Five star luxury retreat We are seasoned travelers could have spent our wedding anniversary almost anywhere before the coronavirus made us change plans. Social distancing and wearing a mask made finding a resort that had five star dinners and cabin lodging over looking a lake a challenge. Whispering Woods Cabin and Grill near Jordon, Arkansas about a half hour drive south of Mountain Home, Arkansas, it is not a grill but a fine dinning restaurant even with social spacing, reservations recommended, first evening (Wednesday) we had their special Prime Rib, the best I have enjoyed, and at eighty-two years old that is a lot of restaurants, it was worth staying in one of their cabins overlooking Lake Norfolk. The cabins are fully furnished, including refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and utensils. Each cabin has quiet air conditioning, a back deck with a view of the lake, parking by front door. Second day lunch outside patio with their special sandwich shrimp over hamburger lettuce tomato and cilantro french fries, again the best ever. That evening it was hard to choose between trout, walleye, or ribeye steak. You guessed it, I gained four pounds. We are planning on making this an annual event. My mom and stepfather recommended this place when we were visiting Arkansas. Whispering winds Restaurant has a beautiful view of Norfolk lake. We had the prime rib and I must say it was up there at the top with the best I ever had. Blaine was our waitress and she was awesome. The only reason I would not give this restaurant five stars is because we had to sit in very uncomfortable wood chairs. One dining room had padded chairs and ours had wooden chairs. They wouldn't accommodate us with padded chairs so that is why I rated with 4 stars. It's too bad because they really should take care of the customer. read more

Nice view and atmosphere, however the meal was extremely disappointing. I had a 14oz ribeye steak. It did not look right and after two bites it tasted and looked like a dry piece of sirloin. When I sent it back, the chef assured me that it was a ribeye. If it was, they had trimmed off the spinalis (rib crown or cap) and complexes (tender end piece). It was so dry that Ketchup couldn't make it tolerable. My wife's petite filet was also very dry. To top it off, they charged more than the menu price for my steak. I have eaten here many times over the years with a group of friends on our annual fishing trips. Every meal has excellent. This year I had the pan seared walleye with asparagus and a house salad. For desert I had a peach cobbler with ice cream. The meal was excellent and the service was very good. We had dinner in this secret jewel of the Lake Norfork area. Appetizers we great - goat cheese dip was tops. Tomato-coconut-seafood soup was full of flavors and worked well together. The 6oz filet was cooked to perfection. In fact, several in our group ordered steaks and each was cooked exactly to order. (Must have a grill master in the kitchen). We have eaten at Whispering Woods for quite some time. However, the food the last few times has been disappointing. We have never complained to the waitress or owner until the last visit. Two of us ordered the Lobster & Crab Roll & we both had the same complaint- The entree' had a fishy taste & the texture was off. I even added lemon juice to trying to help disguise the fishy taste! It did not help! When we told the waitress, she said, " I am sorry your palate did not like the meal!" We only had a few bites & She took our plates. I asked the waitress if she was going to charge us for the meal & she said, "she would have to speak to owner." She once again stated, "sorry our palates just didn't like the meal." When she came back with our check, she gave us 25% off each of the 2 entrees that were fishy tasting & we both had only a few bites. And once again, waitress never apologized, but stated for a third time, it was our fault our palates didn't like the fishy meal!!! The owner never came to our table to ask us about the meals!!! This resturant was a true diamond in the rough. Having just offhanded heard of it, my wife and I tried for our first date night in over a year. With a small rustic cabin feel the place has warm charm. The food is fantastic! The menu is small and focused but on point. They are not a steakhouse but my wife's steak one one of the very best we've had in a long time. Perfectly medium and bursting with flavor, we we're both delighted. The appetizer, sides, and main courses were ALL amazingly well prepared. Oh and the Banoffee pie was truly exquisite. Lastly, the price, for the quality of food and friendly atmosphere you could easily pay double; we paid $70 with tip for an appetizer, main course (with that amazing Ribeye, and a dessert). You will absolutely not find a better deal. From start to finish this secret and small Resturant turned out to be a wonderful experience. Biggest drawback is the lack of intimate atmosphere for a "gourmet" restaurant (noisy envionment). However, there is only one place superior in the region and that is PJ's at Norfork, AR. read more

This wonderful hidden gem has an absolutely brilliant view of Lake Norfork right from your table. The waitress serving me tonight made my experience here absolutely delightful. My dinner was served with all food perfectly hot and fresh from the kitchen. All of the staff appeared clean and professional, however, the hostess was terribly rude to one of the waitresses. Also, I did notice that the dishwasher was wearing gloves that in no way possible are safe to use for any position in a kitchen. Her gloves could possibly be a health risk. read more

Nice place. We ate here as a party of four yesterday and had a good time. The service was extremely friendly -- a bit much for us sometimes since we are from New England. I ordered the caprese salad for starters. The mozzarella was good but why am I eating mediocre hothouse tomatoes in the middle of a hot summer? The hummus starter was very good. A dinner salad was fine, but don't cut the basil so far ahead of time, and add a little more feta. Two of us had the veggie burger, which was dry, even with the guacamole topping. It needs some kind of other sauce, probably. My sister enjoyed the fish she ordered. Much of the rest of the food was unremarkable. The sweet potato fries seemed just out of the freezer bag instead of made there like the home fries looked. Of the desserts, the hummingbird cake was the only one that we would particularly rave about. The view is great and the restaurant clean and friendly. So, we arrived here after looking at the reviews. Well, our experience was not the best. The server Nicholas was amazing!! This was our first meal out during the quarantine era. Hence it took a while and mine was still not here. I then decided to go inside and tell them not to bother as i did not want to eat alone. The look i received from the owner/manager was to die for. "it takes a while to cook a bone in fillet" too long as per the one i received which was well over cooked first time. We then decided to go inside and pay our bill as i didn't want to eat alone after my wife had eaten. "we will take your meal off the bill" with the worst attitude you could witness!!! not taken my wives off that was served with a hair on the side!!! ok!! I was more than happy to pay our drinks bill and tipped the server the full amount including the meals as it wasn't his fault. The owner/manager here is the worst I have ever come across. No apology nothing!! her attitude is something to behold. I have travelled far and wide and she really needs training in how to manage.
