Late night in search of something sweet, whiskey cake is your spot! First, the decor is so cool, what a beautifully designed restaurant concept. It's dark and romantic but not stuffy. It reminds me of a fancy cottage with a wood fireplace and flannel blanket on a cold winter's night! Of course if the restaurants name is whiskey cake, you need to try the whiskey cake and WOW. It did not disappoint. Moist and flavorful toffee cake with delicious in house made whip cream that was not overly sweet, the pecans were glazed and crunchy but not over the top. Our server even brought us some ice cream on the side which slowly melted at the base of the warm cake making a pool of cream with each bite. Absolutely delicious! This was my first ever bad experience with this restaurant. This was my second time ordering takeout from there. The first time the food was great, this time not so much. I ordered the Farmers Breakfast which comes with eggs, biscuit, millionare's bacon with is supposed to be candie, herb pota and white cheddar roasted green chili grits. I also ordered the Jessica Wabbit. I asked prior to ordering the Jessica Wabbit how many ounces which the person told me she was not sure but it is served in a tall glass. I asked for one without any ice. My issue all my food was in one box except for my grits which they forgot all together. The bacon was not candied at all, more like regular hickory bacon. My biscuits were wet on the bottom from being place on top of the eggs. And my drink...I paid $5.50 for about 3 ounces or less of juice. When I asked the person who brought it out to me she said that's how much you get without the ice, seriously. I do not get ice with many of my drinks from any restaurants or fast foods but never have I been handed a less than full cup/container. Needless to say, I will not be having brunch at Whiskey Cake anytime in the near future. read more

This has been disappointing. I have been several times and the food and service were very good. Today's effort was a fail...and this was my wife's first time to WC. We ordered the deviled eggs and two tasted like bleach...the other three were spicy and interesting. My wife ordered the salmon which can out slowly but had obviously been done for a while as it was barely warmer than room temperature (and it was over cooked!). She ordered the kale and carrots to accompany yet they never showed. I ordered the chicken and cheese sandwich. It was very tasty however it was room temperature. Further, the fries were the bits from the bottom of the machine and were not what you would expect. The wine glass sat empty for about 10 minutes with a check for another. This was surprising considering we were sitting at the bar. We will be back and give it another go but we will be on high alert for a best effort. read more

It took me quite a while to figure out what I wanted as a result ( the guest next to my table has the same issue). I ordered the pickled Rachel, it was a good sandwich and was served with chips. The sandwich size was appropriate to the ratio of chips. The drinks are expensive $10 avg. I ordered a cranberry cider, not bad. Outside of that, the service was good. I love the ambiance of this restaurant. It's very cozy and you feel like you're in a wood cabin out in the woods. The lights are dim at night, making it a fun atmosphere for a date night or a group gathering. Right now, I think their menu is limited due to COVID, so the options aren't as vast as it should be (is what I understood from reading their menu online). I got the pork sliders and thought they were decent. I got full off of one. The whiskey cake, of course, was the star of the show. I mean, it has to be if it's the name of their restaurant. It is a dense cake and the various sauces you can have on top make it a very rich and decadent dessert. Definitely don't skip out on this because it's delightful. I don't remember all the sauces, but I think there was a caramel one, a white sauce that reminded me of marshmallow fluff, and whipped cream that looked like ice cream. The restaurant was crowded but we were greeted and sat immediately upon entering. The wait staff was friendly and professional. It looked and felt like all hands were on deck. Like all scratch kitchens, the food comes out at a snail's pace, but that unfortunately seems to be the new normal. With that said, we went for brunch and the food and drinks were great. We started with the duck wings. They were tasty and definitely just a "snack" because you only get 3. I had one of their custom juices and the breakfast burger. The ambiance is contemporary blend of industrial, western, and bohemian with low-light in the dining area which provides privacy & intimacy in a public setting. The atmosphere is lively enough that you cannot make a phone call, but not too loud to hear the company at your own table. There is a patio open year round that features curtains & a fireplace during cool weather. Whiskey Cake has over 400 whiskeys and a respectable beer selection as well as the offerings of a full bar. Unable to choose a drink, my gf had a whiskey flight (four whiskey samples). Their menu is unique, lists seasonal items, and has traditional favorites. I recommend the candied bacon appetizer which comes with a fantastic carmelized onion dip and the fried green tomatoes to start with. The chicken & waffle entree is a generous portion; enough for two people to share. The short rib with spaghetti squash is perfectly seasoned; it requires no sauce. I also loved the adult mac n' cheese - which has bread crumbs and bacon. And, finally, their signature Whiskey Cake topped with candied pecans and whipped creme is one of a kind. Special shout-out to our server, Jordan, who made our meal enjoyable with attentive service and a great attitude! Went here with my mom and brother for early Mother's Day and we had Uche(hope I'm spelling that right) as our server. He made our experience great. He checked on us often and seemed knowledgable of the menu. My mom talked me into the farmers breakfast which I was highly skeptical of, once I got it it was so good. Extremely filling. I couldn't finish my plate and I can usually finish anything. My mom got the mimosa flight and loved every bit of it. It was reasonably priced and she finished all of it. My brother got the chicken and waffles and could only finish the chicken but he really enjoyed that too. We could definitely come back here again! read more

Jesus Christ. Whiskey Cake is literally the best cake I've ever had in my life. I'm addicted and committed to remaking this cake. Me and a couple of my girlfriends came here as a midpoint between our homes and honestly, I don't even remember what my entree was. A burger of some sort. The ambiance was pretty casual- the bar was happening since it was happy hour and the decor was pretty mod. We especially loved the molds of hand positions along the wall. Anyway, we got the whiskey cake because we felt obliged to and all three of us immediately understood the magnitude of what we just did- tasted a piece of our onset diabetes. I have been to a whiskey cake in Katy, Texas so was delighted to find out I had one in my own backyard. The hostess walked me over to my party since I wasn't sure where they were sitting. My duck breast was beyyyoooonnnd amazing. I wouldve licked that plate so good haha the carrot puree was velvety and seasoned to perfection and the other vegetables had a nice crunch to it. The duck breast was a little tough but I think that is normal for duck? It's been a while since I've had it. The restaurant itself is right out of s farmhouse dream from the dishware to the bar area which does have a craft cocktail feel to it aswell. Service was great! Being I arrived late I wasn't able to order a drink with my meal since the duck breast was so good it was gone before my wine came out. I love this place! I came here with some coworkers for a birthday lunch. We had a reservation (I think) because we got seated immediately, and we had about 10 people in our group. They were very accommodating! I came here for lunch, so I didn't get anything to drink besides water. I love that they give your tables water bottles to pour your own glasses if the waitress isn't around. But if they do notice your water is running on the empty side, they will pour it for you. Our waitress was really great. We ordered, and the food came out PRETTY FAST. I was surprised. _ Pork Brisket $15 This was delicious. I was very happy with this. The pork brisket was really tender and very flavorful. Not dry at all, which is always a risk ordering pork. It was also served with poblano-jack cheese grits and that was heavenly. It was really tasty and had that cheese taste that you would expect. The salsa on top of the pork wasn't really much of a salsa, and more so slices of (pear? apple?) with a few chopped pieces of soft tomatillo. It was still good and complemented the pork nicely. _ Whiskey Cake $8 The reason why anyone goes here I'm sure. That cake is SO GOOD. It tasted amazing, and was NOT overly sweet. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so for me, this hit the spot. Now granted, I only had one bite haha. But that bite was magic. Also magic? The whipped cream. It was not your standard whipped cream. It was almost gooey like a melted marshmallow, but so much smoother and not sticky like marshmallow. Everything about this was just A+ GO! if you haven't. I hate to give a bad review, but this place was not good. :/ Nothing my family ordered tasted great - it's like a slightly elevated chili's, don't know why I expected more lol. The waitress recommended ordering the short rib with paparadelle, which in theory sounds AMAZING. However, every part of the dish fell short. The meat and the pasta were flavorless, literally no sauce or seasoning it was strange. The only good thing here is the whiskey cake, which is actually how I felt the last time I was at the plano location years ago - just feel like the food is consistently underwhelming. Also, my sister ordered a burger with fries and I believe the next table over had someone order a burger with potato chips. They accidentally brought our table the burger with potato chips, which my sister started munching on, assuming the waitress would just bring her a side of fries. But I'm 99% sure she took the plate my sister was eating the chips off of, take it indoors, then bring it right back out to give to the woman who ordered the burger with chips.... I even heard her ask if this was fresh food lol.......Again I am just speculating, but the fact that the other woman's food came out almost immediately after the waitress took my sister's food in was sketchhh and I think the other customer questioned it too... gross! especially during covid... read more

(Review from 6/8/21) Good food and drinks with a lively, upbeat atmosphere. We went around 6:30pm and about a 7 minute wait. The place was completely packed. Started off with the Local Board which was explained to us as meats and cheeses locally sourced. Good choice- several items, especially enjoyed the sausage and cheese, the beef jerky was interesting but tasty. Obviously an extensive whiskey selection. I went with the Bourbon Flight, which I enjoyed. They have many flight choices, in addition to what is listed on their menu, they had a whole flight menu. I was craving a burger, so went with the Double Double Burger which was delicious. My friends had the salmon and brisket and both enjoyed theirs. Our server was nice but it took awhile to get her attention as needed, and the drinks took longer to get to us than expected. We were having good conversations, so not an issue but the reason I couldn't give 5 stars. Enjoyed our dinner and would definitely go back when in the area. read more

Almost ventured here last night on my travels. An amazing motif, atmosphere is perfect. Very comfortable and welcoming. Everyone has off days and this one wasn't one for me. Started on the wrong foot and was difficult to recover from. I mentioned twice, while demonstrating, the table wobble needed help. The water bottle splashed. Hell it induced the flame of the candle to scream for help. The server giggled and not once attempted to fix, or to get someone to solve the obvious problem. It's the little things. The drinks were infallible the sandwich nice (see pic). I would attempt again, hopefully on the right foot. I'm walking out non plussed wishing for more. read more

We came here for happy hour/dinner and were seated quickly since we already made reservation. Parking was plenty out front. Drinks were only $5 for certain cocktails during happy hour which lasts until 6pm. The guava cocktail was delicious. We also got the local board, deviled eggs, chips and dips which were all good. For main entrees, I got the duck breast and asked for it to be cooked medium but it came out medium well so that's why I took off one star. Service overall was good and quick. Amazing restaurant! Was in town visiting friends and found this on Yelp... Food was incredible - everything was fresh and delicious. Our server, Shelby, was so enthusiastic and sweet, and very attentive. She went above and beyond, even checking to make sure I liked my drink after I set it to the side to make room for our appetizer and forgot about it! My friends and I had the Brussels Sprouts appetizer, which was incredible. I had the grains bowl, my friend had the rotisserie chicken, and her boyfriend got the chicken and waffles, and every bite was delicious. The best part of the dinner was dessert, because Shelby convinced us to get the titular Whiskey Cake, and WOW! As my friend's bf said, "I could eat this cake for the rest of my life and never need another dessert ever." I'm already raving and recommending this restaurant to my friends here in Austin. read more
