Ive enjoyed this place for a few years - with many visits in a month. The interior is a bit loud (ignoring the drinking), and some of the staff are gruff. Other staff are the complete opposite; kind and concerned, but fun-loving and energetic, making the place a good visit. This is one of the few places in Midland that gives a "Big City" vibe in decor and energy / attitude; clients are either dating or talking business or hanging out to end a day with a friend and some brews. There is a very small amount of food there; the menu exists, but it's sparse. There are occasional good hits (Cuban sandwich, chicken tortilla soup when available), but everything else is average, pricey and..well, just there. Go for the beer, the ambiance and the company (if you are bringing a friend). Hope for good wait staff, and if you get it, your night will be perfect! read more

Very nice craft beer bar with 40 taps. All beer, wine, and liquor offered is Michigan-made, which is an impressive feat! Some may say that the food menu is limited, but just because they don't offer burgers doesn't mean you can't get a good meal and leave full. Soups, salads, sandwiches, and a bunch of great shareable dishes, all of which pair well with the drink offerings. This place is a gem! read more

My wife and I love this place and have been there a half dozen times. The food is decent but it is a very limited menu. However, when we go there it is for the beer, cider and mead. My wife and I had never even had mead before coming here. I love that they have growlers for anything on tap. It is a relaxed atmosphere and I have found all of the wait staff to be incredibly helpful and friendly. I go here in a heart beat over the dive bars or yuppyville choices that are found locally. Then again, we lived in Portland, OR for a decade, so maybe it is because this place reminded us of our time out there. read more

The menu selection of beers, meads, ciders, etc take up (literally) a posterboard front and back. All beverages, locally brewed, have descriptions next to them on the Menu so you are not left in the dark about which type of beer to try. This is easily my favorite restaurant/taproom ever. They use as much locally produced food as they can, and the menu cycles seasonally. Everything we ordered was phenomenal. The service was splendid. It gets a little loud in there sometimes, but the mood is always jovial and inviting. The beer selection also changes seasonally, which I personally love. This isn't the place you wanna go if you're an "order the same thing every time" kind of person, but if you want to have an adventurous time trying delicious local fare, do not miss out on this place!!! read more

A well needed addition to dt midland. Best beer selection in the city and a nice mix of food. Menu is a bit limiting to me,and the hotdogs seem like an odd marriage to the rest of the menu. Great place with good beer and wine selection and very good food. The chips with guac and salsa was more expensive than my meal but it was ok cause everything was wonderful. They have outside seating and were able to accommodate me with my dogs. read more

First, upon checking in the hostess wrote our number down wrong and upon correction she got very frustrated with us. Then she told us it was a 20 minute wait and 45 minutes later we are still not seated when other people were walking in and getting seated right away. Mind you, we were told there was no on above us. Then we called to ask the wait time and they explained that there was no wait. When we entered we saw on the list that at least 4 parties had been seated AFTER our sign in because the original hostess did not call us in. Their mask policy is outrageous as well. I understand covid regulations require a mask but to force me to wear my mask near the base of my eye to walk two feet just to take it off is outrageous. I will not be eating here again and would not recommend to a friend. I feel bad considering out waitress was really nice and responsive but the behavior of her coworkers a was outrageous. read more

I'm not a huge fan of bars, beer, or wine, so I was mostly here to hang with friends, but I was pleasantly surprised. They had great cider and mead options for those of us who like the sweet stuff! And the sandwiches and chips were great, especially with the bar cheese dip. I would definitely recommend this place and go again myself. The service was also pretty good - friendly and fairly quick. Just try to order everything you want early on because it's hard to get the staff's attention once they're focused on new tables. read more

Definitely the best place to have a drink in mid-Michigan. Their selection of beers is astounding, and since they rotate the taps all the time, it's fun not knowing what's going to be available. I guess the one downside is that if you have something you really like, you may never see it on the menu again. The food is good too, but my one complaint is the menu is pretty limited. They usually offer one more substantial entree on some nights as a special, but otherwise, it's mostly small plates and sandwiches. If they had a bigger menu, I don't think I'd ever bother going anywhere else in Midland. I also love that they use Michigan sourced products. All their alcohol is brewed in Michigan, and their meats, cheeses, etc are also Michigan based. read more

Great find in a funny little, "Truman Show"-esque town in Michigan en route to Canada. We bypassed the trendy, French bistro attached to the hotel and went for this spot. Very clean. Bad name, but great beer selections and huge, beautiful, modern brewery space that has that requisite, tasteful, re-purposed from a prior industrial space vybe. Waiter was cool. But he sat down next to us at the adjacent table, and that false intimacy move always sort of creeps me out. Anywho. Beers were great. Bell's Red Rye and a little 4 oz taster of some very strong, barrel aged stout at the end. Got a massive, cheesy chicken panini with peppery waffle fries. Delish. Plenty of board games for the girls to play. Some old school games we never heard of. Great spot. I'd totally hang here if I lived in Midland. read more

I live in town and I love coming here! I've never had a bad experience. The drinks are great, the food is even better, and the atmosphere is the best part. Whenever friends or family come to town I always suggest this place. I suggest getting a beer flight and a wrap! read more

My husband and I are new to Midland. When we walked by WhichCraft before it was open, we peeked in through the paper wrapping the door. The owner opened the door and told us to come in for a sneak peek. He was so passionate about this place, from the handmade tables, to the local beers on tap. We couldn't wait to try it upon opening. He asked our opinion on different things too - the food they might offer, etc. While this place isn't about the food, which I'm sure they will learn, it is about the beer. We stopped in for one drink on opening night. They offer unique flavors that I haven't seen at other taprooms. (Short's peaches & cream was great!) Our server was really great! She sat down and talked to us about the place and the beers and was really personable. I LOVE to eat popcorn with my drink, so the free popcorn was a plus! Can't wait to come back, and I'm sure they will only keep improving! read more

My wife and I had a good time our first visit but jury is still out. Beer was fine but I personally was disappointed that glasses were chilled (why is it that places think they need to serve craft beer in chilled glasses? Go to any brewery taproom and glasses are typically at room temp.). Wait staff was friendly, but clearly there are some service issues to be worked out. For example, wait staff was confused who was serving our table, and when waiter brought us our beers, he had them switched. My wife ordered a beer she recently discovered at a brewery taproom, and when she tasted it, she said it didn't taste right. Initially I thought he had brought her the wrong beer, but when I compared to mine, it was obvious what had happened (thankfully I was able to discern the different styles). The decor is pleasant and inviting, but it looks and feels more like a restaurant that serves beer (albeit a large selection of beers) versus a taproom that just happens to serve some food. Finally, perhaps my biggest complaint are the prices. The beers are a little on the pricey side based on my experience, and the food prices are way overboard IMO ($6 for a plain hot dog!). Maybe this is just because it's Midland, but all things considered it makes me wonder who is the targeted clientele. That all said, we will likely go back, if nothing else to see if they have worked out all the bugs...and, because we love craft beer. UPDATE: We went back a couple weeks later with some friends. Conclusion--jury is still out but getting closer to a conclusion. Unfortunately, it's not a good one. Service was better, but only marginally. They were allegedly short on bar staff so beers were very slow in coming (this is a tap room, right?). One time I had to remind the waiter I was still waiting for my beer. The explanation? The bar had "lost" my order (this is a tap room, right?). Also, disappointingly, the first two beers I ordered they were out of even though they were on the printed menu. Why have the printed menu unless you are going to be committed to having the beers on tap....just rely on the huge chalk board. We ordered an appetizer and a main meal. Unfortunately, they were out of what my wife ordered and she had to get something else (how can you run out of cheese for grilled cheese sandwiches?). The food was good, but I thought the amount of pita chips in the appetizer was a little on the slim side for 4 people ( these are cheap ), and the soup was lukewarm. And, again, very expensive. Finally, place is very noisy, and it was hard to hear our conversation. They might to invest in some acoustic panels. read more

Great place for drinks. Nice atmosphere & staff. The only bad thing about this place.... With the kitchen being so close to the bathrooms & back door, it was easy to see into the kitchen. Fantastic beer, atmosphere and food. I had two servers and both were great. I read complaints about service but keep in mind that was their first night open for some of those complaints. It takes a few days or more to work out the kinks. No business works perfectly in the beginning. I'm going back tomorrow for more great beer. I just wish I would have been able to join the Mug Club. Listen you dinks, If you're complaining about being able to get out of your house and drink Michigan craft beer, perhaps you don't deserve this place. Is it loud? Yes. Is the food a match for the beer? It's getting there. Can it be bright? Sometimes, but if you want to drink in the dark return to the soul crushing cave from whence ye came. Don't forget, this is Midland we're talking about. Sure, it's not Middle of Nowhere, Iowa, but it certainly isn't a "happening" city. Shut up and drink your beer. read more

What a great find, it started with our server, Matt, he was welcoming and very patient with novice craft beer drinkers. The white wine flight was very tasty and the beer flight was fun to put together from an extensive list of Michigan Beers. The menu includes a variety of light appetizers,we enjoyed the Mediterranean Mezze. The Adobe Chicken Panini was delicious and my Mom had the classic Detroit hotdog. If I lived in Midland, I would include the Whichcraft as a favorite haunt. read more

Very disappointed with the food and service. Presentation of food and quality was poor at best. I did not finish the beer sampler they brought out because it took 15 minutes to bring out and it was not cold. I have certainly been to better bars and while the ambiance is nice the food is terrible, the beer is good if served cold and before food. First off, I went here because I did a quick Google search for breweries in Midland, MI...and this place came up. Taproom and tasting room are terms often associated with breweries, not bars (Pigeon Hill in Muskegon is a taproom that brews their own beers) but if I did more research, I probably could have realized they were not a brewery at all...that is on me. The reason for the two stars is that when we sat down after moving our 50 lb. bar stools (makes no sense) we asked the bartender if they brew any of the beers on their huge list, and he seemed almost insulted. When we looked at the menu, thr prices really made no sense whatsoever to two people who are more familiar than most when it comes to craft beer. $7 for a can of Atwater Vanilla Java Porter, when you can get the same beer at an old Chicago, for example, for $5..same size too! One of their cheaper beers was Oberon and at $4.50, they probably undercharged for it. All the beer prices were out of whack with most of them coming out of a bottle or can. We saw the food as it came out for people setting next to us, and I observed a gentleman who I thought got meatloaf...only to find out they were baby back ribs...gross. The mug club is something, again, accustomed to breweries, and it is a very big waste of money IMO. Half the beers are not even on tap, so a mug does no good at all when you are drinking out of a bottle or can. This has a Beer Grotto feel to me, but I think Beer Grotto has a much better business plan with this place. We left after one beer to go to the stadium to drink cheaper craft beer....that shouldn't be possible! No TV either. read more

Thought we would check out whichcraft after anticipating it to open for months only to be disappointed. Came in at 11:15 to have one drink and was told we couldn't order anything because they had already done last call. Before 11:15 on a Saturday night? The waitress was very rude about it. We were up at our property in Gladwin a couple weeks ago and decided to stop and try out this place on our way home. They have a great selection of Michigan beer and wines. Our waiter was very nice. I gave three stars because the service was terrible. It took almost an hour to get our food! We both ordered Panini sandwiches and they were rock hard! When we ordered our drinks they came out in good time but when my husband ordered a second beer, that took about 15 minutes. read more

Possibly the worst service in town. I'm sorry but when I sit at a seat at the bar and don't even have a bartender stop by and say "I'll be with you shortly" this is unacceptable. The bartender made it a point to walk around the bar to ask people standing at the waitress station what they wanted but didn't even make eye contact with us. Needless to say we left after sitting around for 15 minutes without being waited on. As I am a craft beer fan and connoisseur I was ecstatic for this place to open. By far THE BEST place to get beer in Midland area. The atmosphere is great, it's not the uptight snobbery you find at Wine, cool aesthetics, staff is usually friendly and some are very knowledgeable about the beers. I have to admit, service is slow if your seated at the tables, and even sometimes if you're bellied up to the bar, and some servers seem to lack the beer knowledge I would expect someone working at a taproom would have. But given that they just opened, in a matter of time they'll work the kinks out in slow service times and weed out individuals who don't fit well. The food is great, not many options, but hey, you're not going here to get something to eat you're going here for the best selection of Michigan beers. All in all, if you want to try some beers you're not used to, or sit down with friends or friends you haven't met yet and have some tasty brews and good conversations, then this is THE place to go. They have a decent selection of beers and ciders. Was disappointed in the wine selection, but I am also not accustomed to MI wines. Atmosphere was good and we were able to have easy conversations within our group without yelling. We did wish they had a dessert or two on the menu and the service was quiet slow throughout the entire night. It took several minutes for them to even acknowledge we walked in the door. read more

On my first visit, they were very busy! We started by sitting outside, until it got too cold and then we moved inside. I got a flight and tried 5 unique beers. I believe that is what the concept on which the WhichCraft Taproom was based. A place to try Michigan made craft beers, wines, and ciders. When you go, they might not have the beer you tried the last time you were there, but they will have something NEW to try! All of the beer is catigorized and discribed on the menu. Love this place. Have been multiple times at different times of day and it's almost always busy except early afternoon on a Saturday. It is really bright inside but not that huge of a deal. I go to try the beer and the beer is great. I'm glad they are working on different food options and hope the quality of the food will match the price being asked. That said, I haven't had a 'bad' food item. Tried a few dips and a potato soup, but none I'd order again. read more
