Whiskey Cake just wasn't the place for me. None of the main dishes appealed to my wife or me so we ordered appetizers for dinner: Goat cheese dip, deviled eggs, chicken meatballs and the butcher board. The food and its presentation was not up to my expectations. My favorites were the goat cheese dip, which I loved and would absolutely get again, and the deviled eggs which were yummy but not presented as uniformly as I would expect. The chicken meatballs were extremely salty, dry, irregular shaped and served in a bowl with the inside smeared with hummus. It was unattractive and off putting. The butcher board arrived late because of an error in the order. Unfortunately I struggled finding things I liked on the board. All the flavors were extremely strong. The restaurant was absolutely packed on a Tuesday night, but fortunately we had made reservations, unfortunately we still had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated. The servers seemed inexperienced and/or rude and disruptive to guests, for instance, by loudly dragging chairs and tables across the floor and grabbing our menus off the table before my wife ordered. Also our order didn't arrive correctly and the kitchen staff placed an item on our table that we didn't order. Even though the atmosphere of Whiskey Cake is cool with a unique "new southern" decor vibe, we were seated directly under a harsh light, while the rest of the restaurant was dark, which wasn't relaxing. I was with Michael M. and want to share my firsthand experience as well. As a military veteran, I believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. When we asked to move from the unstable table, our waitress was kind and helpful, no issues there (Jade was an amazing waitress). But when another couple later sat at that same table, the hostess's behavior was extremely unprofessional. She snatched the menu out of the guest's hand instead of simply explaining that the table was unsafe. Multiple people witnessed it and spoke up, not just us. What made the situation worse was the manager's lack of response. Several guests complained, yet he did nothing to address the hostess's behavior. She stood behind him as if expecting protection rather than accountability. That kind of dynamic doesn't reflect a healthy customer-focused environment. We weren't trying to start anything. We were just trying to enjoy a meal without conflict. But no customer should be made to feel intimidated or disrespected and leadership should never ignore valid concerns brought forward by multiple guests. This community supports local businesses, and in return, customers deserve basic courtesy and professionalism. I sincerely hope this experience leads to improvements in how guests are treated. Went here a while back and ordered the Chicken & Cheese Melt, the Turkey Burger, and the Little Pink Drink. Absolutely LOVED the chicken & cheese melt. It has rotisserie chicken, dill havarti, basil garlic aioli, avocado smash, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and toasted sourdough. The chicken was well seasoned and the bacon was cooked perfectly! My friend got the turkey burger - said it tasted pretty good and that it was a very filling meal. As I had not been there before, the waitress was patient answering all my questions. The menu had a good variety, all within the theme of the restaurant. I was in the mood for a burger and the Tavern Burger did not disappoint. It was cooked well. The ketchup has some unique spices so expect a bit of heat. We visited on a Saturday night as part of a large group for a birthday celebration. The place was super crowded and we had do wait a bit even though we had a reservation. Our server was nice (I can't remember her name) but she was completely overwhelmed with our party size. She really needed another server to assist because she kept forgetting things and it took forever for our food to come out. My hubby and I ordered the crab fritters for an appetizer and we didn't like them. There was definitely more cheese than crab. This place was awesome. Such a cool bar that's the center focus of the entire restaurant. The whiskey list is truly amazing and I couldn't stop looking at the floor to ceiling wall of bottles. The staff was friendly but not overly chatty because they were so busy the whole time. I really enjoyed the flight because I have never been somewhere to sample different options. After that I picked one of their multiple old fashioneds and it was delicious. I started with the fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs and they were both great. Not sure if that makes sense, I guess you'd have to see it, to understand what I mean. Very clean, and very well-maintained. Menu comes out on a legal size sheet of paper. Not impressed with the menu choices or the pricing. Quality was very good, but not a good value for the price. Server was okay for a "Cotton Patch" experience, but not for a place with these prices! (What little bit we got of) the Shrimp & grits was excellent... it looked more like an appetizer (included a picture if you're interested). I'm not a fan of grits, so you can guess how I felt about that! In my opinion, Only a Fine Dining restaurant should expect customers to pay $26 for what we got, as a main menu item. We got a side salad and the house dressing is delish! The salad had a really good mix of greens and tasted very fresh(I think they grow the herbs there) they also sell candle and other items I noticed I got the chicken sandwich and it comes with fries. Let me start by saying this place used to be amazing. It was my go to spot for date night with the wife, birthdays, impressing guests from out of town, happy hour after work, you name it. Over the last 6-months this place has really gone down hill. They have changed their menu replacing well designed entrees and sides (hello edamame succotash) with flavorless alternatives. The whiskey cake that is their name sake feels like it's mass produced now. And the quality control of the food that does come out of the kitchen is lacking. I would have relayed this all to the manager (especially because the 24oz ribeye me and my wife shared was so undercooked it was blue and we had to take it home to finish cooking) but he avoided our table our entire visit despite us spending over $300 for a table of two adults and a 3 year old. For the price point of this restaurant, it does not meet standards anymore. The only thing I am thankful for is that I can cross this off the long list of excellent restaurants in this area that I am always trying to pick between. read more

This is the same bullying, "you'll do what we say" mentality we see from the elites every day. They think you're cattle. Don't let their fake apologies gaslight you. This was policy. They knew the table was broken and chose to use it. They then chose to intimidate customers who refused it. This is a perfect microcosm of the whole rotten system: broken services, contempt for you, and brute force when you dare to think for yourself. Share this review. It is a very busy restaurant and good size too. My friends spoke highly about Whikey Cake in Houston, so we decided to go to this location for dinner. We sat in 15 minutes, and that was awesome considering there were a lot of people. They have patio, side rooms, main dining, and bar seating. Our server was very nice and attentive. Food: Smoked Chopped Chicken Salad Lemon Grass Shrimp Salad Wood Fired Salmon The chopped salad was ice berg Lettuce and the chicken had no flavor. The dressing was good. My friend said her shrimp salad was ok. When they served the salmon, it smelt funny that I have a funny look. I didn't try it because of that. My friend ate the dish and the next morning, she was throwing up. That's when I told her I could smell the funky smell. It was not fresh. Overall, I'd return to have brunch instead of dinner. I ended up going to this location for a friends birthday brunch one Saturday. I have been to the Plano location multiple times and love it. I like the feel of the place and recalled them having great food. I was a little late to show up but got to try an array of different things that were all quite good taste wise. Their Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits $8.00 come with country gravy and were very tasty, you can actually tell there is jalapeno in them unlike some places. It went well with their gravy. Their Colossal Cinnamon Roll $10.00 was also quite good, it was decadent and very rich but had great flavor. I especially liked the spiced pecans mixed with the sauces. A bunch of the girls did splits on their entrees so I had half of the Chicken & Cheese Melt $17.50 and half of the Rooster Royale $15.50. Both were quite good in their own ways. The melt had such great crisp crunch from the sourdough bread that you could hear it when you bite into it, without it being too hard texture wise. The only down part was that it did not quite hold all of the meat and toppings so it would often spill out the side of back when eating, kind of messy but delicious! The Rooster Royale was also pretty tasty, good crunchy breading and you could really taste the hot honey on it. Since it was a birthday celebration we got a Whiskey Cake to share. This was also delicious, the cake was warm and soft while the sauces and whipped cream complimented it well, it is super rich so I only had like 2 bites. If they would match this with a good vanilla bean ice cream, this might be perfection. Now, the service is where this lost me. I never got the servers name but he was super slow on doing drink refills and randomly would go MIA for extended periods of time. If they were busy I might understand this but there was only like a handful of tables in the whole place and I know he wasn't the only server for the whole place. We did have a large party but our food came out as it was ready and not together which I thought was weird. This server also really needs to work on pre-bussing, anytime you are at the table and there are empty plates then you should take what you can to try and clear space/not have dirty dishes sitting on the tables. He did "apologize" for the food delay by blaming it on the kitchen staff, not a great team mentality. They really need to work on their service here. I would not go back, especially since the Plano location is much more consistent and better overall. read more

The food and service was good, but in a group of 12 people when we politely told the staff a screw was in the salad, the GM came out but made a joke saying "well you finished the salad, must have still been good"... pretty awkward. He did apologize and said he was embarrassed, but only offered to comp the $20 salad. Our bill was $850+. Mistakes happen, we all human.
