I was introduced to Skagit Arms by my partner's brother who is a law enforcement officer with the…read moreState of Washington. High praise for the store. I'm a bit shocked by the negative reviews, which -- frankly -- seem to come more from uninitiated people or lunatics who are afraid of inanimate objects. The selection of firearms is exceptional. Service is superlative. What I find very satisfying is that, unlike the sporting goods giants such as Sportsman's Warehouse where the people behind the counter are mere sales clerks, the people who work here are not only experienced, but they know their products very well. I began shooting 57 years ago in U.S. Air Force Basic Training, in one of the last groups that did marksmanship training during the Vietnam War; not only did I qualify for rifle, but my job at a SAC Command Post required that I qualify for pistol as well, shooting the Colt combat masterpiece, the 1911 Series 70. I've been teaching for about 46 years and have had certification as a pistol and rifle instructor. I've been trained in a number of military schools and been to three marksmanship academies that are the most highly rated in the U.S. Granted, I don't know everything about firearms -- but I know almost immediately when someone knows what they're talking about. What's more, I'm a facilitator and instructor who is an end-user of industrial psychology... and can smell BRAVO SIERRA readily... as noted on quite a few of the reviews posted for Skagit Arms. Not one of those I talked with tried to snow me about firearms, were rude, or were anything but polite and pleasant to talk with. I saw one "customer" asking about pistols "sweep" the store and its customers with a pistol -- a definite safety violation and no-no -- until the salesman stopped them almost immediately. Thankfully, the salesman didn't offer any other firearms to the individual who left in a huff. (I've been a Range Safety Officer for almost 9 years, and if this kid knew anything at all about firearm safety, I'll eat my hat. Yours, too.) And, if I may add, I think there were a number of individuals whom I believe may have been in the store to cause trouble -- including a number whose IDs failed to pass muster at the door. I'm NOT a Washington resident, but I have a Conceal Carry certificate from the State of Washington (which I've had since the 1970s): I usually show the certificate before handling a weapon. I closely watched every salesman in the store handle weapons, and they were all very well-trained, safety-conscious, and professional when it involved handling firearms. The store has an excellent selection and I will do some research on prices, quality, and track-record of the few firearms I'm interested in purchasing, as well as obtaining the FFL information from my local (Arizona) proprietor for transfer. Last of all, I appreciate the discount offered to this veteran. Well done, Skagit Arms.

And they seem to hate it when we ask if we can see a firearm in the case. They just huddle up together talking story and laughing and never acknowledge and greet us. If it weren't for their assortment of ammo I wouldn't be shopping here. But after today I'll take my business elsewhere. Not worth your time and money I can guarantee it!

I want to thank Carl for being so kind to me all this time and the rest of the staff for creating a safe and inclusive environment and allowing people like me to learn fast and be part of their community. Unfortunately, that wasn't really the case. When I walked in, I made eye contact with the staff member behind the counter and explained that it was my first time shooting here since taking their intro class. Instead of any kind of greeting or friendly acknowledgment, he immediately asked for my last name. After looking me up, he told me (without much explanation) to go to the middle computer for the intro video and then the side computer for the waiver. When I asked for clarification on what "side computer" meant, he simply repeated the instructions with noticeable attitude. It set a pretty unwelcoming tone. The video and waiver were easy, and when I came back to the counter, I let him know I brought some of my own ammo since you need to declare that. He told me to "take it out" so he could check it. After that, he just listed off, "ear protection, eye protection, targets, ammunition?" I already had my own gear, so I asked for just a target and ammo. He instructed me to turn around and pick a target. After paying, he pointed me to a bay and reiterated rules that the safety video already covered, and that was essentially the end of our interaction. He didn't ask if I had any questions or clarify anything else. The actual range itself is functional and was a fine experience. But I'm glad I did some YouTube research about how gun ranges work beforehand, because the lack of guidance here would have been pretty intimidating. As a newer gun owner, I was hoping for staff who felt more approachable and patient. Overall, I was disappointed that the customer service for newcomers was so unwelcoming, especially from a place where I had taken a class and bought my firearm.
