The…read moreold steam plant is such a cool setting and they did a great job keeping the industrial feel of the building. Definitely worth walking around and checking everything out. We did a beer flight with the Lime Wheel, Putterboy Pilsner, Hundred Acre Honey and Cardinal Breeze. All were good, but the Cardinal Breeze was easily my favorite. Tasty, full bodied and really smooth. The Lime Wheel was refreshing but I wish it had a little more lime flavor. We also got the Smokehouse Sampler. The food was good, although some of the meats were a little dry. We had just come from the BBQ Festival where we had some amazing brisket, so admittedly the bar was pretty high! All of the sauces here were really good. The Hickory was a little sweet for me, but that's just personal preference. Our server Donna was great. Very helpful, fun and made the whole experience better. Cool building, good beer, good BBQ and really good service. I'd definitely come back, especially for another Cardinal Breeze.

It's has plenty of seating and by the time we left was packed with guests. Our service was fine. Ended up getting a flight of beer to be able to sample a few of their brews, the stout was the best one. Super smooth to the palate. Ended up getting a pizza which had a selection of their smoked meats on it, it didn't disappoint. Some portions of the crust were a little too hard as opposed to softer and chewy. Price point was not bad at all. Great place!

It was a must when we were back in the area to see our daughter played volleyball against SCC in beach volleyball. It was WONDERFUL! A.J. Is always the sweetest and made another great recommendation. I had a fall special, Blushing Pig, and my husband had the Meat Lovers. There is a picture that describes the pizza I had. It was delicious. They have made some changes since our last visit. Loved the pizza boards the pies were brought out on. If you are in the area, this is a comfortable little place with wonderful staff and delicious food. They have great pies for those needing gluten free and/or vegan. My mother loves them. Meat Lovers is red sauce base, sausage, pepperoni, bacon and ham.

I ordered a 10" pepperoni and roasted red pepper pizza -- a good size for one person -- but the topping distribution was hit‑or‑miss. A few of the square slices didn't seem to have any roasted red peppers at all. The overall flavor was solid, just not particularly memorable. The crust had a pita‑like taste and texture: decent chew, but missing the standout character or wow factor I was hoping for. I'll probably stop by the restaurant in person next time and try a slice at the counter to see if it hits better fresh.

For $16 you can get hush puppies, two sides and BBQ entree. These are some of the best hush puppies I have EVER had. It's a lot of food too. I visited Stubbs at roughly the end of a 13 hour road trip (ok, there was one overnight 9 hours…read moreinto that) from MA to NC. There was no way that I was going to have driven all the way to North Carolina without eating authentic eastern North Carolina barbecue. Stubbs totally fit the bill. It's in an entirely unassuming building that looks like it at one time might have been a house, but has clearly been home to the restaurant for many years. But whatever. You're not at Stubbs for the atmosphere (not that there's anything wrong with the ambiance...it's eastern Carolina roadside barbecue.). You're here for the food and in that sense, Stubbs does not disappoint. The pork was fresh, moist, and well-seasoned. Perfect. The sides were abundant and well prepared (slaw, greens, stewed beans, etc.). And the hushpuppies were sweet and crisp and not at all greasy. Plus, the staff - particularly the guy taking orders - were kind and accommodating (taking time to answer questions and explain things to my traveling companion who was not particularly schooled in the subtleties of regional barbecue varieties...which is a critical skill if one is going to navigate North Carolina's unique and sometimes contentious barbecue environment). Everyone here was having a good time and yet were taking care of the business of making and selling some of the best barbecue I've had regardless of style or location. If I lived around Carthage, I'd be going here for takeout pretty much weekly. While on a road trip, it's a must-stop location.
