In my opinion this was pretty bad. It's super Americanized street tacos that don't translate well. Everything was super heavy and lacked in flavor other than spice. I love spice but I love to taste other things with it. It was nice to see chips and salsa on the table when we sat down but was let down when the salsa tasted/looked like Tostitos off the shelf. The chips were super thick and almost burnt. We decided to get the queso and regretted that when that also tasted/looked like Tostitos off the shelf (but topped With pico?). The server noticed it seemed off and offered to swap us out for a guac, which also lacked flavor and tasted like it was sitting for a day or two. For my tacos I decided to go with a carnitas, Cajun shrimp and rock n rye carnitas. All on corn shells which tasted like they'd been microwaved for 30 seconds and then loaded up with room temp food. Seriously nothing was hot which was bazar. Again nothing to write home about, they all lacked any flavor I was merely putting food in me out of human necessity and not enjoyment. Maybe it was an off day but it was enough for me to not want to ever return. The price was just to much also for what they were serving. We ended up spending close to $50 on a starter and 3 tacos each. It seems like they have a big emphasis on drinks so maybe getting a little buzz first would of made it better. Maybe my expectations were too high but some tacos and a jalapeño margarita sounded great. Place was busy but not packed. Few tables open. Wanted to sit outside, little bit of a wait, sat at the bar. That jalapeño margarita is calling my name. Took a 10 minutes before anyone came to ask for drinks. Ordered, well, you know. The drink came fast. All heat, no flavor and way too sweet. It burned my lips for awhile. Figured the second one might be better. Nope. Finally a table outside. We only ordered drinks and only 4 total tacos. An hour later, cold tacos were served. Run of the mill non-authentic Mexican fare. They have thicker chips that seem homemade but they weren't warm. Neither of us cared for them. I had the shrimp fajitas as an entree. While it wasn't bad, it wasn't anything I'd return for either. Most fajitas taste the same wherever you go, but these did not. Again, it wasn't bad just nothing memorable. Rice tasted like the instant kind. Presentation was nice. No sour cream or guacamole came with the entree. If you prefer run of the mill non-authentic Mexican then this place may be for you. Not sure why there are two Mexican restaurants owned by the same person across the street from each other. I had not come here when they served more Mediterranean food so this is simply for the new concept of Mexican. Menu seems very similar to the other location. Th street tacos are a bit expensive specially when you had the rice and beans for an additional 3.95. We got the taco salad which was average. Also go the burrito Colorado which was bland considering it was supposed to be spicy. The ground beef also tasted a bit odd like it hadn't been made fresh that day. Also the rice was dry and no flavor. I will say the service was great. Very friendly and attentive. The outside patio is also very nice and place was clean. Got take out street tacos and an order of chips and guacamole. My wife is a vegetarian so it's always good to find a place that has options and owner said he was going to have more options soon. I got 2 chicken and 2 carne asada tacos and got my wife 2 potato and avocado and one poblano and corn tacos. This was as good as I have had in a long time. Maybe it's the quarantine diet since we have had take out only 3 times since 3/15 but DANG they were amazing. I lived in So Cal for 7 years and this place is legit. As a white boy that thoroughly enjoys Mexican food, this was fantastic! Super happy and satisfied with my visit. I ordered the Chicken Wet Burrito with half/half red and green sauce! Fantastic! The burrito was filled with shredded chicken, lettuce, tomatoes cheese and maybe a couple other things. It's massive and very filling! The chicken had a subtle flavor which was great in my opinion and not overpowering with seasonings or spices. The beans and rice were near perfect, too! The beans were soft, creamy and not hard and crusty. The rice was cooked to perfection without being hard and gross. A great combo to scoop up together for a bite or with a chip! My favorite part was the red sauce. The green sauce was good, but tasted a little saltier I believe. The red sauce has great flavor to add and go with the chicken burrito. Great Mexican food! And it's owned by a Navy veteran. The food was good-we ordered a carnitas taco, a honey bee market chorizo taco and the botana nachos with shredded chicken. We also ordered a side of guacamole and salsa. The tacos were incredibly tasty! A ton of flavor in each taco. But, the nachos were pretty basic. The chips had a nice crunch and the chicken had a decent amount of flavor, but the rest of the toppings weren't anything special. The nachos had globs of flavorless refried beans in random spots. The salsa was good-nice and fresh, but the guacamole had more tomatoes, onions & lettuce than avocados. The guacamole also needed salt and lime. If you want Mexican food in Clawson go here! They do the Mexican food right. Not going to lie at first I was confused with the switch from American food to Mexican food recently, but I was impressed. The margaritas are very large (love it!). Steven was our server and he was super friendly and attentive. We started with the Three Amigos which was Guacamole, Salsa and Pico de Gallo. I usually love Pico over salsa but in this case it probably could have been left off. The salsa was good enough. They are very generous with refilling the chips and we didn't need to ask twice. We also ordered the Vegetarian Quesadilla which is just cheese, so we got it with peppers and onions. It was really tasty. I like that they have an outdoor seating area for when it's warmer out. Went there on a Friday night, which was a mistake. I ordered a beer. They didn't have it. No big deal, but it showed up on the bill later. Three of us ordered two tacos each. We waited, and we waited... The waitress came by to apologize for the wait. Then we waited some more. The waitress came by to update us on our progress. Still no food. After an hour, we told her we needed to leave. She offered to put all the food in a carry out container. One container for all of our food. She left to get us our separate boxes. Finally a good local Mexican restaurant! This is kind of a strange spot. It CLEARLY was not originally a Mexican restaurant. Whatever it was has been retro-fitted to look marginally culturally appropriate. Whatever, so this isn't the most authentic joint in town?!? There are plenty of Mexican restaurants in town that look the part but couldn't take out the Montage Grill's trash in terms of service and food! First, in terms of service, the owner (I think) is always floating around and asking how things are. The wait staff is warm and always available to answer questions. You just feel really appreciated here. Such an easy thing that so many businesses miss. Next, the food is super solid. Not spectacular but very very good. I have had a number of things there. The wet burrito and tacos stand out as does the guacamole. The chips are really really good and clearly made in house fresh. They also have a reasonably priced kids menu. This is definitely a place where the kiddos are welcome. Lastly, the true benchmark item that so many Mexican restaurants miss for me is the margarita. Not only are they very good here but they are reasonably priced. I go for the mid tier margarita. It is big and served freshly made with a salt or sugar (I don't understand this option) rim. It is made with premium tequila and cointreau. $10. Hard to argue. One and you can maybe drive home. Two and you better not. They also have a really good beer selection. All and all, I really like this place. The atmosphere isn't the best but everything else is. I really recommend it. Great job to the whole Montage Grill team. read more

Heard so much hype about this place. Heard people call it "their favorite restaurant" or even "their favorite Mexican place." All I must say is: really? WTF was very disappointing. Chip portions were tiny, even for the paid appetizer. And with that, most of the chips in the basket were crumbs. Queso was not a liquid, but a solid. Margaritas were SO good. I will give them that. Guac had no flavor. I enjoyed my meal, but my three friends couldn't even finish half of theirs. Nachos were a giant mound of chips with a couple pieces of toppings. Will come back for drinks, but not order food. Any place downtown Royal oak can do it better, hate to say. 10/10 recommend those drinks 3/10 don't recommend the food. read more

They recently re-vamped the menu at Montage and it's wonderful! Previously a Greek menu has shifted to a mix of Mexican, Greek & Street food options. Excited for these options in downtown Clawson! My sweet waitress suggested the street tacos and they did it disappoint! Tried the blackened fish tacos with a lime slaw and spicy remounted sauce today. Soooo good! They were beautifully plated and the favors were fantastic. Everything I've tried here has been super tasty from the Greek salad to the burgers to the wrap sandwiches. Truly yummy. I've been living in Clawson since December of 2020 and have been to WTF more than any other restaurant in the area. I've had many experiences here and some have been better than others but more often than not I enjoy my experience. This place can get crowded really fast and really often so come with patience because it's a busy spot. I've had tacos, chimichangas, quesadillas, burritos and nachos over my many visits to WTF and enjoyed them all. My go to is usually the Bang Bang Shrimp taco or the Chimichurri steak taco but the quesadilla and chimichanga were both equally great depending on your taste in the moment. The chips and salsa are free and taste great. The salsa wasn't my favorite at first but grew on me and now I love it. The chips are house made and are great in taste and honestly don't even need salsa. My only knock and reason why I don't give the 5th star is because the rice is clearly some Uncle Ben's 90 second bagged rice and the retired beans are hit or miss. If they can figure this part out it'll be a 5/5! read more

Walked in 40 minutes before close tonight on 12/14/23 at 10:20PM and were hoping to have a quick bite. We were met with very rude behavior. Staff couldn't even come out from behind the bar to greet us and let us know their kitchen was closed, they stayed where they were and 2 of them shook their heads, making a motion with their hand to turn around, and told us to "turn right back around". We would have understood and come back another time had the staff been friendly, but that's not likely after this experience. read more

This is some of the best Mexican food in Metro Detroit, hands down! The chips and salsa that they bring out is so fresh and delicious, we wish the plates were bigger so they didn't have to bring us refills so often :-P. We didn't try any of the appetizers, although all of them sounded soooo good. We were able to see some of the appetizers at the tables around us, and we regretted not getting one. The portions here are super huge - you will definitely not leave this place feeling like you needed more food. I ordered the Beef and Potato Burrito, and wow was this plate delicious! Honestly, one of the best burrito's that I have had in a long time. My wife went with the chicken fajitas, and that was a very tasty dish as well (super fresh onions and green peppers!). The only thing I didn't care for was the spanish rice that came with both entree's. It definitely lacked flavor, and was very bland. But then again, I didn't come here just for the rice, so I didn't let this knock any stars off the review. I've eaten here enough times to know I don't love it. To me it's more Tex-Mex that leaves a bit to be desired. I appreciate the extensive cocktail list and decent tortilla chips but for the price you're paying it's just nothing overwhelming. And after my visit this evening, excited to try the side of street corn, was extremely disappointed in what was just looked like corn from a can, whatever seasoning and some lime juice. No cheese, Mayo, sour cream or how street corn traditionally is. And the biggest disappointment was when I brought it to our waitresses attention she asked "they didn't put cheese on it?" (No) but I still got charged for it. $18 for lackluster "street corn", enchiladas that while they tasted okay, presentation left a lot to be desired, rice and some off tasting refried beans? First time at this place and won't be going back. The chicken in the enchiladas seemed like it was bolied and had zero flavor. The refried beans had no flavor. The chips arrived cold with salsa that again had no flavor. The wet burrito was dry, had little to no sauce. Overheard a customer say that the food arrived faster than taco Bell. This was actually true, the food came out in about 5 minutes. Unfortunately Taco Bell would have been better. Not sure why this place has such high ratings, Yelp let us down this time.
