us gradually declined, but by 40 minutes in we were periodically gaining tables in front of us for no apparent reason and we ended up back with 5 tables in front of us at ~45 min in. I checked in with the host to figure out what was going on and was told they were just cleaning tables and we'd be seated shortly - which we were, with 5 tables still ahead of us according to the app. Cool idea, but if not used, it's pretty useless. Cleaning tables seemed to take forever. We sat at some bar tables with a beer (20+ min to get a beer at the bar) and they never seemed to get cleaned up at all once people ate and left, at least in the 45+ min we were in that area. Bizarre. Once we finally got seated, service was pretty good, though my request for side with my sandwich got ignored completely (wasn't worth the time to fix it, given the service delays) and the food was really only average. For me, ordering from an app is cold and impersonal. We had questions about items that didn't get answered. So, we took our chances and just guessed at what might be good. The food we got was tasty but small in portion. The "large" Station Fries were literally a large handful; I have to wonder what the small size would be like because we didn't have a waitress to ask; the busboy delivered the food. The only reason I'm giving two stars and not one is because the staff makes up for this place. My husband and I have been coming here for years..and they recently have changed their system and way of doing business. I feel bad for the employees. They are taking the grunt of everyone being disappointed in the way they run things, order yourself, no waitresses or anyone to help you. In town visiting, was looking for a BBQ spot but apparently they don't exist around here, so we came to this place instead. Upon walking in, the ambiance was very nice. Decorated with stockings and wreaths and other Christmas decorations. We ordered the Vermont soup. It is a soup with Ale and cheddar. I didn't think it would be good, but it was delicious! (And I don't even drink beer!) For dinner we got the brewer burgers. They were delicious!!!! They are known for their burgers and steaks, so it would be silly to stray away from either of those dishes. We also got the mashed potatoes as a side. Very good!! My cousin and I split the ribs and the burger that had peanut butter on it (I think it was called the Peter's burger?). Both were very good! the sweet potatoes fries were great, I was a little disappointed that the purine didn't have more cheese on top. The coleslaw that came with the ribs was very vinegary and I am not sure there was mayo at all, which isn't the style I prefer. Great beer selection, I got a guest tap milk stout from left hand brewing company that was good (and inexpensive, even better, as I am used to paying $8 at least for a beer and this was $5.40). My cousin thought her gin cocktail could have used more gin. Our waitress was lovely and very helpful. This place has gone downhill big time. Their beers are fantastic but I recommend you go to the market garden to drink their beer. The food is terrible, it's over priced, the portions are too small and they got rid of their staff which was the only thing they had going for them! We have tons of really great restaurants in town. We went to Whetstone's on our way home from VT yesterday. It was our first time there, we ended up sitting upstairs on the roof deck which was amazing! Beautiful view of the lake and there was a singer playing his acoustic guitar who was incredible! We put our drink and food order in at the bar, when the food runner brought our food out, I took a bite of my meal, it was delicious, but cold! I brought my plate up to the bar to let them know that my Mac n cheese was cold . Amanda was the one who helped me, she was absolutely amazing! She was extremely apologetic and offered me a whole new plate, I told her it was totally fine if they could just heat my plate! She said she will take care of it! When my plate came back out, Amanda came over to our table and offered to get us a round of drinks (which she didn't have to do that) so my boyfriend and I got beers and Amanda made my daughter a mock tail which was delicious!! First, let me start with the fact that we have been patrons of the Whetstone for years but because of COVID, we had not been in the past year. We always loved the atmosphere, the great food, and the great service, which is why we kept coming back. We stopped in yesterday around 2:00 pm and all I can ask is, "What the hell happened?!". First, we have to seat ourselves and wander around looking for a table. The place looked it was over capacity and a delta variant superspreader. Then we have to order ourselves and oh, by the way, what if you don't have a smartphone or know what a QR code is? And how do order a glass of water if it's not on the menu? We ordered our food and we waited, and waited, and waited. I was beginning to think I was going to have to prepare our food myself. And there was a sign to bus and clean our own tables. If we wanted to eat at McDonald's we would have gone to McDonald's. We almost walked out then and should have. After about 45 minutes, our food came. My husband had ordered the Rueben. The corned beef was cut so thick, it was rubbery and it didn't have any Thousand Island dressing on it. He took two bites and then gave up and ate my lunch. When one of the staff people FINALLY came over to the table, my husband asked to take the Rueben off the bill. She looked at him as if he had three heads and was talking in a foreign language. She then replied, "Um...I'll ask?". She walked away and never came back nor did she send a manager to the table. We finally gave up and left and she was standing outside just hanging out. It's no wonder you take everyone's payment information ahead of time so you can rip them off. This was a complete and utter sh!tshow and needless to say we won't be back and we'll warn our friends. Before posting this here, I sent this to the restaurant. The manager wrote back asking for a contact number so we could talk in person. I gave it to him but he never called. Whetstone Beer and Co used to be a great restaurant. They switched to online ordering through an app and the process is ridiculous. The paying process was the biggest issue, if McKenna and other wait staff did not help us we would have walked out. McKenna and other staff were fantastic, they helped us through the ordering process. The restaurant is under staffed. We had visited Brattleboro on February 1st. While our intention was to look at vehicles for sale, we were referred to Whetstone Brewery. Leah was our waitress and she was absolutely amazing! The place was packed, yet she took our orders without writing them down! She remembered our drinks, preferences and suggested beers as to our tastes. She has a great personality and her people skills are spot on! Please acknowledge Leah and let her know that the Twiss family appreciated her and when we visit again (and we will in the spring to sit by the water) we want her to be our waitress. Whatever happened to the old restaurant? Burgers, the menu doesn't even have prices on it. You have to order from your phone or get up and go to the register at the bar, order at the register just like McDonald's. Be careful when you build your own burger to Cha Ching cha Ching they don't even have onion rings anymore. Are used to be such a nice restaurant. We came from Bennington for one big disappointment. The peanut butter and bacon works but I would rather have a more traditional burger, Tim gets a A for effort tho. Onion rings were great, service was great, awesome location on the Vermont/New Hampshire boarder over looking the Connecticut river! It was very busy and parking isn't convenient, so you may want to call head. The bathrooms were atrocious, I blame that on the customers over the staff. Great views of the river. My husband likes the beer, do not go there hungry and expect to get any kind of decent food. We had the fish sandwich and I have had fish sticks that are bigger. The food was cold and they make you give a credit card when you order. A cup of coffee with bailey's, two beers and one fish sandwich was $50. Now I have no problem with that price if the food was decent. No one ever asked how it was, I think that is because they already know. And we sat for close to 30 minutes to get the check to pay.
