"Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee" (Peter, Paul and Mary) Some of our disappointment with Autumn Mist was based on our false assumption that they had a sit-down restaurant on their premises. Why did we assume that? Well, their big on-line menu coupled with its reference to "restaurant" on their website sure had something to do with it. Here's a quote from their website: "Our Farm-to-Table Restaurant & Retail oasis is a celebration of community, sourcing all of the all-natural beef we serve from our farm, just minutes away!" So, we were pretty surprised to only see an ordering counter and freezer cases when we walked in. But we did get over our disappointment when we walked around their showroom where the walls were jam packed with meats and prepared foods in refrigerated and freezer cases. Steaks, roasts, soups, and prepared entrees were everywhere. The selection was pretty dazzling. We learned that they had a nice feature with their prepared entrees, namely buy one get a second for half off. We bought a two pretty big frozen trays of Chicken Marsala with rice and broccoli, and beef Stir Fry with veggies and noodles. I just put them on our kitchen scale, and each are between a pound and a pound and a half. One was $10.70 and the second was marked down to $5.35, so that's at least two (probably more) very nice dinners for around $8 each. One sour note was the unsmiling, unfriendly cold shoulder customer service experience. Barely a word was spoken by the woman who processed our order.

Quality meat, delicious burgers and good prices. I always stop in and leave with a bunch of frozen meat. Shop local, and support the farm!

Only outdoor seating if you can stand the weather, or get your items to go, but steak and cheese grinder was on point .

I know it's Avon, but prices here are outrageous. I was looking at the ground venison & elk,…read moreneither one had prices listed (on the product itself or anywhere around the fridge). So the counter person took them back up to the register to check the prices, they were in the $23 & $24 range for 14 ounces. That's double the price I pay for ground venison and ground elk at the Litchfield Locker, the prices there are $11.99/lb (venison) & 10.99/lb (elk) respectively. So, needless to say, I just wasn't interested in being fleeced, no thanks. I won't be returning.

100% recommend this shop! I wish I had pictures for my review, but the sandwiches we ordered…read moredisappeared so fast due to their deliciousness! On our first visit we ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and Wild Turkey. The service was so good, all of the guys behind the deli made sure everyone was promptly assisted. When I lifted the bag of our 2 sandwiches, it was as heavy as a brick!! The sandwiches were so big we split one for lunch and one for dinner. The winner was the pulled pork, but we loved the turkey too. We returned a couple of days later for another pulled pork sandwich and I also ordered a giant dill pickle I saw on the counter. This place also has a huge selection of raw meats and prepared foods and a bunch of random local goodies and sauces to try. Again, I wish I took a picture of my sandwich, but I forgot about the existence of my phone while I was enjoying it :)

Went here yesterday while visiting a friend who lives nearby. I ordered the pulled pork with sides…read moreof slaw and collard greens. The portions were more than ample. The pork was cooked perfectly. No sauce or rub on it but it came with 2 different BBQ sauces, one was a Carolina Gold style and another that seemed to be Kansas City style. I am a Carolina fan and was not disappointed at all. It really brought it all together. The slaw had a very nice kick to it. The cornbread and hush puppies were a little on the dry side but had good flavor. The collard greens did let me down as I am used to more hamhock or bacon flavor, however it was not a deal breaker for me. l am looking forward to my next visit here.

We paid our first visit to CPC today, and really enjoyed the food…read more COVID has all but closed the dining room, and the big sheets of plexiglass between you and the masked counterpersons are a sad reminder of where we are today. However, despite all those necessary adjustments, CPC dished up some terrific barbecue for us. We ordered a brisket plate ($15) and pulled pork plate ($13) to go. Each plate came with a slab of cornbread and your choice of 2 sides. We selected sweet potato fries, mac and cheese, Baked BBQ beans, and cheese grits. The meals were served with 2 containers of BBQ sauce -Sweet St. Louis and Tangy Memphis. We made up a few combination plates for dinner tonight, and both of us agreed that the food was very good. Let's start with the meat, because, after all, this is a BBQ place. I liked the brisket a lot, once you trimmed the slices, they were very lean, very meaty, very tasty and plain old excellent. The slices were on the thicker side, but I didn't mind that one bit. The pork was tender and juicy and full of flavor. I added some of that Sweet St. Louis sauce to my plate, and it was great, with tons of flavor and no heat. I sampled three of the sides and thought the Gold Medal Winner was the mac and cheese. It had a luxurious texture and was loaded with cheesy goodness. The grits were excellent too. My wife and I split opinions on the cornbread, I liked it more than she did, and I think that's because it wasn't as sweet or as moist as the cornbread we've had in the past at various BBQ joints.. We also picked up two pieces of smoked salmon we'll target for dinner this week. All of that ran us less than $40, so we think the value is pretty darned good. The location is gorgeous, you are right next to the North Pond Marina of Lake Congamond so you can watch the boats from their outdoor patio if you're in the mood to do some people and boat watching. I'm sure we will be back because the BBQ options around here are few and far between.
