Racial Discrimination!! I would have not selected any star if that was an option. On Saturday, January 20, 2024, myself and another black woman went to the Omni, Fort Worth for a business meeting. Before going to the meeting, we went to the hotel restaurant Whiskey and Rye to get something to eat. After waiting several minutes the server, Angel, finally came to our table and proceeded to place 1 menu on the table. I asked her for a second menu, and she then replied I'll see if I can find another one. After waiting a few more minutes, she walked to our table, placed another menu down, and walked away without saying anything. While we looked the menu over she never returned to take our order, we had to get her attention to eventually return. After she took our order, she asked for our room number in turn I replied we are not staying at this location. She then asked how do you plan to pay for this order, cash or card. At first, this caught us totally off guard because we had never been asked how are you paying for a meal prior to being served while dining in. Then I asked her why do you need a form or payment for a meal prior to putting it in. She then responded it's our company's policy to take a form of payment ahead of time. I asked what do you mean to take payment ahead of time, she then said we had to open a tab. I responded by saying, I don't need a tab I'm not ordering any alcohol. Then she said you have to open a tab because people have been known for running off without paying their bill. My dinner partner and I said this is unacceptable, and that we need to speak to the manager. The manager Brian then came over to the table and we explained to him the situation. The manager agreed that the server actions were justifiable and that is the company's policy. While the manager was there I asked a couple of tables in close proximity to me, did they have to open a tab prior to receiving their meals. They were ALL predominantly white tables, and they ALL replied no, that they didn't have to open a tab. The manager then proceeded to say I need to retrain my staff. I then informed the manager I was there the prior evening and this policy was never mentioned nor implemented. After this frustrating ordeal we decided to take our business elsewhere, where our skin complexion didn't determine the quality of our service or experience. read more

Had a late dinner and drinks here the other night and really enjoyed it. I've only been a handful of times in aaaall the years that I've lived here. They serve food relatively late (I think until 12 or 1am), and they have a pretty nice menu with many an option. It's kind of like an upscale sports bar, so you'll find pool tables and good beer and burgers and steak and more. Jon and I shared the brisket wedge salad, which is gluten free without the croutons. It was fresh and cold and crisp and really good, I'd definitely order it again. And it's plenty big to share between 2 people. Our waitress, Melissa, was so sweet and accommodating and made sure our drinks were never empty. My salty dog cocktail was just alright (they used that sort of hot-pink/too sweet grapefruit juice that never tastes like real juice). I'd say prices are decent for a nice hotel bar! Semi-sexy, dimly lit, lounge-y atmosphere. This is a big hotel for conferences and conventions, so lots of traveling business people tend to make up the demographic here. read more

While I enjoyed a bar connected to the Omni, I wasn't impressed really. My burger was so dry and overcooked and the brisket sandwich my partner had was dry and room temperature. If you want to be treated like dirt, screamed at by managers, and never receive your drinks then this is the place for you! We stayed at the Omni for a large cheer comp that happens every year- it was our fourth time coming. They knew they would have tons of guests and need to be properly staffed but did not and decided to take out their frustrations on the paying guests. My friends quesadilla was covered in grease and no one received drinks we ordered. After bringing it up and talking about how the manager got mad at my friends for sitting at an empty table (this restaurant has no hostess- it's open seating) she came and YELLED AT US "if we don't like it we can leave". This was the third straw as we had been there the two previous evenings and had also been treated like rudely by the servers and managers then as well. Never again will be stay at the Omni or visit this restaurant and neither will the group I was with. read more

I'm visiting Ft Worth for a conference this week and was looking for something a little more than the meager offerings at the Sheraton- BTW don't eat there unless it's free - anywho I Yelped up bars and Whiskey & Rye popped up so I took a short walk to check it out. Let me just start with they have an amazing whisky collection. They have a very impressive list and can suit pretty much any taste you may have. The waitresses were amazing and super friendly - God I miss living in the South - and the portions were ridiculous sizes. I opted for the appetizer wings which was about 12 wings and they were incredible. I'm a bit of a wing snob and I can honestly say that their wings are in my top 5 - and I have had wings in 30 states and 2 countries. I had a lovely evening of cocktails and good company at Whiskey & Rye. I'd never been in the Omni, and it is certainly beautifully decorated at Christmastime. I came here on a date, and we were able to find a great table with ease. The restaurant is open and feels like a modernized saloon with ornate wooden features everywhere and the giant bar itself. I loved that there were TVs showing the Stars game and live acoustic music simultaneously. As for the cocktails, I sampled no less than 4 different ones. (Don't worry, I took an Uber!) I love whiskey, so their take on an Old Fashioned was superb--there were muddled blackberries that made the drink perfectly sweet and acidic. We also shared a chicken-fried chicken sandwich that was cheesy and delicious and huge. It was served with smashed potatoes, and I also enjoyed the accompanying pickle. Y'all know how much I love sandwiches and pickles, even on date night! My favorite snack was the appetizer-- piping hot waffle fries which were coated in buffalo sauce and blue cheese. It tasted like buffalo wings mated with french fries and this dish was their illicit love-child. It's big enough to share, and it was so hard to stop snacking on even though I was saving room for booze and an entree! The one thing that made this restaurant stand out among other bars in Downtown was the service provided by both my waiter and the manager, Jennifer. She visited each table to make sure our drinks were filled. She also gave us some recommendations on which cocktails she thought we'd like most based upon our liquor preferences. The server was also super attentive. I also noticed that, because this is a hotel bar, it is a perfect place for a big party. Few places in downtown can accommodate parties of 8-20, but I saw multiple groups come through Whiskey & Rye without a wait or hassle or even a reservation. It was quite nice to find a well appointed bar inside the Omni where we were staying over Thanksgiving. Being a huge footie fan, Chelsea of course, I had done some research as to where the Chelsea fans gather in Ft. Worth to watch games. Not finding one which was convenient we opted and hoped that Whiskey and Rye would come to our rescue. Once we arrived and checked in, we made a bee-line down to catch the game. One thing I was really impressed with is as soon as I walked into the bar, they not only had the Chelsea Champions League game on, but 90% of all the games were on. Pretty impressive, since it is quite odd to find any yank bar putting footie games on. The bar itself is very upscale with loads of leather and modern chic. They had a couple of pool tables, not coin up, but there for guests to use. Many televisions all over the place made it quite easy to get comfy where you want to sit. It was not pretentious one bit. Suz and I took our usual position of being at the bar and met the bartender, who immediately started talking footie with us. Of course, we stood out like a sore thumb since we were wearing our Blue. I was actually pretty impressed with his knowledge of the beautiful game and put our match on quickly. We were a little peckish from our drive up from Austin and ordered a couple of items. The Burger Sliders, Guac and Salsa. Once we got them, it did take an unusually long time to get them, they were actually quite excellent. The guac serving was pretty substantial and the salsa was smokey and plenty. The sliders were cooked medium and served on a fresh toasted bun. A nice surprise to say the least. I enjoyed several of the beers, Rahr on tap was tasty, and enjoyed great service from TJ our bartender that day. Since it was a wednesday before Thanksgiving around 1.30pm, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Friday night was a whole another story. Popped in for a night cap before heading up to our room and the bar was rocking! Many folks enjoying drinks and a having a laugh. For a hotel bar, so to speak, this was really quite a change from what I have experienced in the past. So when the crowd is light, Whiskey & Rye is alright. They have a good selection of whiskey--as you would expect--a good cocktail menu, and the food is quite good. The drink prices are high, but not outrageous, the food prices are actually reasonable. You pay a lot for location. This was one of the first restaurants we tried after moving to DFW. We stopped in one Saturday early evening after a day of exploring downtown FW, and we were quite pleased with everything. But since then we've tried to come back later in the evening, and things haven't gone well. Unfortunately, unless you are sitting at the bar, service is poor. Like really poor. The past 2 times my husband and I tried to eat a late meal and get some drinks, we've walked out. The first time we waited 25 minutes, and no service, and the second time it was nearly 40. The second time it was really crowded, to be fair, but the hostess knew we were there. She stopped by twice and asked if our orders had been taken, and each time said that a server would be with us soon. Honestly, if you see people haven't gotten service in over half an hour--you yourself should just take our drink orders at least. Anyway, if you walk in and it isn't super busy and/or you can get a seat at the bar, it's a nice place for a meal and some drinks. If not though, just walk out. Very slow on this Monday night which allowed me to have a choice of seats to watch football. Lots of TVs including one projecting on a wall for all to see. Good service and nothing I had was bad. My two complaints: limited menu, out of stock liquor. The whiskey, bourbon, rye, etc. list is formidable but if nothing is in stock what difference does it make? I can drink bullet or buffalo trace anywhere. I had to go to my THIRD choice to find something that was available. Either stock it or update the menu, being told "nope" just frustrates people! I loved the service so much that I went twice in one day. The drinks were fruity and very cold. My boyfriend tried a bourbon that he really enjoyed. We tried the shrimp tacos and they were delicious! W&R is way more fun than a hotel bar/restaurant should be! We usually go here a few times on trips to FW when we stay at the Omni, but it has also become our go-to downtown bar for fun live music and good late night eats. It's also the perfect bar to take the after party after a wedding! Drinks are a bit pricey, but the service is quick and they definitely do not skimp on the alcohol. They carry a nice wine by the glass selection, and have plenty of choice beers on tap. The moscow mules are some of the best cocktails I've tried from the menu, but if you want margaritas, go to Mi Cocina just a few blocks away - the margs at W&R are nothing special (and not worth the $$$). The food menu is on the heavier side, but most of them meant to be shared. Chips & salsa/guac/queso (TX Trio) is a reliable favorite of ours, but recently we tried the hummus and were surprised at how tasty it was. Chicken tamales are enough for one person to eat as a meal, and the artichoke flatbread is really good. There is live music on the weekends, but it definitely draws a crowd, so snag the first open seat you see if you want to stay and listen for awhile. Parking with the hotel is expensive if you aren't staying there, but if you don't mind walking, there is usually parking on the streets nearby. Overall, we visit the Omni often and are so glad that there is a super fun bar there that we can enjoy! Cheers! read more

This hotel lounge in the base of the downtown Fort Worth Omni plays a little bit like the other accoutrements at this reasonably new build, which is to say, well. I'd wager that Whiskey & Rye sits, perhaps, at the intersection of upscale and sports forward lounge, and I've not been surprised in days past to find this an amenable spot to grab anything from a decent craft brew to a worthwhile single malt. It's big, they do get the requisite amount of corporate and convention traffic, so there's always a little bit of the tourist element at play here. That said, the service in my experience is pretty solid and I've noted that the product selection, while not inexhaustible, is decent. And I remain a sucker for ambient lighting. I'm not in here often, but I'm always comfortable when those days arrive. read more

I really do like W&R. I mean, the name alone contains two of my favorite food groups, and its not skimping one the variety either. Very fulfilling list of small batches, ryes, blended whiskeys, bourbon, and heck, even some global interpretations on the good nectar... The food leaves a little to be desired. The presentations are good, but its still laissez-faire sports bar meets hotel food. The servers are cute, sweet, and helpful, and the scenery has a good selection of TVs for the games, a pool table, and regular musical acts in house. Totally a fun little spot to stop by when staying at the Omni. I ate lunch here while waiting for my room to be readied so I doubt this is your typical review. However, there are definitely some features that deserve to be remarked upon! First off- the PRICING is DAMN good! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with chips and a diet coke. The whole meal, including tax came to 10$. Maybe I am used to Chicago, NYC, or DC prices, but this seemed more than reasonable. Really. And if they serve this (and they do) in the evening, WOW. I wish I had bars that served food this cheap at home! Service was quick, responsive and on the spot. I did not feel like a freak eating here alone. Maybe because it was a hotel, but still... The pool tables looked decent. I wanted to play a couple of rounds, but then again, I knew I HAD to get to my room and get to work, do I denied myself the pleasure. But again- FREE POOL. Maybe I am used to my corners of the world, but we don't usually have this... I am being generous with the stars, but they hit the spot. If you are looking for a classy hotel bar that has a warm atmosphere with dark woods and leather, a fine bar, and pool tables then you have arrived! This bar is always a hot spot, so we were disappointed when we arrived at 11:00pm and it was dead. We had a large group so we were fine making our own party. After about 5 minutes the live music started and we realized why the place was empty. It was not so much the actual music that was a turn off, but more the volume. You honestly couldn't even hear yourself talk. So I can't give this place a great review based on this visit. BUT, I can say I would still highly recommend it based on all of my previous experiences. I've got to say first that this is a good place. The selection was good and the prices fair and I was glad we found it to watch a football game. I especially enjoyed the free pool, but my friends didn't enjoy it so much. I'm a hard breaker and the table is fast so no few breaks flew off the table; "clack... clack... clack, clack, cl, cl, clclclack rooooooll" on the hard wood floor, resounding through the entire place. My friends looked away, forgetting my name. That does reveal one possible issue. The space is very open and full of hard surfaces, so I can imagine that the place could get pretty loud when busy; perhaps even painfully so if there is an event just let out from the nearby convention center. Regardless, Whiskey & Rye was a comfortable joint, everything being new and kept up. Service was nice and the atmosphere fine and definitely not a bad place to go if staying downtown on a trip or if one has other business downtown. For me, though, it wasn't enough of a draw for me to head up there if I wasn't already in the area. read more
