Whiskey Town rocks! We came on a Friday night in search of a sports bar to watch the Texas game and there was plenty of room here. It got more crowded as the night went on but the vibes were great. They have a limited food menu which was alright. I enjoyed the cheesesteak grilled cheese and the pretzel but they are bar food at the end of the day, nothing to write home about. I wish they had fries but they don't have a kitchen. Anyway, I loved the DJ. They also have darts and a photo booth! Good spot with a variety of fun activities. read more

When hubby spotted Whiskey Town's neon BAR sign a block away, all we needed to do was just park. And a little sumthin' sumthin' before getting to a party playing House Music in Brooklyn, is all we needed. By the way- there's a bouncer outside checking IDs. Place is a bit bigger than a matchbox, there's a DJ up on a platform and an open space if you wanna do a two-step. I just think Whiskey Town gets a reputation for attracting a bunch of 20-something year olds from like the Midwest. And what a sight it was...college kids were really kickin' it while they "jammed" to the DJ's outdated Whitney Houston and Creedence Clearwater tunes. 2 Bartenders going at it the entire night making drinks. FYI- this isn't the place to get creative with drinks and there's no Cocktail menu. Decided on a White Wine- while hubby went for a freaking $22 Long Island Iced Tea- and got another before we left. Bartender did give hubby a heads up on price before placing the order. Price was outrageous- but even with the first couple of sips, that sucker was hot and got me sold real good! I'm even laughing as I'm writing this. But listen....the vibe is fun...even with the outdated Music, these kids were obviously trying to dance and in the end, it was a happy place. Chill little bar that I had a fun couple hours at. Great music (90s, top 40, pop, dance), energetic vibe, fun-loving youths. Free popcorn on quieter nights, although "quiet" here is still "crowded" elsewhere. I went on a Thursday night, so it wasn't as "greasy" as it would be on the weekends, greasy being how I describe sleazy fist-pumpers and duck-faces. Some lady friends and I rolled up to Whiskey Town the other night after a long evening of work. Highlight #1 - Dance music galore - we were pretty much the 80's go-go dancers of the bar. We stood on the booths and were never asked to get down. Who doesn't love rocking out to the Jackson 5? Props to the DJ. Wouldn't have had a problem dancing on the dance floor but there wasn't room it was so packed. Highlight #2 - Wrangling Coors Lights from actual frat boys. You can purchase a cooler of 6 cans of beer for $25 - sooo easy to share, bonus for everyone really. Whiskey shot and beer combos $7-$10 - yum! Lowlight #1 - Photo booth wasn't working. Lowlight #2 - Right around the stroke of 12:30 it became so unbearably packed you instantly wanted to climb up the wall and open a window. Insight #1 - Booths are the way to go, if you have to go on a busy night get there around 11PM or earlier to claim your spot. The tables are so so so tiny they only hold about 4 drinks but helpful nonetheless. Insight #2 - Bourbon drinkers won't find anything out of the ordinary on their list and prices were about $10 - $13 for the stuff I wanted to drink which I thought was a little high especially for a place serving cans of beer in cozies. read more

I don't deem this bar a one star. Two stars, may in fact be harsh. Yet, recalling tonight's bartender I am put off by the very thought of not letting potential customers know about the douchy-ness and general cuckholdery of this primadonna son of a gun. This grump asked every single group of people in the bar for ID multiple times throughout the night (after he served them alcohol prior). He proceeded to kick two groups of people out, seemingly in order to shut the bar early because he must have had important things on his schedule that he had to get to. It was very unprofessional and frankly made me upset to see an employee tarnishing this bar's reputation just because of his uncouth conduct. It's tough to explain just how much of an asshole this guy was being. Frankly, he was the rudest bartender I have ever encountered. Plus he left the panini maker on for far too long, a potential fire hazard. I wish I had written down his name. He looked like he could be anywhere between 23 and 28. Perhaps he asked everyone for ID many times through the night because that is how he was treated as a chaste, baby-faced, amateur bar goer. Like the zillion other New York events, it had completely slipped my mind until I crossed this bar again today and before writing the review about my experience, I decided to take a quick look at the other reviews. I would echo a lot of other reviews on the bouncers being extremely rude and unprofessional. I was denied entry to the bar even after showing my ID and all while the bouncer kept letting in barely 20 somethings in. I was told first that my ID looked fake, then that someone made a mess at the bar last week that looked like me, and then on arguing about the absurdity of these statements, I was told that I look underage and that they reserved the right to admission. Ha, well our group decided to go elsewhere that night but today reading some of the other reviews, am pretty sure the bouncers and the manager of this bar are nothing but racist and I am surprised that this bar isn't obsolete yet! read more

If you want to meet xenophobic, racist bartenders and possibly the worst management in the whole city - look no further. I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review on this terrible establishment. I haven't set foot since this happened. During SantaCon 2 winters ago, my friends and I walked into the bar hoping to get a few drinks before it got crazy. After getting watered-down drinks and going up to the bar to pay we realized none of us had cash. That's on us, but what follows is just despicable. My friend handed her card to the bartender saying she apologized but had no cash and we didn't meet the ridiculously high card minimum. When he refused, she answered saying "it is illegal in nyc to refuse someone's form of payment", and this mishap was a one time occurrence assuring him we would bring cash next time. He responded to her saying "well you're probably not legal in the country anyways". My friend is from South Africa and has an accent, so the bartender was 100% profiling and was extremely out of line. We tried talking to management who refused to see us to file a formal complaint, and after walking out the door, spoke to the bouncer briefly, who told us that this was a regular occurrence for him and that he too had received awful comments from this individual and management. This place needs to be shut down or sold to people who have a conscience. read more

I am semi-convince some bars only being visible to you once you hit a certain age. I've walked past this place more time than I can count. Probably over 2000+ times and didn't notice it until I genuinely googled "BARS in my area." When we showed up on a Friday night it was a pleasant surprise. Pretty dead for a nice friday, free taste of Jamo from drink girls, a good red hue over everything, and a lot more spacious that expected. We bought a myriad of cupcakes, which the bartenders let us eat without complaints. This place is alright. If I'm looking for something close, low energy and non offensive -- I'll offer this place up. It doesn't inspire much other than convenience. The bartenders are very slow but happy hour is till 8pm. Happy Hour isn't that great though -- the wells are poured light and are overpriced already. For a dive-ish bar their prices don't match. I came here with a large group of friends when they opened at 5pm, and by the time we left the place was packed. Just not really my kinda crowd or place. Music was just all 90s or top 40. Nothing amazing. Obviously if you like that kinda thing you'll enjoy it. Pros: Bartenders were attentive and tended to you quickly. Also there's 4 bathrooms so it's good for the crowd. Cons: Whisky town is really packed and the crowd was rude and pushed people around. Didn't stay more than an hour. Got bored and probably won't come back. And take this review with a grain of salt. We asked to move to a bigger, more spacious area. Again, told that everything was already reserved. He was a cool guy, but we didn't feel our PLANNED and DISCUSSED needs were met. Love Whiskey Town! It is so laid back and comfotable. Tip: If you are plan on showing up with 8+ people, call ahead to reserve one of the booths at no charge. This way, you and your friends have space to dance because no doubt, you'll want to!! The DJ plays eclectic music pulling out old favorites that you had forgotten about (i.e., Toto's Africa). Stumbled here by accident and it was a happy one! It is the perfect combination between bar and club and the DJ was AMAZING. The space is nicely planned, so you can sit and drink with your friends, sit at the bar, stand near the dance floor or dance. there is a photobooth which was cool and the DJ actually listened/played our suggestions. Even though it got crowded as the night went on the guys there were not creepy or grabby which is always a plus. The bartender really did an amazing job keeping everything fast and smooth even though there were a ton of people there. I would certainly go back for a night out on the weekend if you want to dance or just sit and chill. I know I will at least need to go back to try the whiskey this time since. 10/10 would recommend you stop by this place between the villages. read more

I call this human bumper cars. I'm the little bumper car in flats and they're the big bumper cars with LI accents and collared shirts. Oh and then the other bumper cars that are less aggressive all seem to be blonde colored and seething at my very presence in their ring. The content of the crowd, however, is not what based my judgment on since it was Saturday night in the East Village and that sort is a given. While not the sports bar that I had originally imagined the million times I've walked by, Whisky Town is a town that I'd rather not visit on a weekend getaway. The music is the type of top forty you can't dance to. The bathrooms are communal which mean while they go faster, if you pick the wrong door you may find a pukey mess behind it. The credit card minimum is $20, my vodka soda was $8 and if you buy a beer they serve it in a free koozie. One cool thing they do is sell mini coolers of beer ... though I didn't get them so I can't report a price. My conclusion is that if you are going here on a bar crawl or looking for a new sausage cart, then this is a good spot on the weekends. Just wear padding. read more

They have a few bartenders that rotate shifts through out the week and since I come in on random days I didn't think they knew who I was...or so I thought. One night, my friend Cass M. and I came in for some PB's. We ordered our usual (The Manager) then sat down to play some Connect Four. Some time passes, and one of the bartenders comes over with a tray of 3 PB shots. I look around confused. He's looking straight at us and moves the tray closer...closer...closer...holy shit it's for us! So all 3 of us take a shot together and he walks back behind the counter. THEN, after I beat Cass M. one last time we walk over to get the check. The girl asks me for my name. My name? I never gave it to the bartender...but I thought I'd humor the situation and hesitantly said Jen? She comes back with a check that says Jennifer at the top. WTF! New York loves their pickle backs, and Whiskey Town isn't about to jump ship on this drinking trend that shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. It's a bit of a polarizing libation, and admittedly, when the New York born salty elixir began bubbling up at places around San Francisco, I was dubious to say the least. Jameson and a shot of pickle juice just sounds like a recipe for disaster. But strangely, it's not half bad! It's like a deep fried Oreo: you might try it once just to say you did... but there's probably little reason to imbibe in a second dosage anytime in your adult life. Unless you're looking forward to unexpected cardiac arrest, that is. The pickled whiskey isn't the only notable option in their library of creative drinking items, as they also feature mixed drinks in pint glasses and shot/beer combos that are sure to get your motor running. They also sell six-packs of beer and put them on ice in a Coleman cooler to take back to your table (complete with Whiskey Town coozies, no less). Now that's what I call a party! Like most bars, Friday night brought out quite the slew of weekend warriors where fist pumps were plentiful, popped collars reigned supreme, and sour glances were exchanged with the regularity of a geyser in Yellowstone National Park. If that's your thing, by all means, beat that beat, my friend. But for myself, a return visit on a Wednesday or Thursday seems a tad more palatable. read more
