The phrase "and 'good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye' in Whiskey and Rye" sums up exactly what you may see in this very standard hotel bar. The dark, spacious environment promotes the whiskey program here, providing a good dose of class and liquor. As you can imagine, the noise is a little loud, but not overly, mind you. They provide a handful of not overly large TVs so as to distract. Drinks are prepared with an appropriate level of care, though they cost more than they should, as I saw some confusion between bartenders on how a certain beverage was prepared. The menu boasts many a classic cocktails that do not err on the girly side, what with blue and red colors. They prepare the beverages here to your preference, so they definitely do not come off as pretentious and snobby at this watering hole--not that you can call this much of a watering hole. Located in the OMNI, convenience ranks at the top of the reasons to check it out. I enjoyed my time here, but the food does take a bit to get out of the kitchen, and I just set myself up for higher expectations, I suppose. Had some dinner/lunchette thing here twice while waiting for my wife doing her convention thing across the street. Food was definitely not memorable, tried the salad (they only had Cobb Salad - my least favorite), and the brisket sliders. Salad - definitely a 1 by California standards. It was just nasty, but Texas isn't known for salad, I realize that. Thing was drenched with some nasty ranch type dressing. Tons of hard boiled eggs (which I basically don't like much either) and so many bacon bits that you could hardly call it a "healthy option". Texas needs to start posting calories on the menu like California restaurants have to... people would make wiser choices (and maybe the Texans would lose some girth in areas where it isn't desirable..). Sliders... definitely "ok" - I would give it a 3. $12 for about 2 ounces of a cheap cut of meat (brisket) spread across 3 dinner-roll sized buns just sounds steep though, and it was. Sweet potato fries were good. Beer - yuck... Texas isn't known for the brew either. Dumb waitress says they focus on "artisan beers & micro brews"... huh... ? Coors, Coors Lite, Sam Adams, etc. I'm not sure she knew what "artisan or micro brew" is. But I didn't think the IQ was above 70 anyway. I tried the one local one, some IPA, not memorable. Tasted kind of like a Michelob or something with some food coloring. I needed a lime to choke it down with. 3 (small) Sliders (one order), 1 salad floating in ranch dressing, 2 (1 pint) beers = $57.00. Service... 1 star, I never did get offered a refill, initial order took about 20 minutes, I moved from the bar to a table because it seemed like the tables got better service than the bar (and they did), dude was too busy stocking up with more Coors & Miller Lite "micro brews" in the fridge than to help new customers... The Omni Hotel itself was just average, definitely not very good for the price. If staying in Fort Worth, look for the Westin or something. No meal options around the block either, it's a hike to get anything. Parking is nightmarish in downtown Fort Worth too by the way. We had reservations down the street for a Friday night dinner, had to abandon it after circling up to 9 blocks away looking for (any) parking or parking lot space. read more

I'm a bourbon drinker. So, this place is one of my cocktail favs! The staff is amazing. The servers are all so sweet. But, a special mention of Sam, Stacey and Molly. The manager is super nice too (didn't catch her name). Food is good. The Venison chili is perfect for these cold winter days. They also have two pool tables for added activity. read more

This would have rated a five star because the did and bar are pretty good. Then the singer took the stage. Talented, yet so loud that after half the first song several people got up and left. The manager at W/R "didn't see a problem with the volume"). My group went next door to Starbucks, where the barista commented that this particular singer routinely drives people from the bar. Even in Starbucks down the hall he was so loud that we couldn't hear the Starbucks music. Great during the day (we had lunch here), but nasty painfulness in the evening, even from next door. Ouch. Pros: good selection of whiskey/scotch, seats and atmosphere are fantastic, friendly accommodating staff(I did ask to have the cast iron menu but is offered on their bar menu), cocktails, location Cons: prices ( are based on location/available clientele and not actual quality)...you could pay $2 less for a better sandwich at capital or Ruth Chris. Staff not as knowledgable as expected for whiskey drinks or their whiskeys, primarily focused on the specials and attentiveness could use some work( ie comeback for water orders and do t take so long on the check). Noise level/ clientele for style if bar. Overall recommend to see, try a local whiskey or bourbon(don't worry they won't know the difference) but the food is better than a lot of places and the chairs are so comfy! read more

This place is very nice. It is a fantastic place for a group of people to gather for drinks. They have comfortable couches and chairs to lounge and chat with friends. The food is excellent I ordered a southern fried which is a chicken fried chicken breast served on a bun with jalapeños jack cheese and ranch dressing. My friend ordered a southern club which looked very good. The prices aren't that bad either. I had a salad with it and I don't normally like salads but it was very good. Whiskey & Rye is a classy place to have a cocktail with the wife or girlfriend. ALthough, I ordered a whisky drink that called for ginger ale and they didn't have any ginger ale. My wife ordered some sort of fruity martini and they didn't have one of the ingredients. They had a large drink menu, but had to take our order 2 or 3 times as they were out of certain things. Jon Taffer would have had a field day with the bartender. Overall though, a very nice, clean bar. They try to sell you the newer Texas whiskeys. I'm always of the frame of mind that russians can make vodka better than Texans, and lets leave the whiskey to the folks in Kentucky and Canada. I trust a Texan with my steak and oil. read more

Great find!!! And unexpected in a hotel. From the street it doesn't look like anything special. But go there and enjoy the wood everywhere, wonderful drinks, 2 pool tables, lots of televisions and tables, including longer ones close to the bar. If you're seeking out mediocre food and poor service, then definitely hit this place up. I arrived this evening with two colleagues for a round of drinks and a bite to eat. The place was almost completely empty at 7:30pm on a Sunday (that should have been our first clue to flee). Food: only one of us ordered food, a burger with fries. The sweet potato fries were ice cold, as if they had been sitting around for hours. One of us ordered a specialty cocktail, which was undrinkable. When we inquired as to why it tasted so bad, the server went back to check with the bartender. She then came back and said, oh, the bartender forgot to add in the simple syrup. She took the drink away and didn't charge us for it, but neglected to bring us a new drink. We won't be back, and unless you're looking for mediocrity, you shouldn't either. read more

The atmosphere is great, usually live music, pool table and tons of people chit chatting and having a few drinks. I've eaten once and it was great. The new Omni in Fort Worth is really nice! After dinner elsewhere, we checked it out for a drink. They have a few options but we settle on Whiskey & Rye and watched the end of the Rangers game. The service is your typical bar service - not so great - and the drinks were definitely a step down. However, when the margaritas are $3.50 (!!!!) what do you really expect? I would stick to straight cocktails or beer here, even the chocolate martini disappointed. They had a live band that was pretty good, and lots of TVs to catch the games. read more

Was visiting FW on business and visited Whiskey & Rye almost everyday for either lunch, dinner and/or just drinks. The food was delicious and the staff was super friendly and helpful. I had 3 different bartenders on 4 different occasions and all were superb. I even got chatting with the chef who was very passionate about his menu and served up some great dishes for me. The atmosphere was fun, yet chill and comfortable. I had the salmon sandwich; holy yumminess! That mango-jicama slaw was divine. I also has a house salad with grilled chicken. Seems basic but the chicken was cooked perfectly; tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. Lastly I had the cowtown brisket dip which was a little too spicy for my palette but really flavorful. This was a nice bar. I went with a group of 8 and there was plenty of great seating for bigger groups. The drinks are pricier, I paid $20 for a 9 oz pour of Chardonnay, and there is no happy hour. Steak fajitas nachos which were fair and a decadent Burger "the Epicurian" which was cooked medium to perfection topped with texas goat cheese, bacon marmalade and a roasted chile pepper. Inside the Omni Hotel, this Fort Worth bar would be a little hard to find if you are not staying at the hotel or are not a local. I went on a Sunday afternoon for the football game. There was a decent crowd and the bartenders were very accommodating and friendly (even changing the TV to the Jet game for me). Prices are reasonable and the food looked great. I had the corn chowder soup which was delicious. There are pool tables and long tables if you come with a crowd. read more

Just left the bar, had the worst service ever!!!! The waitress took our order & did not come back for over 55 minutes!!!! If they were busy I could possibly let this go but there were MAYBE 15 to 20 customers in there and they had several more waiters/waitresses working . This place is top notch. I called in to reserve an event a month prior, stupidly not realizing that there was an event that would interfere with my plans because several other groups had plans at this bar also. The manager, I believe her name was Jennifer, went out of her way to accommodate us. They set up a separate area and table along with a sign for our guests. The wait staff was also incredibly responsive and helpful. One particular waitress knew what I wanted to order before I even said a word.
