Terrible customer service. I had added as a comment that I wanted jerky that didn't expire before Christmas. I ordered 12 packages and 7 expire before Christmas! I asked for a refund and received an email from the owner which was rude and refused to refund or do anything and said it was my fault for ordering too early. Even though I made that comment. Best beef jerky I have ever had! I never ate beef jerky before, but my son introduced me to it. Tried others and just doesn't compare. They have 2 different cuts, thin; which is what I like and cowboy; which is a thicker cut. I've never tried the cowboy because I'm happy with the thin cut. read more

Beef needs to be thicker it's paper thin and there's way too much fat in it. And the taste of the soy sauce is overpowering.

Had a fine experience the first time. Second time the order came in bad shape. Had a box of ants and slight green look on one of four bags. Couple bags had tiny holes. I don't know if from the plant or in shipping but not my issue. My daughter paid for product and didn't choose the shipper. Stand by your product and give a refund or new product. Everything we make is literally physically inspected by the USDA after it is packaged. In addition, most flavors are made as part of a separate lot on different days, and there have been zero reports of any issue with any other customer for the jerky produced in those lots. Or stated the opposite, I'm asked to believe that only 1 bag (your bag) for each lot had holes in them and ants. Each lot produces about 400 bags, and so its near statistically impossible for 1 bag out of 400 on 3 separate production days to not only be bad, but to each end up in the same one order. .. and the USDA would have had to miss it on three separate days as well. So I'm 100% certain we didn't send the order out the way that it was received. On that basis alone, we are not responsible. However, I also don't like the idea that you weren't able to eat any of your jerky and I'm also considering that you're asking for a full refund and I try to lean into making our customers satisfied. Given the facts, I'm willing to split it with you. We've incurred the full cost to make and package your order and aren't responsible for what happens after an order ships. And you've spent $78 on Jerky you weren't able to eat (i.e., shipping fees are not reimbursed if the order is received (those dollars went to USPS), and if the order is lost by the post office then reimbursement is requested through USPS) Half of $78 is $39 and I will issue a refund in that amount. I hope this provides some measure of satisfaction. We're a small business and unfortunately there are dishonest people that will try to get one over on us to get free jerky. Distinct jerky, and great! Light, crispy, and tasty. I like em all but the cowboy cut was at the bottom. Was around 2x thicker and 10x harder. It wasn't a chewy hard that I was envisioning. It's the type of chew that will make your jaw tired if you eat too much. Extra dense, no squish. read more

Let me preface this by stating that I think most of the reviews on here are from people who 1) don't know what good jerky is or 2) know someone at Whip City Jerky directly. Over the past year, I've purchased jerky from Whip City about ten times. It really took me this long to decide if they were good at all. First, to address other reviews that say the jerky is 'tender'. This jerky specializes in being thin, brittle, and as sharp as glass. Seriously. You will get some mouth cuts while consuming. That's not a huge problem, but don't go into it expecting there to be any 'tenderness' at all. Second, the flavor- I think the only variety that showed any flavor profile was the Hawaiian and even then, the flavor is that of a piece of paper that has been soaked overnight in pineapple juice. The beef itself has absolutely no flavor profile to it- the flavorings are absolutely necessary. I purchased the cheddar bacon today, which is why I'm writing this review. It had almost no taste at all...and I looked down to see these strange red particles. A meat-based company (whip city) chose to put on Bacon-bits (the flavourless, soy based bacon substitute) all over their jerky instead of opting for the real thing or even bacon flavored essence from something else. There was no taste of cheese at all, just a mildly salty, soy-filled shard of meat glass. Sorry guys, but I think Sutter Meats (actually, probably anyone) does a lot better and jerky isn't even their main gig. read more

I haven't bought the jerky at the actual shop, but it's also sold at several Westfield-area liquor stores. I'm from Western Mass originally but have been living out west for about four and a half years now (Phoenix, Las Vegas and now San Diego). Every time I go home to visit I try to pick up a bag or two of Whip City Jerky to bring back with me. It's great because the Bug Y by my parents' house stocks it. Recently I was researching good food to bring on backpacking trips and jerky came up as a common item to pack. I'm also hiking with my dog so I was psyched to see that these guys have jerky for dogs, too. I ordered a big bag of Blazin' Buffalo jerky for me and two packs of the dog jerky for my dog Fibzy and had them delivered out to California. The pup and I both love our meat treats! If you haven't tried this jerky yet, you're missing out. It's paper thin and practically melts in your mouth. I haven't tried a flavor I haven't liked yet, so the comment below about the Cajun flavor could've been referring to a bad batch or something . . . Anyways, give these guys a try! Okay, everyone. I get it. Whip City is a unique kind of jerky. Previous ratings seem to be either five star or one star ratings, not many "in between" ratings, which is an anomaly. So, here's my take: I've travelled extensively in my 60+ years on this orb. As a long distance hiker, backpacker, bicycler, retired from two careers that were spent outdoors, I've eaten more than my share of jerky. From big brands to the locally available small brands, and even to homemade versions. I'm giving this a three star rating....not because I enjoyed it, but because it is unique. To be honest, when I first tasted it, I was reminded of Korean dried kelp....or really thin salty candy brittle. Again, I've eaten my share of jerky, and I have never had jerky like this. Taste was simply okay, but I had a hard time accepting this as "dried meat", and personally, I didn't care for the "pounded so thin it was like eating dried leaves" texture. But that's a personal preference, and not necessarily a "dog on the product" observation. Actually, I applaud Whip City for providing a unique product...their "take" on jerky. Again, it's not my preference. I wish Whip City only the best....and it's obvious by most reviews that they have a following. read more

Absolutely hands down awesome. I love the thin slices and the flavors are intense and hit the pleasure centers of the brain. Jerky crack? Oh yes! My wife bought a small bag one day and I tried it not expecting much. Bam, I am in jerky love. Mesquite, Original and BBQ so far. Will try others. I just bought a bunch in large sizes and want more. And my dog loves the Bow Wow jerky. Try it but be prepared to start chasing the taste like a cat chasing a mouse. read more

I have to agree with Jennifer and Steven here. I wrote a raving review for whip city jerky back in 2012 when it was awesome. I dont know what happened. The jerky has some flavoring evident but my worst gripe is the brittleness and the off taste that it now has. I agree with Steven that it doesn't taste like beef. I tried several of my favorites (Cajun, mesquite, garlic parmesan) before I quit buying it. I figured maybe I got a bad batch but they all had that funky taste, so unfortunately I am no longer a fan. So sad too because it used to be the best around as you can see by the reviews in the past. I usually love jerky and this was quite horrible! I purchased this jerky at a local supermarket. I am NOT a picky eater; I have traveled a lot and eaten some pretty gross things, but this was really bad. Yes it was thin. Yes it was brittle; it flew apart when I bit it. Yes it tasted horrific. I'll take their word for it that it was beef; sure didn't taste beefy. Not sure where the great reviews come from. Did I buy a bad batch? If so, then their quality control, which let such a poor product go to market, would make me wonder about the overall quality control of their entire process.
